  • Learn why we recommend you should use salt in koi pond, but with caution! www.kodamakoifarm.com/benefit...
when I first started working for my Koi Master father more than 20 years ago, one of the things that surprised me, was that we used salt so much. I mean A LOT of salt!
Some of you may have had a similar experience as mine in your koi research and wondered, “Is salt actually good for a koi pond?” or “Can I just use table salt (Morton salt) in my pond?”.
Is Salt Good for a Koi Pond?
Yes, it has many benefits for creating a defense against bacteria and parasites.
Use salt to take care of parasites and/or bacteria on a Koi’s body.
Use salt to promote sickness recovery by balancing a Koi’s osmoregulation.

Thank you for making such a great video!
One of my koi looked exactly like the one you began your video with! A pinkish patch on its side about the same size. Used salt and the pink mark is now totally gone.
Knowing products NOT to use while treating with salt was a great addition to this video as you probably have saved many koi’s lives by educating us on what NOT TO DO!
Again, thank you for this wonderful video!

I just used salt for first time... same brand... cheap! And my sluggish koi, sometimes flashing and sometimes jumping... got better fast! That was a couple of days ago. Not sure what happened. Brought in some plecos to help with algae after raccoons got my trapdoor snails. So maybe new, online species brought in problems. Seeing issues again. So I just added new water with chlorine eliminator, will throw in some other good stuff like Stress Coat. And... a wee bit more salt. Going lightly until I get my salt meter. Thanks for short, informative video-which also provided the place to buy cheap salt, and the actual brand! Morton’s blue bag: Pure & Natural!

Hello Sir, thank you for your videos. I added salt to my koi pond today since 3 of them died last week and noticed red spotting on their skin. Hopefully, the salt will help, I added it straight to my koi pond since it seems to be affecting all my fish. My only question is, how long do I leave the salt in the pond? do I just remove it via water change? should it be a slow change? 10% per day, or just a big change, i.e. 25% water change? Please help and thank you!

I have a pond full of koi..and the biggest koi fish in my pond..which I consider the leader of them all....all of a sudden has started to separate itself from the others and is snorkeling more than usual...its color looks good from what I can tell..no lesions either and our pond water tested good..we use Ammo Lock but its hard to differentiate what the bad ammoniais comparedto the good from ammo lock....its not eating like the others..it is suddenly comfortable around me when it wasn't before..i have had some Comets when we started our pond that were comfortable around me but they ended up dying..so my koi is showing the same characteristics as the Comets I had before they died..so I am concerned...i saw a video of doing a salt bath which I did tonight...if by tomorrow I do not see a change..do u recommend any other treatment for it?....i just heard about a microscope and checking for parasites but I don't have a microscope yet..but I will work on getting one...this is my 1st year with our koi pond and my husband and I are learning..so any suggestions are appreciated..especially since the fact that the Koi im worried about was a $60 fish...we've had it for about 3 months now and this is the first sign of distress

I have a very large swim pond with Koi and plants. The pond is estimated to hold/circulate 100k gallons. That's 70+ bags of this product. I'll start little by little and take readings. Will it harm my plants? Lily's, iris, bog plants, grasses, etc.
