Thank you for this video! I had to purchase a zoom lens on short notice for a trip and the Olympus 40-150mm is GOOD! You're so right! How is this a $100 lens brand new??? Thank you again!

In my experience the Lumix 20mm f1.7 has slow AF. The Lumix 25mm f1.7 has fast AF. The Olympus 45mm F1.8 is a fantastic lens and it is not expensive at all.

    • @PaulTakesPhotos
      @PaulTakesPhotos  4 роки тому +1

Excellent summary. The 20mm does suffer from focus hunting. The 25mm is much better. 45mm olympus nearly twice the price of the 25mm :) that said conpared with some conpetitors lenses or other system it ia still a steal.
Thank you for providing your input and feedback. What is your favo mft lens?

  • @Leptospirosi

3:45 spend more and get the Olympus 25 1.8. it has no focus shifting between 2.8 and 5.6 and it's completely CA free unlike the lumix version which has plenty of both. The 1.8 is also more eaven in sharpness across the frame then the lumix 1.4. it costs a bit more then the 1.7 but it's well worth the difference.
I would also recommend the Lumix 12-32 f3.5/5.6 and 35-100 f4.0/5.6: they are reasonably inexpensive and quality wise comparable with the kit zoom you propose, but they are so damn small that you can throw them in a pocket and forget to having them with you.

While I had my Sony a65 (until a couple of days ago), I didn't use my gh4 or gh5 for photography, now I will. I got some of this lens, I hope I get the... 45? and a wheather sealed one... just because it is raining lately here in Medellín.

Great video. I've got the 25mm for my G7 and I love it. Also have a Lumix 14-45mm, which is pretty good, but the 25mm gets the most use.

Thanks for the compliment! My favourite is the 45mm olympus as it is fast and very sharp. The 25mm is great for photography!
Great thing about lumix lenses are that they tend to be very affordable and provide bang for your buck and are very light weight :)

I have been finding my lenses by chance and apart from the 25mm none are on the list of the sharpest. I hope I can get good use out of them but sometimes I would like to sell them all and get some with manual focus. The focus by wired approach is torture for video. I've never had a chance to try a premium lens...hopefully one day I will, but there are so many other things I want that are cheaper...

I have the gx85 and was set on "upgrading" to the a6400 for the last few weeks until I started watching comparison videos and it didn't seem like it would be as big of a quality increase as I thought. So now I'm debating just getting better lenses instead. Any advice on that?

I use Panasonic 25 mm, 14-42 mm, 45-200 mm and a lot (about 20) of Pentax mount lenses (using M42-M4/3 and PK-M4/3 adapters). Some lenses are enough big, so their weight works well as inertial stabilizing system.

Have you used the Panasonic 12-32mm? My 1st M43 was the G9 which I love. Picked up a GX80 with the 12-32 and 45-150 used on $450 US. Like having both cameras and use the GX for a walking around camera. Have not used the 12-32 much to decide the quality of it.

If you are looking for weather sealing i would suggest the Olympus 7-14mm f2. 8 Pro (14-28mm full frame) for zoom lenses. Panasonic 12-35 f/2.8 (2012 release), Olympus 12-45 f4. Tricky as weather sealed lenses tend to cost a little more (used marked best option). Sigma 16mm f/1.4 is a steal

    • @PaulTakesPhotos

      That is a good question.
I would always go for the more expensive options.
I'd say the the Lumix 35-100mm f2.8 is a very good option, not cheap but very good for film and video.
You could also try the 25mm as described in the video but the lens for video hunts and is maybe a little bit too wide. The ROKinon 85mm cine lens is a good option but is a prime lens yet very affordable. Let me know if it was helpful please

I'd go for the 400mm as it is just as sharp on 400mm as the 100-300mm .
In fairness (i had the 400mm rented it) the sharpest pictures are up 350mm with anf f-stop beween 10 and 12.
In the end of the day your budget also plays a part.
400mm has the latstest image stabilization which can be extended in combination with a camera that has body stabilization
