      Hey, I had tried learning Hindi using Rosetta Stone for a few weeks but unfortunately, my final official conclusion is very little likelihood that this app really does the trick. Maybe, Hindi is extremely difficult and is not its strength.

      You learn about 就 才 in the very first chapter of a text book or first months of vocabulary...
      Then after 3 to 5 short years you sort of have a good feel for their uses!! But even then not smoothly enough to sound like a native 😂 that's been my experience at least, it's a fun journey though. Good work and keep looking out for 就 it's a great character

    I can give you an amazing tip for learning German. It's about two sentence structures: Haupsatz and Nebensatz (or H+N)
    Both Haupsatz + Nebensatz: There is only one verb per sentence, there is only one subject per sentence, everything else are objects. German loves Nebensatz. So it's quite common to have a haupsatz and then follow it with multiple nebensatz in order to clarify what the haupsatz was stating.
    Haupsatz: The verb ALWAYS goes into the second position of the sentence, no exceptions (yet, ignore them for now). The subject (I, you, he, she, etc), is ALWAYS next to the verb. Either first position (before verb) or third position (after verb). All other words in the sentence can be objects.
    Example:
    Ich will ein Bier trinken
    Du willst ein Biere trinken
    Ich schreibe ein comment in UA-cam
    Nebensatz: The verb ALWAYS goes to the very end of the sentence, no exceptions (yet, ignore them for now). Start learning with the german word "because", weil.
    Example:
    Ich will ein Bier trinken, weil (because) ich durst habe (I'm thirsty)
    You might think that there are two verb words here, "will" (the personal I form of wollen, to want) = "want" and "trinken" = "to drink". But an infinitive is not a verb. A verb always describes the subject. Example: Ich will, du willst, er/sie/es will. Wollen is the infinitive (to want), but it is not a verb, since it does not describe who is doing the action.
    If you stick with this H+N rule for a while and write some sentences, you'll start to realise you can suddenly write a LOT of sentences. It's like an instant level up and it's one of the things most apps and most teachers don't focus on when teaching beginners and it's a pity, because this one rule is the most important rule and it's the one which gives an instant kick start to learning german.
    In your video, it shows you are learning some simple things, I write, You write, He writes, etc, etc. This is great for accumulating vocab, but the H+N rule I just gave you will teach you how to write lots of sentences naturally without having to jump through hoops. Once you have this foundation and trust me, it's the ABSOLUTE BEDROCK FOUNDATION OF GERMAN, you'll find the other rules you need to learn like Relativsatz (Relative sentences are sentences which depend on information given in the previous sentence, they omit some words because the information is already given in the preceding sentence), or Akkusativ and Dativ, a LOOOOOOOOOT easier.
    Akkusativ and Dativ is the second thing to focus on because it allows you to correctly describe the objects you're using in your sentences. Do you want to drink a beer? Then "beer" is your object, in this case, it's the "What?" Therefore it's Akkusativ. If you are walking to the park, the park is the object. But the park is not a "What?", it's a "Where?". Therefore you need to use dativ to describe it. It seems a bit overwhelming at first, but you just learn the combinations and then you just use them all the time without thinking about it that much. You have an extra layer of prepositions which can force you into Akkusativ or Dativ, or be either (depending on the situation). But to be honest, it's mostly memorisation about which combinations you have. Maybe I'm making this comment way too complicated than it needs to be by adding all this extra stuff :D
    The easiest way to know if an object is Akkusativ or Dativ? Akkusativ always answers the question "What?". What is doing this. What object do you have. What this, what that, etc. Dativ answers questions which are not answered by the question "What?". Such as "Where?", "Why?", "When?". So anything that describes or requires a "what". Then you use Akkusativ. EVERYTHING ELSE IS AUTOMATICALLY DATIV. This is the easiest way to learn Akkusativ or Dativ. What=Akkusativ, everything else=Dativ.
    Anyway, I just wanted to write this here, because I learned a lot from you, so I wanted to contribute something back :)

    Most people in America have known about Rosetta Stone for many years long ago. And actually, one of the best ways to learn either (Mandarin or Cantonese) is by understanding the Kanji characters of the Chinese language, by noticing that each character is an (action.) The character usually describes the action symbol to show you what the word is, or what the word means. Quite simple, if your interest is high enough...lol 😁

    I've been using Rosetta Stone for Mandarin for almost 4 months now. I have MANY other materials, but I use Rosetta as my 'core' lessons, as it teaches a BOATLOAD of vocabulary. As you progress in Rosetta Mandarin, they start hitting you with sooooooooooo much vocabulary that it's almost too much, but they drill it into you so well that you'll realize it wasn't too much after all. You still need to use more resources to learn Mandarin, but like I said, I use Rosetta as my core workout. I'm quite happy with it.

    • @ollieanntan4478
      @ollieanntan4478 Рік тому

      I had a similar experience with Rosetta Stone. It's amazing, but I do wish they would add more time to practice after teaching new vocabulary.

    • @iamclarity
      @iamclarity Рік тому

      @@ollieanntan4478 Wow that was 2 years ago now!!! Sheesh! I'm happy that I started with Rosetta because, after looking back, I see the main thing I got out of it was getting used to the sounds and drilling the TONES. Tones have not been a problem for me one bit after Rosetta (like not difficult *at all*). I give Rosetta Stone a lot of credit for making the tones so easy for me. But I must say, now that I'm now learning full TV shows, native-level content, and have even gotten used to different native accents, I now see that Rosetta Stone's vocabulary wasn't all that useful, except for maybe the really basic starting vocabulary. From what I remember, coupled with what I know now, Rosetta Stone used a lot of formal wording and long versions of words and phrases that Chinese people don't really use. But do I regret doing the whole program? ABSOLUTELY NOT, because it laid a solid foundation for me moving forward, and it allowed me to easily advance into stuff like sentence-mining. It helped ignite a fire in me that I still have to this very day. In fact, I just now finished a 3 hour session of Anki sentences pulled from TV shows (which is my main form of study at the moment). I study every single day! I love and adore this language and the culture!
