I'll add another tip, when changing fuel filter(s) do not skip the step to force the liftpump to run purging air from the newly installed filter(s). Even a momentary loss of fuel feed can initiate damage to the CP4. The CP3, obviously, is more tolerant of momentary loss of fuel and I believe that a number of CP4 failures are due to owners or service personnel not being familiar with the fragility of the CP4.

@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE Checked with our mechanic and you are absolutely correct he did the CP4.2 with a disaster kit. Sorry for that misinformation. I have CP# on tha brain cuz we were in the middle of doing a dual fueler kit on my toy LB7. The CP4.2 came on the 2015 and later trucks and we only had problems with the 13-14's Whats left of the 15-16 fleet is between 250K and 350K miles, other problems were the charge air coolers, DPF meltdowns due to too much injector cleaner w/ CP4 lube, ac blower motors, and random radiator leaks at the cores. Once deleted we had no problems.
I had an F350, two CP4 pumps failed within 10k miles apart. Cost me over $24k for both. I believe the first shop didn’t clean out all the metal shavings completely. There was nothing I could do about it. The shop fought me, Ford refused any liability. I used clean fuel ALWAYS. Screw Ford. I bought a 2020Ram with the CP3 conversion already performed.

Isn't the cp4.2 the 2 piston model and the cp4.1 was the single piston model? I have a jetta with the cp4.1 which is a single piston version and my duramax and my wifes q7 tdi both have the cp4.2 which are 2 piston cp4's. Everything im reading is confirming this and the cp4.2 is not an updated version
On the Ford 6.7 ,6.6 LML and 6.7 cummins cp4 and cp4.2 are all dual piston pumps sir. I’ve personally never heard of the cp4.1 just cp4 . I’ve only worked on the light duty diesel so anything is possible!
This hardly seems bulletproof. You have 4 filters before the fuel pump (overkill) and nothing after the pump to save the fuel high pressure fuel system when the new improved CP4 fails.
What would you have installed then sir? We’ve never had a single failure in over 10 years of doing this installation . If the system fails we aren’t saving anything. It all has to be replaced. Cp4 usually fail because of (Air) , (Gas ) , (water) or trash entering the system.
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE A lot of people have said that their fuel was perfectly fine but the manufacturer claims a fuel problem so they don't have to cover the cost of repairs. There are two types of kit I am aware of to save the fuel rail and injectors should the pump fail. One is a fuel metering valve with a greatly improved filter on it, made by Exergy for $240. The other is a fuel reroute kit that sends all fuel that went through the pump that could be contaminated with shrapnel back to the the tank and only uncontaminated fuel to the rail and injectors, this is the "Disaster prevention kit" others have asked about below, they are about $350. Both are pretty easy installs.
@@brantrichardson1949 So here is my 2 cents... we do everything pre Cp4 to prevent the failure not at the pump (because again when it fails it fails entirely). I’ll put it to you as we would a client “if you have the disaster kit install” and it works correctly and send everything back to the tank (are you ok with me fixing everything in the low pressure side and pay for it only to find out you now owe me again for a entire fuel system because your truck upon the start up failed because the metal did actually make it in the injectors , rails and return lines. This is only my opinion but it has have happened to me. When it fails it all gets replaced we try to take ever measure Pre Cp4 to keep it alive .
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE I would advocate for a filter in the return line to the tank as well to save all those repairs, I thought that was part of the set up in your video actually. In the event of catastrophic failure the only thing that needs to be replaced is the fuel pump and filters. With a modification to save the high pressure side and another to save the lower pressure side, yes I would rather take a chance on paying you to fix it twice rather than the enormous cost of replacing the entire fuel system straight away. That would be my idea of bulletproofing a system using a CP4 pump, not really bullet proofing the pump itself but stopping all the collateral damage.
@@brantrichardson1949 if you ever get a chance to experiment with that more power to you but with adding filters in the return lines doesn’t work for the pumps they don’t like resistance. But again We appreciate and respect your opinion thank you for the feedback sir.
People don’t know the difference between the CP4 and CP4.2 because of a diesel magazine saying the .2 means two cylinders and that the CP4 has 1 cylinder and is made in Europe.
So i just bought a 2011 f250 6.7 . An ive heard of metal getting to the engine thro the fuel system siezing it up. So whats my best option so i have no worries????

