Cool video and an interesting explore! You probably did this but when exploring an abandoned mine it is crucial to have several extra light sources and to make sure someone out there knows you went in. Also a good thing to make this clear in case others are inspired to try exploring for themselves. :)
I wish they would've suffered in the mine the way Phillip Mercer suffered in all the mines he visited in the novel "The Medusa Stone." It would be droll. People need to spend as much money on my Dance of Death James Grider novel on Amazon as they did on The Medusa Stone.
Those vape tricks at 5:15 tho 😂
Please be careful. Don't go through tunnels you'd have to crawl through and can't back out.

*#1 Rule for exploring. TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING and when you should return! Its a very simple thing to do and may save your life if you get into trouble.*
killersushi99 With their lack of proper equipment to be in that mine, if someone did alert authorities should they not come back, it’d be a body recovery mission, because it’s a very real possibility that they just inhaled something that makes one not feel so good and fucking die. That being said I’d recommend they make an addendum talking about their mistake and how you need proper equipment, after all.. Proper Equipment.. Proper People.

No gas mask in a MINE? Come on guys, an unmaintained mine that is deep underground. Bad stuff for your lungs deep down there.
But very good editing, this got me to sub
Even with the mask, there's a risk of suffocating on any number of gasses.
@@cryowreck3193 does it block carbon monoxide?
Jumbochook, gas mask do not protect you from carbon monoxide
It's not necessary a gas mask that will save you. A gas mask filters out bad gases so you can continue to breath in oxygen, but it's the lack of oxygen within those toxic gases underground that kills you. In some wet areas underground with no ventilation the buildup of toxic gases can be so intense you suffocate due to the lack of oxygen. You really just need a quality gas meter that can pick up the various common contaminants found underground, such as a 3gas reader.
@@jibb1451 In any case you're far better off with at least a gas mask than without. These guys seem outright foolish to go in without one.
I'm all for exploring, but I'll never enter an abandoned mine. Since they're abandoned, the ventilation isn't maintained. That lets crap build up in the air so that there's a serious risk of suffocation any deeper than ~100 feet straight forward. I'm not an expert, but I consider it a way bigger risk than injury from falling rocks.
Well, if it's been connected to the exterior for a fairly long and not explosives have been set off recently they should be fine, it's an iron mine. What would be dangerous is a coal mine, or some sort of mine that contains asbestos or related minerals.
@@flambelk4489 When I was in elementary school, they took us to lackawanna county in PA and had us a tour of an active or maintained coal mine... the next year in middle school the trip was a morgue... guy literally cut open a brain in front of us. I think they were trying to kill us tbh
Dude the danger is from gasses such as h2s that settle in mines. You'll be dead before you smell it
@@5T3LTH no you won't. There are a lot of (innert) gases you can die from easily, due to not gettin Oxygen/too little oxygen like Argon, Nitrogen and Carbon Dioxide as examples for Inert Gasses you might suffocate from. Then there is Carbon Monoxy that will kill you as it is poisonous.
But H2S? Have you ever worked with H2S?
Paul G my point is that gassed will kill you with no warning. These guys need a monitor. H2s is known to have a distinctive odor, but in high concentrations you will die before you smell it. I got that knowledge from Haliburton safety training information.
*goes into abandon mine* oh man! I got my hands dirty!
Right? These guys were emotionally and mechanical unprepared. Not even a gas meter? They're lucky they didn't end up in a toxic gas area.
No helmets, breathing protection, or even just gloves. These guys are so underprepared its worrisome.
theyre free caving. its like the movie free solo but with caves
It's the dumbest thing to do when caving. Darwin award much.
Why do they need breathing protection? All dust settled down and wet. This isnot an active mine. It's now just a man made cave.
yes ,just like any air ventelation equipment also been inactive for a shit load of time..and carbon poisioning is a nasty way to die , or amonia poisioning..theres a reason why people going into bat caves at surface lvl got mouth masks ,or gask masks if being low in them.
not to mention potential parasitic fungus or bacterias that enjoyes damp dark deepths @@ErikAdalbertvanNagel
@@ErikAdalbertvanNagel Well say for example they walk into an area of the mine which doesn't have alot of air circulating, say that area has alot of trapped gas, say that it's a kind of gas you can't smell, so the guy walks along it till he starts to feel drowsy and falls unconscious, his mate starts to worry and goes looking for him, he then eventually finds him and goes rushing over to him without realizing how drowsy he feels and fall unconscious in the panic, say another mate starts to worry and decides to go looking for them as well, say he eventually finds them lying on the ground, he panics and runs to their aid only to meet their fate.
This will keep happening till someone realizes what's going on and runs to go get help at which point it won't be a rescue mission but a body recovery mission. I'd like to think your life is more precious than some cheap breathing protection a gas monitor and a helmets.
We not gonna talk about the person playing music in the middle of the forest cause I mean who does that and why are they so calm about it it's also getting CLOSER
oof oof it’s the Winnie the Pooh theme
weird people go into the woods and do weird things
I love to walk through the woods with my ukulele and just play music, if it's raining I'll just bring a speaker. It's always nice :)
Sometimes you just don't want to practice inside. It gets so friggin claustrophobic sitting inside all the damn time.
Propably just someone practicing theyr instrument because they cant do it at home for some reason (other people in the house, theyr wife/husband, they have a baby...?).
Awesome ...but i'm curious as to why you don't have appropriate gear when exploring.
Gaidin didn’t even bring any small pocket tools to make an accurate map
@@teddyfresh9605 I wear Adidas shoes, hiking, and caving.... why? Its comfortable and I know how they feel. Others may wear boots. But I'm not as comfortable and know how they will react or feel if shit happens...
HELMETS!!! Helmets prevent people from getting killed. Helmets are your friends. Wear helmets when exploring abandoned caves or mines. But anyways, nice video :)
and o2/gas sensors/masks... I love these guys and wish they'd protect their health more
In another comment they said that they had O2 sensors
Where? In their backpacks? lol
Helmets wont do u no good when a 100kg roof block falla on hes head. Hes neck and back instantly snaps
Name some reasons why a helmet will be beneficial in a cave exploration?
The sparkles you saw in the rock likely were a form of iron--pyrite! Pyrite commonly cause sparkles in rocks and riverbeds. It's also known as Fool's Gold. The other common option for the sparkles is Mica, or Muscovite. But seeing as how you were in a supposed Iron mine, I'd say Pyrite is the most likely candidate!
This is the comment I was looking for 👍
Pirate?
To me it looks like mica. I'm not a 100% sure but I can tell by the way it sparkles, the color and the stone it's in.
@@sjalvdestruktiv That is the first thing I thought. I personally am not a geologist so I don't know if mica would be found with iron ore. Just thinking, though, I don't see why not. I guess I skipped that science class, or just forgot.
It could very well be Mica! Mica is pretty common, and it definitely makes rock glitter like that.
surprised you guys didn't find a mine-cart chest

