      You can now expand step-by-step into Ballad style, Blues, Jazz, Ragtime, Improvisation and creating your own melodies. You will even learn how to read music AS you learn how to ‘play-by-ear’ and eventually you will be able to play some amazing Classical pieces. visit here 4LearnPianoEasy.blogspot.com

    • @pikasfed
      @pikasfed 7 років тому +17

      Debojit Acharjee Let's say you have a melody. Its mood it's determined by the rhythm and by the intervals yes, but what makes the 'face' of the melody are the chords. Because one note played at unisono with different chords can sound (and has to sound) completely differently. Also usually chords are used to keep the tempo: if a melody is too fast to follow, the chords will prevent you from being confused.
      Lastly chords are what makes a song recognizable and unic, and they are what is used to accompain sining (because your voice is the melody, that needs to be accompained, just like on the piano alone)
      To answer your other questions, there's no such a way to "find" the chords of a melody, if you know what the melody and the chords sound like together you can go by ear, but if you have no idea and you've only listened to the melody there is no way to find the "original chords", because you can find different chords to accompain the same melody.
      If you want to accompain singing a song that exists and that uses a piano you can listen for the piano, google the chords and try to imitate that piano using thecniques teached in this video, or you can experiment yourself with other methods developed with a similar approach.

      Arpeggios can or don't have to be based on chords. "rolling" the notes of a C Major chord, C - E - G in sequence IS an arpeggio, but it doesn't remove the fact that harmonically in a musical piece it is functioning as a C Major Chord, again, harmonically. As he did later, he based another arpeggio on a Major 7th chord, using chord tones to form that arpeggio.
      As to "why" we need chords, whether played as a chord or arpeggiated, a chord establishes a harmonic framework on which a melody sits. So, the first thing to know is that you can harmonize a melody in nearly infinite ways, with the results sounding very very different. In the case of a simple C Major arpeggiation, C - E - G, it becomes a stylistic choice when writing a piece of music which to use (chord or arpeggio), and in what particular rhythm to use either in.
      As far as "finding chords from any melody", you're not clear whether you mean from a an already written piece of music, or whether you have written a melody and want to harmonize it. The first case is easy, they are tons of tools that will reveal the chords from songs, such as Chordify.net which will do it for most UA-cam songs. If you meant the second case, that will involve a bit of study to learn how to harmonize a melody. It starts with knowing what key or keys your melody falls into, begins with possibly using diatonic chords from that key to see how selecting from them will make the melody sound, and can move into more advanced harmonic concepts like chord substitutions and secondary dominants to "temporarily" change key... The good new is there are LOTs of videos on UA-cam teaching everything from basic approaches to more advanced ones. Try searching for "harmonizing a melody".
      You should also be able to find a good number of videos on how to back a singer. Knowing the chords in the applicable key for the song is a start, and then knowing how to play them in myriad inversions to get smoother transitions, and then having as many "tools" in your arsenal to pick from (such as arpeggios shown here) will give you options to choose from as to which might sound better depending on the type of song. As part of your education, watch videos in the style of music you're interested in here to see how they back the singer at the keyboard.

    Your gift in teaching is so apparent. I have struggled for years to understand the structure and relationship of chord progression and inversions. Your method of teaching simplifies what can be so difficult in working to become fluent in the piano. Adding arpeggiation is simply the icing on the cake. Thank you so much for your kind efforts.

    Outstanding. For those that don't want to develop the hand coordination, or don't have a keyboard, yet want to integrate this into their music they are writing with a DAW like Protools, Sonar, etc. , they can consider one of the many ARPEGGIATOR VST tools that are free or low cost. I'm currently comparing them and like Kirnu Cream the best so far, although still looking at others... But like videos like this because they provide ideas for constructing arpeggios, which you can use either learning to play them, or, in a tool that can play them for you in your DAW...
    What I like about Kirnu Cream is that you define a scale of notes, and then can create the arpeggios from that scale. I'm interested in using that ability to explore arpeggios in various MODES, so for example, to build some arpeggios in Dorian mode for songwriting, without spending the time to learn them in my hands initially, though may afterwards...
    Just food for thought.

A beginner can never sound so good as you, since he must learn to let the melody come out of the right hand by playing softer on the left, but this is a very helpful video. Soon, the viewer will want to try this in other scales, with other melodies (or same). I plac ethis one in my favorites.

    I love this so much! But instrument playing has always been so discouraging and sometimes painful with my small hands. Do you have any suggestions in general and how to make this exercise easier?

    hi there.. I learn piano by myself and never take any formal classes or courses. I never have confidence with my arpeggio because I always think, "I am not a pro."
    But hey... when I watch this video, I see YOU PLAY EXACTLY THE SAME PATTERN WITH WHAT I ALWAYS PLAY!! (well, at least the first 4 patterns, and thank you for 2 bonus patterns). Now I got back my confidence in playing piano :)
    Thank you man...
