Play with Lasers! Join the fun with k40 laser projects, tips, and tutorials.
I'm using a K40 Laser that I lightly modified. I use it as another tool in my woodshop that I use to embellish projects. Sometimes I use the laser for the whole thing. Either way, I'm able to create a lot of fun projects with it. I hope you find what I'm doing interesting, inspiring, or informative. (hopefully all three) If you do, please subscribe. I'd love to have you on board.
I hope you enjoy my videos. ;)

Laser Engrave Garden Markers - K40 Project
Переглядів 3,5 тис.4 роки тому
I made some simple garden markers with the K40 laser. I used regular craft sticks you get at a craft supply store and laser engraved my vegetable names with a little bit of embellishment. We set up the k40 to do a batch of these. In the end, I engraved 72 garden markers, which will last me a few seasons. K40 Laser Cutter & Engraver What Do You Really Need To Get Started?
Переглядів 6 тис.4 роки тому
What is the bare minimum you need to get started with the K40 Laser and get it functional in your shop? I haven't upgraded very many things, but I'll show you what I did. My current setup works really well and can do most things I need it to do. With a few alterations, you can do a lot of really cool projects. Eventually, you may outgrow it. But for now, here's how to get started. :) UPDATE Bee...
Great informative video. If I had one suggestion, you have a laser, you could mark up the piece of timber with that instead of a pencil, :) I know there's technically no difference but you know...laser beams !!!
so I see raster engrave in k40 whisper but not in lightburn... is there a way to do it in there or setup this engraving or should I just use k40 whisper and move on with my day?
What is the correct method to ensure you are setting the correct power % on this laser? The Monport manual says : “Laser Power Display: This displays the current power of the laser as a percent of its maximum intensity. Adjust this setting accordingly to process various material s . For most material s, an intensity between 20% and 60% i s optimal . when aligning the laser beam, you should use a setting lower than 30% for safety reasons . Remember: Running your laser tube above 70% power can significantly shorten the laser tube's lifetime (We recommend staying below 70% power to prolong the life of your laser tube)” So I can only assume there are 2 ways to run the power on this machine. (1) If you run the power knob like the manual says, you then must use 100% for all operations IN THE SOFTWARE, and thus control the % of power with the knob (and make sure it never goes above 60% or you damage your laser tube). - OR - (2) Turn the knob to 100%, and control actual % of power via the software settings. Since my Monport K40 power display shows mA, and NOT % of power, so I’m not sure how you can set “20% to 60%” power (as per the manual) by using the display gauge. Any folks out there have the actual answer as to which method is correct? Thanks
Nice video
4 year old video and still relevant! You just saved me from hours of trying to figure out why my K40 wouldn't cut through 1/8" light plywood! Once I found the height difference I designed and 3D printed holders to hold the ply at the correct height and it started ripping through in one pass! ++ for you sir!
Just watched a couple of your videos, I have now subscribed to your channel. Thank you. The videos are straight to the point and explained clearly. 🇬🇧
Hello laser pop. I just described to your page. Thx for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. We really appreciate it. I’ve scanned through the notes but I am not able to print gem for reference. Is this an option. To print or is there another way access these notes so I print them ❤
Hello there.. This is a good idea, since you don't have to insert a wedge dial to measure the distance between the material and the nozzle where the laser comes out, which may damage the rail carriage bearing repeatedly. But one thing i noticed when cleaning the lens and then reinstalling the nozzle head; the focus may change a lot just by lowering or raising the nozzle body with respect to # 3 mirror (Gantry mirror). So you have to readjust everything one more time and then do a ramp test and get the focus right.
Brilliant. First video that I have seen about positioning and aligning the pieces. I just bought a used k40 off Ebay, and I was wondering how to centre the jobs, as there is no reference on the table. A simple L shape to the Y-0 X-0 point would have been useful I think
are there any engravers for beginners under $500? this plant tag engraving is my only reason for now that I am looking to purchase one?
Very informative and concise. Thanks
Thanks, that was great. Just got mine
Unpredictable performance. Some days the OMTECH CO2 laser works, and other days it refuses to cooperate. Inconsistent and unreliable.
All K-40s are “sketchy” that’s half the fun.
Have you ever engraved the actual canning jar😊? I’m trying to engrave an old Ball jar and it’s not coming out very smooth. 😢
I haven't found a way to contact you other than through a comment. I would be interested in paying you to get some lids made. Can you give me a way to contact you. Facebook page, or something. I appreciate it.
OMG dude - just cut a jig/holder.
Thank you very much. I was having trouble adjusting the laser focus distance
What's your settings (mm/s and power) in 4mm plywood or even 3mm acrylic ?
