- This quarantine friendly craft uses a composition book, a decorative napkin, mod podge and an iron to create a covered notebook. It’s an easy process, but because of the use of an iron it is not designed for children to complete without adult supervision. Give it a try, learn from my mistakes and have fun!
This is the best an instructional video can be: no music, clear explanations, useful tips and excellent demos. Thank-you for showing us how to do well the tehniques we need.
I'm happy to hear that you've found it helpful 💕
Hola Cori, gracias por compartir éste bello proyecto, inspirador.Un aplauso y un saludo desde Argentina 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😘
Gracias, fue un placer. Saludos desde el estado de Washington.
Some brilliant tips there, Cori! Will be trying them out for sure. Thankyou kindly.
My pleasure Veronica. Happy creating!
Excellent Tutorial. Thank you.
Im happy you found it helpful, thank you~!
Love this…so cool-looking and useful..♥️🌸♥️
Ok I did not know that heat activates the mod podge🤯! Cori you are filled with amazing tips. Thank you
My pleasure and honestly, it's mostly trial by error.
I made my own notebook from scratch the other day using a double layer of snack box for the 'chip board' and then I covered it with butcher's paper.
Then I used a napkin with glue stick - as I had seen in a video on using napkins to cover card stock for card fronts - I really was thinking mod podge would work better at the time.
Then I put a couple of coats of mod podge over the whole thing to protect it since the idea is that it will be in my bag and will get a lot of wear and tear.
Interesting to see this after I made mine :) I may try this on a composition book, I love recovering and altering them :)
Good tip on the sanding and the cutting tip for the napkins and the paper clips, I have made these with scrap paper and old book paper then added a small dangle.LOVE he Black napkin on that book you showed. I usually just glue scrapbook paper to my covers and then mod podge a covering coat, will give this a go.
Thanks for all the info and the time you took to share it all with us.
Your project sounds wonderful. Happy creating to you!
I love this idea! Thank you!
Cori, you are the only other person I've seen do the Mod Podge/heat trick. I've done this for a couple of years now but I use my laminator to fuse paper on a ge coasted surface. And just last night I began another 'experiment.' I mixed Mod Podge and gesso together then applied two coats to a cut up box. Needed to cover the pattern so I wouldn't show through. I haven't yet adhered paper to this and it might now work at all, though the gesso covered the surface well and it has the feel of a Mod Podge surface. I think it is possible you could be a never known baby sister! Your clever ideas trigger my own ideas for making cards as well as journal embellishments. Enjoying a lazy day just watching your videos and drinking iced tea. Thanks for sharing all your creativity.
If you could come up with a creation/blend/concoction to make them not stick when they’re next to each other (smooshed together on a shelf) that would be wonderful! Glad you’re enjoying your tea and the videos 💕
Great tutorial! Now I’m looking forward to covering my abundance of notebooks with my over abundance of napkins using this technique! 😊 TFS!
Be warned, it's an addictive process! Make sure you give them plenty of dry time, or they will stick together when stored next to each other (can you guess how I know this?)
Thanks Cori - another great video.
Thank you Elizabeth :)
That was excellent. Thanks
I have never seen this technique done with an iron before. I will give it a go as it appears almost wrinkle free. Thanks
Wonderful outcome! I've never tried it, but will! Thanks for the helpful tips!
HelloCori, so happy to be spending the day with you. I had surgery not long ago and have great days and not so great. I'm actually thrilled to be working on my Cori reference journal. It's been such a delight learning all of your creative inspitatiorational items that are just fabulous. Thank you, Again, for sharing your tallent that inspires many. You have a wonderful way of explaining all the way from begining to end leaving no confusion. I realized you are a teacher. We have much in common. I'm retired K, and grade 1. I'm certain you get many requests from parents wanting their child to have you be their child's teacher the next school year.
Thanks again, for everything. 🍃🌷
Thank you Cheryl, for your kindness and service. I’ve taught every grade…. Except K. I love those adorable littles, yet I think teaching them is a special calling. I’m truly blessed to work with the best K teachers on the planet!
