@@vaeal2004 "普通“ is normal, not special, it has connotations of "fact and objective", like 每个人都是普通人(everyone is a normal person); "平凡” also means normal, but "凡” refers the mankind earth comparing with heaven, so 平凡 has the connotation of "not magnificent". "平凡之路“ refers to the life, and it's more about self pursuing inner peace instead of describing the life is just bland and normal.

Haha, reminds me learning Chinese back at the university especially with 同意. Laoshi had us repeat 我同意你的看法/想法 several times. As for 都, it's easy to understand why many students commonly make this mistake because they haven't been introduced with 所有的. They want to say 都人 everyone、都国家 all countries etc. because they've only learned that 都 means "all". However 所有的 isn't taught in Chinese class until much later usually at the intermediate level.

Thanks for the video, especially for reminding us of those mistakes we make in our daily life. These mistakes, I do believe, are influenced everyone's native language. We tend to translate literally sentences from our native languages into other languages.
Regarding ”我同意你”, some of my Chinese native speakers think that it's wrong. For them, we should say ”我同意你說的話”、ie for them in Chinese we don't agree (or disagree) with people but with what they say or what they do).
    Thanks, waiting for your comment.

Your student Will..... hahahaha I love it! I JUST started Korean 5 weeks ago and had no intention of starting Chinese yet. But I'm already drawn in....... I went to look up Krock bands to listen so I could listen to the language. Ended up finding music I love anyway. Rolling Quartz and Luli Lee are amazing. 5 weeks in and it has already opened up a new world. Chinese and Japanese are next. After that, Spanish and Italian ought to be easy. I'm from California so I can probably skip ahead.

Most of those mistakes are made by native speakers of English language. In my case (native speaker of Italian and Spanish), there are some times I don't commit that mistake, as in Italian we say exactly in the same way, for example: 等我一下。
Some other mistakes are the same or differently.

Wonderful lesson. On the last one, there's a subtle difference in English that I'm not sure how to convey in Chinese. In English saying:
"All my friends " emphasizes a different common relationship among the subject than "My friends all "
The latter matches with the Chinese in emphasizing that they share the predicate, but the former instead emphasizes that they are all members of the group "my friends."
Is there a simple way to convey this other emphasis on Chinese or does the dou construction bridge both meanings?

    Great topic! 请继续谈话这样事情!
“等我几分钟” rather than “给我几分钟” I probably do mostly get right, but almost certainly do make that mistake from time to time. For whatever it’s worth, my (Chinese) wife thinks that “给我几分钟” is probably OK, informally at least, but, yes, agrees that “等我几分钟” is certainly more proper.
“我同意你” I probably have gotten wrong in the past, but no more! 谢谢!
都 before a noun is a mistake I *almost certainly never* make. As with many of these, this clearly comes from word-for-word translation from English, which I rare do. I virtually always go straight from ideas in my brain directly to 中文. That to the point where, sometimes when I’m stumbling to figure out how to say something in 中文, my wife sometimes criticized me for not just saying it in English. I don’t because my brain is in full-on 中文 mode, and if I try to switch my brain to English mode, I often forget what I was talking about!

Good tips! "都“ mistake is super common among my students, too! As a native speaker, I wouldn't say "同意你”. Instead I would say "同意你的看法“ or "同意你的话”. Typically “同意” is followed by an opinion instead of a person, unless I'm mistaken?

That clarified all kinds of things, so thanks so much!
In fact, it even had me question the characters in 意思 briefly, because when I lived in Japan, I'd see caution/danger signs at train stations (or, when driving on mountain roads...), and other places with the characters 注意 ( said, "chui") which is apparently nearly a perfect homophone in Chinese with (chu4 yi4). When I'd first seen the 意 in 意思, I was curious as to how the two were related.
In the last sentence example, you are missing the word "are" in, "Many cities in China are fun."
Still, this lesson was top notch! Thanks again!
(also, I'm glad you don't prefer guys that are taller than you, since that means you are judging a potential mate on a largely vein characteristic versus one of value, like goodness or honesty. It is very juvenile to be superficial. Best in finding the right guy, even if it could potentially be me! hahaha Take care!)

Some mistakes sound totally fine to me haha.
给我一分钟, or 给我一点时间,though not used when asking someone to wait, it’s usually used as a response when you are pushed by others (like being pushed by your boss to finish a task immediately), or making promises (e.g. 给我三天,一定把钱还你).
最近下雨很多,sounds fine as well. 很多 can also be used to describe frequency. “最近(我)熬夜很多,需要保养下”
Though these might be grammatically wrong, they sound fine to native speakers. Maybe in daily conversations, grammar isn’t that important. Native speakers make mistakes as well. Then some common mistakes become accepted by people. That’s how languages evolve.
However, if you are taking Chinese tests, follow your teacher’s instructions, haha. After all tests are really different from real life. Like me, got 8 in IELTS, still can’t consider myself a proficient English speaker.

Hi, teacher Shuo, your video is very helpful and informative as well. I'm a little bit confused about 一点儿 and 有点儿 one. Just a quick question, can I say "他就是一点儿钱,没什么不起“("一点儿+noun" as you mentioned )? In addition, would you also let me know which one is correct between "他一点不害怕我” vs "他有点不害怕我“? Thank you! I guess the latter one, right? (有点儿+adjective) Thank you!

      他就是一点儿钱,没什么不起✘
      就他那点臭钱,没什么了不起的。✔
      他一点不害怕我。✘
      他一点(儿)都不怕我/他一点(儿)都不害怕我。✔
      他有点不害怕我。✘
      他不是很怕我/他不是很害怕我。✔

Hi ! At 9:27 , does the sentence mean "Many cities in China are fun ? "
I think the verb is missing in the translation.
    Also your videos are amazing.

老师,请再给我一分钟 is commonly used when your exam time has ended, but you still has that one question you haven't answered, I found my chinese friends say this too XD

Your Chinese of course is infinitely better than mine, and I regret saying this but in English, you need a helping/auxiliary verb: "Many cities in China *are* fun/interesting." not "Many cities in China fun/interesting." for 中国的很多城市有意思。

I commented on someone's video earlier "这个视频太棒了" and instantly after I posted it I had the feeling it was wrong for some reason. I didn't know why it was wrong but I know one of the Chinese teaching UA-camrs talked about this in a video. So I have been going through your common mistakes videos recently because I had a feeling it was one of yours. If you know what I'm talking about can you please link me the video or explain if and why it it wrong ?

Honestly from a native speaker point of view, 等 to wait or 给 to give, it's the same. I hear ppl say both equally often. 😊

I always make a mistake by saying 去在, while it supposed to be 去 only. Example: 我剛去(在)學校 (on which the 在 is actually unecessary).

I love these videos because I started teaching beginning Chinese last year, and there are some instances where I will come across students translating sentences directly, but then have a hard time explaining why their direct translation does not make sense in Chinese like in the instance of 很多 versus 经常/常常. I really like these lessons as refreshers for myself and knowledge I can pass on to my own students. ^o^) We should be learning 都 soon, so I can't wait to see how easily my students will be able to pick it up.
