Best channel. Just purchased a K40 and people saying you need the same amount of upgrades that you paid for the machine but after watching you channel I just got the square, drag chain, lab jack and the air assist. All the best for your channel.
There is lots of room for improvement, for sure. But, it's easy to go down a rabbit hole with improvements (I'm sure they're all great, though). But the way I see it, it's a cheap laser and I don't want to put a huge amount of energy or money into it. It doesn't have the bells and whistles the pro lasers do, and I'm OK with that. For now, it does everything I want it to do. Someday, when I want it to do more, I'll upgrade the machine.

Brilliant. First video that I have seen about positioning and aligning the pieces. I just bought a used k40 off Ebay, and I was wondering how to centre the jobs, as there is no reference on the table. A simple L shape to the Y-0 X-0 point would have been useful I think

Just the stuff from Lowe’s. They’re 14 cents or something like that. I use white, then spray paint it black. Laser burs off the black paint revealing the whit ceramic tile beneath.
2 questions: how do you adjust the focal height when you don’t have the jack installed in your machine? (Also do you have a video on how you took the bed out to install your jack) Question 2: should I always use a piece of wood with masking tape on it to set my laser item on it to engrave?

It depends on what software you're using. But typically, red is for vector cut, blue is for vector engrave (outlining), and black is for raster engraving. Good luck!

Yes, absolutely. I'll do a video on that in the future. But basically, you change it to black and white, then adjust the contrast until it looks good. K40 Whisperer will adjust the laser for you. For more advanced engraving, you can play with image manipulation and dithering. But that takes a bit of trial and error. But once you get it dialed in, it works great. I also heard LightBurn software does exceptionally well with it.
Yes, but since I'm not using a cut, I'm using it to mark my work area. If I needed a cut, I'd use the blue line to mark my work area. Basically, the blue and red line separate types of cuts, since they're both treated as vectors. Black is treated as a raster.

Nice tip. I have a bed made of expanded steel and just use a sheet of printer paper and run the outline at 3ma to mark/cut the paper
I’ve been using paper lately too. I’ve been using spray adhesive to mount it, though.

Unpredictable performance. Some days the OMTECH CO2 laser works, and other days it refuses to cooperate. Inconsistent and unreliable.
