Just completed the CP3 conversion on 8/10/23 Inspected the pump regulator and fortunately there was no metal contamination. Also per Fleeces recommendations I replaced the left hand fuel rail regulator and the entire injector return line system, Will say I did have some challenging moments during this project but it all worked out in the end. Even though I installed an Airdog lift pump a year ago and the instructions provided a way to remove the factory fuel filter I opted to keep the factory filter for more filtration. Truck started right up after 2 hand primes with the factory filter primer. I immediately took it out for a short test drive and it ran perfect. After making sure the coolant was topped of I to it back out for another run. After getting back home I connected the scanner and no codes popped up. Put DPF into forced regen which took about 40min. The next day I hooked up my 34ft. 5th Wheel and took it on a 10 mile drive with the scanner connected and it ran good and no codes. I just purchased the latest CP3 Fleece kit for my 2016 LML in July 2023. They made a major change in how the dosing lines connect. It now has two flex lines that run from a special banjo bolt on the top of the pump that connects to what they call a cascade block. Also the temp. sensor in mounted into the cascade block that will allow it to function. Also in the instructions when done it states to do a forced regen which I don't see where that was mentioned in the older kits. I bought a scan tool just for the regen. I am actually in the middle of doing the install, the only thing that i have noticed that is different, the kit i ordered through you guys, and my CP3 didn't come with that dosing line coming off of it like yours does in the video when you are swapping everything over from the CP4 to the CP3, so I am a little confused on what I should do about that, other than that, awesome video!
Great video . What I find odd is the fact that GM knew there where problems with the CP4 clear back to around 2013 on those LML's but yet continued to use them instead of changing back to CP3's or redesigning one to put out the proper fuel pressure that the system was designed for with improved build quality and durability . The one your fixing is a 2016 model ,,, so all that time later and they never even tried to improve that problem . It seems to me that they didn't have the customer in mind too much on that , as that can be a very expensive repair for a customer if that CP4 fails and spreads metal shavings all through the fuel system . I think that that's pretty shitty on their part . I own a 2013 LML 6.6 V8 Turbo Duramax 3500HD Crew Cab , and I'm seriously considering swapping to CP3 on mine for preventative maintenance . Currently sitting at 90.000 miles on it right now . Thanks for the video . Nicely done !
Coincidence...... my 2013 LML is sitting at 89,XXX miles, in my shop getting ready to start the CP3 conversion tomorrow. I'm done rolling the dice on the CP4!
Highly recommend cp3 conversion asap! DO NOT WAIT!. I'm at 89,000 and decided to order my conversion kit as preventivemeasures. And guess what went out a day before the kit arrived. $1500 turned into roughly $7000 in just parts.
So the nut is not flush with the new CP3 pump. I used a ittle loctite to ensure gear doesnt slip. I know on cummins isx engine is standard procedure on none keyway tappered shafts. what your not explaining is the injector return plug that comes with the kit. Or u can explain the procedure to eliminate the stock fuel filter if you want to install a Air dog sys,
Yes the nut does not flush up completely but of the thousands of these we have sold, we haven’t had one come apart. With this truck, the plug is not used. And we explain in this video which line to use with a aftermarket lift pump that will eliminate the stock fuel filter housing.
I have a 2016 LML and lost the CP4 at 86,400 miles. GM did warranty the repairs but I'm wondering if they just replaced it like and kind and wanted to know if this bound to happen to me again? I have 134,000 miles currently and it's all still stock (including the GMC CP4 repair)
My install is coming along, but the balance line wants to rub the back of the CP3. The holes are lining up. In the video it looks like there is a line support on the back of the CP3, but there is no place to bolt one on mine. Any ideas or suggestions? I dealt with the "devil bolt" by going to the hardware store and buying one a 1/4 inch shorter. Much easier to get back in and more than enough to hold what it needs to.
Thank you for this video, I’m about 1/4 way through and this is very informative. My question is I have a 2011 LML with code P140A . EGR bypass valve . Do you guys have a Video on performing this repair as well ? Looks like your right there doing this conversion. Really appreciate your help. Thanks, Heeb
We do not, however if you look at your valve the replacement is pretty straight forward. If you are going to attack this repair on your own, we suggest getting a Alldata or equivalent subscription on your truck so that you will have access to the proper diagnostic, repair procedure, and torque values.
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Much appreciated. I am a Technician at Mercedes Benz, so I do this stuff all day and do have access to Mitchell. Just have not done any work on Dmax . Which dash monitor will show the fuel valve propotion so i can check if my lml i just got with 180k on it doesnt blow up. I learned that if the valve is showing over 30 percent open its time for a new cp pump
Why does the return line of the high pressure rail feed into the supply line of the pump? Shouldn't that return line go back to the tank to be filtered?
I’m half way threw your video. Since I am taking some parts off, what parts do you recommend I go ahead and change for performance? Any pipes or tubes? I don’t know much about diesels. 2014 duramax. EFI live tuned.