You need to be SUPER careful with mines. I've got my own share of mine and cave exploration. In my experience, you ALWAYS need a hardhat, respirator, gloves, and boots. That's the minimum. Mines are something I stay away from, as they have a tendency to cave in or leak toxic gasses into the shafts.
Mountain Mike what happens to you if you inhale them?
@@caledonhockley883 you get the ded
Ive always wanted to explore caves. We have several here, but you go through them with a tour guide. I want to explore on my own or at least a couple of other people
I did one, ONE mine exploration trip. I can say safely I will never go again. Me and my mates had proper gear but the sheer amount of side tunnels, unmapped lines, and random shafts/wells were enough to persuade us to leave and never make the trip again. Plenty of people have met their end in that mine. We didn't want to become a part of that group.
@@caledonhockley883 There's multiple risks with gasses underground.
There's the explosive type, which can blow up when you're standing inside a cloud of it and anything causes a tiny spark (any electronics could do that)
Then there's the toxic type, depending on the concentration you either suffer health consequences or you die fast because of the toxicity.
Another problem with the gasses underground is that they displace oxygen, so even if the gas itself doesn't kill you, you'll die because of lack of oxygen.
A gas mask does not protect against lack of oxygen. To operate in an environment without oxygen you need a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) system, like those firefighters use.
The best way to partly mitigate these risks is to be careful and carry a gas monitor which warns you of low oxygen contents, explosive gasses and so on.
Common and useful tip A lot of mine explorers and workers use is "Right hand rules" always turn right and then backtrack, helps with a mental picture as well as your map.
The Zurban always put torch on the right
And never dig straight down.
I just realised those are both Minecraft references...
the right hand rule also works in a maze where you follow the same idea. though both jokes above are from minecraft it a good idea to always put a marker on the same side, an bring a tool of sorts to mark the splits, even drawing a map like they did, i would have thought to bring a bit of chalk or something else to help as well.
I always put my torches on the left side of the cave in Minecraft. It is still possible to get lost coming back, though, if the cave gets REALLY crazy.
Never change the intro music. I was humming the tune at work today.
Excellent music is another thing that sets The Proper People a grade above the rest.
I just realized the tune comes from Lady Gaga's "Telephone"
Thanks guys for being such honest people, throughout all your videos you always are respectful of the places you go and always leave it the way you found it.. so cheers to you guys! It's awesome being able to find places untouched by vandals!
16:30 you were saying?
Yes at 16.30 there are voices being heard, disembodied voices of the paranormal to be exact............
What the fuck are you two on about, I replied to Jordan, not you paranormal nuts. The time-stamp had jackshit to do with "voices".
Wow. You guys are woefully ill prepared for this, and lack the proper knowledge required to safely navigate underground. Honestly that is why I enjoy these videos.

