Being a Tales fan is suffering.
And rest in peace to Mutsumi Inomata, who passed away last month. She designed a massive chunk of the series' characters. :(
Indeed. Time to switch over to the Trails games, they won't disappoint you or leave you hanging
@@ItsATMDrumseverything after crossbell is fanservice garbage
@@ItsATMDrumsexcept it has a completely different battle system and requires you to play like 12 different games to catch up
@@DigitalStarry That description reminds me of the Xeno series.
Try being a Dragon Quest fan in the west, that's real suffering. We still don't have 10 officially localized.
I distinctly remember Harada, director of the Tekken series, making a tweet about being fed up with Bamco having, apparently, a revolving door of executives who's only concerns were maximizing profits and advancing their careers.
which is ironic considering how much bamco clearly hates money given how they treat their most successful IPs lol
@@canariawingAlso how they treat their older IPs too.
@@canariawing Revolving doors of executives tend to end up paradoxically acting like they hate money, for some reason...
@@canariawing They (revolving executives) aren't looking for multiple IPs with a decent loyal fanbase, they're looking for that 1 or 2 huge cash cows that can print them infinite money all the time on a wide scale from ''whales'' (their real terminology they actually teach to eachother on official courses), which they tried again now with a Genshin Impact clone but it bombed hard. Still doesn't stop them to chase this, it just makes them drop even less attention on other IPs.
@@islandboy9381speaking of which they used to making gundam games which doesn’t haven’t international released to not making anymore gundam games besides gundam vs series.
It's baffling to think there wasn't a single original title for the Switch, the most popular platform uh Japan, this generation. Remember how many titles they put out in the DS/PSP era? Yes we didn't get most of them but still. What happened to those studios ? Probably moves to those now dead mobile games... Whoppeeee....
They probably did.
Bandai Namco tried two times to make an big smartphone Tales games. That's why they ignored the Switch since they were thinking at getting way more money with gacha. Good thing they failed.
@@theLikou1 A real shame that they wasted so much resources on those gacha games. I honestly thought some of those character designs would had been very good for protagonists in a legit main line console Tales game entry. Also needed to get a real writer to complement that, of course
They should have made a radiant mythology 4 for america and Japan.
They now have a studio for dedicated Nintendo development, I’d like to hope said studio could make Nintendo exclusive Tales games one day.
Mutsumi Inomata's character designs for the titles she designed for are so iconic and colorful and fun and her art is so gorgeous, it's heartbreaking to see Bamco letting her legacy rot like this.
It's horrible timing for sure. Can only hope they're close to making them more available like they tell us they would in interviews, but the communication isn't the best. I would've had an announcement made prior at least.
It hurts my soul to see legacy of tales slowly being erased because Namco hasn’t rereleased anything on steam/ modern consoles outside of a verspira and symphonia or the last few mainline games
Graces and Xillia need to be ported to PC and current gen consoles
So do Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Destiny and Eternia, but no one cares about thooooose....
@@BenjamillionI care. I care so much.
I want Tales of Xillia 2 port. One of my absolute faves.
@@BenjamillionI mean... I wouldn't mind trying it
Skip the consoles. Because what's happening with PS3 now, will happen with the PS4 within a couple years, and the PS5 a couple years after that. Only the PC remains without generations. Outside of Pre-Win7 days, every game made will continue to run on PC, and even some games, there are work-arounds to get them to run on modern systems.
I'm getting really disheartened with the Tales series and Namco. They practice some lame business decisions. Symphonia's recent release is plain SAD...
Yes, that release was my game disappointment of the year, sjees.
@@MimouFirst yeah. I feel the same. I bought it on Switch after those patches came out, but it still feels a mediocre port...
Wild that the PS3 version from over a decade ago is still better, I'm glad I have a copy but seriously it's stupid how lackluster the recent port is
@@Alorso_ right?! I've played both Chronicles and Steam versions and with each rerelease, the quality dips...
The Arise DLC story was so bad and pointless too.
I love the Tales series and Symphonia on the Gamecube is THE game that got me in to JRPGs. I am actually playing a fan translation of Tales of Innocence on DS right now. My favorite is either Symphonia or Berseria.
pls play Innocence R nstead. It's thousand times better with a lot of changes
Tales of Symphonia on GameCube was also my introduction to the series 🥹
Innocence R is now fantranslated.
you gotta need a Vita emulator or a jailbreaker vita tho
Where’s my Abyss re-release Bamco
3DS
A rerelease would be amazing!
3DS and it’s amazing.
