“Not emotionally strong enough to STOP the dance”. Thank you for putting this into words. I couldn’t wrap my brain around why.

well I dont depend on them for happiness or selfworth, its just that immense guilt when they have narc collaps and show their wounded child. To walk away is heartbreaking

Thank you so much for all your work. I am now aware what happened to me . After my new boundaries in 2022 I loosed 85% of my friends and family. But I am now in the beginning of my second life 😊

Wonderful work, I'm so glad young ones will have this available and heal their lives way sooner than not. I tried therapy many years ago and had not one, but multiple therapists say things like "Well you don't give to get" or other such shaming statements and blame such as "you teach people how to treat you" putting all the responsibility for my unhappiness in various relationships on my proposed selfishness and my inability to deserve respect. It's so great to have eye opening concepts widely available and not be limited to whatever therapist the hmo dragged in. Thank you.

I am 65. If I had this life to do again, I would stay out of relationships with others.

I don’t believe in psychologists as a good professional to consult. I rather instruct myself, so many therapists are quacks or don’t have time enough to update themselves continuously because the advances in this field is almost impossible to keep up with it.

I’m 73 years old. I have been suffering with SLDD since I was five years old when I suffered the worst, but not the first of my childhood traumas. I’ve been to count wants therapists. In the last few months, my “chickens have come home to roost” and manifested in health issues. Out of desperation, I’ve been searching podcast and came across Dr. Rosenberg. I think I may have finally found what will hopefully be a cure for what ails me.

What to do if e.g. your mother has narcissistic traits and an immense sld, your father overt narcissistic traits, your the only child and looked through it early in your life. Now, at about forty, your whole life seems to be on a constant flight from any dynamics that remind you of this horror dance ballroom. Trusting others and enjoying life instead of just surviving after experiencing that these dynamics seem to be everywhere and still romanticized to the utmost, is so hard.

Is it possible to be both? In one relationship the codependent, and in the other the narcissist?

Ross I had this epiphany I can't hold back... You should do a study on SLDD and those who claim to be true christians and how them being too reluctant/fearful to stand up for their beleifs hinder the universe as a whole... I could relate to this... I seem to have SLDD traits.

I don’t agree with the assumption that codependency in narcissistic relationships automatically stems from childhood trauma with narcissistic parents.
While I agree that familial narcissism would predispose some of us to narcissistic / codependent dynamics, I also feel that “codependency” patterns can happen for anyone in a relationship with a narcissistic person. Until you understand what you are dealing with.

dont forget the guilt that the saviour kind of codependent stays for. Narcs have deep abandonment wounds and they surface when codependents want to leave. If you are sensitve to the wounded child and belief them that they want to change, you are in problem. The pain of leaving them behind does not feel good to your heart and a covert narc will often drop deep when you function as their 'mother' selfsacrifise is natural when you see the narc as way more needy and damaged. Its just that we are in denial about that they actually dont want to become better, independent and drop selfdestructive and hurtfull traits. Its not just the terrror of not feeling they have the inner strength to not be selfish and honest, its that they also dont want to bc depending on, not pushing past learned helplessness and endulging in denial and pleassure at the cost of themselves and others is what they want. They are not ready. They abandon themselves

When I compare Pia Melody and Terry Real to this, is seems like the Codependent is love avoidant who gives everything and loses self, and the narcissist is a love addict is boundaryless and doesnt know how to take care of themselves

How lovely, a pyramid shaped scheme for getting to 'self love'. Of course, you must spend ample time reopening your wounds by watching Ross's brand of pseudoscientific word salad first, then purchase his expensive materials that will tell you nothing about how to get to the 'self-love' part.
