This guy is good. I used his video and swapped out my ignition switch. His personality is dry but he's still the best one I've seen.
This Young Man Understood The Walk-Someone-Through-Something Assignment.
GREAT Job, young man.
What a great video. I was in the middle of this project and got stumped. This solved my problem and I finished the job. Well filmed and easy to understand. Thank you.
+Jim H Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Thanks for the how to. Saved me 120$.
Need to let this guy do all the how to videos
I changed my ignition in 5 minutes by drilling a small hole through the steering shroud above the lock cylinder and stuck a pick through the hole to press down on the cylinder release. quick and easy.
What size bit do I need?
@@wildestcowboy2668 Big enough to get a pick through it? lol
What about that t15 bolt holding the cylinder from falling out? What does drilling a hole from top do? I know there is a release pin but not sure if you can make a video of how I would do it? Thanks!
If that's real it is genius
Can you post a video or picture of it?
Awesome video.... Very instructive.... VERY thorough on EACH step. This had for to be the best... How to video ...I've seen so far.. Great job ..... But I did notice if someone has a ? No one responds.... Why would they.. lol... The video covers it....
The tool he used is called a lock plate removal
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks!!
Thanks ese
Is it a must? Can I change the ignition without it?
We really appreciate your great job.
Hussein's from Germany 🙋♂️

This is the best video on the internet
Thank you ! After two days of frustration, I saw your video - so easy !!!

You are good ! Terrific video, thanks for the schooling.
Wow man great job on such a detailed video
Thank you for video you saved me 100$
Great video, this helped a lot
What is that special tool called you used to press in to get that lock ring off after you pulled the steering wheel???
Thanks man I needed this
Great video! Probably saved me $200.
Although it is not mentioned in the vid, at some point I noticed you dropped the steering column. Is this necessary for the process in some way?
Ong
In some cases (and they aren't vehicle specific) it's to get to the wiring harness under the dash to disconnect the turn signal switch wiring. Some vehicles don't have enough slack in the wiring to get the turn signal switch (the largest plastic piece he removes before getting to the lock cylinder) out of the way to get to the lock cylinder. Wiring is attached to the back side of the turn signal switch. Some may pull the wiring off of the turn signal switch if they pull too hard. Dropping the column makes it easy to get to the wiring harness to disconnect and reconnect the wiring harness.
@@wildcat314 Thanks. That makes sense now.
@@wildcat314 Wow he left a major step out! Thanks for letting us know!
Lost the keys to my 93 OBS and used this video. Highly recommend
+@metaworlddomination4923 Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Very good video and commentary. Thanks.
Yeah bruv, when did you remove the covering for the wiring harness around the steering column?
Thank you.
Is this the way to change the ignition switch in a 1989 chevrolet blazer also?
Where did the wires come from?
Great video
You just made more work for your self by taking the wires off that's not necessary at all you don't even have to take your battery terminal off just more work
Will this work if the ignition is stuck in the on position?
You mention it must be off?
Awesome video. Thanks!
what is that part at 6:34 that every video i've watched refers to it as a little thingy etc. what does it do and on many older vehicles it is very brittle and breaks when removing, can you buy a replacement and is it critical.
My spring clip popped out of key switch can’t figure how it clips and stays in can you help
What is the name or part number of the plastic tab you slid out right before you took the t15 screw and cylinder out? Mine is broke and idn even know what to call it
Its a contact for the horn, if yours is broke it's new column time
Just wondering about how much does it cost to have the Ignition Lock Cylinder Replaced on a 1989 GMC Truck.
depends on the shop/mechanic labor time. 100 dollars to 200 would be my guess, an individual mechanic may be cheaper.
If you are around the muscle shoals Alabama area my shop charges $50 if u bring the truck and $150 if we come over!
I have problem now after replacing the bearing. I have removed everything followed this video returned everything. When I try to start the engine, there no power. Horn is ok, turn lights, hazards lights, wiper, everything is ok except the ignition switch. What seems to be the issue? Did I miss something? Please help
In this video, he seems to have skipped a bunch of steps taking things apart, that he is shown reassembling. Also, a "new" wiring harness? He didn't show any of that being removed & replaced in this video...
Do you know the name of the tool. The one to remove the long thick screw like at the center of the steering wheelie. The tool that looks like a wine bottle opener.
What is the 1st plastic piston u press into tumbler. Truck won't start after replacement of tumbler
What size is the t15 bolt? Or how can i order it 🫠
Whay size are the bolts to use on the steering wheel puller?
God it’s lame needing a special tool for every little job!
I broke the piton that you remove right after the hazard switch what is it called so i could replace it
Did you find out what’s that piece called?
@@Hijodelrey420 bump - - - also looking for the answer xD
Same. I dont know where to find one outside of a junkyard
I have an 89 GMC that randomly decides it wants to start. Battery’s fine, could this be why?
Where can i get the clip that holds in the plate mine its bad and i cant find one
You could try at a salvage yard
I'm stuck where the ignition isn't lining up right not sure what to do next I've taken it out 10 times and it's still not lining up
Where can i get another one of those screws that hold the lock cylinder in place
Wat if u don't have a lock plate removal and ur hands r disabled in a bad way how can I push that in
Substitutes in Spanish, please. Your videos are very good. I have a 1999 Chevrolet S 10 and I would like to know more about repairs to this truck. Thank you very much for uploading these videos.👍
So, what was that “ special tool” that was used at 2:31
You dont need to take out horn contacts. Broke mine and didnt need to. Save a lot of headache trying to figure out what you broke.
My lock plate remember is to big what do I do I got the ring out but can’t get it in
What the tool your using to push it down called
Thats what iam tryna figure out
Same question
Have you found what it’s called yet?
steering wheel lock plate removal tool
DO NOT leave the nut on if using a wheel removal tool. it will mushroom the threads, he should've specified.
What’s that second special tool called?
I’ve got to change my ignition on my 85 Buick Leasabre and I’ve never changed an ignition b4 and I’ll be honest, I’m a little nervous. I’d rather change my earl alone with the filter. I’ve also have to change valve cover gaskets. Fun times @Ridgemont High
Dude. Why are you doing all this to put in a new cylinder? What year is this truck?
Extra recommendation take the key out to get the petong in
+@cameronkolb9314 Thanks for the feedback! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
I lost my key so can I still do this ? 😩
yes
What if my cylinder is stuck in on position?
What happens if I have a lost key. Is it not possible to do this without the key?
Hey did u ever find out the answer to this?
The ignition comes with a new key, I’ve done this twice so far.
I thought that was the problem on my truck but it still turns on with out a key
What if my truck its locked in on position ??
What if my key ignition is locked?
Does anyone know the name of that plastic tab at 5:35
Amigo eate switch se puede desarmar para hacerle la llave?
I have tons of play in my cylinder hopefully that fixes the problem I had ….
Steering column shifter got stuck on drive DIDNT wanna shift into park
I had a mechanic replace a ignition switch for me once. He told me there is a key that will go out shortly afterward. Within 6 months it did. When the key went out my cylinder spun all the way around. That might be your problem. But, I am no mechanic.
Learn to pick with lock picks and you can decode and cut a fresh key and be done.
I normally if I have to go this deep in will pull the door, get most of the cuts then progression the remaining amount.
yes. But not with this type of ignition- side bar makes it where you cannot pick this particular lock
Live dangerous leave the battery connected
This is not easy i figure changing the whole column is easier
Why won’t my key come out
+Derek Hamblin We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
why the gloves
wrong not like 1998
Thank you.