@@Lock2002ful I have both the 3DS and and PS2 versions. But obviously both are no longer supported and it’s a fan favorite game, that’s in desperate need of a current gen port
I played on 3ds, now I want to play it again in HD on the Switch.
This makes me happy that I have them all physical. I'm still eagerly awaiting the next Tales of... game!
My favourite video game series. There is so much potential in rereleases alone. And then there's Bandai Namco who just does nothing with it.
Bandai Namco just tends to treat its western audience poorly too, look at what they're doing with Digimon
@@Muriuki34 Did they do something besides taking og Cybersleuth off digital stores?
@@projectmessiah In terms of recent stuff, aside from Digimon Survive on Switch and PS4, I honestly don't know?
@@nine_tails137 @projectmessiah that's the thing. There is nothing to know. Survive was supposed to be an appetizer for the next big title, but it went through development hell itself and was delayed several years, and we've only gotten at most 2 separate "updates" regarding the next story title. Updates is a generous word, they've only said "yeah, we're still working on it".
@@braklinath Yeah, that's pretty much the impression I got since Survive's release. That being Bandai Namco being silent about any future titles. I want Digimon games to do well in the west, which is why I bought the recent titles to show my support. But all we've gotten so far is All-Star Rumble on PS3, Next Order, Cyber Sleuth, Hackers Memory, and Survive.(at least those are the recent titles I remember?)
See guys? Jon isn't the only person that makes good videos in this channel. You can complain about other people opinions, but going to hate the person behind it is wrong.
My god people made me so mad under Jon’s video yesterday. Literally insulting his friends while praising him. Like, do they think he’ll be flattered by that?
I think people tend to misunderstand that the "Good Vibes" is a title, not necessarily an expectation.
The recent Xenosaga collab for the mobile game makes more sense now. The series is joining Xenosaga as a series destined to not be available for download.
Can Nintendo buy both franchises ? I know it would be annoying for Tales to be nintendo exclusive for many, but I’m sure the series will be in a better state of preservation than with Bamco who’s notorious for being terrible at that (even older Tekken games are unavailable on modern hardware)
@@sollato0293 As much as I love Nintendo they arent exactly great game preservers themselves outside of their occasional remasters.
@@sollato0293 Bamco did look into remastering all 3 Xeno games but determined that it would be too expensive, honestly Nintendo buying the IP would make the most sense but not sure if they would rerelease them either
@@sollato0293 Why? There's kind of no need for Saga, now that Blade is succeeding. Relatively in comparison. The only good thing would be using the characters, and that would be it. Remastering or remaking those games would be a waste.
@@byronlyons3548Banten Kaitos got remasters recently on Switch, and IMO I feel Nintendo should buy all the old IPs Monolith Soft worked on before they bought them in order to just help bolster dev morale because they’ll have all their creations under one roof. Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos are still with Bandai Namco and Square still has Xenogears. At the very least I want Nintendo to get the rights to Saga and Gears so the entire “Xeno series” is under one company and maybe Monolith could remake the older games and turn the whole thing into a connected universe of some kind.
I would attend a college course on the Tales series taught by Dan.
Being a fan of any Namco series is crushing, I wish they would respect their games like they deserve. Tales has always been my favourite franchise and it feels like they gave up right when JRPGs started to become successful again. At least The Legend of Heroes has blossomed in its place and eventually filled the hole in my heart that Tales left behind
Yeah, I recently played Trails in the sky and really liked it, are the modern games any good?
@@creeperizak8971 Yes, they are all really good except one in the series being a little iffy.
@@creeperizak8971 even better imo. I started with Trails in the Sky and loved them, went on to enjoy the Cold Steel / Crossbell games even more
Dude thank you for the call out to legendia. That soundtrack was pure gold and I loved the hell out of that game! This is a game that needs a full remaster just so it can be playable in the way it deserves to be. It'd probably be a huge money sink and terrible for them profit wise because this game isn't popular enough, but it'd be so nice to have for the OST alone. Plus poor Moses could actually hit something if it got a full overhaul.
