Man people died to suicide/drugs from heavy depression. The real issue here is depression. We just need to start reaching out to that one person who is crying for help.
Dean talking about Scott in the beginning... Man, you can just tell by his eyes that he tried his best but is so sad that it was not enough. These guys sound like great people with big hearts and that's why I'll always support them no matter what.
RIP Layne, Cobain, Weiland, Cornell, Bennington and many others that lost their battle to depression. Whether by accidental overdose or suicide, we will never forget you. Thank you for all that you left behind.
Chester breathed new life into that band, when they were all but dead. All out of sheer love for the music, because he didn’t need the money. And he didn’t really have the time for it, either, as hard as he tried to make it work. You could see how grateful they were to him when they were together. But seeing how devastated STP are talking about Scott makes me dread seeing the rest of LP talking about Chester. It’s going to break my heart all over again.
Nothing but love for all the STP and LP members that lost a their friend, bandmate, a brother❤ Stay strong... and keep on rockin'🎵💙 RIP Scott and Chester *Sorry, but I have to add; RIP Chris Cornell
These two men are so well spoken, it's always interesting to me when Dean, especially, opens up a bit. He tries hard not to, but he does, and losing Scott really hurts him it looks like, not just the death, but as a friend. The sixth album is a minor miracle in how it came together. I'm glad we had a couple of gems in that last stone.
don't be ashamed to just call yourself a fan.... or say I was only just a fan.... especially if being a fan is so much more then just listening to music. when you live the lyrics, it becomes so much more. Love and appreciate the person who was able to communicate these feelings into meaningful music. Music that will never die! RIP Chester, today was the saddest birthday I have ever experienced because you weren't here to help me thru it. But many of my friends were, and I thank them all for being there.
THANK YOU for posting! Robert Dean & Eric are really amazing and strong human beings! This interview was genuine, deep and personal. Such incredibly talented artists wbo passionately love what they do and are always within reach of their true worth, yet its always running away from them. I can only imagine the height that STP's success would have reached if Scott took a different path than the unfortunate one he was on that totally consumed and destroyed him. They came to Vegas a couple years back when Chester was with them and it was an incredible experience to have been part of such a rare moment in Music history ! STP ROCKS!
U listen to this and realize how different Linkin Park is to all other bands. I've never heard LP members say that it was difficult working with Chester or that they considered firing him. I'm not demeaning these guys, they're right in their own stand. But just saying, LP members are really like family....'one for all, all for one' kind! R.I.P. Scott and Chester! U are missed 💔💔
It's true everybody you meet is battling something inside . Depression is mentally physically exhausting . Aniexty too chester and scott were battling demons and we all know demons are tough . Hurt stays in your mind and heart . There's no healing
Some real talent sitting on that couch right there. To have lost not one, but two singers. You can see the astonishment still worn on their faces. Keep on gents! Jeff will will be great and we'll always love STP!
stp, was walking with me during my life, lifting me up from bad time to helping me put things in perceptive while i was down and out. iam a better man for their music thanks a bunch men and one fallen.
I feel so sorry for these guys Chester Bennington was a great singer I miss him Linkin park and stone temple pilots are to of my favorite bands They lost two lead singers and some how are still going strong Scott had a fantastic voice R.I.P. to the legends of STP and Linkin park forever in our hearts 💔💔
RIP Chester. Just too many questions and no real good answers. This doesn't get any easier, just when you think you might have an idea hearing an interview like this throws everything out. The more I hear Chester seemed like a great role model you could look up to.
Chester and Chris Cornell were BOTH silenced.. both was keeping sex trafficking children safe with what if or if only project then they were about to expose pretty big names from The Black Book and was going to bring out a documentary about The Silent Children/ exposing child sex trafficking and exposing people selling children organs some really evil people in this world look it up if you do not believe me
Imagine what they could have been. Talent for days and one of the most enigmatic and captivating frontmen of all time. The brothers Deleo know how to write a song and Scott was the perfect frontman and voice for those songs.
