- This year could've started better for Tales fans. Let's talk about the frankly stupid decision Namco has made in regards to the series' preservation and how it could possibly impact the series' future.

The reason of this is for them to sell again. That's why physicals is a must.
Tales of Eternia directors cut should be made tho.
They rereleased Symphonia for the fourth time.
And Rebirth was still never released in Europe.
the weird thing about this is that while its a hard blow for the west, in japan it wont even be noticeable, over there you can literally walk to a retro game store and you CAN find old copies of tales games for any console (super famicom, ps1, ps2, ps3, DS, psp, vita, etc) and for an accessible price too, physical copies in japan are generally returned to stores and re-sold over for generations, last time i went to osaka and akihabara i found jewels like Eternia, Destiny R directors cut, innocence vita, and narikiri dungeon X in their original state (and for low prices!) unlike the rest of the world where physical copies are overpriced mythical treasures, we are forced to rely on digital copies to play the very few games that have been localized over here, its sad, but i can tell namco wont even notice.
This is why physical is a must. Thank goodness I still have them

Tbh, I’m truly hoping they remaster the older games. I got Zesteria, Berseria, Abyss, Vesperia, Arise, and recently Symphonia (I don’t care if it’s a meh port, never got to play it before). Regardless, I’m pretty green to this series, and I would LOVE to play the older Tales games. I’d pay for a remaster of Graces, Hearts, a Xillia bundle, and some of the older 2D games. Tbh tho I’m more interested in the 3D titles but the 2D titles look interesting. Heck, I’d play Tales of The World. I try to be as optimistic as I can. Tales has become my favorite JRPG series ever, and I hope these older games see new light.

Ironically they've remade/remastered Phantasia so many times and the best we got was the GBA version. I've missed out on the PS3 era of Tales games which is why I was so happy that they decided to release Vesperia on the PC and with some PSP/Vita games making the jump to PC, I was hoping we could've also gotten the Radiant Mythology games. But all we got after that was years of silence then Arise
I played the GBA version not only are the battles slow as hell its has a really CRAPPY English translation.

Reminder that you can emulate the PS3 titles just fin via RPCS3. ^^
That too but on the PSP version you can't really spam Demon Fang on Pluto at all since its not a solo target boss fight then.
Fanbase is kinda keeping it alive with mods and fantranslations in the west but it really sucks to work on these things and not see Bamco putting in a fraction of the effort.
So many decisions they make just dont make sense like why not sell the ip to another company after the success of Arise if you dont wanna make more games or outsource the older games for remasters like Square did with SO2. I know the series wont ever have the profit of a low budget DBZ or Naruto game but like probably more than some of the other recent remasters.
It sucks but since 1 of the manga artists passed away at a EVEN younger age the Toriyama at age 63 I don't blame namco/bandai for doing so due to her death but that also means that Destiny 1 Destiny 2 Eternia Legendia and Rebirth are NOT likely to get PS4/PS5/Switch ports.
As a guy who only played both Berseria and Arise, I don’t think that Arise killed the franchise, more like caused a split between the fandom. I personally enjoyed the stories, gameplay and characters of both games. I do think that maybe a new Tales of Game will live up to the sales success of Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Persona. As for the ports of the other Tales of games, I think that Abyss and Xillia will get ports someday. Not so sure about Zesteria and Grace due to how a lot of fans didn’t like those games.
I think that this is the same problem that the Star Ocean series had prior to the HD2D remakes/remasters. The Star Ocean 3D series and Tales series gameplay are literally the same. With the success of Star Ocean 2 R I don’t think SE will ever make another 3D Star Ocean ever again though.
I'm honestly okay with that, 2D isn't so bad, the only 3D Star Ocean I liked was Till the End of Time (even with the questionable plot twist).

and I’ve always been salty that Tales of Symphonia gets re-ported CONSTANTLY!! yet Abyss has PS2 and a 3DS port, how comes Abyss never got the HD re release or remake since everyone loves a remake these days

TOS has one of the best story of Tales series, this game has very good explanation of what discrimination is

For me though, the narrative copied heavily from the FF X pilgrimage storyline prior to TOS release. The graphics (while holding up decently well due to cel shading) are showing its age now. The combat is just not as good as Tales of the Abyss especially when you are still on the 2D plain in that game with no free roaming for the TOS 3D models.
Seems like a lot of people hold Symphonia in such high regard is due to nostalgia for the west, being most likely their first Tales of experience but TOS has a lesser combat and story compared to Abyss, looks wise Vesperia is still the best looking Tales game, and for the 2D sprite and 2D plain combat it’s Destiny Remake Directors Cut all day.
Tales of Symphonia has had a GameCube, PS2, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox, PC port. I understand Symphonia’s popularity but Abyss is overdue for a re-release
@@artminusme Not sure which part of the story copied from FF X, there is a big difference in the focus of the story
Story of FF X is all about(almost) Yuna, how beautiful, strong and how many difficulties she has to face, almost every plots of this game is mean to create a romantic feel at the end of the story. Every characters of this game is like a NPC except of Yuna and Auron.
TOS is different, it is a story of every major party members and the "villain", they put a lot of efforts to describe your team members and the villain. It is a story of people with different view points of discrimination, a struggle between different forces over the issue of discrimination
@@artminusme I do think TOA is better than TOS, especially the battle system. Both of them have great story though. Another tales game has great story is TOB
I thought about making a long ass video about how the Tales franchise is so fumbled, It coulda easily been apart of a Fantastic 4 if Namco was proactive on riding Symphonia's success and just making these games accessible on Nintendo/Sony consoles(Seriously? Vesperia on 360 first was crazy and Abyss not on Gamecube is even crazier). I thought the future of the franchise after seeing Arise do so well would lead to these older beloved games such as Abyss, Destiny DC and even Destiny 2 would finally make it over to the West and be on the Switch. but no seems like Namco is really focused on anime game slop and putting LMBS into "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" :( I know it's not the same team but damn it hurts.
I'm lucky that I own quite literally every single mainline Tales game physically but damn I want people to experience these other great games.
It's a tradegy that Tales of Graces F has not gotten any more love. Piracy it is I suppose.
One of the best action rpg's I've ever played, I have no idea why they haven't brought the battle system back.