Also, I love Abyss. It's a game you have to play at least twice to truly see the MC as he is. He is the "hated" MC on your first play through. It's the second one that shows you just how much of his true growth and personality is there all along. Abyss needs more love. ❤
I recommand a lot to follow "Life Bottle Production". It's a Tales of fan group who are doing more than Bandai Namco for this game series. They have done the recent Tales of Destiny (PS2 English patch translation) and Innocence R English patch translation. They also done HD texture pack for Abyss, Hearts R and Legendia. Now they are working on the Rebirth English patch translation. 😁
God bless the fan community
@@Alorso_ yeah. 😁
Loved innocence r
Are they still working on tales of destiny 2
i hope they translate the hearts but the DS version
Its a shame that Tales of the Rays failed in the west because its still going strong in Japan and in my opinion its the perfect Tales game for mobile. It plays like a Tales game (you can check out combo videos on my channel or just watch gameplay on YT) and it does a fantastic job of bringing in all the characters as it has almost every notable Tales character you can think of with every single playable character from every game, most of the villains like Mithos, Van, Artorius, to even lesser known ones like Creed and Mathias to also having other mobile and spinoff games like Link, Crestoria and World Mythology available. Its super free to play friendly, just about every character is viable, tons of costumes, and just celebrated seven years of service.
The biggest reason why Crestoria flopped was all the bugs and glitches plus coming out just before Genshin Impact and the bar for mobile games going up and Luminaria failed because it was a Tales game in name only and a very unprofitable monetization. But the other problem is it just can’t compete with what Rays offers in Japan and how many mobile games are basically becoming triple AAA games on your phone. They’d have to bring something out as high quality as Persona 5X to compete.
In any case I suspect Bamco just doesn’t care because the games don’t bring in nearly as much money as their other properties like Elden Ring, Dragonball and Sword Art Online. And while it sucks, emulation is always available. When I got into the series through Abyss 3DS and the Vesperia remaster, I just emulated all the other games that weren’t on Steam or modern consoles besides Symphonia (had a working Wii). Yes its less than ideal but Bamco clearly doesn’t care and all the games work wonderfully on emulation.
Though from what I've heard recently there are worries that Rays in Japan might be nearing EoS itself, as they apparently missed doing anything for several anniversaries and also did not do anything for April Fool's when they did in prior years?
Mobile games are as good as releasing no games at all.
@@RuiTsuki that a shame
Luminaria was plenty of Tales imo, once the story got rolling. but it really did have shit monetization, was handle so poorly with draining repetitive co-op combat and terrible timing with it's release, which was just around the time they pulled the plug for Crestoria.
The advertisments tried to make it sound closer to Genshin with exploration, they should focus on the character dynamics and story more😞
I think there was day 1 bugs in Crestoria that never got fixed? To a point where I think Crestoria would had ended much earlier if not for legacy characters. I also joked about writing feedback to send a signal if they are a team of 3 people locked up to work on the and needed help.
Bamco just handle their games so poorly, it's sad to see
@@fishybishiebish4895 Lumi had interesting ideas/concepts but some of the worst execution I have seen in awhile. Not sure what they were thinking with the raid boss system.
Honestly considering how important Tales Of is to Bandai Namco, I cant believe I won the remake lottery with Baten Kaitos Remastered, a game so few people got to experience and now I have it available with me on the go. Genuinely hope theres good news for Tales Of in the future, the fans definitely deserve it.
is it important to them though? perhaps in Japan. i still remember when the first game come out as an answer to FF and DQ. a time when every game company needed an rpg series.
@@goncaloferreira6429 I guess important as in it's their own IP? I think Tales is like Namco's own RPG IP who are still getting new games.
Another reason why piracy is necessary, the good thing here is that these games and the DLC are pretty much preserved thankfully so you can still play them on modded systems
(actually most of the DLC is not preserved! Only a few bits here and there are. )
The way Bandai Namco treats fans of this series is like having an Evil Stepmother on steroids.
honestly the way Bandai treats a lot of their series is just quite sad..
Bandai treats Tales Series is just as Bad as Square Enix treat Final Fantasy
@@joejunior5991 I'd argue it's worse. At least SE releases a majority of FF games in the US nowadays.
@@Mnemoniforma9.00 SE too much milking FF7 and Kingdom Hearts while treats other FF like 13, 14 Pre Reboot, 15 and 16 very badly
@@joejunior5991 That's true.
I want to see a sequel to tales of zesteria, with sorey and mikleo finding an old temple dedicated to the first lord of calamity and the first shepherd. In doing so, they unleash this lord of calamity back upon the world…only, she’s not really evil. Yes, this is an excuse to bring back velvet, just because the idea of her and sorey is such an interesting dynamic. Bring back the other seraphim too. Because zavead and edna could have very interesting interactions with her. Whats lailahs connection maotelus, who she knows is laphicet. God, there’s so many amazing ideas to be done!
Man i thought the same thing, Zestiria and Berseria have such an amazing world that we could have a bunch more games in it, i would love a game telling Rose's story as a Shepard, and a game set in the future, like you said.
