BC Road Trip Time Machine: Highway 1 - Burnaby to Pattullo Bridge, 1966

Take a trip down memory lane as we travel BC Highway 1 as it was in 1966 through the communities of Burnaby, New Westminster, across the Pattullo Bridge and into Surrey.

Views of a landscape that unfortunately doesn't really exist anymore. The whole route is now an urban nightmare gone berserk, and construction has started on the replacement of the Pattullo Bridge. This was the old Vancouver/Burnaby/New West that I liked: urban but not congested. Very nice to see my old memories of this area come alive again.

I just drove most of this an hour ago and do daily so this was soooo cool!!!! Wow Surrey was a lot smaller and quieter back then.

I remember New West, surrey and Langley and out Maple ridge way when I was young around this time, was much more farms and laid back must have been wonderful before the 20`s

It's interesting how many gas stations there were along that route. I counted 38 and probably missed a few.

This was a about 7 years before I was born.
Many of the places are still there now.

And 37 cents per Imperial gallon. 8.3 cents a litre! I recall going to Sambo's as a kid, forgot where it was. Just past Dueck which became Courtesy Chev-Olds.

0:48 That building on the left intersection of 12st and 10th Ave, New Westminster side is still there. It's a laundry mat and the building across the street is still there too.

back in the day when gas was cheap they could fill up at so many places and it was all full serve. now we have high gas prices and so few places to fill up except at the huge stations that make you do the pumping of the gas

what would you think the hourly wage was then in 66?...even for a high school kid with a deuce coupe, gas was expensive