It’s great that now like Alice in Chains have found a good singer so their music won’t get lost and can make some great new music . It’s now a lot more obvious how much input and influence Jerry Cantrell has in AIC .
great band and cool guys, it's unfortunate how hopelessly addicted to drugs/alcohol that scott was and how depressed that chester apparently was. stp is an amazing band, dean deleo is definitely one of my guitar heros, robert is a world class songwriter and eric kretz is a brilliant drummer. it's really sad that we'll never hear the real stp with scott weiland singing for them ever again.....
I saw STP w/Chester almost a decade ago. Awesome show and a lot of good bands on the bill. One moment that really stood out was after interstate love song Chester looked at the rest of the band and said "You guys really know to write a good fucking song!" The way he performed it too he definitely meant it....RIP Scott and Chester...
in my opinion all members of STP play a huge role in the sound of the band. Robert writes a lot of the songs, as well as Dean, thats really what gives them the signature sound that we know and love. This is why a band like STP can live on, and some other bands can't when their lead singer dies.
My brother is passed away. He was a great drummer, and in high school they had a group of musicians that would throw bands together not to keep a band together so much as to throw something together to do some school concert for the fun of it...I went to watch the whole deal at the high school auditorium when they put it on...it was a daytime event, but I was off work, so I went...he could hit that high note in Take On Me, so on that song he just fronted the band...he had good pitch, but it was like "Oh man, is he gonna try to do this tune???" When it came to that note, he ended up having a super strong falsetto, so he hit it full on and the crown in there went nuts, hahaha!...a lot of time me and my daughters will be out together for just a quick drive to grab something to eat, and they know the story of their uncle Mike doing that song, and more often than not, that song will come on...and that song is over 30 years old...so I know what Dean is talking about there...
David Spade has said it himself about Chris Farley: there is only so much you can do for them. They're grown adults, and you just can't CONTROL them. I hope that there is zero guilt in these dudes. Even as the second STP meltdown was happening and Scott was alive, I thought, "the other guys are obviously entirely blameless."
I heard the previews at the time right before its release and knew I had to have the album as soon as it came out! Went and bought both the vinyl and CD and listened to it start to finish. Never mind songs - it's one of those full albums I wish I had written! I also got to see STP live about a year before the s/t album came out. The moment I heard he died, my mind went back to that concert and how fortunate I was to see it.
I feel for the STP guys. You can see the passion those dudes have and to have SO many tragedies its a heartbreaker. Jeff Gutt is doing a great job, I'm glad they're back.
Scott was an amazing talent, I hope he found peace. Chester was ripped away from us. I seen all his acts live, he was the fact of passion and enthusiasm
Scott and Chester you will be missed rest in peace/ As for these guys Dean Robert and Eric no matter what they need to continue even if they have to get back Robert Patrick. It won't be the same without Scott now or ever but these guys a great musicians and should never ever hang up their instruments.
Patrick Lynn I I think that's what I said, Dean Robert and Eric should never stop doing what they're doing. But there are people out there who are saying they should hang up there guitars and drums and quit and I say fuck em. Plus I heard their new singer and I think he's great also ACDC didn't quit when Bon Scott died but now Malcolm is dead so it's all up to them if they want to leave it alone or not.
Scott and Chester were a big part of my teenage and adult life, I still miss them like they were some kind of big brothers, may they both rest in peace.
Thank you guys for sharing your story with us. It had to be hard. Its such a shame that demons got these two awesome singers. I hope there's another one out there so you can make music again.
I'm so happy to see these three guy still being friends, in addition to making music. They were my favorite 90s "Grunge era" band. Also, Lenny's early 90s stuff - Are You Gonna Go My Way?, etc. STP were like the Doors of Grunge Music, regarding their jazz? influence, interesting chord voicings, etc.
No it's not. Chester played a major role in re-introducing this amazing band to young generations since they saw him wearing their shirt in Rock Am Ring 2001
Not at all, also, Chester was amazing live with STP, since their songs aren't as phisically demanding to sing as LP's, Chester could sing 100% of the time on key and without exhausting his voice, so he sounded superb all the time. He is (was) my favorite singer.