Saaame. Never make two games in the same world unless you're willing to commit to a trilogy, folks. I think I even remember an interview around Arise's announcement where they mentioned fans wanted a third entry in that world...which is only more frustrating!
@@TheWorstPartyMember Really? Man, such wasted potential.
It's really not an exaggeration at all to say that I wouldn't be the person that I am today without Tales of the Abyss. I was 16 when it released and it really set a lot in motion for both my future view of the world and what I expect out of a story in order for me to enjoy it. The list of things that I wouldn't give to see it reach another generation and show them the things that I saw when I was their age is a very, very short list.
Yeah, I found Abyss by watching one of those "hidden gems on the 3DS" videos that I watched because I noticed Game Stop had stopped carrying 3DS games.
@@creeperizak8971same. I bought it randomly when I was 12. I think I wanted a Mario game or something, but they didn't have it.
Luckily, fate made it so that this game was there. So my parents bought it for me since there was no other interesting game.
I think I played this game 4 times. I don't think in my life I have seen a story captivating. I also think this when I got into more jrpg games
It's ironic the developers spoke about changing the art style of Arise to be more "threatening" in order to appeal more to male players just as we were entering an era where cute art styles like those in Genshin are absolutely thriving.
they’re behind with the times
Its like women are an untapped market XD
It's an "Angry Kirby on Western box art" situation. Animal Crossing sold countless millions. We do like cute things. What are these companies smoking?
@@seriouskano2 Reminds me of when Pokemon was first being brought over to the west, the localizers were all saying the games wouldn't sell because they were too cute looking, Nintendo didn't listen and released them anyway
I prefer the arise art style tho
My entire life as a Tales fan since 2003 has been like this. A lot of ups and a LOOOT of downs... Games still not being released on modern platforms or in the west at all? The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Finally discussing a series I love ❤️
I need Graces F, Xillia Collection and Tales of Vs.
You're not a real Tales of fan if you haven't been dissapointed while confused at the same time
I'm not an Tales fan at all and even I feel sorry for the fans that do.
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World was my favorite RPG on the Wii.
It had issues especially Legacy Cast being level locked, but I really like DotNW.
Emil’s aerial gameplay was great!
Psst, Versperia and Berseria are also on PS3. 8 games in total.
I just went into the EU PS Store to notice that the PS3 digital releases of the Tales of games are gone only the DLC for Tales of Zestiria on PS3 are still available. That sucks because I wanted to get all of the costumes for Tales of Graces F.
Least I have all of the physical releases of the Tales of games, they will always be preserved and remain with me.
At least until the discs start rotting.
@@abzer0gaming I'll make sure the discs are clean and the carts are dust free.
That won't be a problem in a single lifetime.
Loving my physical library right now! So I own all of the Tales games already, Physically!
I will never understand how Bamco did not capitalize on Tales of Arise's success in 2021, only to release story DLC 3 to 4 years later to a completely different gaming environment and expecting similar success.
They even pissed off Tekken fans earlier this month ontop of pissing off Tales fans with this.
It really feels like Bamco's passion for games is just straight up gone. If they can't keep a constant cash flow going with something, they'll drop it like a rock.
"I will never understand how Bamco did not capitalize on Tales of Arise's success in 2021," THIS. Bad business practices all around.
Emulation and fan translations. 'Nuff said.
I still wish there were Radiant Mythology proper translations. :(
@@Doomerang01I'm still surprised that nobody seems to want to do it. If anyone knows how to translate games, then it should be easy.
I don't play PC games and fan translations for Destiny 1 PS2 Destiny 2 PS2 don't actually WORK for the actual PS2 discs/console ITSELF.
Still waiting on a complete translation of Hearts DS since I disliked R's official localization. (Who thought "Kor Meteor was better sounding than "Shing"?) The last time I've heard of said effort, the guy never finished it and spent more time whining about stuff on his blog.
Hopefully the next group or person who works on it, will actually finish it instead of wasting everyone's time.
@GalaxiaSword
The type of person who thought a sound effect name was stupid in this case.
And then proceeded to throw in something that was weird but not too far off from Hearts’s naming convention.
What really hurts about the delisting of Tales of Hearts R is the physical copy is pretty expensive.
I got almost painfully lucky nabbing myself a cart off Picclick.
Cost me a little under retail price.
Your voice makes this devastating news easier to deal with😢
Thanks for that🖤
I don't even like the tales series but your love for the series is really contagious and as a fan of some other niche games I understand your frustration
Same here. I never cared about the series. But even I feel bad for them.