You are not cutting the wood (ramp) you are just engraving? What about cutting
I don't have a miliamp gauge on my unit. Do you have an idea what that might be on the power level? TIA
Can't you just cut a piece of wood/acrylic that is the distance from the laser head to the material? And then just put that on top of whatever you're cutting and raise the bed until it hits?
So glad I found you! I have a 100W Omtech but my son brought me home a k40 just like yours! it's been used but looks in great condition. The water tubing is yucky though and I want to replace it before I even try to power it up. What do you suggest for tubing? I only have farm supply stores in my area and I doubt they have this kind...would regular tubing work? Thank you for your easy to follow vids!
Just what I needed, got myself a K40 yesterday and finishing getting set up, all good to go now, thanks buddy
i have laser machine what is the material amazone site details
Curious to know how much the focal length you found defers from the manufacturer’s recommended focal length? Thanks for sharing this tip.
cheers man, ive been struggling to even draw a line on inkscape, super helpful.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! My K40 is delayed in shipping, but being able to flatten the learning curve with your notes is going to be so helpful!
WOW....first video I saw of yours, subscribed halfway through. Absolutely perfectly edited and clearly explained to be the perfect balance of concise and informative. And it may save me from tossing my K40 out a window! ThankyoU!
Nice qnd simple. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from Sicily buddy
This guy does by far the best information vids on the K40 .
You should be more telling which type of files you are saving the graphics you create. You are clicking so fast and one can not see what Buttons you are pushing... even while watching Videos on my phone. Could increase the use that your Videos bring a lot. That is now the 3rd video from you that i saw and that is totally frustrating that i am not able to follow what you are doing.
Sorry but does the link still exist please.

Low long did you wait for the paint to dry before you engraved?
Excellent! Thanks for your help!
Do you have to apply a finish afterwards?
You ran this ramp test at 20 mm/s which is a sort o CUTTING speed. IF you run the same test at ENGRAVING speed 200 to 300mm/s you will find you have a different focus. The ramp test is not finding the fixed OPTICAL focus set by the lens manufacturere but an INTENSITY focus that will change with speed, power and material. Check it out for yourself.
You’re so clear in your videos. I heard a mess of a ramp test before this video. Thank you for your clear concise videos.
A round bubble level on the surface of the bench/lab jack might be worth an idea too. Will give you a level at all axis' that way.
This is very helpful, thank you for sharing your methods with us!
i want to do this project but i think i have a partial clog in my water tube, but i can't reach the water tube, do you have any advice on how to check it or reach it, or links to any videos? ive been looking on youtube but haven't seen one. thanks
i love your shop! its the organization i dream of! and this video was really useful! now that i finally got my k40 to start working :)
What’s the dims of the platform wood have? Waiting for my scissor jack and I’m about to cut plywood for platform. Thank you
Very clever thinking, I will be using this method as it's a manual adjustment & virtually foolproof.😃
Question, can you import a design from any program? I use Quark for my designs. Thanks, great vid!
Omg YES!!!!!!!! Stumbled on this by accident 🤣
What kind of printer cord are u using I am getting a usb error So I was told to get a new USB printer cord which I did and it still give me the same error
I really like your drag chain, is there a printable version somewhere?
Please tell me more! This is exactly what I want to do! I have soooo many old used jar lids (both large and small mouth), 'supposedly' not fit for canning anymore, that I wish to recycle for my candle creations. Would you be willing to please point me in a good direction? I bought a Cricut Maker a Christmas time that I haven't unboxed yet, I also have a Dremel hand piece that I've never used it (lol), but hey! I've worked in the field of dentistry for 30 years, so it can't be that difficult, right? I would also love to know, what is that wonderful machine you were demonstrating using? Is it a professional machine? Is it part of that K whisper 4.0 on the computer program you used? Every now & then, I try to look up this stuff, but it hasn't been my main focus, hence all of the novice questions. I am intrigued! I would like to learn more, but I don't know what to search for. At first, I wanted to learn how to 'punch' out patterns on these lids, like Daisy Lids, but I would rather do a my heart logo. I have gathered info here & there, about the difference between .png files & .jpeg files (that's how novice we are talking!), and someone using Adobe Illustrator for editing. Lol, Help! Next, what else can I learn about your preping the lids? The black paint you used: is there a special type of paint (or one that just works better) that you use to engrave on? Like acrylic or enamel, etc.? What about after you engrave the lid, what do you use to seal the paint / engraving, so it doesn't lose it's sharpness? Do you resin the lid or just spray it with a sealer, whether gloss or matte? Next, have you ever done anything to the rings, like also painting them? Thank you in advance for ANY helpful assistance, ideas or creative inspiration! I am really eager to learn about this stuff and I will very much appreciate any help! Respectfully, -Jamie