First of all great in depth video. I purchased a 2016 lol and was told that a cp3 was installed. Is there a way to visually verify that it was in fact installed without having to move all of that out of the way?
You should be able to see to the top of the pump. If there is a fuel metering unit on the top (electrical unit) that you see right away, its probably a CP4. If you have questions send us pictures and we can help.
Have my entire engine apart doing this. Was stupid and didn’t organize my bolts so I’ve got a large pile of bolts. Is there anyway at all you can help me find out what goes where
Have a 2016 lml that had the cp4 fail. Had a shop put on the cp3 conversion and a disaster kit. Unfortunately still having problems with starting. The shop went through it and found no problems. As soon as i drove it home which was a 10 minute drive. It did not start again and had to use starting fluid. Any ideas?
I would suspect a problem with the collection return from the injectors, or the possibly the tank wasn’t cleaned post failure and unfortunately you could have had more metal introduced into the system.
Can you do a conversion video for the CP3 on a Jeep Wrangler?? Would love to see how it works on the Jeep that way I know what to expect when my Jeep is out of the warranty :D
Great video. Once this is in and let’s say you have a Duramaxtuner tune already how much HP can this 50 state legal CP3 pump be tuned to? What Do you recommend as far as upgrading to one of there turbos ( stealth 64 or 67) Mainly use my rig to tow our 5th wheel. About 14 k . But do like to rip it now and then as well . All emissions intact CA . Thank you
I'm about to dive into my CP3 conversion. If my EGR cooler is already removed, is there any reason to remove the alternator, or alternator bracket like I've seen in other videos?
@Thoroughbred Diesel thanks. I did remove it, just a few extra minutes was worth it. For others attempting this project....remove the alternator, upper radiator hose, intercooler pipe. Don't bother with the fan, it's not in the way at all. Not sure why instructions say to remove the fan, I didn't.
I now see why people are giving up on Diesel engines That reminds me of dismantling an entire house to change a light bulb. Can today’s engineering be any worse than this? Absolutely unbelievable.
@@Vickvineager Cummins lobbyists, for example lobbied to mandate new legislation based on their DEF fluid system. They were attempting to stack the deck to make it impossible for the other Diesel engine manufacturers to meet stricter emissions standards where they’d either have to adopt the the same DEF system or figure out a way to work around the Cummins patents on such a system to meet the standards. This isn’t a liberal or political party thing whatsoever. As a matter of fact, it’s often the GOP that makes more provisions to corporate lobbyists on such matters. There’s a lot more examples of this type of lobbyists and corporate shenanigans that’s been going on for decades concerning what we then see the EPA enforce. How about that!
@@Vickvineager And if ones interested, it’s public to see what automotive and engine manufacturers spend on lobbyists alongside a short description of the topic of interest for various things. Remember when the guy who invented the Stop Saw table saw break was lobbying to attempt to force all table saw manufacturers to be mandated to use his patented invention on their future saws? Seatbelts being installed and mandatory in every modern car was similar but successfully lobbied thing back in the day. It could be argued either way for the ‘good’ in lobbying such things like all this. Considering myself a novice with Diesel engines, I enjoyed watching the install. Excellent work. Enthusiast was a good term to use and I agree. What would you say the maximum horsepower rating is on this conversion, before needing a lift pump?
Tuning “quality” is a very large part of what HP a stock CP3 can handle. We have seen trucks make 400HP with little pull on the rail pressure without lift pump.
My LML is built for Off Road, therefore it is EGR Deleted with New Down pipe which deleted my "Dulcer" Line?? I think thats what you calling it? So where the Dulcer? Line attached to the top of the block it is just plugged off on mine. Since the CP3 comes with that Dulcer line attached does that have to be reattached or how do I handle that? I dont have the banjo washer anymore or the dulcer line that I remove from the Down pipe to the top of the block.. I have a plug where it attached to the Injector? I am asking before I have watched the full installation so maybe you address that later in your video.. if so, NEVERMIND.. lol Great video so far.. With mine being deleted it will be a lot easier than the guys working on factory assy's. Thanks for the video.
I did a turbo rebuild on my 2011 LML which if anybody has ever done that, the is another bolt at the base of the Turbo that Satan also located. That was a very daunting R&R but I just walked away from it and kept my patience and finally was able to finish the task.. was very rewarding completing that rebuild. New up pipes as well.. a lot of scratched knuckles and sore fingers when I got done but was worth it.. I feel if I can do that, this CP3 will be fairly easy.. Just need to know how to get around that Dulcing? line that he keep refering to. I capped mine off per the Delete instructions for the new Down pipe.
I would hope somebody changes it before it goes there. One of my subscribers had that cost him more than 10 grand. If you have a duramax 2011-2016 might want to look into doing the upgrade.

