Alot of people TALK TOO DAMN MUCH at work!!! Go to work, be friendly, make small talk BUT DON'T DISCUSS YOUR PERSONAL BUSINESS.
Yeah, keep your business to yourself!
Is your favorite hockey team The Caps?
People think I'm weird for following Financial Peace so I tell them I'm on baby step 4, 5, 6.
Apparently not having consumer debt makes people uneasy BUT I'm laughed at for bringing lunch to work, not going out etc.
Yep, work friends never turn out to be your real friends. Always keep it professional
Nothing wrong with talking about your person life.
Why on earth telling your boss about your side hustle? Just do your stuff and avoid work gossip.
If there is conflict of interest, this is a good reason for your boss to know.
Not really micromanaging bosses will trip out. It's cool to do something off the clock but once they feel it affects productivity your getting wrote up.
Never handle Business this way. People are fickle creatures.
You can tell as giggly she is, that she talks about all this stuff with her coworkers and she isnt quiet about it.
Her attitude is immature...they drew attention to themselves
100%
You sound a lot like those dock workers smoking cigs….
You can tell she absolutely loves all the petty drama around the situation, the only part that upsets her is that she’s the one at risk of losing money here.
She sounds like a 12 year old.
Oh gosh I read this comment as she’s wrapping up her first sentence and I already can’t even 😂
Very childish caller. Do your thing and stop explaining yourself to anyone and everyone
Unless they are working their side hustle while at work! Nothing wrong with this, but yea don’t tell anyone what you are doing after work!
I worked at a place that suffered in business after an employee left to work for a competitor and eventually stole customers from the first company. This lady doing medical encoding as a side hustle alongside her full time job as a medical encoder has the potential to obtain too much information.
Had a coworker who got fired over his side hustle because our boss got jealous over the profit he was bringing in. Keep your business to yourself guys 😂
In my industry they’ll find out even if you keep your mouth shut.
That's not why he got fired, that's just what he told you. He got fired for working on his side job while on the clock.
@@God__Emperor_you dk this lol
@@frankcb11 he’s the god emperor of course he knows everything! Including my situation that I lived
@@RPisa2416haha your response made me chuckle a bit. I like your humor here! Even dealing with ridiculous internet people
Why is she giggling? She sounds so immature. If she's being watched at work maybe that's it. Definitely for her husband if he's distracted from his job by a side hustle then maybe he will soon be doing the hustle full time. I worked two jobs for 20 years and did exactly what they say, keep my mouth shut and be the employee the job wants to keep
I wonder if the two of them are exhausted, low-energy, schlep into work fifteen minutes late saying "I'm sorry there was traffic," wear wrinkled clothes, etc. These don't sound like prize employees.
She's giggling because she is STRESSED OUT. She's very nervous talking to Ken and her giggling releases stress.
Some people laugh when they’re nervous.
I know it’s the stress but sounds like she’s at a comedy show 😂
Nervous to be on the show
1:15 As long as your side hustle doesn't interfere with the duties of your main job, the boss at your main job doesn't need to know about it.
For some bizarre reason since social media became a thing people hate privacy. People share every tiny detail of their lives.
Highly agree. Being discreet is a lost art nowadays. I got rid of Instagram and Facebook and I love it now lol
100% Why did she share that she is smashing with her boss. Crazy.
@@candy2325 Agreed social media is a massive waste of time unless you're selling something.
I agree, but I sure hope you're not one of those who demanded people's "vax" status...
😂Ken is real for saying to shut up
This is why any job I'm at, the people know little to nothing about me
It's best to just keep some things to yourself or at least away from coworkers
Terrible way to live life
@@MikeyPaper Not at all, you can make small talk and share some personal things but you need to be careful on what things you share with your coworkers and your boss. These people aren't your friends and many things can go against you.
Exactly, I don’t add any coworkers on social media, etc. they don’t even know if I’m married, have kids or whatever and only my manager had my number.
Coworkers aren’t your friends. I’m so glad I work from home and don’t have to deal with most of that nonsense. Get yo money and mind yo business
@@edb484 That's another great benefit of working from home, you don't need to deal with the office gossip and shenanigans. Nothing like working from home and focusing on the actual work. I am also willing to bet that issues like sexual harassment, work toxicity and conflicts between peers are reduced when people work remotely.
@MikeyPaper wrong. It’s always best to keep your work and personal lives separate. I don’t share anything personal with any of my coworkers at either of my jobs. They don’t even know my real name. And when I’m off work, I don’t talk about or even think about work. There is to be zero crossover between the two
Ken is right. Keep away from nasty coworkers.Negative energy always looking for drama.
Always best not saying anything to anyone especially to your coworkers. Your coworkers are not your friends.
I let my co-workers talk....I just listen...and volunteer NOTHING.
I am glad he addressed the giggling. I am questioning if she has professional boundaries... maybe they are working the other job during work hours or distracted.
Regardless of any other job on the side, she does not sound like she can focus on anything. So annoying.
@@davinasquirrel7672yes, either she giggles when nervous, so her bosses are giving her the sideeye as she is probably giggling around them. Or, she is high and giggling because of that.
@@dudeorduuude5211 whatever the reason, she sounds very immature.
First rule of work...don't talk a lot about your personal life or WHAT you do outside of work. Keep that information to YOURSELF.....always. I tell people VERY little about what I do outside of work.
I agree. I am a teacher and only a couple of people at my school know I also tutor after school/weekends. Most people tend to look down their nose at people working two jobs (considering how much people complain about low pay for teachers, you would think more of them would understand). What I do after work is my business.
What do you think that is? I am curious as to why people are like that.
@@curtisaguinaga7021 No clue. With employers, I think because they feel like it means you are not 100% committed or it's a guilt thing because they are not paying you enough (note: I never had that mentality, for the most part I felt I was paid a fair wage it was just the cost of living was bad). It could also be like a social status thing like, "oh you need more money?".

