When I was in my teens in the 70s a friend that I went shooting with had a 2100 . It was powerful and accurate. He was always trying to outdo me with the Crosman 6100 - Which it couldn't do but it was better than he gave it credit for. He ended up with a Sheridan and then a Nylon .22. Good times and good memories.

Nibs I brought a 2100 from Amazon in February 2024 for $60 plus Sales Tax with Prime shipping. I used the Keywords "Crosman Classic" and got three options to choose from. The one I got had a production code of N21 and came with a 4x15 scope. The scope worked much better than the scope in my 760B kit.
I had difficulty cocking the rifle at first, upon inspection I found you have to pull up and back on the cocking lever with your forefinger to clear a shallow notch in the receiver while your thumb depresses the rear extension of the cocking lever allowing the extension to slide into the receiver. It was probably a safety feature since the extension acts like a bolt stop. Wished it was mentioned it the operating manual I downloaded.

My 788 scout, 760 when I was 11 and my 6100 when 15 will always be remembered by me.I still have the latter. I bet it has 25000 rounds on it !

I also have an old 766 that I got when I was 14 back in '79. I still have it and it still works, great guns that apparently last forever if you take decent care of them. Back in '12 I bought a 2100 at Wal-Mart for fifty bucks. I built a wooden stock and forearm (pump arm) for it, and put a nice scope on it. Looks great and it too still works perfectly and is very accurate!

Last year I bought a Crosman 2100 that was made in April 2020 it has a metal reciever and a metal pump arm inside the forearm. The gun shoots good and I enjoy target shooting with it as much as I do my other guns from Daisy, Umarex and Gamo.

The first air gun I ever bought was one of these. Somewhere in the early to mid 90's (can't remember exactly,) I decided to give air guns a go. Been mostly shooting 22LRs up to that point, but already being severely hearing impaired, I decided it would be a good idea to limit myself to firearm noise. My 2100 classic is still in my collection and still works great. It's a lot easier to pump than any of my other air rifles so I've kept it around for when I have someone along with me for plinking.

My first BB/pellet rifle was a 760 & got it with no Butt stock. My dad had one of three stocks from a Winchester model 101 O/U that he had a friend at Winchester fit to the 760. It looked great but so wrong. The stock was one of three my dad was going to send to Olin Kodensha in Japan for a pre/production styling model of the very first 101 in 20ga (i have that beauty) It was full fancy French Walnut that my dad hand selected the blank for. My friend Larry said the back of my 760 was rich and the front was poor.
⭐️just bought the 2100 at your Amazon store front. 👍🏼

The charging and firing mechanisms may be very similar, and I'm sure they are virtually identical feeding pellets. There are clear differences between the 760 and the other two rifles feeding BBs.
Yes, BBs suffer compared to pellets for accuracy and energy delivered to the target, but there are a lot of folks who prefer to shoot BBs for the cost so I think it bears clarification.
They all have a BB reservoir which feeds a tube magazine from which BBs are chambered by operating the slide bolt. From here on, the rifles have a significant difference.
The 760 has a gate near where the butt-stock joins the frame. Opening the gate allows BBS to flow into the tube magazine by force of gravity when you lower the barrel. Close the gate to retain 18 BBs in the tube. These BBs are then captured by the magnetic bolt-tip when it is pulled back, then chambered when it is pushed fully forward again.
The 1000 and 2100 both have a spring-loaded follower on the left side of the frame which also functions as the loading gate for the tube magazine. Pull the follower back and down to allow BBs to flow from the reservoir to the tube magazine, then raise the follower handle and allow the spring to set the follower firmly against the tube magazine full of BBs. The constant spring pressure ensures that a BB is in the proper position to ensure one is captured by the magnetic tip of the bolt when it is pulled back.
The difference is that with no spring follower in the 760, it is possible that the BBs will roll to the rear of the tube magazine and fail to be picked up by the magnetic tip when the bolt is cycled. With the spring-loaded follower magazine, this feeding error cannot happen.
This may be a minor point, but the 760 has a lower advertised muzzle velocity than the 1000 or the 2100.

I bought a 2100 Classic. After 1500 rounds of pellets the grouping was all over the place. After 1000 rounds of bbs the pellet grouping and overall accuracy was much better and still improving.

I had a 2100 for like 30 years. After putting thousands of bbs and pellets in it, it was still super accurate with pellets. Dime sized groups at 20 yards. BBs were always less accurate but super fun! Just use it with both. Won't harm it a bit. Have fun!

    • @trevorjameson3213

@@chrysoprase3313 Yeah it doesn't seem to hurt them to use BB's. I still have my 1979 Crosman 766 (old version of the 2100) that I got when I was 13, and it still works. Tens of thousands of BB's through that gun, and recently I've been shooting pellets only in it. And it's still perfectly accurate at 20 yards. I don't know, but I'm assuming these rifles last a lifetime, at least mine has so far. The stock has gotten a little loose and the BB spring is sagged out a little, but it still works!

@Ernie Stoner well I felt the same way when I was younger, but now I have had experience keeping venomous snakes, they actually don't chase people, if they are coming towards you they think that's the best way to get away from you, ive owned a couple of them and they are one of the more laid back vipers, copperheads are way faster to bite than cottonmouths, but I still wouldn't recommend trying to pet them or kiss them on the head, lol, they will definitely give you a hell of a hospital bill and a real bad few days, but they don't really deserve the reputation they have, but most people fear snakes so they don't understand their behaviors, so that's why I don't mind taking the time to educate people, because they provide a important part to the ecosystem, I still don't want them in my yard, but now I move them to a area away from people where they can live out their lives and we can live ours in harmony, sorry for the long comment, lol, have a good day!

  • @kevanhubbard9673

Looks exactly like the 766 I had.I am guessing an updated version of the 766 but must have the same power plant? As I recall the 766 was quite potent.I don't think that there's a significant difference between those 3 guns.Yes the BB magazine is rather perplexing.I believe that the 766 family were roughly modeled on the Remington Nylon which,as you'll almost certainly know, was an early plastic stock .22 LR rifle (1960's?) and I believe semi automatic but I can't remember now. I think that the Nylon was the model 66 Nylon hence the 66 in the 766? Maybe Remington introduced the Nylon in 1966 ?

    • @erniestoner8266
      @erniestoner8266 Рік тому +1

Yes the Nylon 66 was semi auto. My friend shot his thousands of times when we used to hunt a lot when we were young. I shot a Browning pump .22 . The Browning seemed to me to be too nice to hunt with but I did anyways. I've still got it and he's still got his Nylon .22. BOTH ARE NOT " FOR SALE ".😉😊😎
