But when you're on shore power, is your inverter charging your batteries or is your converter charging them? Do you have a wire diagram of your setup? Thank you.
The converter is only active when plugged into shore power. Using an inverter to run a converter to charge batteries would likely cause some very bad issues. I tapped into the shore power before the transfer switch to power the converter. I have a crude diagram here: drive.google.com/file/d/1QDBUCFh-0lFnDBGuUoXo0WwYrqm20vbB/view?usp=sharing Please let me know if you can see it!
@@AlcoholFreeRV HGi! Thank you for this! In your diagram, where does the generator fit into the schematic? Or, in your video, how is the inverter tied to your generator?
@Glenn James I don't have a generator. Assuming you have a portable, just plug in the shore power cord. If you have an Onan/ builtin, and a standalone inverter similar to mine, you would have to determine priority and include a second transfer switch. I envision i would have the output of the present transfer switch into the left side of the second xfer, and the genny in the right side. The output of the second would go to the main panel
I appreciate the video on troubleshooting inverter/shore/gen power priority and how to test and resolve. I believe this video is really helpful for folks who have retrofitted an inverter and especially DIY solar installations. Thanks and Happy Spring!
Just emailed PowerMax after watching this vid. The reply says “generator is priority.” Well I’ll be damn, you solved it. Just the video I needed to help explain what perplexed me. Thank you!
Great Idea to back feed shore power with inverter. As your inverter appears to be 120VAC how did you hook up from the 120 VAC 20 amp outlets to the T-57R ? did you jumper L1 to L2 [putting 120vac on both sides of your WFCO Power Center WF-8950?] , neutral to neutral, and ground to ground?
Quick question, i dont hear a buzzing sound coming from yours? I have the original 50 amp ats that has the two big relays in it and it buzzes just like every other ats like it. Is this style different?
Thanks for the great information. I'm also looking to add an inverter in my 5th wheel. It's pre wired for a generator with a WFCO T57-R transfer switch. All I want is to power a few outlets, for a coffee maker, to recline the electric chairs, maybe the tv. I might also want to wire a generator into the transfer switch. Do you know if I can piggy back the inverter wires and the generator wires into the same lugs?
Thanks for the video! I bought a 219BH Passport and it is solar ready. I bought an expansion panel and is fine, but then when I was going to install the inverter...I removed the "future inverter location" box and a 20AMP yellow Romex wire appeared, no ends, is a loop so it comes out of the wall and goes back inside the wall. I don't see any other wires (to the battery) but the converter is next to it so I guess I can wire it directly to the LOAD connectors in the converter. How do I find pictures or instructions on how to deal with the ROMEX loop? I was expecting a terminal or end of the cable. The owners manual reads that is "pre-wired for seven outlets" but I pull and both ends seem to be connected unless it is snagged and I am too weak or afraid to pull hard. My thing is that if it comes prewired is best to use it and looks like that Romex protruding out of that hole like an intestine is where it needs to go but it does not make sense to splice it. I called and chat with Keystone but the girl in the chat had no idea and when I asked for a diagram, like the blue prints of a house, but she says they don't send those to customers. Not even the roof plan to see where the joists would be for the solar panel brackets. I could test the wire but I don't want to cut the insulation. I took pictures but I don't know how to upload them here, ha!
I wouldn't put much stock into manufacturer "prep". Since I don't have a Keystone, I don't know where to begin, although it does sound like youre in the right direction that one end of that loop probably pulls out, but which one? my email is the same as the channel name, without spaces, at gmail I'd be curious to see how we can get you going!
Thanks for the video. I’m looking to add the WFCO transfer switch and will want to leave the inverter on even when we’re on shore power as we have some other devices plugged into the integrated inverter outlets.
