I’ve seen a couple of these side by side comparisons. And so many keep saying epson looks better and I thought I was going crazy. Idk what they were looking at but Sony just looks so much more detailed and sharper
I’ve had the same research experience. I always wonder if each person has their own bias. I think to be fair these videos should start being a 3-way comparison. Side by side leads to a bias without context. I’d love to see the Epson LS12000 in between two others, better/worse. How bad can “the best laser” Epson offers be… like throw in the LS11000 or 6050 for context.
I actually live in DFW and was contemplating between this Epson and Sony as well. I saw this video and decided to go check it out myself at they're showroom. The Epson was great but I gotta say the Sony was way better. It was more detailed and over all a sharper image. Only took me a few minutes to come to that decision too. Both are impressive projectors but ill be going with the Sony for sure! Definitely recommend anyone in the DFW area to check out they're showroom; very friendly and very knowledgeable!
Thank you, Mr. King! It was great meeting you today and the kind words mean a lot. Can't wait to help you get this awesome projector when you are ready to pull the trigger. Take care! - Kacie Packer, Business Manager, Divine AV
This is a helpful comparison video. The description of the two products, though more complete with the Epson, and the detailed, thoughtful side-by-side review was helpful in understanding the merits of each product. It really seemed to by Sony's better image versus Epson's better enclosure.
@@DivineAV I watch a lot of projector comparison videos and your guy's format is in a league of its own. The quality, the lighting, the reversed side by side images, etc. If you guys could just do more of them you'd be the go-to projector comparison channel on UA-cam.

