    H/H match update for episode 1335 and End-of-Week Recap:
    ...
    ~~~Today's Action:
    After a brief fashion show (Brett looks quite modern and comfy, actually, but what on Earth was Charles wearing?), our champion returns to center stage to complete his second Super-Match. As yesterday's show concluded, he'd just won $500 on his second Audience Match (after bombing out the first time), and so this will be his first head-to-head question (and only the second H/H all week!).
    Today the wheel picks... Brett. And it's a double! This is hysterical because back in 1333 when Charles was chosen, I lamented that, despite loving it when Charles and Brett play the H/H, this week I'd prefer to see Joyce, Elaine, Raymond, and David have a chance to answer a question! Now it looks like the week may end without any of them being chosen for a H/H. (I still don't know if there will be time for a second H/H today.)
    Stats: Brett last played (and matched) in 1328, and she's matched 9 of her last 17 attempts (52.9%) and 20 out of her 37 most recent attempts (54.1%). Her overall success rate is 44.3% and this is her 89th attempt. She's answered more H/H questions than anyone but Richard, and she's currently only 2 matches behind Charles (39 to 41) overall for second place in that category.
    *Today's (first) H/H question: "Pirate_______"*
    (This sounds like a good, old-fashioned H/H question. Pirate ship is my answer.)
    Brett is pondering (looking down at the bottom tier). The champion is nodding his head. She begins to write her answer and files it without delay.
    "The first thing that came to my mind was 'Pirate Ship'," he says, and the audience bursts out with a solid 10 positive reaction. Brett has her stunned face which means she matched.
    And when she goes off on an apology/explanation, you know she's matched!
    It's unanimous again: "Ship" - Here comes one of those wonderful hugs!
    Brett scores her 40th H/H match today. (And she moves ahead of Jo Ann Pflug on the leader board once again.)
    ~~~~~
    A quick game brings our champion to the center stage for his third Super-Match. And it looks like we have plenty of time for another H/H!
    *Today's audience match question: "________Universe"*
    (My thoughts: Miss, Mr., The whole)
    The celebs: Charles (Miss), Brett (Mr.), Joyce (Club) - It's interesting to note that this champ has chosen the same 3 stars in the same exact order all three times. Most champions tend to change it up each time.
    The choice: Miss
    The answers: Club, Mr., Miss - Kudos to the panel for getting all the answers and in the proper order!
    Okay, here comes the third and last H/H of the week. Will Joyce have a chance to cement her spot near the top of the leader board? Will Elaine have a chance for her third match and move to the big leader board? Will Raymond Burr have a chance before his MG "career" comes to an end? Will David Doyle finally get his first shot at a question?
    This time the wheel picks... Joyce! (No double.) I'm glad someone gets a chance this week (I love Brett and Charles, but they're on every week and have answered a lot of questions, and it's pretty clear now how well they do at the H/H, so I enjoy seeing lesser-featured stars have a chance. This was my big gripe with the pre-wheel format where Richard was chosen around 90% of the time.)
    Stats: Joyce last played (and matched) in 1283, and this is her 6th H/H question overall. She currently stands near the top of the leader board at 4 matches in 5 attempts (80.0%).
    *Today's (second) H/H question: "Farm_______"*
    (Another good, old-fashioned H/H question. Farm house. Farm animal? House was my first thought. I'll stick with it.)
    The champion is softly nodding his head, making me think he's decided. We see Joyce still deciding. It looks like she has an answer written, but she's showing it to her colleagues for feedback. She files her card.
    "The first thing that came to my mind was 'farm animals'," he says, offering my alternate choice. The audience sounds positive, but less than a 10 this time.
    It's hard to read Joyce (I haven't seen her play many of these, obviously), but if I had to bet, I'd say she does match, based on a little twinkle I think I see in her eyes.
    Well, that was wishful thinking on my part. "Land" is her answer.
    No H/H match this time.
    (And Joyce slips from #2 to #3 on the leader board. - But, looking at it another way, of all the celebs who have had 6 or more H/H questions, she's still #1 !!!)