Ryno Throwton I loved the vid bit that was what I thought too when they said that lol cheers!
Probably because they're in Europe, far away from home, and don't have a bunch of extra clothes.
nah, fuck tetanus, least my pants look good.
I'm sure they weren't just thinking of appearances. You wouldn't believe the kinds of toxins you can get on surfaces of random things. Another reason gloves are a good and potentially healthy idea. Plus with thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment, I don't want any of that tarnished. Just sayin.
Overalls. gloves and a helmet would have made a lot of sense.
Very amazing but dangerous explore!
I agree , this was awsome but they should at the very least wear hard hats and gloves.
Your so right, with the amount of experience these guys have got you would think they would be equipped with at least what you said, I don't get there thinking to be honest...??
@@johnwojtsvideos3616 hard hats and gloves are the least of your worries on an explore like this. Oxygen deprivation and methane gas are far more dangerous however they stated on another comment they had metering equipment.
@@Mk7Poorsche They may have gas alarms, but I doubt they have an effective rescue plan, a top man, BA sets, etc that anyone else would be required to use lol. That said, maybe we just can't see all that stuff...
very much. I don't have the guts for that
That sparkling stuff on the rock was pyrite (fools gold)
Nope. Calcite deposits actually. Pyrite looks like golden crystalline opaque clusters. The calcite there started as flowstone then continued to crystallize in the ambient moisture of the mine
15:40 "They wouldn't of left iron behind!"
Meanwhile the tunnels are full of abandoned railway tracks made of refined iron lol
*wouldn’t have
Can you imagine being down there and losing your light source??
ranmacman Damn i didnt think about it and it just a horrible situation, it is a certein dead
Fuck that bro lmao. I’d lose my shit and die in there probably
Losing your light would be horrible but I've seen videos of mines that had a ton of chutes all over the place so even if you were in complete darkness you couldn't even hug the wall because it would lead you right into a chute. Scary shit.
Imagine if your lights all died at the same time and then you heard creepy music start to play
That’s a terrifying thought
7:38, lesson learned. In preparation for cave exploration, download extra WiFi in case you run out in remote areas.

"its so foggy" while hes breathing in all the toxic mineral powder

Oh hey, another channel I subed to whoever long ago and forgot about after UA-cam added the bell and stopped putting them in my feed.