Don't be fooled into thinking the Sony is more resolute....The Sony has a great deal of internal sharpening and processing going on..... I mean A LOT. The Sony is not as sharp/accurate as it may seem on first glance in this comparison. Two key moments in this video to pay attention to: (make sure to watch in 4K, I'm viewing on an OLED screen btw) At 7:49 notice the intense amount of sharpening on the Sony making the Grand Turismo copyright notice lower txt almost unreadable vs the Epson. The Sony, using its Reality Creation engine creates the illusion of detail and sharpness by adding contrast to edges. Seems like the image is Sharpened around 40-50%....definition of txt really bad as a result .... Epson looks as expected. At 8:00 notice the Epsons even dithering of the red side light glow on the Porsche 919. Sharpening/Over processing on the Sony has created banding in the red glow gradient. Both projectors are great, however sharpening doesn't necessarily make a better or more resolute image. I'm not seeing much if any better/increased resolution here from the Sony. If the resolution was really better or clearer on the Sony the text at 7.50 wouldn't have appeared so bad. The Epson seems honest and really good. I'd say the Epsons 700 usable extra lumens are far more valuable than the 'perceived' sharpness of the Sony shown here for my tastes.....particularly if pairing the Epson with a HTPC and Mad VR for instance. If resolution was in fact been better/clearer on the Sony then the text at 7.50 wouldn't have appeared so bad. The processing in the Sony I think is adaptively pushing the dark tones up just a touch also for more clarity to the darks when needed. All in all these are pretty standard "enhancement tricks" in Photo and video editing. Can be cool.....Can screw the pooch!
You'd have to view these in person to make a proper comparison. UA-cam and streaming will compress the image, the filming may not have been in 4k. Your device will process the image you see to some degree. All things being equal the Sony should give a more detailed image due to it's 4k panel that the epson lacks - particularly when viewing 4k content, of course (where you wouldnt select 'Reality Creation' on the Sony, that's more of an aid for 1080p).
@@GS-pk9rd totally agree, we always urge people to come to our show room, if they’re in the area. If not, definitely go to your local audio visual provider and check out both.
Thank you for those accurate observations Paul. When 4K appeared, it seems it took away a part of the mystic cinema. We're used to watch movies with a shallow depth of field, where the character is drawn out of the background, everything around him is blurry. The motion blur vanished under True Motion/ Motion Flow option that many TV has now default. When I watch a film which is 4K, I have the impression I see all unwanted things, all the skin tone pores, all the details and it takes out the magic of cinema. I feel that Epson it doesn't boost the sharpness and details sharpening as I can see at Sony. The 8:00 with the red light is the best example of color banding made by enhancement tricks.
After seeing both of these I think a lot of the difference we are seeing in this video is down to how much artificial sharpening each machine is adding. When both of these processing in turned down or even off the look the same to the naked eye, so based on what I now know I think the Reality Creation on the Sony is set a lot higher than the Image Enhancement on the Epson.
Hello Thanks you for your vidéo I have some questions ! Have you upgrade the epson's firmware ? The last firmware increase the wobulation performance and the sharpness ! Another question : what's sharpness settings set on the Sony (reality création) and on the Epson (super résolution) ? Thanks
Hey there, yes we are on the latest released firmware. We did notice a slight increase in sharpness. When watching the projector on its own, it’s awesome. We have it in a separate demo room and everyone complements the picture. Both image enhancement settings were set at 75%. We may need to crank the Epson up a bit higher. But honestly, Epson is not trying to beat Sony. They are trying to create a very nice and well-rounded product. Both companies are doing a fantastic job and meeting their individual goal set. There is a use case for each projector and that’s why we work closely with our clients to determine the best projector for each of their individual homes. Thanks for watching
From an installer/ owner of av stuff for the last 27 yrs, you kids are doing a fantastic job with on these reviews. I do have some doubts about the Epsons focus adjustment because it is notoriously ambigous with the 12000. I wish Epson would introduce a wobulation shut off for focus adjustment which would definitely eliminate the issue. It is possible to miss the seet spot easily, if it even exists and have a loss of detail as a result. Thanks for the video.
Rock on brother, thanks for watching, and we appreciate the support. You sound like one of the good ones in our industry :) there’s so many guys out there who have no idea what they’re doing. It’s important to understand what you’re installing and give the client the true potential of the product that they purchased no matter what price range it’s in
Great video, thinking of upgrading from the VW590es, it would be nice to see a side by side with the 590 and the 5000. I appreciate the 590 is a couple years older but the 5000 is basically a laser upgrade over the 590, so I'd love to know how much of an improvement the laser brings.
Good comparison. But what I don't understand is how you placed the SONY projector on the shelf, since it expels hot air from the back, unlike the JVC which expels it from the front. You do not comply with the installation conditions indicated in the manual. That's my problem.
Interesting video. I've tinkered with the LS12000 settings quite a bit and my image doesn't look nearly as bad as the video. Maybe it just needs more adjustment? I ultimately choose the LS12000 because I read ENDLESS accounts of sonys panel degradation and that's just not something I want to risk. Not to mention on larger screens (135"+) the extra brightness is much appreciated in the Epson. Sony doesn't have a motorized lens like the epson but this isn't a dealbreaker.
That particular screen in the video isn’t the best in my opinion. It’s a Stewart screen. We have also been able to accomplish a bit higher quality image. We’ve sold multiple LS 12,000s. It’s an awesome projector and it’s very bright. Let us know if you need anything else for your theater. Thanks buddy
@@MasterMark5 For the most part, they do make very good screens. I think this one is a bit older. We custom build almost all of our screens using elite Screen Material. Our most sold brands are screen innovations and dragonfly.
Agreed I seen other comparison where the Epson is significantly brighter. In this comparison the Epson is actually lower in brightness than the Sony. The calibrater really dropped the brightness on the Epson. Ive seen comparison from Jonathan Englen where the Epson holds its own against a JVC NZ7, but that Sony sharpness really stands out and beats both the Epson and JVC NZ7 in sharpness. Both the Epson and NZ7 have similar sharpness and detail levels.
My home theater shop has both of these on display. Lucky me. The Sony absolutely blew the epson out of the water, no comparison. The Sony was so much more striking that I wondered if the shop had “detuned” the epson for some reason. I don’t know why they would do that? Maybe to push more Sony units 🤷
Yeah we have both on display and the Sony does have a bit of an edge on pure resolution. The Epson has some really killer features though. The picture quality is also very good for a little bit lesser price point
mr2cqql 4 seconds ago How is this compare to let say a tri laser UST projectors in DLP or 3LCD from Epson ls800? because I wanted to upgrade my vpl-hw45es from 2017 to a laser 4k and really don't know which is better as far as black levels and brightness.
That’s a pretty hard comparison. The picture quality is nearly identical. We will see about getting our hands on another LS 800 so we can do a comparison video for you guys
Love the shoot-out ! I have a 180" screen and leaning toward the Sony... Just think the BRIGHTNESS would not be enough... Would the Epson be perceived brighter? They look the same in the video (brightness). Thanks
They are very similar in brightness. Feel free to schedule a phone call with one of our experts if you’d like to consider purchasing from us. We can give you all of the information and discuss your individual environment. Divineavinc@gmail.com
Just as I suspected, native 4k panels even with an inferior lens (aberration induced by tiny size) will beat the pixel shifter. Hanging on to the LS10500 just a bit longer.
It was running the current software at the time of the video. It’s possible that the software came out shortly after that. We’ve sold a bunch of them and I can tell you that they are great projectors. The Sony is definitely a bit sharper, but the feature set on the Epson is unparalleled. Especially with our curved screens, the geometry correction is fantastic. Thanks for watching.

