Please do all in your power Drumeo staff to get Ian on! He is a living legend that deserves more focus on his innovative playing. No one swings/rocks harder. Having Ian on would make for a fantastic episode
@@hazardeur Fireball is the whole model for all your Overkill,Bomber, Call for The Priest Exciter, , Hounds Of Hell, Rip Ride, Black Metal, etc etc ...
So, for those who don't know the format: drummers come into Drumeo studio, and they are given a song they've "never" heard before. What the drummer hears is a track with the drums erased out of it, so they have to guess what the drum part would be. Can turn into some really interesting results, especially since they pick songs that are necessarily out of the drummer's wheelhouse (in order to find a song they don't have familiarity with). Kudos to Ian for the reaction video. Was fun to watch! :) Would be really cool if Drumeo could get some of your time. ;)
Also to some context, they don't produce (in any application of the word) or remix them either. So there's always going to be a distortion between the drums being done live and a recording done decades ago.(And given the nature of the channel, specifically having them be loud/on top)
Just a small correction: the drummers don't have to guess what the original drum work is, the objective is for them to come up with their own interpretation of the song.
@module79l28 Yeah, that's a more accurate statement. Though a lot seem to approach it like "how close can I get?" Even Tosh kind of says that throughout.
@FuturePast2019 Generally seems like up to 4 takes. Starts with a listen, where they actively listen and chart the song out, then they get "as many takes as they want." Don't think I've seen anyone go over 4, but I could be wrong.
As always, Mr. Paice is the gentleman, kind, humble and supportive. Full of encouragement wanting the best for each and every player he touches. He was like that with me personally too. God Bless you and your family Mr. Paice.
The greatest complement is when Ian says "oh I never though of doing that. That's cool!" That is probably one of the best things a musician can hear from an original composser.
The wife and I seen Deep Purple in 1985 at the Texas jam with our two boys ages 4 and 2. Didn't have enough for tickets so we sat outside in the grass listening to the show when someone walked by and said the gates were open. We grabbed the boys and went in and stood just a few yards from the stage and watched Deep Purple play 2 songs and 1 encore.
i saw them in '86 I think? perfect strangers? here in the uk.. i'm sure when they did smoke on the wafer as the encore, roger Glover and ritchie Blackmore swapped guitars! so ritchie was on bass and roger on the strat! ? did i imagine that??
I cherish the stick you threw to me at Asbury Park NJ first tour with Steve. At the end of the show I was in the first row and you looked right at me and I knew it was coming. You threw high and I leaped like never before and caught it! Thx so much we love you!!!!
What a big difference in performance, in a sense of rhythm, virtuosity, Ian Pace is one of the few drum kit performers to whom I bow low. Respect and long life. I was born in the former Soviet Union myself💯👍👌
I'LL ALSO ADD... With all the great drummers going by the wayside to substance abuse...We should all cherrish the time we get with one of the all-time greats who is still looking good, looking healthy and sounding absolutely fierce
As a musician I love drumeo's blind drum performances, the point is to get an "interpretation" and being different is expected. It shows how much difference drummer and how they interpret something makes. Also, that there are multiple as valid ways to see something as any other :) It's not about being "correct" it's about being yourself :)
I am not a drummer (guitarist) but I have to say that Ian is my favorite of 70s, he was so fast and his snare hit was so precise. Thank you for all the music!

This is the best part of this whole series is seeing the OG artist react to the interpretation by a young drummer. This song was so hardcore for it's time too. What a great reaction!
Yeah I’m gonna get hated for that comment but I really don’t think the halftime (or normal time if you consider the original double time) fits this song well.
@@vovahimself I really didnt like the take. Don't get me wrong, Tosh is an awesome drummer with huge chops, but i did not like nor the half time feel, nor the overly excesive movements (kind of distracting and unnecesary), or the excesive chops. Not a take for a song, more like a bit of showing off. Kudos though!
Strange to listen to with this style, especially without the speed of the bass in Glover's hands. Personally I didn't like it but no one can judge better than Mr.Paice!
Saw Deep Purple live for the first time when they came down to Bangalore last year. Blew me away. Fan for life now. Ian Paice is still an absolute powerhouse.

An extremely kind man and much more interested in real music than stardom. In my opinion - as well as Bruce Dickinson, Lars Ulrich and countless others - he is the best drummer of the 70s.
Yes i love the rhythm of Ian paise. The other one is a good drummer but damage the song with this kind of rhythm. It's damage the structure of the song i really don't like it
@@franzjosephamrein2663 Tosh's version does feel like it's dragging the song a little during the initial verse, be it from what he's actually playing or the drum mixing cutting out alot of the keyboard and bass (which is what really gives the song that fast driving feel with all the 16th notes). Either way though, even if it's not as good as the original it's still a really cool interpretation of the song, his fills are insane.
Used to listen to Purple all the time at school back in the early 70s. Still, frankly, an awesome band to get your ears around, Fireball and Made in Japan ( live) were my favourites.