"Fun" fact: Tales of the Abyss' PS2 version wasn't even released here in Europe for whatever reason. We only got the 3DS port.
Yeah that's why it was a huge deal for fans.
Symphonia on Gamecube is still the best version of the game.
Considering Namco's President said they need to focus on quality (many years too late), I'd expect them release some quick ports of these games sometime soon.
Yeah, my coworker said i should play it, but i was not willing to pay 40 bucks for the worst version of the game. I saw even the special ediiton for 20 often and didn't feel like grabbing it.
Just don't wan't to support shit like that
@@Jrpg_guyYeah, there are reasons that it isn't better, but if they weren't willing to make a definitive release (like Vesperia), it wasn't worth bothering.
The Steam version is at least cheaper than the most recent remaster (and more stable from what I understand), but if you're willing to, emulating it is probably the best option (if you don't mind missing the extra content).
From what I hear, that seems to be the case... Though I'm not as fond of that opening to be honest.
Phantasia GBA isn't the only version we got. We also got the iOS port. I mean, I'm not surprised you forgot the iOS port existed, cause it deserves to be forgotten, but still...
Tales of Symphonia on the GC remains one of my favorite RPGs, right up there with The Last Story and Golden Sun/Lost Age.
I really wish that Bandai Namco could have an archive of every series available. Especially for their rpg legacy series. No matter the platform. Being able to give their fanbase access to every title past and present would be fantastic, and worthwhile
This kind of stuff is why i make sure to keep a backup console of every console for modding, so i can have an "ultimate" console with everything i have had for the console backed up to it.
One can only hope that Bamco will do something with Tales next year
I'm really glad I just recently got into the Kiseki series of games and that franchise is thriving with more games to come, I feel really bad with all the Tales of fans and Namco in general getting shafted with everything that is happening. Hope good fortunate comes your way brothers.
Man, shoutouts to Legendia. It's incredibly rough in the beginning, but it gets so good! The story feels so personal to the characters.
I love Legendia's story. Shame about the battle system though.
Imagine we had a Phantasia or Eternia remake in the style of Star Ocean 2nd Story R man. The potential being wasted with this series is sad. It deserves better
I'm sad they don't release tales title more often, :c
I check every week for news about tales.
Cries in Tales of Eternia (Tales of Destiny II)
I like that you're about the only English speaker I've ever heard pronounce "Xillia" as intended.
I've been a fan of the series since the very first game for SFC, and I used to buy the games again when they came out in English, just to try and help support the series for my friends who don't know Japanese. I always wanted us to be in the same boat when it came to new releases, but...not by Namco just not seeming to make any for anyone anymore.
Maybe I'm too much of an optimist, but my hope is that these delistings are just a prelude to further remasters/ports. They did state their intention to do more of them, and I think they've learned the hard lesson from Symphonia that putting out low-effort, janky ports just won't cut it. But that being said, I do share your concerns about the series and it's preservation/availability on modern platforms. Who would've ever thought that Star Ocean would end up in a better state than the Tales series? All 6 mainline Star Ocean titles are finally available again on modern PlayStation systems worldwide. It's madness.
The Tales of series has always been very influential to me. It makes me want to create my own story and characters. Abyss/Vesperia/Hearts R/Xillia is my favorite type of battle system.
Eternia was my very first Tales games, before Symphonia existed.
I will never understand why Bandai Namco didn't re-release the two Tales of Symphonia games together on modern platforms.
For real. They did it on PS3 and then just forgot about it.
I had no idea the Tales franchise was still so big in Japan, Tales of Festival looks like so much fun!!
My guy with the best take, tales of the abyss is peak
Here i'm just hoping for another tales of the world spin-off series. The last one we got was Reve Unitia on 3DS. Don't get me wrong, I collected all physical copy of the main series, but I also want more for the spin-off.
Felt nice to talk about games like Xillia 2, Legendia and Phantasia in a meaningful capacity. Wonder if I should make a video going in-depth on a specific game in the series…?
I'm still waitin' on Tales of Destiny 2 and Rebirth to get some kind of localization... let alone any kind of re-release combo pack of any of the ones that didn't get one.
Right? I thought they said they would release more at one point, yet all we've gotten is a shittier rerelease of Symphonia than the one we already got 🥲🥲
I really hope they do a whole "Tales" collection because there's ton of games in the series I think need a modern re-release or remaster or remake idc how it happens, there's just a lot of the series I've yet to play and it's because the old ones are locked to consoles I don't have or they get delisted or they're Japan exclusive.
