The reason there isn't much creaking is that the wood is all saturated. If an old home isn't creaking, it's a bad thing.

specially true if the shape of loadbearing things like joists, beams, walls, and other structures have change shape or are letting go... then beyond doubt if lack of creaking is good or bad, its just bad. it means that whatever is bearing your additional load is already at or beyond capacity so saturation in both load and in moisture.. also be that shape changed enough that the structured is already loaded and you can set it off like a spring.
moisture is really bad and not because it rots specifically...but in transitional environments where summer is hot and moist and winter is hard packed and frozen...saturated wood will get destroyed way faster more it goes through these cycles within a few short years the wood turns into basically a crumbling sponge....which makes no noise when it lets go and collapses...you wont hear it happening until its too late and other stuff lets dow around it with you on it or around it..

Could also be mineral wool (Roxall, etc.), which is still used today. Some fiberglass is white like that, some yellow, but I think the pink stuff is just dyed (hence the Pink Panther ads). Some older insulation was a mix of vermiculite, mica and asbestos, but this stuff looks more consistent that that.

We went in that place in the 1970’s when some personnel were still stationed as guards. We crawled in under the fence from a bluff--dug our way beneath, then walked around. Despite being fenced in, there wasn’t much to see. There were barrack like buildings, locked, covered with gray asbestos shingles. What little could be seen inside was workbenches, assorted tools, all coated in dust and mold. There were a lot of cement foundations where buildings had been, but now overgrown. Near the proper entrance there was a small barrack still in use as evidenced by a standard US Govt. issue black sedan parked beside it. My cousin Pete boosted me up to a back window. Inside was an office with standard govt. issue metal desk, wheeled office chairs, a mimeograph machine on a table, a two-way radio phone and filing cabinets. While we were still behind the office, we heard a vehicle on gravel, so we bolted back into the woods to get out of eyeshot, then walked as quickly and quietly as we dared until we came to the perimeter fence. It wasn’t where we’d dug in, but we found a place between poles, wide enough at the top to squeeze through. We took off through the woods until we found the access road from which we knew we’d be able to find our way into town. I remember discovering we were absolutely covered in ticks of all sizes and colors, some of them actually pretty except they were blood sucking ticks! We ended up taking turns stripping naked behind some pine trees, so got most of them out of our clothes, hair, and bodies. I later found one attached and sucking in my right armpit, and my aunt discovered another in Marjorie’s scalp. “Where’ve you kids been all day?” my Dad asked. We told a half truth lie that we’d walked along the LIRR tracks to the end of the line in town. I haven’t been back to that area in well over a decade.
There’s another USArmy owned area about 50 miles east of Camp Hero on the North Shore. It was known as Defense Hill and there were missile silos located beyond the gate house. When a school child, I knew a boy who lived in the base housing off 25-A. The school bus picked up and dropped off a small number of children at a gated sentry booth about a half mile from the main entrance.

You guys were curious about the different room structures. In most school areas they would have had set ups for things like whole apartments with a bedroom and bathroom made to to scale. A physiotherapist working in the community would need to know best ways to transfer, and treat patients in a home like environment. Alternatively some schools would be used as actual functional clinics where students would work with real patients to gain confidence and skill. One thing we often do to assist people, is to do what we call ADL (Activities of Daily living) testing or training where we get patients and families to show us how they would do certain activities at home. things like bed to chair transfers, toileting and transfer in and out of a bathtub and the ability to make meals are really important skills to an injured or disabled person.

It comes with the high amount of rain. Also it is a mostly wooden structure so as soon as tha water finds a way in, the building is gone

It's amazing how quickly buildings deteriorate without maintenance.. If I was somebody that owned a building maintenance company I would use your videos as selling points for my business..

Why is there one guy not wearing a respirator? I guess he is like most young men, they don't think the danger is really there.
There is a saying: We spend the first half of our lives trying to ruin our health, and the second half trying to save it.

What’s crazy is the amount of structural deterioration doesn’t equate to the level of cosmetic deterioration. I’ve seen far worse in larger buildings, but the appearance of prolonged water damage was more evident.

Crying shame to see a lot of that plaster work go to waste. The old coal burning mantle stove would command a pretty penny to antique collectors. There's still so much of that stuff in Europe that I don't think they appreciate it.