This still doesn’t seem like a “bullet proof” system! Your cleaning and filtering everything going to the pump 4 times yet the pump still has every chance of failing due to the fact its still a cp4 modified cp4.2 pump. It could still fail and take everything out once again! Wouldn’t it be best to dump the Cp4.2 and put in a cp3 conversion to make it “bulletproof”! I’m not a mechanic just observing cause I’m trying to fix the same shit I got on my truck right now. Help us all understand wtf Ford Chevy and Dodge would still use this shit on anything up and coming. I do like the cleanliness of your install but I’m looking for a system that truly would be fail safe as we all know there’s no such thing as “ bulletproof”.
@@madsnag97 You are correct but they don’t make a Cp3 swap unfortunately. So until a couple things one a Cp4 does not have guides for the roller lifters , second they have roller lifters a solid tapper would be more robust. Filtering is one thing we stress but removing the air with 2 pumps does it’s part in helping the Cp4 stay alive by not having air aided fuel that can cause a lifter you spin or Turn in the bore also lack of lubrication continuous ! EPA / emission is the reason for the Cp4 or any new pump because the higher injection pressure means cleaner burn. 29k or 30k Or pressure makes a much cleaner burn then 25k ! Hope this helps some sir !
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE okay so I have a Fass 165 on there now. I left my stock fuel filter in place and I have the DPF crap gone. Ram switched over to a CP 4 in 2019. I just bought a 2020 Ram with a CP4.2: which was changed over about mid year by Ram due to fuel system failures in the 2019 and Early 2020 Rams with a CP 4 . So with all the fuel system failures in Ford and Duramax with the CP4., and much prior to 2019, how could Cummins even let Ram install these on the 2019 Ram engines in all good consciousness. Ram and Cummins should be responsible for replacing and upgrading all 2019 and 2020 models back to a CP3 pump, like they have already done for the 2021 models! Ram And Cummins Really!
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE I just sold my 2019 and 2015 and bought a 2016 f350 and I'm thinking about installing a preventative system like this as I'm going to be traveling for the next 3 years. Which one makes more sense and about how much will it cost with install
Personally sir we have never tired. I know they will start but we’ve not done long term testing . In theory you shouldn’t have a issue the pump is more capable and will deliver more volume.
Cp4 is stock. If you still have the sellers number call and ask them if the pump, injectors and fuel rails were replaced. Im sure if they were the seller would of mentioned it
This guy said, "the new ones use the CP4.2". Fucks sake. All CP4s on Powerstrokes are CP4.2s. The .2 designates the 2 piston design of the pump - which they all are. Now, they did produce a symmetrical and an asymmetrical version of the 4.2. Blaring sign to not take your truck to this shithole.
So i read description on the site pertaining to the sump and FASS, if i wanted to try and have the most bullet proof fuel system for reliability and performance you would suggest what? In my head im thinking Sump FASS H&S lower filter upgraded Synergy mprop filter upgrade Blackmarket performance upper filter upgraded SPE OR S&S disaster prevention kit With a cocktail of fuel additives to help ensure the pump is lubricated, hell i would go ahead and do a stroker pump since its all getting redone any way. @@htownsfinest87 I would 100% agree with anyone on emission friendly tuning ( Calibrated Power Solutions ) offers solid support ! We are high performance so you know where we fail on the fence . 2ndly on the fuel system. The Factory system works extremely well if it’s my truck it would be a Fass and S&S system more so of the pump is getting a cleaner “less air “ and a straight shot of fuel from the bypass. I really don’t sell them on it prevents I sell them on it delivers fuel to the pistons and cam at the same time . So we see a little power gain out of it. Hopefully this helped some !
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE yes thats who i am going to go with, black friday pricing is to thank for that, hoping they come out with a stealth kit soon or go with another drop in, guess my final question is what would you, if you can about what a 20+ powerstroke could make power wise with emissions on tuning, more air and fuel. From what I've read the beefed up trans and motor could handle quite a bit. Watched your 600 whp cummins video and i guess im in the same mind set of full send and see what it can take.

Yes sir 2015 was the first year for the Cp4.2 and absolutely anything or kit that can better filter the fuel I’m a go for! The biggest thing to remember is when your filters are being change make for sure the pump has been cycled up to 10 times to make sure the air is out of the system!
Would it be cheaper in the long run to just replace the cp4 pump every 100-150k miles if your doing everything to keep it healthy, so there would be way less of a chance of one ever failing in the first place?
So i’m looking at purchasing a LML Duramax, what are the first mods (fuel related) to keep from having a fuel system failure? I want to makes the changes/upgrades before having any failure (I work out of town a LOT)
Hope you didn't buy an LML, I think they are junk. Ours has had fuel issues constantly and now appears it is going to have to get a CP3 installed to remedy the issues. Still haven't found the air leak that is in the fuel system. Just be cautious. Ours only has 155,000 miles.
Personally we do not only because of this “if it fails and there is metal in the system we replace it on to make sure it’s gonna leave the shop and stay up and running .”
Not sure what this guy is talking about. There are two types of CP4 pumps. A CP4.1 (meaning 1 piston) and a CP4.2 (meaning 2 pistons). All 6.7 powerstrokes came with CP4.2 injection pumps. So yeah it will bolt right in, cause it's the same exact thing.
Sir you may want to Google what you just stated , all 11-14 came with a Cp4 and all 15 plus came with a Cp4.2. Both have 2 pistons. They are not the same exact thing. The sensor is plugged in.

