Maybe Brownells should sell your build and Steve's build as a complete kit. It would be a big seller, especially for not having to add every part to the cart... Brn Caleb 22.... Brn Steve 22
I bought one of the Brownells integral rail 10/22 receivers and I love it. However, keep in mind that if you want the option to use 10/22 sights dovetailed into the barrel, you should buy the non-rail version. Also get the non-rail version if you want flexible rail options. I love the Magpul stock, no reservations, and I wish this video was around when I built my 10/22 because it is the best 10/22 build video I have seen so far. Thank you!
Would like to see a takedown build! Also, a little tutorial about how the different stocks deal with the 10/22's poor stock interface. Bedding them is always a hassle.
I've been shooting the fine little Ruger 10/22 carbine for half a century, and I've never used any aftermarket magazines. The standard 10 round magazines have always been just fine for me and the whole family. (When ever we buy one of these guns we ALWAYS get two "Extra" magazines. Thus esch guns have a total of 3 magazines in our family!)
I have built several 10/22's using the BRN-22 receivers and have found them to be excellent. I think they are better than the factory Ruger receiver. The fit and finish are very good and they function flawlessly. The factory Ruger bolt, charging handle/rod and trigger assembly fit perfectly. I like how they are drilled for a cleaning rod from the rear of the receiver, something that Ruger should do. Every once in a while they go on sale. Nice build.
I built mine last year and it’s one of my favorite 22s. Brn milled receiver, faxon fluted bull 16” barrel, tandemkross bolt, (someone’s, can’t remember) match trigger group, Magpul stock with a simple Burris 3-9x40.
So many options, I built mine with the barreled receiver a few years ago and that was one less option to worry about. It's a fun and simple project and shoots well. I need to build another.
I just love to watch your videos Caleb...... You just make everything look so easy....... I built 2 AR's already by watching you...... Now I need a another 10/22 Thanks Caleb!! LOL!!
You're using the Magpul Hunter/X22 stock, but you don't talk about using the harmonic dampeners that are included with the stock, and whether to free float or not...
I saw this video and immediately jumped to the end. I was really curious what torque settings you used on the screw that holds in the barrel/trigger. I have a beautiful 10/22 Tactical Solutions X-Ring in a Hogue stock that I have shot extensively on a 50 yard range. I always use the same ammo (CCI 22LR Mini Mags), but can get wildly different results depending on the torque settings of that one, single screw. When set correctly, I've had dime-sized groupings - and I've been able to repeat that several times. But if it's too tight or too loose - it's all over the place. When you clean the rifle, you have to remove the screw and then redo the torque settings. Which is fine, but it doesn't always seem to work... I find myself checking the torque and readjusting at the range quite often. Could it be a problem with the stock? Ruger and other builders don't share any specs on this (that I've seen but I admit I haven't looked lately) and it seems to be really critical to the performance of this rifle. I'm curious if you have any recommendations or can be more specific about that setting? Thanks!
I’m late to the charger game! I didn’t see a use for one. I found one for the 10 inch for cheapish price. It’s all stock. I’m not sure what to do with it yet. I love my Ruger 10/22s. This is a deep rabbit hole….and can get pricey. I can’t help myself!
I bought a BRN-22 receiver and put an OEM bolt and charging handle into it. Then I immediately turned it over in my hand to jiggle the bolt out. Instead, the charging rod divot hole sheared off causing a MAJOR jam that permanently destroyed the receiver. I haven't even put rounds through it and it's already broken. Turns out aluminum was a bad choice. 🤷
I like the stocks! However I would like a BRN.22 stock that looks more of like a tactical style, or better yet to look more like the BRN180 now that would be cool especially if it were to accept the CMMG style .22 mags, or obviously the Ruger 10-22 mags Anyways great build. I hope to one day be able to build a BRN.22, preferably with a more tactical style stock though.
I've done a couple10/22 builds using 80% receivers, JWH Custom bolts, and Acculite barrels. Sorry Caleb, for not using Brownells' stuff. Anyway, the rifle build uses the Magpul stock (its nice). With the pistol build I fabricated my own chassis from aluminum and wood, looks a little steam punkish. Both shoot good. As an aside, the Ruger 25 round mags are poorly designed. The engagement points are different than the 10 round rotary mags. I had to modify the 25s to work in my pistol because they have too much side-to-side slop. The rifle build is even worse, but the 10 rounders work just fine. Brownells should market some in-house designed extended mags for Ruger 10/22s that work better than Ruger's, I'd buy those.
My Problem with the BRN receiver is the barrel hole is huge. Had to peen my FJ Feddersen barrel at 12,3,6, and 9 o’clock with two peenings in those locations to tighten up the fit.
Does the Brownells company offer a left hand version of the railed receiver and sear/bolt ,A barrel can always be milled to accommodate the left hand ejection !
can you use the stock bolt/trigger for this? i kinda messed up my stock receiver by over torque my screws that hold the weaver rail and now those holes are pretty much done, so was looking to get a new receiver.
I'm interested to know about the firing pin and extractor in the Brownells bolt compared to say Vorquartsen or others in the same quality range. Would it be an upgrade to replace the Brownells firing pin and extractor with something else?
The Victor Company stock i bought did not fit properly... and the owner has given me nothing but a hard time... there was a huge gap between the barrel and the stock...
I assume the stainless ish receiver is also available with a rail? I just saw magpul has a new, less expensive (than the hunter) stock that looks pretty good. I got my first 10/22 (base model, wood furniture) and I'm trying to figure out what direction I want to go first. I'll probably end up building several different ones eventually
Depends on you're state laws but federally as long as it's a bare reciever you should be fine. If you already have a rifle barrel or stock on it, you can't legally make it a pistol. EDIT: I am not a lawyer
@@psycopaintball22 haven’t had the chance to do anything with it yet. Debating if I should do a rifle or pistol. I’m in Texas. You should make a pistol build for that Brn receiver
I have a Bergara BXR Carbon I use for SCSA. The problem getting the bolt in is because the charging handle get cocked and it won't fit into the bolt. I took a right angle flat blade screw driver and thinned it down. Going in from the ejection port I use the right angle screw driver to square up the charging handle and the bolt drops right in.
Caleb, I purchased the exact Magpul X-22 Stock and Stripped Standard Receiver from Brownell's (along with additional required parts). The Receiver (with Ruger Barrel and BX Trigger attached) WILL NOT assemble into the Magpul Stock. Something is wrong or out of spec. Do you have any advice? Brad
it looks really good but it would be over $1000 with that kind of money I can get a 22 Henry lever action with all the bells and whistles so what would the point just the bolt action receiver is $600 this more like a novelty!!!

