    Rotating experienced troops back home to train new guys is CRUCIAL. We did this during WW2 and it’s how you spread battlefield experience around your army quickly. The Japanese kept their most experienced soldiers at the front, believing they were too valuable to be pulled and as a result, the experience those units gained died with them, never passed on to other units or new recruits.

    • @clippy-v4q
      @clippy-v4q 2 місяці тому +98

      This is kind of a myth, in WW2 the US used the infantry replacement system and most regiments and troops did not get rotated out, they stayed at the front until the end of the war. This is why in movies you always see the new guys joining the squad, it was a very wasteful way to use the manpower and cost a lot of lives, especially of veteran troops who had to carry for the newbies lack of experience. Hollywood has a lot to answer for and covered up a lot of the mismanagement of the war.

      @Riceball01 2 місяці тому +44

      @@clippy-v4q Grunts may not have been rotated back to the US on a regular basis but veteran pilots were. It's because the Germans and the Japanese didn't was why they started to run out of out experienced pilots after a while. In some cases, these pilots had years of experience with some Luftwaffe pilots cutting their teeth and getting their first kills in the Spanish Civil War while the same applied to the Japanese pilots who had been flying since the invasion of Chian and other parts of Asia before they attacked Pearl Harbor.
      Even if the US didn't rotate grunts back stateside regularly, it did happen. John Basilone, after winning his Medal of Honor, was shipped back home to go on a war bond tour. After that was done. he was assigned to a training unit to pass on the lesson he learned to new Marines.

Most of the day was water after a morning bowl of cereal. We would have killed for a candy bar and some milk. Scrapes and cuts were routinely ignored until just before infection. The Chinese aid military is a separate thing than the Chinese mercenaries.
    Chinese mercenaries are getting paid by the Russian government or russian recruitment agencies and they get individual contracts, they are usually signed to be in the front line or at least they are perceived as low skilled personnel.
    The Chinese aid military is small in numbers, they are on missions to Russia rather than in a contract, they are getting Russian salaries but through the Chinese government and they are usually highly skilled in specialised sectors. Either tech or maintenance of heavy machinery. The thing is China doesn't want to get too involved since they are profiting through both sides of the conflict and also they don't want to become a target for discrepancy for a war they don't really care all that much.

      Here's the thing though: There are plenty of US vets who signed up for fighting on the Ukrainian side. Guys with actual combat experience, unlike these Chinese guys. What they discovered was that fighting a near-peer force like Russia is completely different from their experience of calling in air strikes on Afghan goat herders. Those guys either ended up becoming a part of the scenic Ukrainian countryside, or crying about it on the internet after deserting. As Mao once said, the US is nothing but a paper tiger.

Soon the machines will be fighting each other, in our names while we watch..... We'll have to make the machines incredibly smart so they can beat each other.