This video is whole other level incredible guys. The edit, the tunnel animation, the soundtrack. Soooo dangerous and you should have worn respirators to protect against the mould spores and dust. We want to see you guys healthy to produce more amazing content, not sick with some lung disease.
Helmets, headlamps, glowsticks, flares, lifestraws, Thermal blankets MRE's and RPE.
I'd highly not recommend using a flare or any other fire source in a deep cave. There can be build ups of stuff like Methane that will turn the entire cave into a furnace WTH a spark and some bad luck... That's if you don't suffocate from the lack of oxygen. beforehand lol.
@@jibb1451 I was actually thinking the same thing when I put it down, burns up oxygen or could start an explosion. They should be a last resort anyway, but good to have in a bugout bag IMO.
@@PeakCasual you can never be too prepared. Hell, if I was going into a undocumented cave system for TWO DAYS, I'd be bringing quite the bag because I'm paranoid like that. Lol. I'd likely also bring a small oxygen tank with a breathing mask in case I wondered into a deadzone. Caves are just bad business man.
I mean $100 per person can get you a fairly decent setup of these things. It's not even like this is super expensive
The helmets are the biggest for me. Im having a hard time watching. And the stale air problems because the ventilation is shut off unless they are doing it old school with thermodynamics (doubtful this mine seems newer than that and it's temperate climate)
You need to have a spotter when you're going in something like this or anywhere but especially someplace like this you should have two-way radios and have someone that stays outside and if you're not back by a predetermined time that they go for help
just watching you and realizing how long you're in there and how deep you are and how long it would take for help to reach you you really need a spotter that stays outside that can reach help by phone or two way radio
We had friends in the area who know the exact location of where we went into the mine, and we had a pre-determined time that if they had not heard from us by that we needed help. The reason we did not mention safety precautions in this video is because we talked about them in the last mine video we did.
radio signals don't travel very far underground. Maybe 200m.
just set up signal extenders
@@blu3_enjoy Too much effort.
But decided to not follow your own said precautions (helmet and ox meter) from the last video? Dudes if you can afford to travel across seas you can atleast afford a pair of gloves and a pack of glowsticks. Do you guys just bait for controversy or are you really that thick headed?
I agree with some good glow sticks and air quality measuring equipment.

Kristen Noelle heehee I see what ya did there...
Whenever you explore a cave or a mine, there is a trick where you never get lost.. ;)
When you enter the cave/mine, just keep following the wall to your left or to your right.. No matter how complex the tunnel system is, you will eventually end up at the entrance where you started (or another entrance if there's more then one) and if you had enough of exploring, you can always just turn around and follow that same wall back to the start, knowing it will take the same amount of time you spent exploring thus far..
This works in all tunnel systems, as well as hedge mazes and so forth! ( ^.^)
True.
But you will absolutely miss out on a lot of places and you know that you do! 😄
@@Ganiscolnot with enough time you won’t. If you always take the first right and when you get to the end of the tunnel you turn around and take the next right then you will work your way around the whole tunnel system

Also, you guys look all but prepared for this kind of exploration.
TCPNick It wasn’t pyrite since it usually doesn’t glitter thhat lightly and is usually a very distinct golden yellow. I was thinking something more like silicate compounds or something like that. Iunno I’m not a geologist, I just know like 2 rocks and that’s about it.
it looks like mica to me but I'm unsure
Boiz r on the money, from what I can see it's a sulfide mine so nickel cu maybe a lil au. Pyrite is common in these types of mines! Due to iron ore being a bulk commodity it is never economic to mine underground therefore I'm super sceptical at it being an iron mine !
student geo btw
Someone practicing in the woods most likely. Sound is carried and just sounded pure genius 👌🏼👌🏼
You guys caught an animal, not sure what it is (rabbit?), it's at exactly 11;17, on the wall there is a yellow arrow up before the exit word, watch on the ground just below and to the left of the arrow, this will start you with enough time to be ready 11:09.
the artist Frog? Maybe a Snake? I dunno.. Just speculation.. Wait,’could snakes be down there?”
@@thedrifter2790 To me it looked like a rabbit or rat, really not sure lol! I wouldn't expect snakes, no food?
That was a puddle of water getting ripples from a reptile moving in it, I think. Also, snakes are hardy as heck and could survive months down there, but I think it was more likely to be a salamander (they’re apparently common in caves, Iunno how they survive but they can) since they’re tied to water bodies.
By the way, nice catch there!
I think it was a giant spider
You go in right as you hear some random 1920s grandma music in the forest..... NOPE NOPE 🏃♂️
the bit where the tracks run parallel is called a passing loop. It allows one train to stop off the line while another passes letting you run two trains on the network
amazing and impressive that you found your way out of there after 6 hours. great job Bryan and Michael!
Lol I live vicariously through yall
I do too! I am claustrophobic and actually had stopped watching, because I couldn't breathe anymore. My father worked in a coal mine for 12 years and I could hear his labor breathing all over the house especially at night.
@@SRay-or3nc yikes!
Sandy Ray labor breathing ? What do you mean ?
I meant labored breathing. You could just hear his very loud heavy breathing.
Heh, talking about wifi. In order to get radio communications in an underground mine, you need it wired with what's called a "Leaky Feeder" - it's a type of data cable that picks up radio signals and transmits them along a wire in such a way that the signal "leaks" out over the length of the cable. A few meters of rock will block radio signals, but the leaky feeder lets it bend around the corners so you can keep in touch with the guy in the parallel drift, or the control room back on the surface, or anyone in between.
Nobody is going go say anything about the pair of eyes looking back at them at 10:22 when they zoom in and look down the drop off 😶😶
You're seeing things. It's just their light being reflected on water.
Looks like Jesus to me
@@dustanbateman3019 what is jesus doing down in a cave

