i got really sad. Seeing all those names from the past i was lucky to be able to watch. Some i was to young for but others i remember them well. Its like all of them are battling on that board like playing a match, trading places , back and forth then someone stands out for awhile. Then you start to see them fade. A couple that came up together , slowly fading out as they start to leave the game of Tennis and then, they are gone. Then the next group and same thing and they fade out and then, gone. Sad. I see bjorn borg, conors, Nastase , Lendl etc and they are gone. Then it was sampras, agassi etc . Now, we see two of the three trilogy step down. So sad but feel blessed i was alive to see them all. ( should have been a minimum amount of wins or plays. This list is misleading. Vilas won more clay court matches than Borg, but Vilas was no match for Borg. The only French title won by Vilas was 1977, when Borg did not play. The following year Vilas was helpless in his match with Borg. Until Nadal came along, Borg was considered the greatest clay courter of all time.
Unless you put the wins in the context of the losses as a percentage won, instead of total number accumulated over years and years there is no context. 1992 2nd rd loss by Lendl to unseeded Jaime Oncins at 1992 RG, becomes a success story rather than a dismal failure, if the loss is not registered statistically. The fact that you are only including ATP sanctioned events is a tremendous disadvantage to players half of who's prime years was lost before it existed. Carlson winning Kitzbulhel Austria in 1988, is treated the same as Laver winning RG in 1969 when Carlson never got past the 4th rd at the French. That's why kent Carlson has both a higher number and percentage than Rod Laver. Pay attention to the limitations as well as the strengths in the measurements.