Thank you and thanks you your insight.
@Mike Garcia that sucks! I finished mine a couple days ago. 18 hours from start to finish, taking my time and being extremely thorough!
Invaluable information. I now feel that I can make this conversion. Thank you.
This looks like so much fun. 🎉🎉
Just did a conversion on my 2011 and it won't run. Here to see if I can figure out why.

I’ve watched other videos that put the fuel temp sensor in the cp3 pump . Why didn’t you put it in the pump.
There is no location for fuel temp on the CP3 on this particular kit.
How long does a cp4 last? I have 130.000 on it now i want to put the cp3 in. I have a 2015 Duramax
excellent job, one question! How much is the labor cost for that job?
You'll need to contact a local mechanic.
I most definitely cannot do this. I need someone in or near Bakersfield California to do this for me. HELP!!!
Thanks,
Heeb
We do not, however if you look at your valve the replacement is pretty straight forward. If you are going to attack this repair on your own, we suggest getting a Alldata or equivalent subscription on your truck so that you will have access to the proper diagnostic, repair procedure, and torque values.
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Much appreciated. I am a Technician at Mercedes Benz, so I do this stuff all day and do have access to Mitchell. Just have not done any work on Dmax . I just here that the bypass job is like 10 Hrs? I would assume doing. The conversation and the bypass at the same time would be a good time to upgrade the turbo as well. I currently tuned by Duramaxtuner all emissions intact. I was thinking S&S pump though . Would this pump be able to be tuned more then my current CP4 pump? I know the pressure will be lower but I guess the CP3 flows more . Thanks for all your information. Sorry for the lengthy reply.

Which dash monitor will show the fuel valve propotion so i can check if my lml i just got with 180k on it doesnt blow up. I learned that if the valve is showing over 30 percent open its time for a new cp pump
Are talking about FCA duty cycle?
Why does the return line of the high pressure rail feed into the supply line of the pump? Shouldn't that return line go back to the tank to be filtered?
There aren’t any returns feeding high side?
What type of topside creeper did you use on top?
It’s a cheap Chinese one but it gets the job done.
Hey the pump I have doesn’t have a dosing line coming off of the pump, what do I do with the line that connects to the dosing line?
You have received the wrong kit for your application.
I’m half way threw your video. Since I am taking some parts off, what parts do you recommend I go ahead and change for performance? Any pipes or tubes? I don’t know much about diesels. 2014 duramax. EFI live tuned.
How have the Denso Pumps held up on the L5P’s?
So far so good! But like anything, they don’t like bad fuel.
35:50 So.... you're saying I can't do this job with a Menards DeWalt socket set and a couple of combination wrenches?
Just messing... Thanks for the vid! HUGE help.
How much more difficult would it be to do this on a 6.6 in an express van? Looking to purchase a 2011.
About the same amount of time.

