Yeah, nah. Miss me with that "both sides are the same" nonsense. You have only to look at what laws & policies one side legislates versus the other to tell that is grossly false.

I see Aesop, I click like. Especially if you dive into those lyrics.

Man thank you for doing aes as much as you do. Very few youtubers react to him. I really wish he was more appreciated

Aesop has never gotten enough love, in my opinion. The man is crazy good at the craft. ❤

This was written and produced in the wake of the 2020 anti-police-violence protests. Nothing complicated about it (which doesn't make it any less powerful). This is just Aes repeating something he's said in other tracks (like Klutz) - if you're going to make a difference you have to show up in person, fight hard, and be prepared to get beat up or arrested. But, new to this track, you also have to take a step back and a deep breath and appreciate the good things in life too or you'll burn yourself out on rage.

I know this is an old video, but I hope you see this comment. You've nailed a lot of things about this song, but there's a couple things you might have misconstrued. Aes wrote this album after the death of MF Doom, He and Doom were homies, and Doom was a major influence on Aes and his styles. He's talking about anger in civil unrest, he's talking about not taking people in your life for granted, he's talking about putting down the tricks and showing up for the real work. He wants to hop in his van and drive away as fast as he can, but moving the body from place to place will never cure a darkness that is carried in the heart. He's talking about seeing his community turned on its head. A "pock mark" can be viewed in different ways. I believe he's referencing Heroin use, and how the cities and powers that be shove people into situations where they can't get over their addictions. They turned a whole block into drug users, ruined the area, and then claim that they had no responsibility for how it got there (Feigning shock like they didn't know that was the end goal.) You've nailed a lot here, but like every Aesop Rock song, there's layers and layers of metaphors and feelings to dissect. I don't view myself as some kind of expert, but this is my perspective of the song. Cheap tricks and party gags won't cut it anymore. Life is real, and you can't turn a blind eye to everything happening around you. Next time you blink someone you may know may be gone, so cherish them while you can, and do everything in your power to leave life better for the next generation, while being wrapped in general angst and disgust over the current climate. Also, FYI that's Aes on the bridge at the end of the video where the beat change happens. He's watching the kid jump in to the water ( which is often viewed as cleansing, washing away all the dirt and detritus that he walks through the previous night. )

My first introduction to Aes was his collab album with Kimya Dawson called The Unincluded. Highly recommend if you haven't heard it, reaction or not

This is one of the best Aesop tracks. The intesity never stops building.

'While the pigs court civil war' to me is a reference to animal farm, meaning those in power generally more than specifically in reference to a party or group.

Actually sad this video isn't to even 1k views. This man is one of the most insane rappers alive and your breakdowns are so intelligent to go with his lyrics.

Aes going in so much on the Police is not surprising.

Always a pleasure to hear your reactions dude. Thanks for the Aesop Rock stuff. I've been a fan of his since 11th grade and I'm 39 years old now. Still a huge fan.

The song is a reflection on the riots of 2020. Thats it. Thats the whole thing.

You need to check out the Aesop x Tobacco project, Malibu Ken and then also Hail Mary Mallon, which is Aesop and Rob Sonic. The beats on Malibu Ken are experimental, with Tobacco really pushing the boundaries. Aesop lays down great lyrics as always. Its an incredibly interesting project that still feels fresh. Great reaction and break down as always. Looking forward to more!