Yes
I would buy one 😊
Make the 3rd build a complete tricked out kit with the (raw) aluminum like called said lol. Steve does a traditional squirrel hunting type of build
I agree
This 👆
I had no idea of the simplicity of a 10/22 build. Thanks
Love that there's an at4 just casually in the background of this 22 build. Haha
I wonder if the AT4 is the 9mm trainer. I’d love to get my hands on one of them.

Thanks for all the new content guys! Keep it going.
Great video!
That's way easier looking than I had imagined it would have been. Perhaps a future tinker job when I'm bored.
You could also try leaving the buffer pin in the freezer for a few hours prior to installing.

Great video again thank you.
Nice, I’ll be starting a similar build soon.
I put a carbon fiber 17 mach 2 barrel on my last build turned out good
Just got my e.r shaw barrel an it shoots great

If you install the barrel first there is NO worries about destroying the extractor ! 😳🥴🤔
Great video. I wish you would have mentioned the brownells prices.
I love Ruger 1022. The one thing I don’t like about it is the 110 round GSG they don’t work reliably. Especially with my binary trigger.
I love your videos
Wow, need a video on a Brownells out of stock build kit…….

Prefered, free floated barrel pinned in the front on that stock?? Know the issues with 22lr, har has worked the best in that stock
Love

The backpacker Year 2024.😊
Now that Ruger owns Marlin, they really need to bring the microgroove barrels back.
Can someone tell be how Brownells can post videos like this, but other gun youtubers can't have any accessory install videos?
Simply mounting a scope or threading on a suppressor is supposed to be censored by the gods at UA-cam that know better than us!
Having an issue mounting my barrel in my brn 10/22 barrel is Faxon suggestion
nice
I wonder if you used a correct size socket to help get that bolt buffer in the hole.
Does anyone else wish they had the non-railed takedown version?
Does this reciever have a cleaning rod hole, for cleaning barrel from the breech end?
If you have a drill it does!
A list of parts required, including Brownells part numbers, would be very helpful
It's on the video on our webpage
I'm intrigued with the tool set, where do I get that?
Did i miss you mentioning the feature on the magpul stock that you can switch around an insert depending on what diameter barrel you're using?
What's the build cost with these parts?
How much you got? 😂
I wish there links in the description

I realy like the rocket launcher by the safe
My accuracy is best with the action screw set to 15 inch pounds. Varies on each rifle I guess.

I have the same Brn 10/22 receiver. Can I turn mines to a pistol/charger build?

Ok, 10-22 is cool but is that a L.A.W. behind you? Can you show us how to build that? Is there a BRN-LAW kit?

I would like if brownells had longer barrels for sale. 22, 24, 26 or 28 inch barrels
There just is not a large enough fps gain from 16"-18" to justify the extra weight and length with most .22lr cartridges.
@@brownells it's for the guys who are hunting would like the extra length for accuracy.
Take down options?

On the video via our webpage. Unfortunately we cannot post them on YT without risk of removal.
Do you have to have an FFL to order these parts?
The receiver will need to be sent to a FFL
👍🏼
Only if parts were in stock...
I waited so long for a BRN-22 to come back in stock I bought a Faxon receiver instead.
I built a custom 10/22 as well about two years ago. Wanted the BRN receiver but used a Ruger one instead because no BRN were in stock.
