Dreamworks may not have the history and longevity of Disney and the consistency of hits that Pixar once had; but when they have a hit, they have a HIT.

DreamWorks was born from all the artists who ran away from Disney.
The creator of the wild robot made Lilo and Stich and Beauty and the Beast.
Then he did how to train your dragon at DreamWorks.
SKG (Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen wanted to do a company that could fight the modus operandi of Disney, which eats everything without giving credit to the artists)

As an elementary school librarian, I'm so happy to see this book turned into a movie. The reason it has multiple endings was because they tried to fit two books into this movie. And there are multiple jumps in the books to speed up the story. It's a book for early chapter book readers, and you have to make sure they are entertained every moment to keep them reading. Hope this clears things up. Can't wait to see it!!

I saw it today with my girlfriend and my son(7). I'm not a crier. We all cried. There are some moments in this movie that hit so hard as a parent, especially a (technically)single parent, that I couldn't help it. Parenting, found family, selflessness, community, this movie hit it all. Also, to second Alan's point, the possum family was a much needed bit of dark humor and levity.

I had the chance to work on a DreamWorks movie once (I was not AT DreamWorks directly, they had sent the production in our studio in Montreal). The Captain Underpants movie. To this day it's still one of the greatest experience I've had in the animation industry. I'm a set modeler and a layout artist (here, layout (or previz), is for camera work, not making the background... that would be an environment artist or a set modeler, depending on the prod!). I hope they continue to develop great projects, when it's good, it's SO good! I don't mind the cashgrab they make on the side though... after all, it's probably what pays for developing original great stories at the same time!
By the way, if you ever want to talk about the production side of 3d animation, I'd love to be part of that! I've been working in the industry for 14 years and am very passionate about it!

This is the first movie in a long time that ever made me cry. "Surprising" is the word I would describe for this film, mostly because I had no idea what I was getting into.
I agree with Alan that there were some pacing issues, so I never knew when the movie was actually over.
I disagree with being a film I'd watch over and over, only because it hit me in the gut with so many emotions, and it could feel too overwhelming at times.

I actually really liked the pacing of this movie. Some movies have a climax that just takes for ever and it drags out to the point I become bored and disinterested, but not here it feels like real live were it just keeps going. And the art is beautiful it doesn't feel overwhelming or too busy not to mention the voice acting, it's so natural and it fits so well with the animals. For sure a 10/10 I have not liked any movie so much since puss in boots.

I recall watching the teaser for it when it came out and the one thing that caught my eye was the animation of this movie will play out and the rendition of “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. Now that I’ve watched the movie today, it was way more than I could ever ask for. Because of my nature enthusiast trait, I knew that it would affect me but I never thought it would hit very deeply, especially when approaching to the climax. I should’ve watch this tonight but I had to improvise due to the options that were given to me. Nevertheless, I enjoyed every second of it and I would agree that this is Dreamworks’ finest movie yet. For those of you who haven’t seen it, do it now or the day after. It’s better that way. Trust me.

The art style was a gorgeous mix of traditional and cgi style and the voice acting was on point. I love how Roz changes in bothed the way she talks and moves the more human she became. I struggle with deep depression, I don't see much light in life but this movie I couldn't pull my eyes away from. For the first time in years, media made me feel something good again. The second meaning of this movie is insane (apart from a beautiful story about the parenting and growing up): so we can see that planet earth has changed completely and only animals survived. So the question of can we go beyond own programme is a question for all humans: can we change our habits as a whole population to save the planet? I find it very subtle and at the same time so powerful.

6:25 I'm 99.9% sure that the portion of the movie when you wanted to make it mandatory viewing for Congress is the same portion that I would like to make core curriculum for every politician - along with a reading list for every Congressional hiatus, including Robert Fulghum's " All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten."
It reminds me of this summer, when I saw a dear friend from high school when they came in from California, and we watched a symphony at Ravinia together which is something that I'd never done before. During the intermission I turned to them -because we were both shaped in our formative youth by the performing arts and having to work together to achieve a public performance- and said "you know what might make our law making body functional? If A requisite of their job was to commit a certain amount of their extra-Congressional time to learning an instrument that they'd never played before for a symphony, so that everybody starts at ground level." You can't copy the homework in the pit, it shows if you practiced or not, and you don't get your own agenda because you follow the conductor and the tempo. The hope for Congress is that you're not going to spend all of your work day dragging a colleague through the mud when you know you're accountable to them, and they have some impact on your success when you must sit next to them in the pit and be humble or have them turn your sheet music; you have to work together or you suffer, or get a bow to the rib and potentially get a flying resin in the eye if you're an obnoxious s***.
That's the same feeling that I got in this movie. It's hardy "substitute teacher vibes" for DC.

I personally really loved this film. The shots and animation were all so well done. I was so impressed with kit connor, coming from a tv show to voice acting is a huge jump. I think I cried either the entire movie or in bits like 3-4 times. I love the strong sense of community, even if you don’t like them, you’ll still help.

I think when Dreamworks really nails it they out-Disney Disney and it sounds like this film is in that category. Will pay the $$ to go see it.

I know you review films, but could you all do a Cinema Therapy episode for the HBO show “THE LAST OF US”? So many powerful lessons about grief/found family, and Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal are both brilliant!

I wasn't expecting much from this movie when I went to go see it, and I was utterly blown away.
The trailers felt like a story I had seen before, and it a way it is, it's a good way. There is a reason why we tell these sorts of stories. It's a story we know because it's a real story, and this is telling it with all of the heart and all the talent.

I love animation and animals, as an animal mom this really struck me. I'm so glad I brought as many tissues as I did because I was definitely crying throughout. I'd recommend it to everyone but have to wait to see it again myself. The score really stood out to me as well! A poorly timed instrumental or lacking one could really make a movie underwhelming, but this one brought out so much energy!

I knew about the book, i only read a sample, but this movie is amazing. Third time i almost cried and i really cried at ine moment. I was pleasantly surprised that there weren't any dumb jokes and the movie didn't shy away from the theme of death, that's not something you see in most movies for kids. Even the talking animals made sense since Roz learned how they communicate! Sadly i was alone in the cinema.

Just got back from watching the movie with my mother. She doesn't often take animation seriously, but she said she absolutely loved it. She didn't say but I think she got teary eyed at a few points in the movie, which doesn't happen often for her. I got to have a lovely experience going to see it with her, so it's already up there for me as far as Dreamworks and general animated films go.

SPOILER: As an adoptive parent, there were several teachable moments that my son and I discussed. The layer for parents about the difficulty of doing our best not always feeling good enough is also well done.
I agree with the pacing bit but the book is similar. For those that like movies to be EXACTLY like the book, be ready but the changes that were made aren't unforgivable.

I wanted to circle back to this video just now to thank you and your behind-the-scenes crew for having reviewed this movie! ❤️
My partner and I went to the movies tonight as the central date night plan to celebrate his 46th birthday. With the cost for two people going to a movie theater nowadays easily costing $50-ish (after soda & snacks) and this one costing around $100 because it was an IPIC theater, we needed to choose only one movie to go see until at least next year. "Wild Robot" wouldn't have even been on our radar if it hadn't been for your UA-cam review of it! We hadn't heard anything about it before your review. It definitely wouldn't have won as our choice if it hadn't been for just how glowing your recommendation was, either! It only narrowly beat out "Heretic" as our choice, after a lot of deliberation.
We both loved it! Such a cute film! 😄 There were some great surprise details in it, too! And, emotionally, it moved both of us to tears! More than once.
Thank you so much for your channel's huge role in "Wild Robot" having been our movie choice for his special day! 💖
