Sums it up perfectly. In 65 my black drill sergeant treated everyone like sh*t. Weeds out the useless sh*ts. Today's youth are not prepared for any kind of real adversity.
I’m an old Navy veteran (‘64-‘68) but it seems that some of today’s youth are not ready for real life. Great Lakes, as well as the next years of Navy service, taught me what being a grown up was all about.
Army Private to Lieutenant 65-68 here, but you need to change "some" to most. Why? We grew up outside and always heard Dad say, "don't cry or I'll give you something to really cry about." They are sorely unprepared for any kind of adversity, namely combat.

Graduated OCS this summer, so I’m very familiar with the process. He didn’t even make it through onboarding to meet his instructors. Onboarding week is like 90% paperwork and 10% yelling. Would’ve been eaten alive if he made it past a week
Good to know - wasn't sure how OCS differs from PI in 92, but yea. First week was intake platoon, hair cuts, uniforms, etc...then you get turned over to your series and the fun begins for the next 3 months.
Promotion Boards also differ GREATLY by unit. I’ve seen paper boards basically like an interview and I’ve had literal boards where you get blown out by an IP and a wrinkle. Didn’t matter what color skin was under that uniform.
Former Navy Corpsman attached to 2nd Marines... served in combat... my Top was blacker than the ace of spades, but was the best Marine anyone could ever hope to be.
The corps is the only place I’ve ever felt like where no one looked at me for my skin color… besides obvious jokes we all make fun of each other, at the core of it all they looked at me as a Marine first. This guy speaking on the corps but never made it through OCS what a joke.

Not being squared away doesn't make the Corps racist. Expecting special treatment because of his skin color and not getting it doesn't make the Corps racist. It means he's weak. Countless numbers of Marines have been saved because he dropped out of OCS. He's a goddamned hero...
Every Marine I've ever met has been colorblind 100%...they have no patience for useless people. But this former OCS candidate keeps talking about why it _sucks_ but not providing anything that says that it's raisins.
They already had set up who was going to win in advance, and the only reason Jake was let on the show was because they were setting him up to be the villain of that season, the targets were glued down and the weapons for his team consistently malfunctioned, he tried to get up early and sleep deprive/threaten to kill the other contntestants in an attempt to gain an edge, but the lawyers on the show stepped in, and he walked out. This is reality TV, its all scripted to an extent.

My neighbor’s son went to West Point and was also on the football team. After graduation, he had the choice between Navy and Marines, he chose Marines. He is black and served his time owed but reenlisted, but neither he nor his parents ever complained about how he was treated. Maybe his upbringing or football prepared him for life better. Most people research and learn about what they sign up for but boot camp is meant to weed out those who can’t adapt or aren’t able to meet the standards. Three days suggests that he doesn’t want to put in the effort.
Former Black Marine 1978-1981, there is racism in the Marines amongst individuals, but it’s subtle and about you handling your business, if the Marine corp finds out or see the racism you will be dealt with. Sums it up perfectly. In 65 my black drill sergeant treated everyone like sh*t. Weeds out the useless sh*ts. Today's youth are not prepared for any kind of real adversity.
Thomas Sowell is correct

I’m an old Navy veteran (‘64-‘68) but it seems that some of today’s youth are not ready for real life. Great Lakes, as well as the next years of Navy service, taught me what being a grown up was all about.
Army Private to Lieutenant 65-68 here, but you need to change "some" to most. Why? We grew up outside and always heard Dad say, "don't cry or I'll give you something to really cry about." They are sorely unprepared for any kind of adversity, namely combat.
Hats off to this man, him quitting probably saved some Marine's life. There is always a bright side to things.
That cadet wasn't Eagle Globe and Anchor material.
These two goobers don’t have what it takes to be a Marine. It’s not for everyone
Jake was a SEAL, WAY MORE than capable of becoming a Marine 🤣

As a blk man Prior service navy imbedded with a full marine battalion for combat training and instruction this is a JOKE ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC

There is obviously racism out there , but you can’t use that excuse for every situation , sounds like he was expecting special treatment

Quitting is only acceptable in a few cases in life, but not in the Marines. The Marines are far better off with you gone.
The world is a hard place. Deal with it.

The corps is the only place I’ve ever felt like where no one looked at me for my skin color… besides obvious jokes we all make fun of each other, at the core of it all they looked at me as a Marine first. This guy speaking on the corps but never made it through OCS what a joke.

Countless numbers of Marines have been saved because he dropped out of OCS.

🤣
🤣🤣🤣 I knew I'd seen him somewhere
They already had set up who was going to win in advance, and the only reason Jake was let on the show was because they were setting him up to be the villain of that season, the targets were glued down and the weapons for his team consistently malfunctioned, he tried to get up early and sleep deprive/threaten to kill the other contntestants in an attempt to gain an edge, but the lawyers on the show stepped in, and he walked out. THE MARINES HE SERVES ALONGSIDE WITH HAVE THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR HIM AND HE IS VERY WELL LIKED BY THE MEN.. . IN FACT THE MARINE OFFICERS HE SERVES UNDER, WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE SURE HE RECIEVED A NAVY COMMENDATION FOR SAVING A MANS LIFE.. HE HAS EXCELLLED FOR EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE REASON... THERE IS NO BIAS...

Brick, WHY ARE WE YELLING? lol
We had training in the Appalachian mountains on the boarder of Tennessee and North Carolina, me and a Puerto Rican Marine got lost in them hills fetching water from a creek, we ended at a guys house who demanded our weapons we refused, he made some calls and left, his wife called Washington DC who contacted Camp Lejuene who contacted our Captain, he was told to come get us or his ass was grass he sent a truck load of all Black Marines happiest day of my life, because up there we would have been hung.

As a brit, joined JLR at 16, guys left starting day 1. by about the 5/6 day all the mummies boys were so homesick they cried at night, the following day they left too. It was a great time we all did so much to prepare for adult service. Education, Drill, Weapons, Radio, Basic infantry skills/tactics, Fitness & swimming, climbing & abseiling, Assault course, Not forgetting the room and kit inspections, floor polishing which were a nightmare. Started with about 120 guys ended up with about 28-30 at the end.
