    I read somewhere that the next Lego movie would be a reimagining/reinvention of the series, but I was not expecting this. However, I think it's a missed opportunity for Animat to say "...or am I going to be tearing this movie apart piece by piece?".

    • @hunterolaughlin
      @hunterolaughlin 13 днів тому

      At this point, a reinvention is the best direction to take these new Lego movies considering the self-aware and meta comedic approach of the original series has obviously worn off with how The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part flopped 5 years ago and that comic style being Lord and Miller’s contribution and influence. Given we know how their reputation is now since the controversy of the behind the scenes production on Across the Spider-verse, it’s definitely for the best to move away from that Lord/Miller style.

  • @hunterolaughlin
    @hunterolaughlin 13 днів тому +16

    I’m not gonna lie, as somebody who’s getting fatigued with these biopic films based on famous musicians trend that kicked off since 2018 with Bohemian Rhapsody, I do admire this biopic on Pharrell taking a unique approach in using The Lego Movie’s animation style as well as how Universal’s been able to resurrect feature length Lego films since The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part wasn’t as critically and commercially successful as the first film and take it in a new direction to differentiate itself from The Lego Movie franchise. I think it’s for the best for future Lego films to shift away from the tone of The Lego Movie franchise considering how it was one of the contributing factors to how the last 2 Lego Movies didn’t do so well due to audience finding the meta and self-aware parody aspect not as humorous as the first film and The Lego Batman Movie and because of how the first film’s directors’ reputation has been tarnished since Phil Lord’s treatment of the animators during the production of the first Lego film, The Mitchells vs the Machines and both Spider-verse films was exposed last year. So in the future, less like The Lego Movie and more like Piece by Piece.

      I have made this comment before on some of Mat’s other reviews from this year, but 2024 is really giving me 2013 and 2017 vibes where there are very few actually good animated movies while the majority of them only ranged from decent to Megamind Vs. The Doom Syndicate (a.k.a Terrible).

    0:54 Fun Fact the director of Rocketman (Dexter Fletcher) directed the last two weeks of Bohemian Rhapsody and was at one point attached to direct Bohemian Rhapsody during its development. Why did he return to direct the last two weeks of Bohemian? Because the director of 4 of the 14 X-Men movies and Superman Returns, Bryan Singer was being a major douche bag during the production of Bohemian Rhapsody. That and both movies feature the character John Reid who played by two different actors from game of thrones. Why am I mentioning it? Because those movies make a fascinating double feature.

    What’s interesting between this and “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” is the aftermath after 5 years since Universal’s time to play with the toys:
    In 2019, two toy-based animated films, including “Uglydolls” and “Playmobil: The Movie”, killed off the trend of capitalizing on the original Lego installment.
    From 2020 to 2023, Warner Animation Group turned their intellectual properties into successful kids’ films, such as “Scoob!”, the 2021 “Tom & Jerry” hybrid, the long-awaited “Space Jam” followup, and “DC League of Super-Pets”, with various critical results, along with cancelling “Scoob! Holiday Haunt” and “Coyote vs. Acme”.
    By 2023, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller faced major controversy for their toxic work ethic on “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, along with “The Mitchells vs. the Machines”, which resulted in one of its key player, Jeff Rowe, to leave the duo to work with Seth Rogen on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” for his healthy work environment.

    I’ll say this is one of my most anticipated movies of this year. While it ain’t from Warner Bros, I always thought the LEGO films were the best franchise there is. With the topic of Pharrell, while I’ll admit I’m not into “pop music” but when it comes to Pharrell’s works I would say he has some great taste in music, I always found enjoyment ever since the Despicable Me films and this does seem like it carries it as well as if it’s a collection of music videos! And with LEGOs being involved is like the best of both worlds!

    ❤️💖 Honestly I am completely shocked 😲 and suprised that he didn't joined Illumination Entertainment to develop an animated biopic film based on his personal life. Considering the fact he did collaborate with Illumination to compose music 🎶 and songs 🎵 of their animated films especially the most repetitive song "Happy." Don't get me wrong, I do loved and enjoyed the song 🎵🎶🎼, it is happy, fun and gay catchy but still Illumination overused this song in their animated movies.
    But overall, I am glad 😊 and happy that he choose this idea 💡 to be an animated Lego Movie. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️

But the other half doesn't because I don't care about Pharrell William's music, personally. I've only heard two of his songs and both were too bubblegum pop for my tastes. I didn’t care for his music either but I needed to kill some time and nothing else interesting was out and I was pleasantly surprised! It’s a 3.5-4/5 for me, animation was really well done and I even learned a few things. There’s music by other artists that he’s worked with in the films too that have so many diff styles that even if you don’t enjoy his I’m sure there’s something you’ll get out of it.

    Hey all you hardcore P&F fans out there, you guys should make a fan-made Phineas & Ferb 2D animated revival series that’s not just for the longtime diehards, future newcomers and even those who haven’t seen the official original Phineas & Ferb series back in 2007 will have both a unquestionably absolute blast and impressively phenomenal 10/10s across the board because it’s seriously THAT fun to watch for good reasons without any signs of pretty meh to downright dumpster fire bad episodes to speak of whatsoever, it’s undoubtably a can’t-miss good funforggetably impressive masterpiece in it’s own right entirely for countless generations to come, official or otherwise, but most importantly, it’s a flat-out must-watch Phineas & Ferb masterpiece experience we’ve ever seen yet in recent memory that can arguably be on par, if not, seriously rival the official upcoming revival Disney Television Animation show itself like you wouldn’t believe call: Phineas & Ferb: New Summer, Same Old, Same Old Impressively Well-Crafted & Spectacularly Awesome Fun Summer Brothers Of ’07 We Still Know And We STILL Absolutely Love’em To Death Today! and the quality of it, especially with the musical numbers, needs to be a downright absolute incredible to Walt Disney Animation Studios-tier levels of outstandingly impressive phenomenal modern day 2D animation sight to behold for all the right reasons why and some, especially compared to today’s official Hollywood animation standards, than your typically average low-budgeted fan projects these days, it’ll genuinely make you believe you’re actually watching a official Phineas & Ferb 2D animated revival series, period. You guys can also watch this Phineas & Ferb series itself either on modern day 4 to 8K Ultraviolet HD DVD and Blu-ray/Blu-ray 3D and/or on the old school retro Walt Disney Home Video videocassette and Laserdisc to make you believe you’re actually right back in the good old 1990’s era itself once again like no time has passed at all to you (not even for the slightest nanosecond), no questions asked!
