He didnt and neither have the Chinese. We ended up in Chosin because Macarthur was a f up, got surrounded (Army, brits, ROK and Corps) and they walked out taking on all comers. So the last major conflict the Chinese were in they lost 50000 to US 6000 (dont think that figures ROK or Brits) so they won by losing almost half of their entire force, and we all know that not every person that goes out is infantry, so they probably lost almost every infantryman they sent out. Oil and canvas is hyperbole, however in black and white isnt.
What does the USMC fighting capability have to do with incoming HGVs? These leaders are pushing up against PLARF, which has built concentric rings all the way out to Guam. They've got the coming conflict fully dialed and have been prepped for the past 20yrs.
The problem with many commissioned officers is they are politicians first and war fighters second. Petty politics should not take priority over war fighting capabilities, but they only care about advancing their careers.
THE PROBLEM HERE IS WE AMERICANS ARE OBSESSED WITH GUNS AND OUR MILITARISM IS AN EXTENSION OF OUR LOVE FOR VIOLENCE AT HOME AND ABROAD.. Americans don't know that in China's 5,000-year history, there have been nearly 4,000 wars, an average of one war a year. The last 40 years have been the longest period of peace in China's history. China had the Sun Tzu's Art of War more than 2,000 years ago, and now an American general telling us that there is no culture of war? This American general apparently mistook the fights and shootings on the streets of America as war. 😂
Also Americans don't know that the population of late Han Dynasty was around 50 million of people. From late Han Dynasty until the end of Three Kingdom period was only 60 years. The population dropped from 50 millions to 7 millions, we had almost extincted ourselves for unification. Americans can try to stop China from unification, let's see what will happen. 😂
You realize there are programs in the DoD to recruit foreign nationals, yea? It’s a good thing to have people in the ranks who have native-level proficiency in culture and language. Need to think more deeply about layered defense… we had Iraqis and Afghans in our ranks and it helped tremendously in certain cases. Also, what a great way to attract an adversary and collect their info and their intent. Doesn’t mean they will join the Navy or be a radar tech. Also, the commandant is a service provider-supplies Marines to the GCC. The other is a consumer of troops. One has to be careful w/ what he says, the other has license to promote lethality. How do you not know this?
To brag about more combat experiences and say the other side doesn’t have any is like admitting ,” we are the war mongers, and they are the peaceful ones”🤦
As a Chinese citizen,I think he is telling the facts on that part, American military do have more modern war combat experiences than the PLA,and we are indeed much more peaceful than you.
There was Chinese Comunist regular army soldiers fighting alongside NVA soldiers in vietnam . It surprised me he didn't know that as well. It's well documented.
Not to mention they were fighting the Japanese for years before world War 2 officially even broke out. And over 200000 Chinese fought along side North Korea during that conflict as well, just after a grueling and devastating Civil War. This is all simple and available information. These people don't know what they are talking about.
Why should we go to war with anyone? Being an empire is not what the founders envisioned or sought-after. They fought against the empire of their day ffs.

Interesting. China's last war was captured in oil and canvas, during Korean war. So, can we say China are not warmonger? US last war was capture on an iPhone, can we can US is warmonger. Since, China''s army is inexperience, there is nothing to worry about. Why then send an army over? Money could be better spend else where.
…last time the US and China fought they agreed to freeze the conflict on the 38th parallel. That war wasn’t won by China, but neither was it won by the US of A. When was the last time the US of A fought a (near) peer? To add another argument, if China is supposed to be the dangerous destabilizing factor, how does its limited military experience translate to conflicts, does it not indicate that China seems to be more peaceful than the US of A if we compare the number of wars and conflicts, especially the recent ones the General is bragging about? The general is probably too honest in admitting there are US boots on the ground in Taiwan, the Admiral is political / diplomatic.

