    Thanks for watching the video - I need to point out a slight error I made in my description of the projector. The MAX model has an all glass lens, the Pro 2 has a 14 piece pure glass lens with one resin glass piece in it. I am sorry about the mistake I mis read the information that was sent to me. Frankly you have sold me on the Max version OMG, I just spent $3,325 AUD on a Kickstarter project and I'm not 100% sure the minimum throw distance from thescreen which is unknown to me?? Is suitable for my 4m by 3.5m dimensions room, plus I need to find a suitable screen. But I have a bit of time and hadn't anticipated buying a projector when wanting to upgrade my PC monitor and sound system. I have bought the Burson Audio Timekeeper 3i Headphone & Speaker Amplifier, I'm yet to purchase the OLED monitor and still considering which speakers to get, possibly the Sonus Faber Sonetto II G. Both upgrades will have to wait as I now need to save a Lot more money.

      World's looooooooongest Kickstarter page, bar none. They seem to have like half a dozen models, except the ones sold out already, I'll be damned if I even understand what they are selling and for how much? Also, no projecor in the world can deliver a 15,000:1 contrast ratio. Triple-panel DLP DMD DCI-class cinema projectors are happy with around a 2,000:1 CR. Way too much hype and unfounded promises here, not enought hard facts.

    For this product to compete with a traditional long throw ratio projector the case needs to be probably an inch longer and it needs a throw ratio of at least 1.6, preferably up near 2.0. If that were achieved, that would truly step on Epson and Sony toes. From a 120" screen people want to sit a decent distance from it. The easiest way to set one up is on a shelf behind you. Therefore it should ideally have a throw to achieve both outcomes. My 2c.

      Valerion said on their facebook page, that they are working on an alternative Lens Kit for longer throwing distances for the max model, which can probably be bought separately. There should be an update on the matter in January 2025 at the CES.

    Very nice. A lot of features and performance crammed into a very small form-factor. Most 4K projectors are huge monsters. I recently replaced my aging Sony VPL-VW60 (1080p) with a native 4K JVC DLA-NP5 - and I was unable to reuse the hush-box I had for the Sony - due to the enormous size of the NP5. Two questions on the Valerion Pro 2: 1. Is this a native 4K? I read somewhere that the panels are 1080p - and that 4K is achieved via pixel shifting. 2. This is probably a dumb question, but why is half the lens area covered with the company logo? Even if it doesn't affect the image, it just seems odd to be purposely covering up part of the lens area. Thanks for posting this review video. I'll definitely be following this one as people get hands-on experience with it.

    • @stonix1992
      @stonix1992 Місяць тому

      From my perspective: No. It might be better, but it will still be a bad joke.
      I could puke watching all these "reviews", which are clearly paid by VisionMaster. As this thing was something completely new on the market and as if no one else before tried to implement a dynamic IRIS / adaptively dimmed laser ...
      ... And in the end, its a chinese product for even over 2000 bucks (which is still expensive compared to used-market prices of REALLY good projectors.... The ones which deserve a new lamp and a second handed life) that will last for about 8 month before something will terribly go wrong. I know what i talk about, i have had my experience with the more expensive, chinese "high-end" products.
      Just for a comparison:
      - I had an Epson TW6600 ... with a static on-of contrast of 1'300:1, but a dynamic iris that rises it to about 13'000:1 .... i was disappointed.
      - I had an Epson TW9200 ..... with a static of 8'000:1, and a dynamic IRIS up to 50'000:1 .... and even that didn't satisfy me.
      - Now i got an JVC X7000 // RS500 ... and THIS solved many of my problems. The color accuration while being calibrated is gorgeous, and the black level is just black.
      This thing has a static on-off contrast of 120'000:1 and a dynmamic IRIS contrast up to 1mio:1 ... (These values are often confirmed by professional reviews by practical values from 50'000:1 to 80'000:1 contrast ratios. Some state, that the 120'000:1 will only be reached, if the second, manual, iris will be completely closed. In the most cases this is not an option due to the 300 Lumens in that case.
      What i want you to consider is:
      - 4'000:1 as a static contrast is a joke
      - 16'000:1 with "EBL" is an even more funny joke (only factor 4 with laser-dimming? seriously? How did they realize that, via a simple resistor on the Laser-light?)
      - 2000 Bucks are money!
      - This product, even if its chinesium or not, will suffer from the missing experience that this company has on the market. Maybe the cooling is not sufficient for the Panels, maybe some important settings are not accessible. Maybe the in-picture contrast, which mostly depends on the optics, will be horrible (no review i have seen measures it), maybe a good calibration will not be possible (Remind: You cant calibrate a projector by hand, using the RGB values. A dedicated software-connection to the projector firmware has to, because of the panel non-linearities and so on)
      I have read a review, in which the 3000 lumens were lowered to 1500 lumens during a calibration (which really speaks its own language! For a laser projector, where others only loose 20% of their brightness), and after the calibration, a 100% white picture still had a huge green overshoot.