This is Namco, it won't happen.
Another sad thing is that the people directly involved with Tales definitely know of the western fans. There was a popularity poll a few years back that asked for the most beloved games and separated between answers from Japan and overseas and when they saw the massive difference between the two when it came to Destiny (which is btw stuck on the PS1 in the West), the hosts remarked how they would love to show people why Destiny is so beloved in Japan.
They also had a character popularity poll and Lloyd made it pretty far in it. The hosts even commented on how a big chunk of the votes for him were from the west.
But all that doesn't do much when the higher-ups at Bamco just say No.
Thanks for letting me know that Tales of Festival is a thing that exists. I’mma get you a t-shirt!
Loved this video, you shared a lot of the same thoughts that I have. I absolutely agree that Tales of Legendia probably has my favorite Tales OST ever, I didn't loved the came coming off Symphonia but it is SO good. It's on Spotify along with a lot of others if anyone wants to take a listen, it is magical. ☺
Glad I've already got physical copies of every Tales game that had a western release.
I'm still hoping Bamco will rerelease and translate the games that never came over.
9:35 If you thought those PSN store decisions were weird, us people in Europe only had access to Symphonia Chronicles and Graces f physically through a triple pack where those 3 games were lumped together for some reason. Like you got Symphonia, it's sequel, and Graces f too for some reason all in the same case. Tales of have being doing weird selling packages for years.
The jumpscare my brain experienced not hearing "Hello, Jon here!"
Being a Tales of fan in the West is accepting that you're the unloved child in the family. Namco brought 1 Tales of the World game. I picked it up one Boxing day sale at a Gamebuzz (which have all closed down). I looooved that game. Then found out there were 2 sequels! And then all the Narikiri dungeon games!!!! A whole world of portable Tales games just never came stateside. Then to find out that a lot of early Tales games DID come stateside, but are extremely difficult to get a hold of (Destiny, Eternia), and a toooon of games that have never come over like Rebirth, Destiny 2, Phantasia X. I absolutely LOVE the respect the translation community because they have made so many games playable and enjoyable. I haven't gotten around to beating them, but I have my eyes on Tempest, Innocence, Destiny DC. Thanks for continuing to talk about Tales games with your platform.
I'll continue to try and playing all the games, like the PSP games like Tales of Brave, and such.
I could listen to Daniel talk about Tales games for hours...
can u please continously cover this? this is prob the fastest view-count / best coverage vid of the tales of series. i feel like the fans have the power to free it from the hands of bamco. the tales of studio belongs with sega or nintendo. hell even square enix
Thank you for shouting out Tales of Phantasia. We deserve a better version of that game.
Especially since the only official English dub we got was the GBA version which kind of was pure CRAP and the translation of it was really bad like changing Ragnarok to Kangaroo due to spell checking and not changing the battle back to Ragnarok at all.
I'm not a huge Tales fan and only played through a few of the games, but I absolutely loved Tales of Phantasia. It was one of the first games that I played through back when I was first introduced to emulation over 20 years ago. I would absolutely love a remake of that one.
I got my mom into the tales series back in the gamecube ps2 era, she's been hooked ever since. She beat tales of the abyss about 15 times or more alone.
Is that Lucina in the poster above Tales of the abbyss? I love it!! 😍😍😍
Meanwhile Trails series is going strong.. new Arc coming trails fan eating good 😊
This was a very interesting watch while I completely forgot about the Franchise, seriously. Tales of is in a very weird spot currently at Bandai Namco. I do not think the situation is any better in Japan besides the Tales of Festival and a few mobile games. The series kinda vanished the moment Tales of Producer Hideo Baba left the company to start his own at Square Enix, and we all know how this turned out (studio was shut down without releasing a single game). It was thanks to Baba that the series tackled the West again. The helm went over to Katsuhiro Harada of Tekken and Xenogears fame, but he made clear that he isn't interested that much in Tales of (but would love to see a new Xenogears) and he actually don't have the time to manage the franchise. After a while the helm went on to the current Tales of Brand-Manager, Yusuke Tomizawa who promised a lot of stuff like Remasters and even Remakes of unreleased games in the West (there are even more unreleased Tales of here in Europe) to fill the gap between the bigger games. None of it happened, in fact, he was the one who said countless times there will be no DLC for Arise. I don't think there currently is anyone at Bandai Namco games capable of handling the once so popular Franchise. But Bandai Namco itself might be the problem here. There focus is making big money with Tekken 8 over the next years and of course releasing cheaply made licensed Anime-Games. There isn't much room anymore at Bandai Namco for quality games like Tales of, Xenogears or even the .Hack Series.
