Chris, watching from Whidbey Island , Washington. 14 days to go before the opener up here. Stoked!! Love your channel and all the Bay Area crew. Wishing all of you a great season!!!!
Hey Chris, the fish in question is what us okd timers called Hake. I didn't look close but I heard there was a ton out there along with Silver's. And BTW, on Thursday, the fish biologist was at Bodega, said there was a mess of people keeping silvers unknowingly. Mr. F&G was issuing $900 citations.
Dude I kept all the black cod I caught , keep them cold or the will melt , taste better then salmon to me There was a commercial boat at spud point unloading live black cod to be shipped to sf top $$$ fine dining.
It was a good morning out there, tons of bait fish and whales. We had similar issues with the cod fish and cohos until we went a bit north for the kings!
Good to see those Cohos out there in good numbers , I got a buddy Who commercial fishes for those black cod but I’ve never seen them out in bodega but good job on the salmon fishing I went out to Stinson on the 26th and we just got five shakers
Chris you gotta sick boat and the underwater footage is cool AF! I live in Santa Rosa, can drive a boat, and ALWAYS pay for the gas, bait, ect. AND can back a trailer and don't leave before the boat's clean dude... I've also NEVER caught a Halibut before...
Been fishing bodega for 25 years and have never caught a sable out there. I did catch what would have been a state record jack mackerel when trolling for salmon though. Weighed it and filleted it lol.
Is there a small light on your underwater cameras? Sablefish usually live in really deep water and feed on critters that have a bio luminescense. that's why they were so attracted to it.
dumb question, when using underwater camera trolling do you need to worry about the weight of the camera. Like if I was top lining for say Rainbow trout and not using a downrigger how far would the line drop with the weight of the camera.
in my opinion it should be illegal to throw back legal size salmon. The mortality rate of released salmon is high. Boats catching keepers and releasing them to try and upgrade are hurting the fishery much more then someone keeping the smaller size "legal" catch.
Got on your channel because of outdoor chef life and a fisherman life
Thank you for checking my channel out!
Dudes, nice video. I grew up fishing Bodega Bay and Nor Cal.
I fish Westport Wa and Puget Sound now.
Reel life
Just found your channel. You have become one of my favorites
Not sure if it was legal for you to keep in CA but blackcod is delish!
Good catch brother keep it up. Quick question do you think a Bayliner 2050 would make it to go fish pass Golden gate?
Good videos bro wow I wish I can go for a salmon fishing 🎣 hey how deep are they when you fishing or how deep you let go your line

Not sure if you can keep those black cod but they are some of the best smoked fish on the planet.

Oh Chris, you just drop a real good eating fish. That first fish is a juvenile sablefish. Great eating and legal to keep
Those might be Pacific Hake? I think Black Cod are deep water fish around 600ft.
Juveniles they come up when they are younger go deep as they age

Isn't dungeness open until July 30th?
This is a good sign, the water is supporting a good population.

Wow huge school of sablefish! Nice work on the kings and crabs!
Been waiting for this video!

It looks that the cod are very attracted to the lights on you camera.

Nice work Chris, WTG 👍

Lol, sable fish are very good eating and desirable.
Great vid
I am going out tomorrow! I can't wait!

Nice!!!
can peeps go with you??
Are you not allowed to keep CoHo? Or what is the size limit for that?
Lol maybe I saw you out there bro I was out there with my buddy
Hell yea, Chris!
That’s crazy love the camera look how they’re more interested in the camera than your actual bait
Still don’t understand why don’t hard set your release clips
Are you using mono or braid for salmon?
I believe those were regular cod. Black cod don’t have barbels on their chins.
Those "pests" look like they are Hake. Some years they are bountiful.
I froze the shot at just pre-release. It looks to be a sable fish and very edible. Shoulda kept it.
Sablefish apparently $10-$20 per pound fish…sheesh
"Its a big silver" 🤣
Put that Baby Back...

BLACK COD!!! DELICIOUS!!!!

🤙🏾🤙🏾
First few seconds of underwater footage looked like stripers. Definitely an annoyance.