Because the manufacturers happen to have similar ANSI Lumen output at 75% laser power output. We set them at 75 for the video because the images were plenty bright for the test. The Epson is a bit brighter than the Sony when you crank them both to 100% laser output.
Thanks. Now can you do a XW5000 vs XW6000 and let us know if the 6000 is really worth the 2x+ price over the 5000? Where did you get the stand(wood/threaded pipe), I like that. Thanks.

What an excellently showcased demonstration. My only gripe is with the absence of constant height variable width screen implementation for Cinemascope and Widescreen film presentation, as is the cinematograph industry standard for film presentation in true cinema auditoriums. Something that our dreadful multiplex cinemas ignore, and the CI market at large fail to recognise. This demonstration however has informed some highly salient differences between the two leading products.
Yeah, the Sony appears to be sharper than pretty much anything but keep in mind that almost all of the other features on the JVC and Epson are a bit more advanced. The sharpness of the image is literally just one attribute to look at. I just installed an LS 12,000 and the customer was completely blown away. It’s a ridiculously good projector. It has some of the craziest adjustments I’ve ever seen at that price point. Take the video with a grain of salt, feel free to schedule a demonstration of our show room if you’re looking to purchase a projector. It’s much better to see it in person
@@DivineAV Thank you, but in the video you guys kept reminding us that you kept going back and noticing the difference in definition even when looking at other attributes, your words, not mine..lol.
@@luigy39 yeah I see your point. It’s probably because my personal preference is a sharper image. But personal preference aside, I really do see a lot of the benefits and the other projectors as well. I’ve been installing quite a few Epson‘s this week and the clients are very happy. We will do a separate video on each projector to dive more into the individual pros and cons
I recently got Sony 5000es. I’m really loving it. Sony 5000 is the Best But still can you please tell me do I really need Calibration for 5000es for more and more top notch quality on screen ?
I found on my Epson 6050UB that 4k pixelshift is actually worse vs 1080p native in terms of sharpness. I would recommend running the LS in 1080p and compare sharpness.

Definitely not if you’re trying to use a 2.39 Cinemascope screen. You would want the 6000 es for the lens memory functionality. Hey,,,,, I am very Interested in Sony* projector,,,,,, all I wanted to know what's the images size?? how manny inches that screen will have In Sony projector how manny inches up to???? Please let me know. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
It seems to me eyes that the color tonality in Epson looks better than Sony. Not sure, what the exact color science of each video clip is, but lets say for example at 4:15, the image from Sony has a purplish, closer to magenta tint compared to Epson's more grounded, closer to earth blue gray tone. I also find Epson's build quality, as seen in this video to be better, even though Sony has the "cooler" Stars Wars type design. It would be nice for this video to have focused more on film content as well, since the main use for these type of projectors are for Home Theatre and not for gaming. In the final analysis, all these tests, more or less, are a bit blind and subjective since the image is being recorded from a wall or screen, and then re-encoded through you tube's compression etc.
That was a superior video - thank you so much for that! I was planning on Epson 12000 but not anymore. I now go Sony... what is the Sony model with this specs like on the video but with motorized lens? I'm planning of having constant high image, so motorized lens is a must :-/