I have a side hustle. If my boss gave me grief about it I’d tell him no problem I’ll give it up. All you have to do is raise my pay to cover my lost income.
Truthfully, this generation just talks too much. Too much.
Why would either boss know? Because you ran your mouth.
Or you were dumb enough to mention it on social media. Anything you put out there on social media is going to get to your boss.
Her immature attitude combined with her shrilly voice annoys me
Yeah I thought she was trying to keep from bursting out in tears at first. I didn’t hear one thing in the call that was funny, I don’t know why she was so giggly.
@@beckyshell4649 I thought she sounded upset, too. I guess it's just her normal voice.

If you have 2 full time jobs there is nothing wrong with that either. I don’t have the energy for that but if someone else does, let them do it. Maybe one day they won’t be able to support themselves due to illness or something. So let them use all they have to make what money they can while they have the energy to do it.
I had a co-worker who did 2 full time jobs and the guy just randomly flipped out one day and walked out. We were all like da hell just happened? It sounds good on paper but it's so soul sucking. To each their own I suppose.
@@High5748 He was definitely able to walk out because of that second job though.
I agree, my uncle worked two full-time jobs in warehousing operations a looong time ago. He worked a first shift job and a night shift job.....he was so damn tired but he sacrificed to do it and earned it all the way sleeping in his car even due to exhaustion and lack of time. I knew a manager at the retail chain I used to work at, she was doing the same thing so her three kids could attend college and graduate debt free.
For time based positions Ken is right, it would be ethically wrong to do both jobs IF they require you onsite at set hours. For performance and task based roles it's not the case, you get paid and raises based on your output and quality of work. As long as you meet expectations, attend your meetings, etc. no one gives a damn in the business, with the exception of not being able to work multiple government or defense contractor roles due to security and confidential information restrictions.
Do US contracts not say that having any secondary jobs, paid or unpaid is not allowed without written permission by the employer? because that is standard here. Just curious. Not like the consequences of doing it is that bad but still.
@@Wehra96 No. Where do you live? Jobs here don't pay enough to be that picky with their employers.

Cool, I had two full-time jobs all of last year, and they also called it moon-lighting. Guess who I told? No one. Guess who found out in either job? No one. Guess who made two full-time software engineer salaries? Me. It sucked, but it was worth it. Just do it and don't tell anyone until after (obviously don't tell either job though), or just don't do it. It's not that hard.