I love how you have everything ready and are super organized!
Thank you!
Napkins make lovely covers! I love your ideas Cori! Tyfs!
They do indeed. There are so many gorgeous ones available 💕
You are amazingly talented
Thank you 😊
Well done Cori, I am so happy to see you are now doing videos. I told you after watching your Craft cave Tour video that you would be great doing videos 😊
Great tip with the sandwiching napkins between paper to make it easier to trim them and I didn't know about the mod podge first then iron the napkin on trick! that's awesome as I hate all the messing about and waiting for everything to dry!! I will definitely be giving that a try 👌 xoxox
Northern Craftaholic UK - Victoria [Minxy] Tips and tricks and learning from each other is what I’m all about. Well, that and playing with paper. I LOVE having you here and thank you for the kind words.
Love the way the napkins look thank you
Quick and fun gifts that are easy to personalize. For folks that like to write 😊
Thank you Cori, love the video, super quick and to the point!
Thank you Sandy! I hope it inspires you to play with your napkins :)
Love these! They would be create for teacher gifts 😉😊
Why yes, many teachers would love to receive one of these 😊
Great job! I had no idea that you could heat set dry mod podge, so much easier than fighting the napkin with it wet. I am finally back in my studio and really enjoyed crafting along with you. Maybe next time we come west we can meet in person. Thanks for sharing!
I would LOVE that! So good to hear you’re back in your craft room. Please share what you create as I would love to see them !
I positively love this!! Definitely going to be making a lot of notebooks!
They are a lot of fun! Just make sure you give them plenty of drying time or the covers might be sticky.
Where do you find those beautiful napkins? I am not shopping at the right places!
Love those dangels! TFS how to make them!! You are so creative! 😀
Tuesday Morning and Etsy. Thank you 😊
GENIOUS
Thank you. I learned a lot from that.
Hi.New subscriber. Love these and learned some great tips. Those dangles are Awesome! Thank you for sharing. X-Susan
Welcome and I’m glad you’re re getting some new ideas 😊
Do you iron the inside card stock as well to keep it flat. Really good tutorial. Thank you. Love your voice. It is so soothing to listen to. Have a happy Day
Thank you and I use a press board that I made to flatten my coffee dyed card stock.
These are beautiful! If you were to sell them at a craft event, what do you think is a fair price?
Oh man. That's tough. Maybe $10?
Thx so much for describing your process. One thing you mentioned was that you did not like the look of gel medium in lieu of Mod Podge. Can you say what the result was? I was going to use the one you showed in matte as I am not crazy about MP as even in matte it's shinny to me. TY!
Shoot, I meant to share the one I covered with gel matte medium, then I saw how long winded I was and cut it off. I got a much more bumpy finish when I used the gel matte medium as the base glue. My napkin was bumpy and the smoothness I got when adhering the napkin with mod podge was absent. I agree that even the matte mod podge has a bit of a sheen, so what I'd consider is this: lay mod podge on the base of the book, so you can smoothly adhere the napkin (or tissue paper. That works well too), then for your finish coat you can use gel matte medium. I've not tried it on a composition book, but I use it often in altered art projects so I think that would give you the finish you like. Have fun and I'd love to see your completed project!
@@CoriDahmen Thx so much for responding Cori. That sounds like a good idea to me. Yeah, I'm going to make one . I've never tried ironing with applying napkins, so I'm excited!
What paper trimmer did you use? There are so many out there don’t know which to get. Thank you
There are a ton of paper trimmers out there and it's tough because so many folks prefer different features. I currently use a variety of Tim Holtz/Tonic studios trimmers and I'm pleased with them.
Can I use gesso instead of acrylic
Gesso will work, but you'll get a different finish. Most any glue will work.
Can you say what kind of mod podge you used? There are so many ..
Hello! I used the matte finish for these. The key was to make sure I allowed plenty of dry time. Happy creating!
@@CoriDahmen thanx so much for your quick reply and generosity..