20k hrs is to half brightness, the laser still works. The new units are lighter due to smaller sxrd panels, light-path and lenses. Hello to you. It would seem that the two projectors, calibrated according to you, do not have the same light output on the screen, to the benefit of the Sony, which is less powerful than the Epson. Where does this come from??? Thanks for this video.
Hey there, thanks for watching. Light output was exactly the same. They were both set around 75%. In the highest setting, the Epson is slightly brighter. In our measurements, we measured 2498 ANSI lumens on the Epson and 2146 on the Sony. At 75%, they were nearly identical with a slight benefit to the Epson. Both units are absolutely fantastic. I would say they are pretty much neck and neck except for perceived resolution, but that’s to be expected because we are talking about a native 4K projector versus a very good shifting projector. Feel free to give us a call if you want to pick either one up. Take care buddy.
Thank you for watching and for your support. We do want to do another video because the Epson definitely has some features that the Sony does not. Like the geometry correction, automatic lens cap etc. As far as pure resolution, the Sony is the winner but both amazing projectors
@@DivineAV Hah. That's still a hedge! You have to pick one. I ask because I just had to make the same decision. I went with the Sony, the picture difference was just too big of a gap - particularly in the detail. Sony's color processing has always been a standout, but in your shootout - the difference in detail was pretty eye opening. When I go back and look at how we used our existing projector - once it was set up, that was it. Just turn it on and go. So really , picture quality was the biggest thing for me. I don't know if its pixel-shift vs true 4k ....or the processors....or both - but I did the Sony. And we had always done Epson prior. And my Epson's have been workhorses, but this time Sony got my $.

Appreciate the video. I owned a JVC NX7 for the last 3 years and recently picked up a LS12000. While I do think it throws a fantastic picture, I can make out the pixel structure from my first row seating (10') on my 141" scope image. Based on all the Sony XW5000s you've seen, would you say they've have good focus and panel uniformity? I had a VW715 for a brief while, but the white uniformity was pretty bad so I'm been a little hesitant on going back to Sony. Thanks again
I am going to be shooting my NX7 on to a 160” CIH screen. I feel like it won’t have the brightness I need. I’m eyeing the ls12000 as a potential replacement. What are your thoughts on them.

@divineav - I just stumbled across this excellent comparison video and happen to have this new Sony sitting in a box ready to be installed! Apologies if someone already asked this, but can you share the Sony configuration settings? I have a dedicated theater and would love to just be able to mimic your settings :)
It should not need any calibration. Out of the box it's pretty much on par. The difference in calibration would be almost impossible to tell. I have calibrated several projectors and this was the first one I never touched the settings, except laser output and gamma setting.
Can you please make a comparison video between 290ES and XW5000es? I read reviews which states that 290ES still remains sharper. Just want to know if it’s really worth the extra dollars considering 290ES is available at a steak price now.
Yeah, the Epson does look a bit better after the update, but I talked to Epson and they said the update wasn’t supposed to do anything with the resolution. It’s confusing. The features on the Epson are fantastic. The Sony is not brighter. They are about the same when set at 75% laser output, like in this video. The Epson does get a bit brighter than the Sony when you crank it up to 100% laser output
Are you genuine with pictures settings with the Epson ? Is the enhancement turned on ? Cause the epson seems very blurred !? I watched another comparison, Epson 12000 vs jvc nz5 the Epson was much sharper and brighter
Of course. We sell Sony, JVC, Epson, and Barco. We believe there is a home for each and every model. We have a really cool video coming soon on the Epson. It has very unique features. Stay tuned.
I was concerned about the refresh on the Sony 5000ES I ordered and the Epson LS12000, plus I could have gotten the Epson a lot sooner. My Sony finally showed up yesterday and I 100% made the right choice, it was well worth the wait. Absolutely stunning for a "reasonable" pricetag
When I saw Sony's demo of the xw7000es as Audio Advice Live last weekend the shadow detail was embarrassingly terrible and crushed to oblivion. I couldn't believe they had the guts to demo it in the room right next to the NZ9, which of course showed outstanding shadow detail. I couldn't imagine any sane person choosing the 7000 over the NZ9 based off of the demo. Are you noticing this problem in your Sony units? If not, is there any way to account for this?
Hey boss, we haven’t done videos on the higher end units yet but we haven’t seen a major issue with crushing dark tones, at least on the 6000 and 5000 units. Great video comparison! Would be helpful to know the screen used in the tests. size, gain, and texture as this could affect perceived brightness, blacks, and detail.