music in the woods was very pleasant. I'd just sit on a log and listen.
Iev been with yall since like 100k subs, you guys NEED to hit 1 mil, im still very surprised you haven't yet. I love your guys vids. PLEASE KEEP IT UP!!
Never seen guys so afraid to get dirt on their hands.
As someone who works in the mining industry, I cannot begin to tell you how dangerous it is to traverse an abandoned mine shaft, one like this that has likely not been maintained in years with the proper protection equipment, let a lone without it. On a side note; the risk of Lyme's Disease and various other infections from an unventilated, bat-infested confined space is astronomical. Why were you not wearing any form of ventilation? I'm lost for words, to be honest. A good video, nonetheless but come on, guys!
10:40 ME TRYING TO PRETEND THAT I KNOW WHAT IM DOING ON MY FIRST TIME WITH MY MAN😂😂😂
The way you guys produced this, with the map animations, super cool. It's like National Geographic
Imagine getting miles deep into that mine and snapping your leg from a fall. Nightmare inducing.
11:06 man, look at that ceiling work. Think about the hundreds of man-hours that were put into just that one bit.
The music in the woods was "Greensleeves"...
No it sounded like it at first but tjey either changed the song or it wasnt it
Dino Dragon they were most likely just playing what came to mind. I do this a lot on ocarina and I find myself mixing green sleeves with song of storms, and Lugia’s lullaby
No it wasn’t
Yea I thought so too but it sounded like they changed songs
I was in the woods once with a friend, and we found a cave there. We went inside, it was small so we had to crouch. A couple of steps in there was a bend to the left which was followed by a drop of about 4-5 meters. We were thinking of going down, but we didn't have a rope or anything to get back up. Anyway, the ceiling above the drop was a bit higher and what we hadn't realised yet was that it was covered in spiders. The whole fucking ceiling had spiders crawling around and dangling down, so we got the fuck out of there. But when we turned around we noticed there were more spiders which we already passed and they were inches above us. We never went down that drop and I'm still curious about what was down there, but I guess I will never know because those spiders terrified me.
honestly those spiders were a blessing in disguise, if youd have went down there with absolutely nothing on you its almost guaranteed youd die
@@moss.asaurus You're probably right, we were pretty reckless and stupid back then. We also climbed a cliff without any gear, one slip would have killed us. And the funny part is that my friend slipped on the summit on a patch of grass. He fell on his ass right in front of the edge, it wasn't funny when it happened though, it definitely knocked some sense into us. It was actually the same mountain in my profile pic.
@@rafox66 damn, im glad yall have learned from then though. couldve been a lot worse.
Great job on the filming and production! The bars at the sealed off adit was so the bats could get in but not people. If you ever want to do a collaboration I have been in hundreds of mines. What about going into the Catacombs under Paris?
Hearing the instrument (trumpet?) In the distance was strangely calming with all the nature noises.