  • @CinemaDemocratica
    @CinemaDemocratica 2 місяці тому +2

    I have about 1,000 questions but almost all of them are more appropriate to direct to the manufacturer, so here's my three for this venue:
    1. I don't stream at all -- any kind of content, through any platform, on any tech -- I have 5,000 film titles on a local, physical drive. Is this projector going to be able to live with that, or am I going to get bombarded with messages saying I need to connect it to something "smart" so that it can load scripts on itself that forcibly self-destruct the rig in nine months with error messages saying some part of the system is "not supported" anymore? (And, bonus question, why exactly does a single person anywhere on earth put up with that crap? Y'all do realize that "not supported" is code for "We've arbitrarily decided that it's time for you to give us more money for the same thing you already have," right?)
    2. Nearly all of my content is old -- some of it is 720p and some of it is 480p and some of it is even lower-res than that. I gather that this projector did a good job with UA-cam but I've had *really* bad experiences trying to view 480p content on newer tech in the past. A 4k short-throw laser projector made my 480p movies look like they'd been shot with a potato. My current projector is an Optoma HD27x, which is about seven years old and looks really nice with this content, and Reddit seems to think my upgrade path is through a gently used JVC DLA-X70. Will I think the Valerion is an upgrade over both of those choices, even when watching 480p movies?
    3. There's some commentary here about comfort-level with pre-ordering via Kickstarter and, given questions 1 and 2, it won't surprise anyone here to know that I'm squarely in the not-entirely-comfortable camp, but what's missing is a discussion of just how much more expensive the projector would be if I chose to wait. Anyone have any thoughts? If it's the difference between $2k USD and $3k USD, I might be prepared to hold my breath and take the plunge, but not if the upcharge is a couple of hundred dollars; I can keep the Optoma and save up to pay the premium when the Valerion is conventionally available.
    TIA.

      The Pro2 models is $2100 on Kickstarter and they claim their retail prices will be $3500. They're part of a company already producing projectors (AWOL Vision). The Hisense is not quite at this level, 1600ansi brightness would be ok for 100inch but you need more for larger screens to get real punch. Hi, an excellent personal review.
    I'm considering the Max to replace my old Optimo up on my ceiling for my 150" ceiling mounted screen.But it seems to only have a flimsy 6mm screww thread in the middle on the underside for ceiling mounting, which is even smaller than a standard 1/4" camera tripod thread. Can you tell me if it has the standard 3 to 4 screw hole ceiling mounting points. As I cannot believe that a flimsy 6 mm screw thread is going to be sufficient to saftely hold up on the ceiling this 7.5kg of weight, let alone be sturdy enough to cope with any vibracion. if not have you actually tried mounting this on a ceiling. It had the the same thread as you would get on a modern digital camera. They are going to sell a ceiling mount system so maybe it has a bracket for a more secure fit. Or maybe camera products could work to give you a more secure mounting. Not sure about anything more for this at the moment

    They claim 4ms in 1080p/240… sounds good but does it turn off all the processing to get that frame rate? Then are we just stuck with the poor native contrast at high frame rates. What about 4k/120 frame rate and processing?