How can someone know a professional broker when legit once are hard to find this days
She's recognized as 'Mrs Celia dullpher . One of the finest portfolio managers in the field. She's widely recognized; you should take a look at her work.
I agree. Based on personal experience working with an investment advisor, I currently have $1m in a well diversified portfolio, that has experienced exponential growth. It is not about having money to invest in stocks, but also you need to be knowledgeable, persistent, and have strong hands to back it up.
I just wanna make two points, number one your employer doesn’t like when you have another job they view it as the your other job is taking your time away from them and they should be enough and secondly, I worked IT. I never had enough time for a second job, I was working rotating shifts days and nights and weekends, but that’s a whole other story. The real reality is your primary employer wants you to think of them as your spouse and working a second job is cheating on them. They don’t want to think that maybe they’re just not paying enough.
Just don’t tell them anything.
Great advice. A lot of people put way too much of their personal business out there when really, if you just keep your mouth shut you can do what you want without any comments from the peanut gallery.

I worked with a courtroom clerk who doing mortgages on the side. He was often away from his desk, on the phone about mortgages. That means he wasn’t processing the paperwork people were waiting for promptly, and wasn’t attending to the attorneys. These are the things he was supposed to be doing when the judge wasn’t on the bench. This caused the attorneys delay in getting to the other courts where they had cases. He was single-handedly slowing down the whole operation.
I agree with the other people commenting. You cannot share this type of information at work. It threatens their current jobs because they don’t appear 100% dedicated at work. Also, doing other work on company property, like the cafeteria, is not a good idea.
Such a good message Ken

Whatever you do in your own time is your own business. Literally in this case. If you're not performing thats a different story but otherwise who are they to tell you what to do in your own time?
I have made the mistake of telling others about my side jobs. My coworker thought that it was unfair to the company that I didn’t rest on the weekends. The irony was that he was obese and the slowest one in the crew. Others just don’t want you to get ahead of them, is very sad.
Ma'am, please stop giggling in between every sentence. We're not 14 any more. There might be an ethical issue with her doing medical encoding for two different companies. If you do something full-time, your part-time/side hustle should either be very different or if not facilities that collaborate as opposed to compete.
Dave: "you need to be working 26hrs a day at 4 jobs to get out of your financial mess"
Ken: "working two full time jobs is not ok!"
Caller needs to look into her employment contract to see what it says about working other jobs, and keep her mouth shut. in Many states an employer can fire you for no reason at all, so before you get into an "I can do what I want" p1ssing match, just keep in mind that they can fire you if they want. Gotta strike a balance, preferably by never letting the issue arise in the first place, by not letting the jobs interfere with each other and keeping your mouth shut about it!
I’m orienting at my side gig as I’m watching this. It’s no one’s business what you do on your own time.

This is an example of how getting fired is a blessing. He was better off away from those people.
When the topic was remote work having 2 jobs, Ken was like you need to tell the boss, funny now it's be quiet.
It’s important to inform your boss under two circumstances: if it will affect your availability (usually telling a part time job you have to be out at a certain time so you can go to your full time job), or if it’s a potential conflict of interest. If there’s no conflict in any way, shape or form, then your boss doesn’t need to know
Ken's clueless on this one. Her hubby just needs to go make calls from his car on lunch, but she might lose two jobs doing medical encoding for 2 different places.

People who are apart of the Ramsey movement love to share about it. I do the same thing. But definitely do not share with co-workers.