Honestly I've never been a tales fan but i definitely feel sorry for the fans because for a ip thats been around for over 30 years eoth a tons of games it definitely feels like its treated with no care or respect from the devs.
not devs, publisher. There's a big difference.
(could be some dev issues buuuut)
@@jaretco6423 most japanese companies dont know how to comunicate with us, even in the days of the internet and social media.
Same. I have no interest in the Tales of series whatsoever. But I feel bad to many others that has been craving for them that hasn't been localized or re-released yet.
I just want Tales of Rebirth. Just bring that one over here. Or Destiny II. Like…PLEASE.
One good thing is that Innocence R at least has a full fan translation on the Vita now, though it's unfortunate that legal means to buy it still aren't possible in English.
Closest thing would be to buy a copy then burn the rom on a pc and THEN apply the patch.
I just finished the tales of arise dlc. I will always be a fan of this series. It’s one of the few series I always buy day one. I don’t normally buy dlc which is why I waited on this.
Tbh, I’m truly hoping they remaster the older games. I got Zesteria, Berseria, Abyss, Vesperia, Arise, and recently Symphonia (I don’t care if it’s a meh port, never got to play it before). Regardless, I’m pretty green to this series, and I would LOVE to play the older Tales games. I’d pay for a remaster of Graces, Hearts, a Xillia bundle, and some of the older 2D games. Tbh tho I’m more interested in the 3D titles but the 2D titles look interesting. Heck, I’d play Tales of The World. I try to be as optimistic as I can. Tales has become my favorite JRPG series ever, and I hope these older games see new light.
I am so glad I got the platinum trophy for Tales of Xilla 2 before it got delisted. I got it digitally because at the time I purchased it, it cost more to buy physical copy than digital. That and I was too lazy to switch different disk.
It's sad to see the state of Tales of these days. It feels like Bamco only cares for video game based on succesfulde anime shows these days.
Hopefully they do something for the 30th anniversary next year, but by now I expect nothing
I’m getting A feeling that they’re gonna go the way of THQ.
Not THQNordic, regular THQ.
@@rexmageuser it seems like it's the direction they are heading at.
Now, if they release A drawing tablet accessory, that will be the deathblow.
I recently got Tales of Arise, and I don't know if the delisting is going to affect DLC. I might be wrong, but this is pushing me to find any available copies of the series since I figured this was coming and I need to find a good time to go get these games when I can.
I still want to see Tales of Destiny 2 t9 come out
Tales of are the reason i still have my ps3 and my copies of their games there, so weird that the amazing Xillias are still stuck there
I'm glad I bought Tales of Graces F, Symphonia Chronicles, Xillia 1 and 2 on PSN when Sony scared me by saying they were gonna kill the PS3 store.
Back during the great PS3 store scare I jumped on cheap physical copies of Graces F, Symphonia Chronicles, Xillia 1 & 2. I haven't had the opportunity to play them since, but I'm still glad I did.
Thanks for making this video. It's honest and serious, and not sensationalizing the news. I have all of the ps3 Tales games digitally, I hope I'll be able to continue to play them at least that way, but who knows. My absolute favorite and first love is Destiny, which I have both the US and JP releases of and the ps2 remake. I would be overjoyed (like shaking in disbelief) if Tales of Destiny DC received an international re-release. I also hope they remaster Phantasia for the 30th anniversary. This comment is too long now, but your open passion for the series is so refreshing I wanted to share some as well.
it's sad to say this as someone who has loved the tales series since early childhood, but once abyss finally gets ported to PC and modern systems, i'm done with the series forever. the series has become unrecognizable to me and it just makes me depressed now
Tales of arise is like the star fox adventures of the tales series: a game originally nothing like the ip they transformed into a pre established ip later in development
Tales of the Abyss my beloved.
Never owned a PS2, but I spent so much time on my 3DS with it
I'd love to see more PC ports (that aren't butchered) and old tales being remade with a modern touch, not talking just graphical touch ups but from the ground up.
*_I hated Arise._* It was a very hand-holding title without any form of illusion to freedom (like in past games). I kept playing Arise, waiting for it to open up...only for the game to suddenly _end._ I hated the opening, where it just shot the player into the the world as a slave with little lead-up, and then we were suddenly free. Not having to play out that role for more than 30-minutes reduced the impact of the story set-up dramatically. Character meet-ups just sort of happened and then they're in the party. Then you go through a prairie, or a tundra, or a mountain pass or whatnot...and then new area! Boom, just like that! The snappiness of the game made me think there'd be a ship to roam around on to open the world and discover lands off the beaten path...but nope! Suddenly you've done a circle around the world, and suddenly you're in space, and suddenly you're in a tiny area of another world...and done. #&%@!!!