      On a side note I have been a longterm view of your channel and like your audio reviews…. Just giving honest feed back.
      Comment below regarding the XGIMI Ultra.
      -in game mode the colors were locked in some kind of cooked vivid mode and could not be adjusted fully.
      -if you used the digital zoom at all the light output would stay the same size but the picture would shrink, leaving a “light” box around the image. Basically you had to mount it in the perfect position to not use digital zoom.
      -sparkle. I use an all white screen 1.1 gain.
      -horrendous black levels, worst I have ever seen. Felt like a 1990s rear projection tv.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  Місяць тому

      Fair cop - the grey border around the image is a downside of DLP projection which is why digital reframing of the image is not perfect, however you can lose this into the black area surrounding the screen. Some PJ's are better at this than others which is interesting. That is where the optical zoom of the Valerion Max will fix this issue
      I am sorry about not covering the gaming side of projectors I just dont have the experience there so I didn't know about that otherwise I would have mentioned it. These are the issues that get sorted with firmware if they are fed back.
      I didnt think the black level was that bad, but the image was a little mushy, however the Benq projector and Sony I had before both cost 3x and 6x as much and were more mushy so that was not on my radar. Imagine seeing a projector of that form factor and price for the first time and on a 4 metre screen up against the sony and it wasn't that much difference. The Sony was better but not that much considering the huge price and size difference.
      However I could move the projector to fit the image size for less digital manipulation maybe that is part of the difference. Now I have seen a lot more of these PJ's I have more experience to speak about them for good and bad. The Horizon Ultra was the first one, sorry it exceeded my expectations for what it costs.

      I think some of these companies should put the lifestyle projector in a long throw body as an alternate model. It would solve at lot of problems for people with dedicated theaters.
      I think this tech is great and I would love to see pressure on Sony and JVC to bring down the their prices. They both have gotten a little nutty.

    Great review, I put down the 50 $ at their website before the Kickstarter launch, and I intend to get the max, but what is curious to me no one is taking a little meter to the screen to measure the output. Or was it a condition from Valerion to not do it, as those are pre-production models?

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  2 місяці тому +3

      I was hoping to side by side them, but there was no chance for that here. They have a bit of a different look from memory. The Valerion is cleaner and clearer in som ways and manages the extremes of the image better I feel and I think maybe the JMGO is doing some noise reduction to the image, but dont hold me to that. The colours are more saturated on the JMGO but I dont know if thats a better thing or a worse, I think worse as its not giving such a good colour gradation, its all a bit thicker but I am not 100% on this without a side by side.
      The Valerion has a much better menu and better setup and picture controls and far more format support for HDR and the menus are much faster and snappier to use always
      I think the brightness of the two are fairly similar, I think JMGO has a little more black crush so that makes the black look more solid on the screen, so it looks the more contrasty, but I think that is an illusion as the better gradation of the Valerion brings more out of the image.
      The JMGO is quieter, a bit smaller and you get the gimbal and it costs less.

      No because contrast is the difference between light and dark so showing more in the darks is better but your eye can be tricked iswhat I meant. So a thicker less detailed black can look more contrasty when in reality it’s not. Hope that makes sense.

That new fangled Epson thing that people rave about? Just helps to get a sense of the overall performance. Also a little more detail on the lens manufacture would be great.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  2 місяці тому +1

      Without doing a side by side with those PJ's I cant really say much. You should expect to get better performance from JVC £10k or £25k projectors of course, but all I can say is I saw the 9 last year on a 5 metre screen and the 7 on a 120 inch screen and then I saw this on a 4 metre screen and I had the reaction you saw. The value is what it can do for the size and cost, its shocking how far this type of PJ has come. The value is how it can fit into your life being so small and easy to setup etc. I would say common sense still applies as it always does but you do get a lot here for your money.

      @Toid 2 місяці тому +1

      Are you sure about the 6,000-8000 hours per year? That is an average of 16-22 hours per day. That seems excessive. Even if you watched your projector eight hours every single day never missing a day you’re under 3000 hours per year.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  2 місяці тому +1

      That is fair enough and your right, but in the same token your bulb projector could develop a fault outside its warranty too, so there is always some doubts and inevitably some people will be unlucky but thats all tech. Laser light sources in projectors have been around a while now so its not new tech, it would be much more expensive if it was new. I would be most worried about the heat but these projectors produce far less heat for more brightness than bulbs which is likely why they can be so small. So heat is not an issue here at all it barely gets warm even at max brightness on all day.

      The problem is with high lumens projectors and the camera recording. Each camera has a limited dynamic range, so the brighter the projector is and you set the correct exposure in the camera so the highlights are not overexposed the shadows get too dark or clipped even. There is no way to show the black levels as in reality with a footage. At the end is your display/monitor which has it's own minimum black level that could not display the blackest level if it's a poor quality panel and the projector was a JVC for example. (Unless you have an OLED monitor).

