    I've been learning Chinese for maybe 12 or 13 years... You are the first...yes, genuinely the first, Chinese female teacher who has been willing to teach any words that are not entirely polite. hahaha...Boys will teach swear words as the very first thing to learn. 谢谢老师。 为什么中国姑娘那么多礼貌?

    I feel like of all the Mandarin tutors on YT right now, ShuoShuo is absolutely destroying the competition in the "subtle yet dark humor" category. It's like she has this deep wellspring of dark/sexual humor, and every so often she will let it see the light of day in her videos....

    • @kondaniriche8372
      @kondaniriche8372 4 роки тому +3

      I personally learn a lot from her videos. I love her she teaches me new expressions ! Are you a student of Mandarin ?

    • @peters8699

      @@kondaniriche8372 Yep, been at it for a few years now. My best tip would be throw away the textbooks as soon as possible and start watching at least 2-3 hours of mandarin content on YT (or listening to podcasts) every day. If you do that for at least 6 months, you will see massive improvements. Videos like the ones ShuoShuo makes are helpful, but think of them as at best supplementary. For example, all the examples she lists in this video, I've already learned just by listening to lots of content and organically coming across them again and again. Input is the key factor!

    • @jmarker35
      @jmarker35 4 роки тому

      @@peters8699 That is some very good advice! You definitely need to know some basics in order 'to get to first base' with ShuoShuo! I would also recommend Yi Zhao's learning videos. Can you list some elementary podcasts, because I have trouble catching words and phrases.

    • @peters8699
      @peters8699 4 роки тому

      @@jmarker35 听故事学中文is a great one for beginners, they go through stories in mandarin and then go back and explain the vocal, but do so in mandarin. Also they speak at a moderate pace, so it's a great podcast for beginners

    • @peters8699
      @peters8699 4 роки тому +2

      @@jmarker35 You can also watch (on YT) 世界青年说 and 二分之一强 as well, as those shows are mostly foreigners speaking fairly decent mandarin, so while it's not great training for your accent, it IS a great stepping stone to get into 100%, normal speed, native content. If you watch at least 100 hours of those shows, you'll be impressed at how effortlessly you improve.

    A lot of language resources I've used over the years (and for various different languages), most teachers try and avoid topics that are more mature and less "appropriate", and I've always found it really frustrating to search for genuine explanations of the spoken language I was hearing. People say things that aren't appropriate all the time! People curse, people say dirty jokes and innuendos! So I'm really, really glad that you're taking the time and effort to explain these kinds of words and expressions. I feel like the Mandarin that I'm learning from you is so much more human and realistic :)

    When I was studying in 苏州大学, one of my classmates told me that a good reasoning behind 屌 meaning "awesome; great" is to look at an English equivalent: a "well hung" man is considered to be a sign of greatness, lending towards the "fertility" argument haha. I guess that's a good way to remember justifying its meaning, even if it's a tad vulgar!

    I don't know if the meaning of diao has changed, but I knew a couple of Chinese kids from south china who used diao a lot. This was over a decade ago. It means F--k and is used 100% like the English word, except not for the "awesome, great" part. Only sexual or offensive, the negative meanings. It was borrowed from Cantonese, which uses it exactly the same way. I don't know where the positive spin comes from. It's about as crude as the F word and gets bleeped on television in Hong Kong, much like the F word is bleeped in the US. So YMMV when using it. Watch who you use it around.

    你太屌了! As a Greek I had so much fun with this I can't even... So, in Greek when something is 屌 (or, more precicely that it's "for the... 屌") it's considered utter garbage. We also say "to/on my... 屌" - mostly men, for obvious reasons - when we want to stress how indifferent we are toward something - actually, I recently found out there is the same expression in Farsi too. So, in Greece you wouldn't want to hear either that you are 屌 or that you are "for the... 屌" - it's actually very rude to say this to a person, although it can be said in certain cases and not cause trouble. But what's more, "屌了" sounds very close to "διάολε" - ['ðjaole] or even ['ðʝaole] - which means "devil". The word in Greek is in the vocative case, so it's mostly used as an exclamation in various cases such as surprise, pain, exhilaration etc and in this sense you can indeed say "屌了" and actually be understood as having an awesome time in some limited instances. As long as nobody understands what you are really saying. 🤣On the other hand, some Greeks do use the corresponding Greek term for 太逼 - or, more appropriately "太屄" - as slang for "awesome", although its use to is dependent on social context. It's borderline rude so, it's not appropriate to use it in every situation, but if you are among people with which one feels comfortable, it can be ok.

    Wow! About 屌 diao, in Spanish we also say that something is a diao to say that something is amazing! It's vulgar speech, not appropriate in formal situations, mind you, but it has the same use! "¡Esto es la polla!" = "这是屌!"

    Why cant u say 干 in Taiwan

  • @shreeforever1544
    @shreeforever1544 3 роки тому

    I have a question....
    As you said that we can use “你在干嘛?” instead of “你在做什么?”
    "干” has the similar meaning as 做 ....(but cannot be exchangeable always)
    And in the next word you said that “啥” has the similar meaning and can be used instead of "什么” in many cases
    So ... 干啥呀? Can be said nah?
    我的意思是,我们可不可以说“干啥呀?”

    When I was in China for a bit, some locals asked me how is it that I knew some mandarin. I told them that I spent 3 years in Beijing Prison #15. Some Chinese people did not believe me but others just looked a little nervous. "北京监狱十五号"
