Laser Pop: Thanks for the video. I need to learn if a K40 laser like yours can cut a craft stick. I want to cut a .2 inch wide rectangle in the sticks about 3 inches long. I would appreciate if you could tell me if the laser would cut a nice hole without too much burning. How much time do you think it would take to do a batch of 12?
It will cut through a craft stick. Not sure how much burning, since I haven't tried it, but there will be char. But you can put some masking tape on the surface to cut the soot. the inside will be chared, though. You can also hit it quickly with sandpaper to remove the soot, too. The setup will take longer than the cut. But if I was to guess, maybe 30 minutes? Certainly under an hour.
@@LaserPop Thank You - 3 Subs from me. Your detailed answer made a big difference. What do you think of the OMTech K40 40W? On an ebay listing from the company the only software they say it will work with is Laser DRW and Corel Laser. I prefer using DXF files from my CAD drawings. Is this possible?

It was some scrap wood I had laying around. In this case, it was particle board from a flat pack shelf. Hope this helps!

Those are in the video. I posted them during the setup section @ 1:40 and during each step of the engrave.
How did you get the template of the sticks?
I just took some measurements of the sticks. Check out the video on Designing Garden Markers. That will show you my technique.