      Yes on paper I agree the very expensive projectors will still be better for numbers like contrast, however I have seen top end sony's and JVC (not the very latest ones) and you dont watch this one and think its poor by comparison. Its the opposite you cant believe how good it is for its cost and size etc. But yes of course the very expensive ones will be better in thos areas but this closes the gap for people that cant have, cant afford or dont want the big boxes and the heat and the noise that comes with them. Lets not try and poo poo this its important development. It forces the big boys to do better

      Most likely this is a legitimate project and will see fruition since you received a sample product to review.
      Not to digress into a Kickstarter bashing diatribe, and with that, I have been burned about five times on KS over the years. Granted, nothing nearly this expensive, but it’s all added up to enough money that I simply won’t back any platform project like this again.
      I’d rather spend more on an available product than to have “given to a theft campaign”.
      This 4K projector looks like a really nice product. It will be even more interesting when it does hit the market and we start to see numerous reviews on it.
      Great job in your review and thank you!

      That’s a by product of the camera record rate and refresh rate (shutter speed)being totally different to the content frame and refresh rate. You don’t see that in the flesh I did explain this before the demo section.

    • @antoniogutierrez2261

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem Sorry but this affirmation, about colour wheel, is not correct. The RBE is made by the single chip design (TI 0,47 XPR). In a trilaser (RGB) projector the RBE is minimium since laser pulse frecuency is higher than colour wheel. By the way, thanks for this video, your feedback is very apreciated.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  2 місяці тому +3

      Thanks I didn't know that - what I don't go into details about is the video frame rate is 29.97 FPS and the movie clips are obviously 24fps so it should look all juddering and it can obviously so I can't show everything, more stationary shots work out better, some movement is ok but some artefacts are inevitable.
      Now with some projector frame rates you get horizontal banding which I did get some of here for the googletv clips that were TV as the frame rate was different again and I have to adjust the camera shutter speed to minimise this. This is all due to the camera settings not matching up but I cant change them as the main video cant be 24 and 30 and 50 so I stick to the same as always 29.97. Hope that makes sense
      With a colour wheel projector I have to do it for 24fps movie clips too, I didn't with this projector. So as I said in the video its not perfect but it cant be perfect anyway as the source is HDR and my YouTUbe content is not so its just the best I can do right now.
      In the flesh none of this is an issue at all, its how cameras work, they are not designed for this :)

    Right away, the lens is too high. Most - if not all - place the projector on the ceiling. With the lens so high, you will need more lens shift, which adds distortion - or you need to lower the projector.

      yes but factor in the video your watching has a frame rate of 29.97 and was shot at 59.98fps, the movie is 24 with a totally different refresh rate so it should look a lot worse than that, all of it. So like I said in the video the content is not the same as in the flesh, its the best I could do given the challenge of capturing 4 metres of bright HDR content all at different frames rates then editing it down to SDR with a set frame rate of me taking to camera - an impossible task. I havent seen any video that gets close to the quality I captured, I think they all look shit and show nothing of how good this PJ is real life.

    This is not a new manufacturer and you know this. All the other reviews say it is Valerion made by AWOL Vision. Why would you confuse people and not tell the truth. The Kickstarter page has video reviews saying this and Valerion was out boasting for two months that it is a sister brand of AWOL. Very misleading.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem

      I did say Valerion is the sister company to AWOL but it’s not AWOL is it, so it’s a new manufacturer in the projector space. When they originally approached me about this it was my idea to make people aware that Valerion is the sister company to AWOL, originally it was going to seen as totally separate to not confuse people. It’s semantics this is a new product with some new ideas designed by some of the same people.

Proof I know what I am talking about without doing a side by side I have seen so many systems in so many homes and other places.
      JVC are designed to hold on their black floor at all costs and forgo brightness for that if necessary a bit like how the Formovie projectors are designed. That makes sense as that is where true dynamic range lives in the greys. The black floor in the Pro 2 is a little raised by comparison but the overall average APL of is brighter and easier to watch I think and I prefer that personally and I push that as much as possible in the setup of.

      It won’t be that for ansi contrast, even the best jvc are not that. That will be the on off contrast which is not the viewing contrast.