Tales Game that I played are Destiny, Eternia, Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Innocence R, Xillia, Berseria and Arise.
Missed Tales Series and Arise DLC is pretty mediocre TBH

I still have physical copies of some of these games especially the Ps3 ones, but man I want tales of abyss on modern systems.
What Tales need is their Persona 5 moment (which i thought they would had with ToA) they need to reinvent the wheel go all out with graphics and gameplay and for the love of god A REALLY NEW story that isnt the same rehash from other Tales games

@@suiken3149Beseria was fantastic though, one of the best Tales games they ever made. Now if only they could replicate that and do a better battle system,it's sad to see the direction they went in after that banger of an entry.
Honestly, if they can maintain the graphics but keep it stylish like the Persona games... I actually like the artwork/style of Tales games, they just need to make better stories, the fact that quite a few of the games are hit and miss is probably one of the things holding the series back.
Tales of destiny 2 is getting a english patch, that the only good news i heard about a tales of game in a long time.

At this point, yes, it will survive. In fact, the Star Ocean series is in a much better position now than it was back when the fifth game came out.
To be honest, I only clicked on this video because I read the title too fast and thought it was about the Trails games.
It's time to move up my brother, as someone who also grew up with niche IPs like Tales, Namco found other cash cow IPs. Even though we got the G.U. series back, the infection series is only available through emulation.
So even just banking on remasters won't work because outside of ToS, ToX, and now arise most of the other Tales titles are like the niche of the already niche Tales series.
And if you really look at it, Tales has been here FOR AWHILE, but they have always been niche. They made their mark on the action JRPG genre, and they should be celebrated. Wouls you rather they have an amazing legacy or live long enough to become a mo.....oh wait, they did do mobile games.

I know I'm way late, but this makes me thankful that I asked my parents to get me a disk of Xillia 2 when they go back to the US. My PS3 is NA, and it is cheaper in the US than the UK anyway. This helps me want to quit console and move over to PC.

Honestly surprised we don't have more games on Steam, we even have Symphinia, but not Dawn of the New World (they already did a remaster of Symphonia).

I loved the old school tales games, not a fan of the newer entries. It sucks the ps1 and ps2 games are not available even if it was just digitally.
I really want to play ToXillia 1 and 2 and of the Abyss, there isnt anything left on Pc anymore..... And Iam already replaying Zestiria, but now Iam at the Stupit water dungeon again. (its actually insane how much better that game would be if the water dungeon wasnt in it) aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa maybe I just replay Berseria ig xd
Yeah I’ve been scrambling to figure out the Anbernic consoles and download the roms.
I got Destiny 1 and 2. Wish the Anbernic I have played PS2 so I could get Destiny 1R.
So far I’m liking Destiny 1. I need to find roms for the Tales NDS games so I can load it on a cartridge for my NDS.

Tales of Arise didn't kill the Tales series. It's Bandai Namco's terrible management of the IP.
Tales of Arise caused more of a split amongst the fandom on those who like it and those who don’t like it. I only played Tales of Berseria and Tales of Arise and I think that they’re both good games.
If only it was easy to emulate games for me. If there's no official store version of the game I literally can't play it.

Tales just doesn't bring anything new to the table. Can't take over dragon quest, doesn't hold a candle to ff nostalgia, characters outshined by persona or smt in general. There's no defining nature to tales. Why play xillia (my favorite tales), symphonia, zesteria etc when other games do it better.
I disagree. There is a market gap for strong fantasy games with active combat because all the big franchises went to modern settings and there's only so many times you can take a game being in Tokyo. Why do you think Atlus is jumping into that niche? Even Final Fantasy went back there with 16.
The problem is that instead of playing into it's strengths, Tales has been half-assing it for a long time and gambling money on mobile games instead of properly developing their franchise.
Persona in PS2 era was Persona 3 and 4. It wasn't until late PS4 era that Persona 5 came out, but by taking their time they made sure to make a smash hit.
Imagine if they had actually taken their time with Crestoria and developed it as a console game with proper action combat. That would have been a hit.
But the action combat has also not evolved. FF ditched instance-based combat with FF15, Xenoblade ditched it too, but Tales is still stuck in that era.
The last good Tales was Beseria, if only they could keep making stories that good, then they could have a consistent winning formula.
The games just tend to be more hit and miss than anything.
who cares the last good one was vesperia after that they all just felt less and less like takes of games. symphonia has had 3 ports 4 if you count the ps2 one and they all ran at 30 fps but some how the gamecube which is INFERIOR HARDWARE managed to run that game at 60 F namco they cant make good games anymore