I ain't making accusations but I've seen this Epson ls12,000 in person it looks absolutely amazing I don't know what they're doing to their settings in this review comparison but I have not seen the Sony in person so what's going on here .
Resolution seems to have improved after the last software update. We sell both projectors and are not bias to either unit. The Epson has way more features than the Sony. Sony seems to have an edge on resolution even after the updates. Price point is relatively similar so it’s kind of a tossup and that’s why we have all of these on display so people can check them out for themselves. We are selling a bunch of both
Overall, very similar maximum brightness. We have additional videos with exact specifications coming soon. The Epson is slightly brighter and maximum light output mode.
yeah, we will do another one with both calibrated. We intended on doing it sooner but we have been pretty busy with installations. Keep in mind also that the software update on the LS 12,000 made the perceived resolution a bit sharper.
Not sure if you did the update with the Epson projector to the latest software. But with the update the Epson is a lot sharper and has a lot more detail.
When they’re not being played side-by-side, the Epson still looks very good. Especially with professional Calibration. They are both really good projectors and they each have their own unique feature set. Thanks for watching
Settings are spot on. Calibration was is extensive. I do have to say, we are not a fan of the screen that they have in that show room. It doesn’t do very well with the Epson or the JVC units. It looks much better in our show room out of Frisco. We plan on doing more reviews in our show room now that we have the actual units. These videos were done at the testing facility for one of the companies
Great video, it was a very interesting comparison. This is obviously a well informed channel but I have to ask with all respect if this was the most fair comparison possible? I noted you said you calibrated the projectors the same, but for as much hype as I've heard surrounding the LS12000, based on this video that Sony VPL absolutely blows it out of the water in every single way. The colors, the sharpness, the contrast, none of it was even close. Even alone the Epson looked surprisingly disappointing, so again I'm just kinda wondering if it was set to the best settings possible? Most people who can afford a $5k projector can probably afford a $6k projector, so are there actually any good reasons not to choose the Sony?
We made it as fair as possible. The Epson definitely has an incredible feature set. Having the ability to do geometry correction, build quality and brightness is fantastic. By itself it is actually pretty good. Side-by-side, the Sony beat it in sharpness. Put a MadVR on the units and it’s a whole different ball game. Far more equal. This video is concerning as i was about to pull the plug on a LS12000. Ive seen it look a lot better than you portray here. This showing is admittedly 2 yrs old and the Epson is still a current model in their line up. Not sure if the Sony is ! There was a recent Epson software update, like June '24, not sure what it addressed. Im going to search your more recent videos and hope the Epson has come around. My local dealer sells both brands, but its obvious to anyone they prefer Sonys lineup. That may simply be due to profitability, but their highest end demo room is an amazing Sony. I have not asked them which model, but just walking in the room, i can tell its beyond my pocket ! Its sourced with a Kaleidoscape $$$.
@@Kiwi-ot3wz thank you so much for watching. Yes the Epson was updated and it is now significantly sharper. There’s benefits to both projectors. The Epson has overall a bit higher built quality and it has advanced geometric correction for curved screens and other situations. Is about equal and both projectors are current lineup. Prices the same and Dealer margin is nearly identical so there shouldn’t be any dealer pushing one unit over the other. We sell both projectors. Put them side-by-side, the Sony is slightly sharper, but color accuracy might be a bit better on the Epson. You’ll be satisfied with either Projector when it’s in your house and not being directly compared to another Projector. We do need to do an updated video for sure. If you’re in the DFW area and the best demonstrations, give us a call. if not, work with your local dealer and he, or she should be able to point out the exact pros and cons of each unit. We greatly appreciate you watching and subscribe for more :-)
The Epson is actually quite a bit brighter than the Epson, so what gives? The MWAVE comparisons side by side did not make the Epson looked so dim and they were both calibrated too. Epson is rated at 2700 lumens. Sony at 2000 lumens. Yet Sony looks way brighter than the Epson in this side by side?
These units were both to 75% laser output. If you turn them up to 100% Epson is slightly brighter. Also with software updates, it’s significantly sharper now. Stay tuned to the channel because we have another Epson video coming out very soon. Thanks for watching.
That's crazy alot of other reviews say the pixel shift is only noticeable close to the screen but you canclearly see the difference, one thing is the epson is 700 lumens brighter, this test looks like Sony's brighter in most scenes, most other ones ice seen epson was clearly brighter
That’s why we did this test. We sell both projectors and the Epson is a little bit more affordable plus has some cool features that the Sony does not have. But the resolution is certainly better on the native Sony. Most of the other reviews are pretty ridiculous. Showing an image from 35 feet away at a trade show isn’t going to give people a good idea of the difference between the two projectors. Thanks for watching! Subscribe for more!
Oh, I’m sorry boss. Yeah we are actually a custom integrator in DFW. We do UA-cam in our spare time. We have installed thousands of projectors and TVs so we figured we should share some info.
Currently own an LS11000, which is identical in every way but for the contrast difference. On the Epsons they have what's called an Image Enhancer, which digitally sharpens the fine and broad details of the image. Choosing setting 3 is a good balance and does make a discernable difference. While it likely won't reach the Sony's sharpness/clarity, I'm sure it can get close. One thing to consider is the 5000ES achieves it's level of sharpness with the digital sharpening that's built in, and cannot be turned off. On the Epson you can. Given the higher quality lense of the Epson (and it is amazing btw, with perfect image uniformity and adjustability), 120hz, similar black levels, high brightness (that's fully adjustable), lens memory, great motion handling on par with Sony, quiet operation, etc etc, I feel like you're just getting more for the money with the Epson.
Thanks for your comment, they are both very good projectors. In fact, we have a really cool thing coming out on the channel with the Epson soon. The only thing to note about the Sony is that their 4k sharpening/upscaling feature isn’t fixed as mentioned. It is called reality creation and is fully adjustable. The Epson has five settings. The Sony has an entire range of adjustment. The Sony is a native 4K projector definitely has a sharper picture, but the Epson has very good contrast and amazing feature set. We use them often for our curved screens because of the amazing geometry correction. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for a side by side review. Thank you for your effort.
This side by side comparison is appreciated. Why don't I see this done more often?
We try to do things a little bit differently. We will definitely be shooting more videos soon
Because each projector cost about $5k
I really wish you guys could do way more of these comparison videos. They are immensely helpful. I would love to see one between the Sony and a JVC.
Are you specifically looking for the 5000 ES versus the NZ7 or the NP5?
@@DivineAV why not both? 😂 No but really I am specifically interested in the 5000 vs the nz7.

