I laughed so hard the first time I saw this, also because this guy keeps complaining that the main characters always do stuff together, and then of course he blows up because he's not a main character.
Yep everyone wants to be the boss just to feel validated but being the boss is about just telling people want to do it's about leading people and will to but others before yourself. Most people just want to be boss just so they can treat people the same way they have been treated.
I searched for this video by typing "Arnts Lost" because I had completely forgotten that he corrected Hurley about it, and was dead certain that was his actual name.
Not gunna lie, the first time I watched this scene I was bored of this guy just going on an on about "safety" so I stopped paying attention, and then BAM... Scared the crap out of me.
I was looking at my phone during this scene because arzt bored me too and then I just heard a boom and looked up and was like "the fuck?" What the hell is this red stuff raining down on them and then I saw that arzt was missing 🤣
But this actor is very smart in choosing this short role because thanks to this he made us remember him by everyone who watched the series!!! Sometimes when a person makes a simple move that is on everyone’s mind... but in reality it may happen something big, and remains in the memory for years. Yes. ❤
this scene always upset me when i watched, everyone thinks haha funny random explosion but the fact he KNEW what he was dealing with was volatile always upset me, he knew what he was doing was dangerous but he was desperate to try and escape the island, he was just doing what he knew best at the best of his knowledge
I totally called his demise because he was being a total smartass. Even though the explosion caught many by surprise, the show timed his demise to perfection. At least he got to feel like he was in charge for once after feeling like an outcast the entire time.
he planned it, he wanted to teach them the dangers of dynamite even if it meant his own life, that or he picked up the ONE stick that had degraded almost fully to just nitroglycerin.
@@sonlirdrengor8514 fun fact: The stuff that builds on dynamite over time is actually sodium nitrate, and not nitroglycerin. Sweaty dynamite randomly detonating is actually a complete and utter myth.
He actually has a point about the main characters. It's like highschool and only the popular students are noticed. Why make 48 survivors if your just gonna revolve around less than a 3rd of them. I am pretty sure I saw a chinese dood from the beginning who wasn't seen in a single conversation.
Takes great care to explain the dangers of dynamite and how to handle it, yet Arzt proceeds to pick up the most fucked up looking stick in the crate. Lol
When Hugo told him the whole clique thing was all in his head, he should have listened. But no, he wanted to be a smartass and take charge of something he clearly wasn't prepared for.
Me encanta.
Well the blast pressure of the explosion likely would have caused the whole box to go up so yes you have a great point here. He only took like 3 steps away from the box lol
Cuz the explosion would kill everyone on screen, jack, hurley, kate and locke are protected by the island powers, just like when richard tried to kill himself and jack was there too, or michael trying to shoot himself in the head and failing, the island stopped the rest of the dynamite from exploding
This scene made me laugh and have my mouth and eyes wide open. I knew it was going to happen, but to see it actually happen left me in a state of weirdness. LMAO
Never been more happy when someone died, he shows up 23 episodes in and thinks hes the main character the big guy who is saving everyone and then he blows himself up
😂 At first glance, when I watched the scene, I was very shocked 😧, but when I replayed the scene again, I stayed for about 30 minutes laughing. It was a really comedic scene and at the same time wonderful 🤣
Funny thing is everyone else here was a candidate, so if they had just done it on their own without Artz, they probably would have been fine simply 'cause the writters... sorry, THE ISLAND needed the alive XD
Unless one lived through this series in real time as it was being released on its original run on ABC, I feel like its impossible to accurately describe just how much of a departure from the norm on TV at the time when this scene first aired on network TV and he got blown up. It came completely out of left field. Easily one of the most “Wait… WHAT??“ scenes of the entire series😂
Why would you touch it unless you want a headache? Also it won't explode by waving it around. You'd have to give it a good wack. And the most unstable explosive probably goes to ammonium triiodide.
In case you still don't know: Ascanio Sobrero discovered nitroglycerin and while conducting an experiment in his lab an explosion occurred which left his hands and face badly scarred.
For being a guy who berates everyone so harshly for how they handle dynamite, he sure was being cavalier with it. Holding it in one hand and shit, waving it around, telling people to throw things to him while holding it.
Yeah I was going to say the same thing. This is why everyone can't lead. That was his " i'm in charge now moment" instead of " what can i do to help" moment that's why certain people are included in situations
I'll never forget this scene. Me and my family used to watch Lost, but once they found the vault, things just got too weird for us to care enough about the show. :/

Dude you have some Artz on you.
Well, it's sad that you find someones death funny.
What's sad is that he did in fact save their lives but since he was annoying, no one actually wanted to admit it.
I don't think he saved anyone's life because the rest were all candidates and therefore dynamite proof, as Jack demonstrated to Richard.
Arzt was really well written imo. He's such a real depiction of a lot of people
