Mandy, 30 year chef and 20 year culinary school instructor here and I have to say this could be a model for producing the perfect cooking video. You present an easy recipe with tips and suggestions for a versatile spice mix. Then, you demonstrate six distinct recipes (with variations for those) in a clear, succinct and straightforward manner with no superfluous, dramatic or pretentious content. So much information and helpful hints in just over 14 minutes - professional video production and editing, practical skillful cooking technique and excellent teaching skills. You even provided the printed recipes. Definitely an A+. Keep up the fine work.
Hey Mandy, french fan here ! Somehow you weren't recommended on my youtube home page for almost a year, what a shame. Big fan of yours, bought your wok when it first came out and was so pleased with its quality (I use it so often), always looking forward for your recipes. I'll gladly bingewatch all the videos i've missed !! Glad to see your videos again, your new haircut looks cool as well !
@@SoupedUpRecipes Your written recipe is different than what you have in the video. The video has cumin seeds and Sichuan peppercorns, the recipe has powdered versions. If viewers go with powdered then there will be *more* of that by ratio being pre-ground.
Hi Mandy. I just love watching you teach us how to uncomplicate making different asian foods. I was born and raised on a farm and was only taught old time recipes . You have helped bring me into the present and to cook like I like to eat. Thank you for sharing your videos with us. From Florida USA
I made this and used it on plain chickpeas. Wow, delicious! And I didn't even put chicken powder in my spice mix. This is a much healthier flavor enhancer that I literally can use on so many things. Thank you for the recipe.
I am realizing asian foods are so helpful to my digestive issues. Your videos are the best. Even if I have to substitute items from what you reommend, your recipes are so universal many of us can live our best asian desires with her help
My aged mother loves Chinese food. But as we live hours away from the nearest Chinese restaurant, she hasn’t had it often. Until I found YOUR channel! You make the recipes easy to follow, and they are VERY tasty. I am so grateful, and you are my absolute go-to when mum feels like a Chinese meal. I look forward to trying this spice recipe tonight. Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge
I have discovered that toasted sunflower seed kernels are an excellent substitute for peanuts if somebody has an allergy of tree nuts and cannot use almonds!
Mandy, you make such clear and well-paced videos. I love that you make a BBQ spice mix and then follow it up with 5 easy recipes. Great stuff! Appreciate the work you put in. Thank you very much and I look forward to more.
you are so thorough and always in the point and I appreciate that because it makes me feel that I don't waste any time watching just relaxing and in the same time learning .. thank you Mandy ❤❤
Last week I cooked the dace fish in the can with bitter melon. My husband and I love it. I cooked again right after finishing the first. I have a lot of frozen bitter melon because we planted them the past 2 years. Thank you. I will make this barbecue seasoning next!

I really, really appreciate the many quick recipes in this video. Everyone is so pressed for time these days that ideas for quick and flavorful meals are always welcome. Great video!
So many recipes, so quick & easy! I just love how you made use of store bought product like the wontons. I can see ways of opening up healthy, easy, and excellent options at the Chinese and other Asian stores between my home in Arlington, WA and Seattle. Splendid!
I made this spice! I surprised myself that I have every single ingredient except the peanut which I subbed with PB2 powder. This was SO GOOD. I used it on shaved beef slices but instead of stirfrying it I place it my air fryer for a few minutes.
👍👍👍👍👍👍Hi Mandy. So much talent and knowledge. Thank you for sharing that with us. Personally, I enjoy watching you eating and enjoying all of those great meals. Wish I could get better using my chop sticks. I'll keep practicing !!! Great presentation....Michigan
for the lamb skewers if you cover the top of the stick all the way with meat then the top wont burn that way you only have to cover the bottom part of the skewer with foil.
I'm always a fan of yours and thank you for this video. This is my next project now after I followed your chinese pickled vegetables. Also, I hope you will create other recipes using chinese pickled vegetables since as of the moment I only knew one which is stir fry ground pork with pickled green bean.
These are fantastic! I want to try them all. I love your videos and have your recipes saved for special occasions. I'm in an area that has a lot of readily available crawfish. Are there any Chinese recipes that utilize that as a main or side dish?
All the recipes are delicious, thank you for your efforts. I just want to ask about the sausage, for Muslims, we will make it with Beef, but for the cooking wine, what replacement can we use?
Can't wait to try this. Please put links to the spices you use. It's difficult trying to figure out what they are in the Target/Walmart/Amazon/Local stores.
I always try to pronounce the Chinese names of the dishes you make....and I always double check that no-one can hear me. 😂 I will watch this AFTER dinner, it's safer that way. (I like your new hairdo 👍)
These recipes look so good. Can't wait to try them. Where do you get your porcelain dishes from. I find the blue and white very hard to find in the US Midwest. I share ur videos with family and friends. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Love these recipes!:) I have the store bought BBQ powder and wonder what else to cook with it other than for skewers. Do you have recipes for shi san xiang powder (13 spices mix)? I made fried rice with it, but you only need to use a very small amount so I don't know how to finish up the seasoning mix.
Thank you for this recipe! I was thinking that this recipe would be great for diets and you confirmed it. I'm also glad the sausage stuffer is back in stock. I'm a single person who doesn't need a huge mechanical machine, and your sausage stuffer is perfect. ETA: You could use this seasoning in fried rice too?
Hi Mandy I love this video, I always try make my own spice mixes at home, fresher and healthier, this sounds so delicious that I’m looking through my pantry right now to make it. And I love the great ideas to use with it too. My favourite would be the skewers, dumplings and noodles. I’m drooling for them right now 😋😋
Hello Mandy! Are the ingredients for the spice powder readily available in US stores? If not, which ones are most likely to be in Chinese market? Thanks for your authentic Chinese culinary experience.
Hi, I believe you can purcahse spicy chili flake, non-spicy or mild chili powder (replace it with sweet paprika), cumin, roasted sesame seeds, garlic powder, white pepper, and roasted peanut in regular supermarkets. You will have to purchase Sichuan peppercorn and chicken bouillon powder from Asian markets.
Thanks, Mandy! But a question, if I have garlic oil and scallion oil, can I heat a mixture of those two and pour them on the spices or it's no longer necessary? Or its better to use plain oil for that?
Or just use the sesame seeds and omit the nuts. Glad to hear you are acknowledging peanut allergies. Personally I had no issues in Asia. But there was one incident where a waitress almost had an uncle Roger like "why you scared of peanuts?? you so weak! soo weak! reaction. I just went to an another place next door and had a dim sum feast. While I can usually just take antihistamines, and have stomach pains for few hours, there are people who can literally die from just the smallest amount of nuts.