Thank you, my friend, that is extremely kind. We really appreciate you taking the time to write that.
One of the best and most straightforward demo I've seen on two good models. Thanks for sharing this!
Very clever method of comparison, most useful review that I have seen! Great work guys
Don't be fooled into thinking the Sony is more resolute....The Sony has a great deal of internal sharpening and processing going on..... I mean A LOT.
The Sony is not as sharp/accurate as it may seem on first glance in this comparison.
Two key moments in this video to pay attention to: (make sure to watch in 4K, I'm viewing on an OLED screen btw)
At 7:49 notice the intense amount of sharpening on the Sony making the Grand Turismo copyright notice lower txt almost unreadable vs the Epson.
Very detailed and accurate observations. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
I agree
Best comparison video I saw
After seeing both of these I think a lot of the difference we are seeing in this video is down to how much artificial sharpening each machine is adding. When both of these processing in turned down or even off the look the same to the naked eye, so based on what I now know I think the Reality Creation on the Sony is set a lot higher than the Image Enhancement on the Epson.
Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for in deciding between these 2 projectors!
Sure thing! If you’re in the States we have a price match guarantee and specials. Feel free to email. Divineavinc@gmail.com
Hello
Thanks you for your vidéo
I have some questions !
Did you get focus issues with the 590?
XW5000ES vs DLA-NP5 please!
@@DivineAV I thought Stewart screens were some of the best screens, what would you guys recommend as a better screen?
@@MasterMark5 For the most part, they do make very good screens. I think this one is a bit older. We custom build almost all of our screens using elite Screen Material. Our most sold brands are screen innovations and dragonfly.
my Epson 4010 looks way better then the LS1200 on this video
Thanks thanks thanks

Just as I suspected, native 4k panels even with an inferior lens (aberration induced by tiny size) will beat the pixel shifter. Hanging on to the LS10500 just a bit longer.
Was the Epson updated with the firmware, that massively improved the pixel shifting?

