Hey Chris, the fish in question is what us okd timers called Hake. I didn't look close but I heard there was a ton out there along with Silver's. And BTW, on Thursday, the fish biologist was at Bodega, said there was a mess of people keeping silvers unknowingly. Mr. F&G was issuing $900 citations.

Oh Chris, you just drop a real good eating fish. That first fish is a juvenile sablefish. Great eating and legal to keep

It was a good morning out there, tons of bait fish and whales. We had similar issues with the cod fish and cohos until we went a bit north for the kings!

Been fishing bodega for 25 years and have never caught a sable out there. I did catch what would have been a state record jack mackerel when trolling for salmon though. Weighed it and filleted it lol.

Is there a small light on your underwater cameras? Sablefish usually live in really deep water and feed on critters that have a bio luminescense. that's why they were so attracted to it.

dumb question, when using underwater camera trolling do you need to worry about the weight of the camera. Like if I was top lining for say Rainbow trout and not using a downrigger how far would the line drop with the weight of the camera.

in my opinion it should be illegal to throw back legal size salmon. The mortality rate of released salmon is high. Boats catching keepers and releasing them to try and upgrade are hurting the fishery much more then someone keeping the smaller size "legal" catch.
