    Dude, you are awesome. I was so stressed watching videos but you have a way of breaking it down and telling me exactly what has to happen. A lot more confident. You are training us to train them! You should look at our video production skills, I genuinely think with some production value you could be a top dog on youtube.

    I really appreciate the strong, laser-like focus of each video on a single issue or aspect of training. You have an excellent pedagogical style that is easy to follow and understand. Speaking of focus-- your emphasis on this aspect of training really changing how I'm thinking about how I'll be working with our new Airedale Terrier puppy!

    Great bite-size lesson. Just what I needed to lay the ground work for all other instruction.

    Just got a lab puppy last Saturday. Any chance you can come train him for me 😂 will do our best with the tips you’ve got, it’s our first pup. He’s crazy. Love him to bits but Jesus he’s mad 😂

      Also. We’ve got two cats. Ones ok with him the others a bit standoffish. How would you deal with this situation?

    Hello! In the first step you mark everytime you say the dogs name right? So the substeps are Name - Mark - Reward, correct? I'm asking cause i'm using a clicker as marker.
    I've a 5 month old American Akita and i'm really struggling to get her attention! Thanks for your videos, are super great!

    Hello can I ask. When you say you use the dogs meals to train, so you measure their breakfast/dinner or tea out pop it in your bag then do training and reward them with that meal? Would you do training with one meal? Then the next two meals feed then from their bowl? Does that make sense?
    Sorry If I sound thick.
    Thank you

    Hi, I’m about to become a new puppy owner and find your videos really helpful. Can you tell me, what are the training treats you use. Are they homemade or purchased?

    • @TheCanineCoachDogTraining
      @TheCanineCoachDogTraining  3 роки тому +2

      So I use a few different treats, ham, hotdogs, chicken, cheese, sausages etc etc please don’t waste your money on fancy packaging at a pet store! Cheap versions of what I listed is SO much better and the dogs actually like it 10X as much!!! I also use the dogs regular meals for training :)

    How long should we work on our puppies name? We have had him for a day(I know) but I want to start him off right and he seems to be settling in with no issues with where he is or anything. But How many training sessions (10 min or so) should it take for him to catch on? He’s 11 weeks

    When teaching the puppies name, and getting their attention, how many times or days do you work with them on this. At what point do you move on to the next thing?

  • @crystalkary143

    Hey there! We pick up our new puppy in a few weeks and I have binge watched your channel multiple times haha. In the teaching your puppy their name video you mention not to use it for recall however in the recall video you say the dogs name followed by come. Can you please clarify this for me. Thank you!

    • @TheCanineCoachDogTraining
      @TheCanineCoachDogTraining  3 роки тому +1

      So the key here is all about tone of voice but also the recall almost has two phases to it. First of all The puppies busy so I want a bit of attention and then come. It has more chance of being ignored if you just say come. But like I say the big thing here is the tone is so different that even the name almost has a different meaning because of the tone. E.g for my pup rogan. If I want his attention I say a very short sharp ‘RO’ if I say his recall is a much slower ‘Rooo-gon come’ hope that makes sense:)

    Hello, I am attempting to clicker train. For the first stage of name -> reward, should I use the clicker. I am assuming not, since we're building an association to the name and not so much getting a desired action.

    • @grahammackenzie8778
      @grahammackenzie8778 4 місяці тому

      I was wondering the same thing, and came to the same conclusion. I'm going to start using the clicker to mark when she's making eye contact, but for the name association it doesn't seem necessary.

    How long should each stage take? By the time I’m on the second step my 8 week old will only get it right 2-3 times before getting overexcited and jumping all over my hand. I’m using chicken because she has not interest in her kibble for long

    What should come first - awareness of their name or the reward marker word?

    • @TheCanineCoachDogTraining
      @TheCanineCoachDogTraining  10 місяців тому +1

      Heyy! So in reality you can do either and it’s still a great start! You can also do both simultaneously right from day one! Gun to my head if I had to say one it would be name awareness, bridging that language barrier and teaching your dog how to communicate with you is the most important! And you can also use name awareness sessions to charge up that marker word! Just don’t get stuck in the weeds of what’s better to train first!! Anything is better than nothing!! 👊🏼

    I’m so flustered I can’t get my puppy to look me in the eyes. She seriously will look everywhere but my eyes. When she starts to act frustrated I stop, let her shake it off and then switch to play time. Help me please

  • @gcwilson1

    That was really helpful. We’ve never well close to never 😊 used his name negatively. We have combined the two name/eye contact. I’m gonna break them apart and start fresh. Everyone asks his name and then use it. Would a strategy be to tell them his full name so they don’t ruin his “real” name. Eg: Ezekiel vs Zeke I’ve asked people not to but most cannot help themselves. Thanks again!! Please keep it up. How can we support you?

    • @TheCanineCoachDogTraining
      @TheCanineCoachDogTraining  3 роки тому +1

      Great question. Tone of voice is huge here. When you say his name as a command it’s usually quite obvious to the dog.. it’s more short and shark with a slightly higher tone of voice! Still a good idea to get people to use a different version of his name but I wouldn’t worry too much about other people ruining it so long as your tone of voice when saying his name is the same time every time and not how strangers would say his name!