If I'm not mistaken, the same thing happened sharpness wise when you compared the Sony to the JVC, or Am I remembering incorrectly?
Yeah, the Sony appears to be sharper than pretty much anything but keep in mind that almost all of the other features on the JVC and Epson are a bit more advanced. The sharpness of the image is literally just one attribute to look at. I just installed an LS 12,000 and the customer was completely blown away. It’s a ridiculously good projector. It has some of the craziest adjustments I’ve ever seen at that price point. @@DivineAV Thank you, but in the video you guys kept reminding us that you kept going back and noticing the difference in definition even when looking at other attributes, your words, not mine..lol.
@@luigy39 yeah I see your point. It’s probably because my personal preference is a sharper image. Is it possible some of the blurriness of the Epson was due to the fact that it was paused? Idk if that also pauses the pixel shifting?

I recently got Sony 5000es. I’m really loving it. Sony 5000 is the Best But still can you please tell me do I really need Calibration for 5000es for more and more top notch quality on screen ?

with Sony VPL XW 5000 ES- I read that it is not the best for cinemascope movies. What do you say?
Definitely not if you’re trying to use a 2.39 Cinemascope screen. You would want the 6000 es for the lens memory functionality. Did you update the Epson firmware for the sharpness fix?
Yes, that was the first thing we did
It’s a phenomenal projector. We will be doing a separate Epson video

Great comparison. Thank you.
Thank you for watching and for your support. We do want to do another video because the Epson definitely has some features that the Sony does not. Like the geometry correction, automatic lens cap etc. As far as pure resolution, the Sony is the winner but both amazing projectors
@@DivineAV Okay - but bottom line it. If it was your $$ and you could have one. Which one are you taking?
@@iShootFast that’s tough. Sony for resolution and Epson for feature set. Epson can adjust for curved screens.
@@DivineAV Hah. That's still a hedge! You have to pick one. I ask because I just had to make the same decision. Sony's color processing has always been a standout, but in your shootout - the difference in detail was pretty eye opening. When I go back and look at how we used our existing projector - once it was set up, that was it. Just turn it on and go. So really , picture quality was the biggest thing for me. I'm looking for good value 150" screen for VPL-XW5000ES.
Thank you very much. We greatly appreciate the support. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to consider purchasing one of them from us. If you’re buying from us, one of us from the video would be happy to get on the phone and give you some advice.
The screen is 150 inches and it is a Stewart 150 inch acoustically transparent unit with 1.1 gain
Thank you so much and have a good weekend

Sony is left picture. Epson is right.
Didn’t the epson have a update that improved picture quality? The Sony looks brighter in this video, or am I crazy?
Stay tuned.
Epson on the latest firmware? They say the firmware improves sharpness.
Yes, it was updated. The Epson looks fantastic by itself. They both have positive attributes.
Awesome! Congratulations. Let us know if you need anything else for your Home Theater. Enjoy!