One thing that needs to be discussed - there are definitely company policies in the software industry that do not allow for secondary positions, regardless of whether its on company time or not. As long as they aren't violating that, they just need to be quiet.
I don't understand, Dave Ramsey says go Gazelle Intense on debt, but it's bad to work 2 full-time jobs? I understand this comment if the 2 jobs are at the same time, but if they are separate hours and not conflicting with each other, I don't see the problem.
Some side hustles can demand a lot of time and require immediate answers, so a conflict can constantly stay on the horizon, whether you plan it or not. Real estate is one of those type hustles. Mowing grass, not so much. I have done both.
these companies have way to much power over people lives.
A lot of people say they aren’t taking calls or doing business during work but often times they are.
She keeps laughing and this is really annoying. Seriously, don't tell your coworkers what you're doing on the side. She doesn't seem so serious about her situation.
A lot of "bosses" feel the need for you to be desperately dependent on them and "the job". If you have another income stream, it keeps you from being desperately dependent. People who aren't desperate are not controllable, and lack of control is what drives bosses like these.
I remember my first serving job basically ended when my bosses found out I picked up another job at the local grocery store (I was 15) and they didn’t take well to that. They stopped giving me hours which was so funny given that the low-hours and low-pay were the reason I picked up the second job to begin with! It was a hard lesson to learn so early on!
This is not a high-tech company where there are legitimate conflicts of interest that you need to identify potential conflicts of interests (e.g. having a large position in a competitor). Medical coding is low-skill job and that works in both directions. It means she can be replaced quickly and it also means that she isn't important enough to have inside information.
It should be noted that civil service jobs require that you disclose any other paid work as you are classified as a Disaster Service Worker and your jurisdiction has to be made aware of any conflicts of interest or side jobs that may negatively affect your ability to work during emergencies.
My boss did not find out that I had a UA-cam channel (making more $ than I did at that company working full time) until my last day of work hahaha. I had been on the team for several years and never mentioned it.
Our company requires disclosure to verify there’s no conflict of interest. We don’t stop anyone from doing something unrelated to our business but you can’t side hustle with our competitors.
You guys just found out that bosses are overstepping their roles and acting like the company owns their employees? If you're not 100% committed or appear to be, they don't want you because they can't abuse you and string you along.

"Full time" is 35 hours now apparently. Or less possibly.
I believe he's talking about overemployment where people are WFH on two jobs at once.
@@TimothyStuder If that's what's going on, I definitely agree that's not OK. I was scratching my head going why is two full time jobs a problem? Working two jobs from home and giving both only half the attention they're paying for is a different matter entirely.

Is is legal in most states to prevent and/or fire an employee for "moonlighting" or working a second job. While it's not illegal itself just like being rude to customers isn't illegal, it's certainly a fireable offense if the company wants it to be. Keep your mouth shut and never work on the clock for another job because that can in fact open you up to lawsuits for fraud. Keep them separate, work in an unrelated area, don't let one affect the other (like make you too tired to work well), and shut your mouth.
Non competes are now void so I doubt it.
@@TopShot501st yeah and you should do a little more reading because that's a completely different thing. That refers to formerly legal contract that barred employees from leaving a company to go work for the competition. A company like OpenAI would use it to prevent an engineer from leaving the company and going to work for Apple later on. Once you leave a company you can work for whoever you want including the competition. However, while you're employed they have every legal right to fire you for that.
Yeah NO to this advice! I work in healthcare as well. We are allowed to have side jobs, but they must be disclosed in writing. Purpose likely being an employee can't call off, be late etc because they're working their side job. Trust me, I've encountered Many coworkers who have side hustles- then either don't show up for their main job, or are Consistently late. Gotta love when they talk about working their side gig til 2 am, call off, can't be on time, and when they're at work- Don't work. Side gigs are a double edged sword between the responsible people working to better their situation, and those that just don't like the responsibility of working.
A fool tell all she/ he know. Biblical
I make extra money on the side because I am a teacher so my salary is already limited but I don't talk about what I do. Now some people eventually find out about some of my side hustles but I definitely don't air it out. My admin really don't care but some of my colleagues very much care and will judge relentlessly.
I couldn’t tell if she was crying or laughing lol
I have worked high level jobs that they wanted to know about 2nd jobs. If you didn't tell them and get approval it was a fire able offense. We got paid well so nobody really needed a second job to survive.
Opinion: if no conflict of intetest and the boss still doesn't like it - they can
1. pay you more or 2. be quiet about not liking it.
Some companies have contracts and policies concerning side hustles. I worked in HR where a woman was fired for working elsewhere on her annual leave. The advice should be talk to the boss and then shut up.
If your job is upset with you moonlighting, tell them you will stop if they give you a raise that covers the difference lost income!
The bosses don't like you having another source of income. Getting fired from your only income job is a threat they use to keep you in line.
The husband will just go full time in real estate if he gets fired and she already has another job get a pay check.