@@thoroughbreddiesel you think maybe sucking air? Supply to pump leak with no lift pump?
Very good video. Thank you very much.
Glad you liked it!
Wish it could be as simple as saying that this would also work for a 2020 model year 6.7 Cummins...

When working with that line, I think its much easier with the alternator out of the way.
I now see why people are giving up on Diesel engines
That reminds me of dismantling an entire house to change a light bulb.
Can today’s engineering be any worse than this?
Absolutely unbelievable.
You can thank the epa, dep & liberals for all this useless junk on modern diesels these days.
I’m not trying to get into that but simply just attempting to spread awareness that there’s often more than meets the eye with such things like epa regulations or legislation be it from any particular political party or government agency.
@@audimaster5000 you would have to provide proof that corporate lobbyist lobbied for tougher EPA standards.
Where can this information be found, I would love to research this!

Any not mechanical diesel is gonna be complex especially V8s, diesel is just a different animal, that CP3 pump alone is a couple grand

Are there Torque specs with this kit
Yes sir, all specs come with the kit instructions.
That’s hilarious!!!
“The devil himself installed that bolt”, so “hey Adam, I want you to come over here so I can show them what he did!” 😅😂
Was the same guy that put the water pump bolt behind the harmonic balancer
Pump gear nut should have a lock washer and be torqued to 85 foot pounds
Not on the lml
Considering myself a novice with Diesel engines, I enjoyed watching the install. Excellent work. Enthusiast was a good term to use and I agree. What would you say the maximum horsepower rating is on this conversion, before needing a lift pump?
Tuning “quality” is a very large part of what HP a stock CP3 can handle. We have seen trucks make 400HP with little pull on the rail pressure without lift pump.
So the 2008 Duramax LMM has a CP3 pump?
It was produced with a CP3 pump, yes. 01-10 Dmax had CP3, 11-17 had CP4’s, and 17.5-Current are HP4 pumps.
Dosing line which is the line running to the 9th injector. This is an emissions compliant kit that retains the 9th injector.
@@thoroughbreddiesel So is there a plug for the CP3 so you can delete that line on the Pump or is that special order?
About how long did it take you to do the kit like start to finish
And remember where that safe place is....because you can't find that banjo bolt anywhere!!!!
Just get a disaster prevention kit, the cp4.2 on the 6.7 ford seems alot easier to access then this duramax engine
What parts can I skip removing if I babe deleted all EGR components? And do I need to drain the coolant?
We can't answer this question.
Question . Why can’t you convert to the denzo pump in the l5p?
Tuning, gearing and line conversions would be necessary. No one has tackled the conversion yet.
why do you need to put a cp3 on a 2016, they have the upgraded cp4 2.0
Do you have a video on catastrophic fail 2015 duramax
I would hope somebody changes it before it goes there. One of my subscribers had that cost him more than 10 grand. If you have a duramax 2011-2016 might want to look into doing the upgrade.

Wat year truck is this video done on? And how much is this kit?
2$k apx cost for this repair?
You'll need to call your local mechanic.
Why did all the manufacturers drop cp3 to the 4? So many problems with the 4 why would they drop something that works?
Most of them were for Race applications. That’s why this particular kit is kinda of a big deal.
We can thank emissions nonsense for the birth of the CP4...
Cp4 more easily supports emissions standards to include a 9th injector for the DPF
If my duramax is already tuned and deleted do I buy the non emissions compliant cp3 and how do I go about calibrating it like it says on the website
You have to get updated tune revisions from where you got your tunes
So when installing the timing gear on the cp3 the nut doesn't seat down level?
If they blow up why don't GM recall it
Not sure why.
Avaliable for ford at all ?
awesome video. I was going to look at an 11 lml sometime this week, but this changed my mind.

It seems every truck manufacturer used that CP4 all the way up to 2018 . Just seems no way around it unless you want to go with gas .
FYI there is a fix for the duramax. But the FORD... Nope. pump wont fit. Duramax is the best option IMO. Just do the job one time and your good for many miles. I hear same pump on dodge too cp4. gotta change it no matter what you buy unless you go earlier than 2011 or later than 2016. and on the ford.... Just would not go there myself.