We will definitely do more testing and try to get some more content out on these units ASAP. Thank you so much for watching and we appreciate your support
@Zachary Setzer how the calibration on the units?
@@percybedford6266 The Sony rep was there. I assume he calibrated it but who knows. Similar results were reported at MWAVE on Sony units also calibrated by their own rep.
@@Zachary_Setzer I remember making a comment in another vid about the calibration on the Sony at MWAVE and a Sony rep replied to me and said he didn't have enough time with the machine to dial it in. Who knows though. I can see them releasing a firmware update in the near future.
@@percybedford6266 Yeah I saw that comment also. The problem seems more like a video processing problem than a calibration problem. In terms of calibration maybe a custom gamma curve would help, but there just doesn't seem to be any comparison on the tone mapping front. Still waiting for more info on how the Sonys perform with external DTM. The MWAVE example is all I can find.
Great video comparison! Would be helpful to know the screen used in the tests. size, gain, and texture as this could affect perceived brightness, blacks, and detail.
Thank you very much, it is a 150” 1.3 gain acoustically transparent screen
If you have a Scope screen it will be very hard to not choose the Epson.
Couldn’t agree more. The Epson is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to its feature set especially geometry correction.
That Epson has no chance... holy crap, I thought it would be close.
I just saw both of these back to back at my local HT shop. The Sony destroyed the epson. I’m spending the extra grand for sure.
The sony is a beast. If you haven’t purchased yet, feel free to reach out. We’d love to earn your business
Let's face it Epson thought they had a good value but Sony smoked them i checked out the ls1200 the lack of detail kept me waiting now the sony's on the way!!
Feel free to reach out whenever you’re ready, my brother. We will take care of you. We have a few units but we are still filling our pre-orders. We should have open inventory very soon. Divineavinc@gmail
I love sony
I ain't making accusations but I've seen this Epson ls12,000 in person it looks absolutely amazing I don't know what they're doing to their settings in this review comparison but I have not seen the Sony in person so what's going on here .
Resolution seems to have improved after the last software update. We sell both projectors and are not bias to either unit. The Epson has way more features than the Sony. Sony seems to have an edge on resolution even after the updates. Price point is relatively similar so it’s kind of a tossup and that’s why we have all of these on display so people can check them out for themselves. We are selling a bunch of both
The Sony is 2,000 ANSI lumens, but Epson is not rated in ANSI Lumens. Did ypunguys compare the maximum brightness on both of them?
Overall, very similar maximum brightness. We have additional videos with exact specifications coming soon. The Epson is slightly brighter and maximum light output mode.
Thank you😎👌
Seems that this comparision isn't fair. You should have calibrated both.
yeah, we will do another one with both calibrated.
Yes we performed the update prior to the video
👍🏾👍🏾
I'm more than willing to sacrifice a tad of image quality for the 4K 120hz support.
Yes some of the features that thing has are pretty crazy at the price point
xaxaxax πως φαινετε οτι θελετε να προοθήσετε τον sony? απλώς δεν κανατε focus στον epson
Wow, I'm surprised how much better the Sony is in terms of clarity. It looks like the Epson focus is off when compared to the Sony!
When they’re not being played side-by-side, the Epson still looks very good. Especially with professional Calibration. They are both really good projectors and they each have their own unique feature set. Thanks for watching
I just can't cant choose the Sony over the Epson for the lack of HDMI 2.1
I gotta ask the settings might be off of something I have an optoma uhd50 and it looks better than. The Epson right off rip
Stay tuned for more testing including my VR. If you’re looking to pick on these units up, we would appreciate The business. Take care my friend
@@DivineAV Thanks for the reply. Could you explain a bit about the MadVR and when you plan to make that video?
@@mikehendrickson85 You are very welcome. MadVR is an advanced image processing unit that is installed between your AVR/processor and your projector or TV.
It does frame by frame HDR tone mapping unlike anything you’ve ever seen. This is far superior to any other tone mapping on the market. I have had customers challenge us with specific content and we were able to exceed their expectations.
Mad VR extreme does advanced nonlinear stretching and therefore has the ability to remove or reduce the black bars that you get from 2.39 content.
It also does Advanced image enhancement, upscaling, extreme shadow recovery, curved screen manipulation and way more. This is on display in our Frisco show room. If you’re interested, we are happy to get you more information and put you with one of our professional system design experts.
These are very advanced products ranging from $8000-$13,500 MSRP. They are definitely for premium Home Cinema users but when you consider that we recently have been beating some $30,000+ projectors with $5000 and $6000 units and MadVR. The value is clearly right in front of us. Thanks buddy
@@mikehendrickson85 We will have videos out by next week on the MadVR and Kaleidescape systems. We are a direct dealer for both
@@DivineAV Nice, it'd be great to see the Sony 5000 and Epson 12000 compared with and without MadVR
What do you think about Sony's panel degradation? Is it worth to risk it?
Thanks for your question. We have sold well over 1000 Sony projectors in the past 10 years. It’s totally negligible. Sure, you could measure on day 1 and year 10 to see a difference. But that’s like buying a new car, dyno testing on day 1 with 0 miles and then expecting the same result at 100,000 miles. You will have wear on any unit. The units are solid. Thanks

@@DivineAV thanks
@@ChristianBungert 33months is not a lot 😔 did you fixed that? Is it fixable at all?
When is the new Epson video coming out?
@@DivineAV yeah for sure thanks for doing the comparison
For sure bud
Epson is similar lumen output when calibrated in a non dynamic mode.
I think the Sony is brighter because of the slim sxrd grid, the fill rate is because of that much more than the wide e-shift 3 lcd grid from the epson
I thought you guys were a review company.
😁
The Sony is better on almost everything. The Epson is good but it should be maybe 2999 - 3499 not 5000..
True!