I have no idea what the director was thinking. I've loved Tales since the first time I booted Phantasia on my Windows 95 with ZSNES with the legendary fan patch. I own and love every game that has come stateside (yes, even Legendia - that game had an excellent story, well-written characters, and that music...). Arise was just a huge flop for me. There were multiple examples on how to craft a "giant world" game that Arise was trying to be when in development, but the director did the exact opposite. The battle system...I think was okay? I put in several dozen hours and completed the game but I can't recall what made it different from the rest. The music was a giant compilation of, "Oh hey! I heard that song in that other Tales game, but it was better then than in this game." There was no classic 4-parts to the story like other Tales games: The opening, the story, the _real_ story after the huge plot twist, and the resolution - this is also was a reason why I kept waiting for the game to "open-up".
But the biggest offense was just how _unoriginal_ the story was. To the long time Tales fans, remember Destiny II/Eternia on the original Playstation? Remember the basic world set-up: Inferia, Celestia, and the Orbus Barrier between? Remember how the king believed (for a wet few moments) that Meredy was an advance agent sent to enslave the citizens of Inferia (who were undergoing a basic 16th century tech boom) with their superior technology or whatever? Arise is that. Or maybe Arise is Symphonia, with the same premise but no control switch for the mana collection but similar enslavement story. Or Destiny, where the folks of "Er'the" rebelled against those of the scientifically-advanced Aethersphere high above that happened a thousand years before the game started. Or Maybe Graces _f_ but this time the people of the "land below" are slaves instead of refugees except _surprise!_ Hell, I can make the same argument with the story of _Legendia_ in how the inhabitants of the world are refugees who forgot their origins.
Long story short: _Arise did nothing new with its story._ Any fan of the series had seen the story done before, only better. Everything, save arguably the graphics, had been "done better" in previous games. Things were teased but never really delivered (like the battles with the monsters named after the Greater Spirits...they're just battles). Everything about Arise was just the company shouting from the rooftops, *"Remember how awesome we used to be?! WE SUCK NOW!!"*
You seem to know what you are talking about.
On your last paragraph: perfect encapsulating of the situation They went hard on the graphics and the modernization of the series( after years of visual behind the times) and unfortunately it worked out as media focused on promoting the game that way and people mostly bought it because of that.
Meanwhile those reviews seemed oblivious to the fact that the series had 30 years of history under its belt. And overall Arise was treated more like aan action game than an RPG.
How did it win RpG of the year?
You think tales have good stories? perhaps but improving the storytelling has been my desire for the series since the beginning. Arise did nothing in that regard.
Overall, rpgs in general, not just Tales, often forget to improve upon what worked in the past.
That ending got me saying "you're right though!"
The only hope right now is the statements of those behind the series currently saying stuff along the lines of making them more available being something they want to do, pretty much since Arise's release. Sucks that it's not something Namco wanted to prioritize for the literal decades this has been an issue for, but hopefully they follow through. And follow through well, of course.
Tales of the tempest was also on the DS never forget the jigsaw puzzles
Tales of Berseria and Vesperia were both released for the PS3 in Japan only, which I find kind of odd.
I think something that could help is if there are ports of older games for this generation of consoles to come out. I feel like for the foreseeable future backwards compatibility is more or less going to be baked in to the PS and Xbox ecosystems (hopefully nintendo too) because their consoles use similar architecture to their predecessors. If something gets ported to PS4/Xbox One then they might not need to do much to keep releasing them.
I do think the series will continue to develop more even if releases are more spread out. The Final Fantasy ports we have took a while to all come out but are all really accessible, so I hope Bandai does the same for Tales
Tales of Link is/was my favorite mobile game. The Tales Of series needs to go back to that consistent release schedule
Great video really enjoyed it
I'm pretty sure they were pulled because a re-release is in the horizon. Vesperia, Symphonia, Zestiria, Berseria and Arise are readily available in modern hardware. I would not fret since the PS3 install base is shrinking and re-releasing games is an efficient way of making money from something that is already there.
I've never heard of this delisted thing! its baffling because not only are so many Tales games not available on modern consoles, but the limited ones that we do have are sneakily being wiped away from us. I wish we had it like the JP fanbase, I was always so curious about the fan festivals.
