    Handy review, thanks Doc. A security focussed session would be good to see. Ta.
    It would also be interesting to hear what options spec you couldn’t live without if you were replacing your D5, as well as those which sounded great but are hardly used day to day in your current D5.

    Thanks really enjoyed this. Ended up buying an RRS and bought it direct from land rover so iv got the warranty and will be extending it. The other thing I went for is tyre insurance. As got 21" rims and tyres. On my last RR I bought I got the tyre protection as got a puncture as I pulled up on my street. Used it a further 3 times so that paid for itself. Did not go for the alloy protection as they will get scuffed up either way and plan on just getting them done when they start to bother me. Also did not go for the pain protection they offer.
    I would never buy a RR with out warranty. These cars are brilliant when they work falwlesy my old last one got me through some crazy situations and its that level of confidence that these cars give!
    For security.
    Pro elite steering wheel lock. As iv got a family that needs to get in and out plus I wanted something that wont be an issue putting on or storing in the foot well. I went with one of these. If you want better security go for the disklok. Also disabled keyless entry and use a farady pouch for the keys when at home. And don't keep the key lock key on the same keyring as your car keys :)
    Think ware u1000 camera as it's got cloud alerts.
    Extra battery to keep it powered when parked.
    A mobile hotspot with a 24gb sim from three valid for 2 years for 30ish quid.
    For tracking. Stick an apple airtag or a Samsung tracker somewhere on the car and your keys. Not as accurate as a dedicated GPS tracker mind you but good enough for peace of mind. Stick one of each and your covered. ;)

    Thanks Doc. I also have a Disco 5 HSE Luxury but with the 3 litre V6 and fuel consumption about the same as you. Agree with the extended warranty - I tend to keep mine for 5 years. Only issue so far with mine was a frayed cable somewhere under the rear axle that caused intermittent shutdown of systems but fixed under warranty otherwise a great vehicle. If you are ordering one stick with the 21" wheels. I had to replace a 22" Pirelli due to screw damage and that cost £300 for one tyre.

    Video full of information that we viewers want to hear, I was looking for the 2.0 engine in a D5 until i came across this video. The reason is I've had a D3 and RRS with the TDV6 and consider myself lucky to not have had any engine problems, they were both great vehicles with full SH. I see so many TDV6 engines wrecked with spun main bearings and crankshafts snapping in two. There is a common theme in most of these cases and it's poor maintenance and not changing the oil and filter when required. Also low mileage school run vehicles need careful consideration before laying large amounts of cash.

    • @josephjohnston1894
      @josephjohnston1894 2 роки тому +1

      The spun bearings and broken crankshafts is not down to oil changes as the majority of them have FSH. It's just a weak crankshaft and probably under too much strain for such a large car. Short runs aren't good for any diesel but they don't spin bearings and break crankshafts.

    Hi Doc, another great video, you are dead right getting extended warranty, I am in the process in getting one for my D4 , although it did came with extended warranty and Land Rover did some work with interference issue on Fm around 97mhz where as that canbus and engine noise breaking through (they couldn’t fix it ) only to find after that the warranty what not transferable between owners. As like yours the turbos can fail and on the D4 the body has to be removed to get at them so as you rightly said it’s very worth while getting extended warranty. My suspension pump failed I had to replace that. A service from Landrover for my car for the 15000m was £825 , I went to local garage had their gold device cost me £335 at that time .I be most interested to see how your local garage service pans out . Kind regards mark

    Really good and informative vid, been looking at the D5 SDV6 as a replacement for my D4 SDV6, I keep coming to same conclusion though and stick with the D4. As you have said the warranty is a good to have as peace of mind, I still purchase one each year with my car. You are also right in what you say about the car it does everything you could ever really need and that to me is why the Land Rovers are so good. Let us know how the trip to the specialist goes, I have kept servicing the car with the main dealers as “Full Land Rover Service History” seems to be looked at more favourably by most people when you come to sell or trade in/part ex, but you make a valid point regarding the specialist being possibly better overall? Could be something in that. Anyway keep the good vids coming always a good watch.

    LR D5 was as you describe my best ever but worst ever car I have owned. I really struggle to understand how the dealerships and JLR allow known faults or manufacturing mistakes to go without recall. They then leave the owner (not a rented or PCP) with all the grief. I had to literally return mine with known manufacturing faults yet take a hit on the value. Won’t purchase the brand again despite my longing for one.

    Hi Doc, with regards to servicing, when initially enquired to get a service from Lr I was told that the 3 year warranty could be not covered, if I went to a non Land Rover approved garage , according to Dean Dunham consumer rights barrister , the garage has to be vat registered and parts has to have Ce approved parts does not have to have Land Rover parts . This doesn’t effect the manufacturers warranty. Regards mark

    £800 for extended warranty is a bargain. Does that include breakdown and recovery? I assume you have a set of plates to swop over when the MOT is due as that configuration will never pass. @@thedoctorsgarage Great video Doc . I totally agree with what you said about LR reliability and extended warranty. The issues you talked about are also common with the RRS. I have a RRS that is similar age with your D5, 30k miles on the clock and the engine seized a few weeks ago. Something to do with a fatigued crankshaft. I have a third party warranty for about £500 and they are replacing the engine as we speak. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't have the warranty on my car. It's going to cost between £15k-20k to replace my engine. I think LR are also making a goodwill contribution of about 30% of total cost. But it is such a shame for a car that cost that much to be so unreliable. How can LR get away with such shady workmanship. Don't get me wrong I love my RRS, it is lovely to drive and looks great but it breaks my heart as well. It looks like third party warranties are getting better than the warranties offered by LR.