CP4.2 has come on Duramax 2011 to 2016, Powerstrokes since 2011 and Dodge since 2019. They may have made some minor improvements to make it flow slightly more by that doesn't change the type of injection pump, it is still and always has been a CP4.2. Sir, we always replace the tank . Plastic has pores , metal sticks in the pores and in turn gets back to a injector and can stick a injector open causing a potential run away. This truck was lifted 8” with 37s any time a client wants added power we do a sump . But if a client asked we can do a top mount “draw straw”. Running the 1/2 fuel lines from the top if not installed correctly will and can pinch between the frame and tank causing a premature hose failure . Thank you

So great question and this truck did have a disaster, we left it out of the video because of potential conflict. Here is the insight , this truck did not “blow up the Cp4” there was metal “some” in the VCV and some in the tank as there should be. We did take apart the pump I wanted to see the internals. The lifters , plungers and cam were not damaged by visual appearance. So my opinion is this say the pump is good , fuel pressure is regulated by the FPR if metal got to then the bypass failed. Again this is possibilities , another “ if “ is if metal reached the fuel injector and the Pintle reached metal during on time it would cause low or no rail pressure. So the kit would have failed. These again are possible cases and a customer would have to send everything in to get tested to know EXACTLY where metal reach . I have never and will never install one of these kits . It’s just a opinion sir.

Why would anyone purchase a Diesel engine with a CP4 in the first place? 10 minutes on Google is enough to educate yourself about these pumps. They are going to fail no matter the fuel, filters, disaster prevention kits, etc. The aftermarket might protect the rest of the fuel system but the pump will fail. The roller cam follower will turn 90 degrees and start digging metal. Guess what the CP4.2 will do the same damn thing, admit it or not. At least the LML can be retrofitted with a reliable CP3.
The CP4 is a shit piece of engineering. Each of those pressure plungers are roller equipped at the cam interface ....think roller cam. They are NOT keyed in any way to keep the whole unit from rotating in the bores. Once that happens nothing is "rolling" and metal starts being made with the roller 90° to the cam face. The roller attachment to the piston is nothing to write home about, either. Unless or until the pistons are designed to be non-rotable....oval, triangular, whatever....the possibility of roller/piston/cam misalignment is always present. I've seen several with the roller reduced to a huge flat spot on the cam facing side.

The CP4.2 came on the 2015 and later trucks and we only had problems with the 13-14's
Whats left of the 15-16 fleet is between 250K and 350K miles, other problems were the charge air coolers, DPF meltdowns due to too much injector cleaner w/ CP4 lube, ac blower motors, and random radiator leaks at the cores. Once deleted we had no problems.

What causes the metal in the fuel? Lack of lubricity in the fuel?
That is part of it but the cam in the Cp4 eats into the lifter causing metal on metal contact !
I missed the bullet proofing part..... All I saw was adding a bunch of shit and told to buy a CP4.2
Thanks for watching !
I have a new diesel Jeep wrangler Rubicon. It has the CP4.2 in it
I would like to know if I should buy the (Disaster Prevention Kit) or wait until they make a CP3 for the Jeep wrangler diesels?? :/
Thank you for the video. Nice clean install
I would go ahead and jump a kit ! Main reason would be because of the immediate fuel it receives from the kit , separating the fuel flow!
SO these things grenade in all vehicles not just BMW. ive been told running some lubricating additives help. Any thoughts?
Anything that will increase the sulfur contents will help “ sulfur is a lubricant “ !

@@madsnag97 You are correct but they don’t make a Cp3 swap unfortunately. It’s the new one sir on the 15 to current they use the Cp4.2

Synergy mprop filter upgrade
Blackmarket performance upper filter upgraded

Not sure what this guy is talking about. There are two types of CP4 pumps. A CP4.1 (meaning 1 piston) and a CP4.2 (meaning 2 pistons). All 6.7 powerstrokes came with CP4.2 injection pumps. So yeah it will bolt right in, cause it's the same exact thing.

@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE I did "research it". Why don't you provide us all a link that says 2011-2014 have a CP4 and that the 2015-present has a CP4.2. Many people use CP4 as a generic term but like I said in my previous comment CP4 is just a family of pumps. CP4.1 comes on small diesel engines and has 1 piston.