The longer I’m in the military, the more concern I’ve become. 17 years. We went from talking about being the strongest, baddest force in the world, to talking about how we need to care about everyone’s “identity” more. Commanders at unit level can’t make sense of things. Dealing with the demands of flying programs, a force who is apathetic, couple with legacy aircraft and limited sustainability…not to mention a focus on diversity, the killer of unity. We gotta come home, and we gotta get back to the basics!
The issues have never been about our troops, training, equipment, etc. Our problems always begin and end with the leadership; ROE, service rivalry politics, etc.
that officer forgot that China owns more than $859.4 billion in U.S. debt and if it is willing to lose money to win a war don't forget how the great depression started
my point is if China demands the immediate payment of US debt by selling it on the open market what happens best case for the USA is higher interest rates economic slowdown fear and confusion in the US populace and the worst more debt owners decide to do it due to the actions of US politicians America is not the most loved nation in the world all of this is speculation and by the grace of god may we never find out

“Military Leaders” these days are bureaucrats and not warriors. Seeking next promotion(s) and trying to look and sound good. Pushing DEI instead of pushing for improved lethality and remembering and learning lessons from past conflicts/wars. Plus over reliance on China gives us zero leverage. US politicians and business have made deal with the devil and the devil wants to get paid.
“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.”
The German military in 1939 was not composed of large numbers of combat vets at the fighting unit level. Same for US Army and Air Force in Desert Storm. Armies that lost in particular, and went into a long period of self assessment and systematic redevelopment in a strategic lull have emerged to upend the history of warfare. Military professionals of yesteryear, steeped in history and theory of the profession of arms, knew that nations create the most effective combat organizations during periods of peace when you can modernize, experiment, train and develop without the pressing issues of a current fight. Combat vets get very skilled at the fight they are currently in but over time organizations lose effectiveness for the next fight if engaged in persistent combat. There's the whole organizational dynamic where you learn bad habits and generally apply all the wrong lessons in the next war. These are the kind of historic strategic lessons four star generals should consider rather than bleating empty repetitive slogans about oil and canvas.
The Marines that were sent to Taiwan were small boat tactics instructors. There is a big difference between sending an augmentation force and a dozen instructors.
Last time we "won" 1945. Last time congress declared war was 1941. Somehow we never conquered opponents since the 1947 act unless you count Grenada or Desert Storm where we limited our actions until we went back.
who agrees we should get our asses home and or "Dug in" where we have real vested interest.. but ya.. GET HOME and focus on the AMERICAS. give china whats chinese.. n give the russians what they already took.
Underestimate the enemy at your own peril. China's not without experience, their last wars were the Korean and Vietnam wars fought against the US and allies. The Korean war ended in stalemate with no clear winner, and some would argue the US lost in Vietnam.
No clear winner? ? On June 25, 1950, China warned the United States for the first time not to cross the 38th Parallel in North Korea. On October 19, 1950, the Chinese Volunteer Army entered the Korean battlefield. On July 27, 1953, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed with the 38th Parallel as the boundary. So in the Korean War, did the Chinese achieve their initial goal, or did the Americans achieve their goal of annihilating North Korea? ? Although the Chinese did not send troops to participate in the Vietnam War, hundreds of Chinese professional soldiers joined the North Vietnamese army as advisors, so who unified Vietnam in the end? ?
The U.S. military and its European allies seem alarmingly out of touch with the current global reality. It appears they fail to realize how their tactics and technology, revealed in conflicts like those in Iraq, Afghanistan, and now against the Houthis, have provided future adversaries with valuable insights on how to counter them.

So starting a war with a country that have nukes, smart move bojo..

Oh boy the military brass is all screwed up like the non combat experienced brass we had in Vietnam!
The U.S. military and its European allies seem alarmingly out of touch with the current global reality. It appears they fail to realize how their tactics and technology, revealed in conflicts like those in Iraq, Afghanistan, and now against the Houthis, have provided future adversaries with valuable insights on how to counter them.
