The hate in these comments are ridiculous - you wanna watch a drummer on a YT drumming channel just play the simple beats? Man’s just having fun ripping it
@@pibroch i do wonder if that might have to do with old songs being more loose with tempo and it being about sticking to the groove and staying in the pocket while now everything is on a consistent click that you're always trying to stay on
If this dude was in a 70's-80's rock band he would be one of those names you hear people talk about for decades to come. Tosh has the perfect energy for a true old school rock & roll band. Not some modern age rock band, but a true rock & roll band. He plays as if he's walking a tight rope between rhythm and absolute chaos, and the result is spectacular. Hats off to you my friend.
I love that all the guys at the drum department are so respectful and open minded to all the drummers they have as guests, it’s a very refreshing thing to see musicians having fun and sharing knowledge
I love this dude! He’s having fun and is a fantastic drummer. I’m not a fan of some of the acts he’s played with but everything I’ve seen on Drumeo has made me a fan. He reminds me of the drummer in my first band. He would take his shirt off after the first song of every gig we’d play.
It's not just new drummer to old song, it's applying different styles to everything and learning the creativity that comes from it. I love playing famous songs in different styles! It's not a new thing, it's a necessary thing for drummers to keep expanding.
Tosh is one of my favourite drummers out there and I’ve followed everything he’s done way back to the Montreal Jazz festival with Nik West .. so glad he got an episode on here 🙏🏻
This is a dream come true literally. I have always wondered what Hendrix would sound like with a modern drummer. THANK YOU! Also Tosh is an animal. Love it. Wow.
I got to jam with Tosh a few years ago and he's not only a beast of a musician but he's so sweet and supportive. I was waiting to see him on this channel. Loved it!
Love it!!! Awesome. Love that u get to show off a little! When playing old songs with the purists we’re told to play simple always, but a lot of what you did sound soooo cool!!! Great job
Great Concept and Tosh is a freaking beast. He could play pretty much anything he wants. Seeing Tosh adjusting so well to old tunes made me wonder if the opposite would be as easy. Like, would older drummers be able to adjust to modern rock/funk/pop songs? Based on my experience seeing older guitar players stuck in their ways of playing the guitar (i.e., riffing and soloing as they did 30-40 years ago) I guess the same would apply for most old drummers that would try to play modern music.
Please upload last week’s drum department again. I watched the half of it, was going to continue. It was really fun and educational for me about the odd time signatures. Good news is that I found that in Spotify, at least I can listen to it :(
All these guys you bring in, regardless of age, they look like they could do this everyday, all day, for the rest of their life, even if they don’t get paid. They sure love what they do and it shows
I'd say this is a great way to show that sometimes less is more. It's not bad, just very busy. Smoke on the Water was my personal favorite out of them all. Those hh trips were nice in there.
@@Christopher-md7tfoverplaying is such a dumb term in my opinion. Overplaying to what? Music is supposed to be fun. If you’re at a jazz gig and playing like this, sure maybe don’t. But i dont see why you should call someone just having fun overplaying 🤷🏻
Agreed, there is something to simplicity when it comes to certain songs and genres. That being said, he is a super talented drummer. Smoke on the Water was my fav
Man how is nobody talking about Tosh's rendition of Kokomo. That was FANTASTIC! Simplistic but added to the vocals without overpowering them. Beautiful stuff Tosh!
I love this guy. He brings so much energy to his drumming, he smacks the sh*t out his skins, he does delicious fills, and he looks like he is having a blast. ❤
DID'NT KNOW THAT WOW. REST IN PEACE JOE. LOVE TO YOU CAROL AND FAMILY GOT TO VISIT THE CALATO STICK FACTORY BACK IN THE DAY WITH JEFF NEUHAUSER. WATCHING THE PROCESS WAS AMAZING. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU CONTUNUE TO DO. GOD BLESS.
He’s got the same mindset as me accept his way I want better and younger. I like the way he pushes the beat! Maybe because I tend to drag because I got some back and neck issues. 😅 I subscribed to his channel. How could you not, he fucking rocks!
Im yp seconds in and this is exactly what i love about rock and roll. We literally had a drummer namned Chris B. Who played like this. We did punk, country and roots rock. He used the same energy for all of it. Genre became irrelevant. It was all high energy. It was so much fun. Sometimes we were sloppy. Sometimes we wrecked the covers we did. Sometines....it was a real kick. Long live goofball, cartoonish drummers who give it gas. Chris even set his kit up with an impotrance placed far more on the way it looked when he was flailing his arms than economic playing. He sat on a millk crate and had a crash on a fully extended stand. That put it 6 or 7 feet up there. Hed launch himself up, whack that sucker and come crashing back down onto his Mccolls crate without missing a beat. (Well....maybe one or 2). Hus stomach was tatooed with a huge inverted cross. It was made of stiches and looked like a sewed up satanic wound. He was not a satanist or even depressed. He simply though a dude with a tatoo like that would have to be one bad assed silly boy. Chris wanted to be that guy. He made skin tight leather pants out of his motorcycle seat cover and wore them for a year without washing them. I blame that smell for our lack of comercial success. Chris.....this reminded me of him. Getting heavy drummers to play more traditional styles can be super fun.
He's sensational. I think you & the drummer would benefit by pulling his volume down in the mix though. I know it's a "drum" channel but you want him to fit into the mix & enhance the song, not necessarily overpower it. Tosh is incredible btw. 17:11 -17:15 i think is exactly where you want to aim for.
As a musician myself I'd prefer to not know a song and play my own interpretation of it from what I hear in my head and then hear it's actual part and be like wow I was close but I did fills that weren't there. At the end of the day sitting behind a kit is just to have fun. This video is fun to watch because you get to see another's creative process.
been following tosh since he was unknow on insta ..i new he would blow up and a few years later the kids huuge ...well deserved kids a freak on the kit
I liked the Hendrix , Mitch Mitchell style emulation. Maybe the older drummers played slightly behind the other instruments in groove timing as did british compared to american drummers who play more right on the beat. I hope to one day see some older drummers too, from the (late)50s through 70s era and some latin, afro and jazz genres.
I like the fancy stuff, but Travis Barker is it for me. Then I found Tosh! Fun to watch, and exciting to hear. Great stuff! Loving drumeo and the Deep Purple bit.
This is what I do every day. I just keep it to myself, because I assume people don't want to hear really busy stuff like that. But, I'm the definition of ADDHD kid, and I love just being loud, obnoxious, and way too busy. It's nice to see it's not completely hated.
The hate in these comments are ridiculous - you wanna watch a drummer on a YT drumming channel just play the simple beats? Man’s just having fun ripping it
I don't hate him. But his timing needs lots of work - he keeps getting way ahead of the beat in this video.

I really like the energy and electricity in this drummer. And he's outstanding in his arrangements.

A hip hop feel on the 16ths for Deep Purple was just so rad. Tosh is gonna transform the way modern drummers view music. Dude is just spectacular.
His drumming is so mesmerizing.
This guy is an incredible drummer and his energy is absolutely infectious if you ever get a chance to watch him do his thing live
4 on the floor to Zepplin really made me smile! Sounded like a dance song.
He looks 22 and 52 at the same time...

Let's just call it what it is, which is overplaying (both in terms of amount of notes/fills and heavy hitting).
That’s really respectful of you to criticize the musicality of the song but not the drummer’s talent. I respect it.