    ~~~The Week that Was:
    The week got off to a slow and painful start on the H/H front when time expired on Monday without a Super-Match, and then 2 Audience Match fails happened on Tuesday! Wednesday finally saw our first H/H question and a $5K match! But on Thursday, what do we get but another AM fail! Yikes! Friday was the best day of all when Brett scored a 10K match and we had time for another H/H with Joyce. - Our minuscule tally for this week: CNR 1/1, Brett 1/1, Joyce Bulifant 0/1
    This wasn't the worst week on record, though: looking back, I found three other weeks that similarly saw three Audience Match fails: 1281-1285, 1151-1155, and 1111-1115. (I only started recording these around episode 500, so I can't say what happened in the Audience Match fail department prior to that.)
    Of note, *Joyce Bulifant* has only 2 weeks left on the panel, and she stands near the top of the leader board at 4 matches in 6 attempts (66.7%). I'd love to see her get a couple more attempts before her stats are complete.
    *Elaine Joyce* likewise has only 2 weeks left, and has matched twice in her four total attempts. One more match will advance her to big leader board. I hope she gets it.
    To keep the trend going, *David Doyle* has only 2 weeks left, but he still hasn't had a shot at a H/H.
    Finally, *Raymond Burr* goes into the MG history books after this one week on the panel and never having a shot at a H/H.
    ~~~Looking ahead, here's who will be joining our steadfast Brett & Charles next week:
    ----- Semi-regular *Betty White* , returning for her 71st week (of 75 total). Betty last appeared in 1321-1325, and her track record in matching in the H/H is terrific despite two misses during her most recent week: 46.9% (23 matches in 49 attempts).
    ----- *Gary Burghoff* will return for his 41st week (of 43 total). He filled in for Charles in the third seat for a long stretch (mainly in 1975), but this is his first time sitting in the #5 seat. His next appearance in 1391-1395 will also be in #5, but for his final week (which is also the final week of the show, 1451-1455) he'll be back in #3, as Charles' final week comes two week before the final curtain of Match Game '79. Although based on less data, Gary's H/H success rate is superior to Betty's (and Charles's): 62.5% (5 matches in 8 attempts).
    ----- *Nipsey Russell* will return for his 26th week (of 28 total). He recently appeared for two consecutive weeks (1306-1310 & 1311-1315), and scored his first H/H match in episode 1310. That was his 9th attempt (and he hasn't been chosen since). Coincidentally, Richard also scored his first H/H match on his 9th attempt. Nipsey held down the 5th seat during 1306-1310, and that was and will be his only week in that seat.
    ----- Last but not least, *Judy Landers* will appear for her one and only week on the panel.
    ~~~Finally, here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    *Both Brett and Joyce have moved in the rankings since yesterday.*
    (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she or he has "retired" from the show and their H/H stats are now complete.)
    (For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts).
    (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts).
    Joyce Bulifant - 66.7% (4 matches in 6 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 62.5% (5 matches in 8 attempts).
    Charles - 50.6% (41 matches in 81 attempts).
    Betty - 46.9% (23 matches in 49 attempts).
    Fannie - 46.2% (18 matches in 39 attempts).
    Brett - 44.9% (40 matches in 89 attempts).
    (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts).
    (*)Richard - 42.5% (373 matches in 878 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1335, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. (Note: episode 849 was never produced.) These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036. These stats do, however, include results of episodes 1309 through 1317, found on channels other than this one.
    The spec 5 won more money in the super bonus than he made in one year. In 1978 he made about 7000 a year. I went in the service in 1970. My starting pay for the first 4 months was about 120.00. Needless to say service men make more today.
    LOL.Charles with no pants.I wonder if a TV series with Charles and Brett would be a hit.
    As Charles noted that he was born in Hartford many times on the show.
    On Wikipedia .They say he was from South Bronx NY where my step dad was born.I also know that he was one of the 1944 Hartford Circus tent fire survivors when he was 13. Thats also noted on Wikipedia.... .
    BTW Before I forget.Thanks goes out to Spec 5 for his service for our country......