Amy Hutchinson I so relate to what you have said. First time I heard linkin park I was in my 30s I heard Chesters voice and was like wow I love this. I went to loads of concerts during the 90s loved grunge and Metal then kind of drifted off listening to anything really. When I first heard about Chris Cornell I was shocked had seen Sound Garden and loved his voice. But Chesters passing has really got to me. It's the songs the lyrics the feelings slot of how I have felt over the years. I can't get enough of linkin Park now. It's so sad he's gone especially for his friends and family but the music lives on.
I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Scott and STP perform live in OKC on October 25, 2009 at Lucky Star Casino around the time they were putting out their new self titled album and then again February 19, 2011 at Winstsr Casino in Thackerville near TX OKlahoma border!
...one of , if not THE best rhythm sections going ....and whatever Scott's demons ....shit he was talented.....both lyrically and as a front man ....jst so hard to replace that ....
They're in a great place now! A fantastic new singer that has his shit together and can write some killer lyrics! He preforms the old songs very well also and the band finally looks like they're having fun on stage! All the best for STP and Jeff on their new journey!
As much as I love the old STP, I really love the new, too. I think Jeff has been a great addition to the band, if for no other reason than to give them a reason to continue playing. Because these guys are still great musicians and songwriters. I've really liked the last two albums with Jeff. "Sunburst" off Perdita (which is a very different STP record than the rest) is one of my favorite songs of theirs.
Dean has the face of a heavy HEAVY drinker and very stressed out person. I hope I'm wrong. I doubt I am. In the early 90s Dean had the most approachable look and was definitely grunge. Seattle or San Diego... maketh not a fuck. STP was THE premier band of the 90s. Above Nirvana, AIC, PJ and SG. Most talented 4 guys since Led Zeppelin.
Robert says he hated making a record like that, but Jesus, that last STP record was an amazing album! How can you hate on something that came out so wonderful? I mean, they are great musicians and I'm sure all bands want that ultimate rhcp experience of man love bro-down, but there are many great musicians who never find a scott weiland to shine the light. These guys could crap out velvet underground david Bowie level stuff with scott half the world away. So what if it takes four takes? Now what are they producing? Well they fired him and now they got no one. Enjoy obscurity and sitting around jamming I guess
I don't know if you're a musician or if you've ever recorded a record through sending mp3's to one another and not jamming in a room but it's not a fun experience. It's annoying and the spark never lights up.
Yeah I didn’t mean to shit on rob deleo. Though I’m sure he don’t care. But I just think that if like Jim Morrison wants to send me mp3’s For me to turn into songs and we get to split the profits? Yeah. I don’t shit on that deal ya know. Same for weiland. These guys don’t fall off of trees.
I enjoyed it but it was not amazing to me. I think what he was saying was they were not a real band anymore because of Scott's addiction. There are good songs on that album though for sure. But it's their weakest effort. It doesn't stack up the other albums. Scott was on his downward spiral.
RIP Scott Weiland (October 27, 1967 - December 3, 2015), aged 48 And RIP Chester Bennington (March 20, 1976 - July 20, 2017), aged 41 You both will always be remembered as legends.
STP, with Scott, will always be a tragic story and "what could've been...". Yes, their records were great and memorable, but how much better and brighter could it all have been had Scott not fallen prey so hard to addiction.
I wish all of them the very best with their new singer. Its their right to continue. Why take away STP because of the demise of others. The three of them are still amazing to see play. Keep going STP.
both clearly had mental illnesses which caused their death. Sucks because they provided me with so many great times and i loved the way they saw the world.
I know that there are HUGE STP fans, but I'm not gonna play the "modest" guy here. I was/am one of them! From collectibles, to YOU NAME IT! I still got Scott Weiland's ticket to his canceled concert in NYC (Irving Plaza) when he was arrested! Not only that...still got the NY Post with the news. But making a long story short, everyone one gave their 2 cents...mostly NOT positive, when Chester joined the band, as if he had STOLEN Scott's spot, which was NEVER the truth, nor his intention! He was just a HUUUUGE STP fan, and in my understanding, was trying to even...help the band! He didn't need it! He was selling out STADIUM tours with Linkin Park and playing 1000-2000 people venues with STP. HOWEVER, not alot of people gave Scott, the same treatment when he joined VR! It was "Magic" (which it was) but you guys get my point? I love and miss Scott...but I REAAAALLY feel for those guys at STP and I know deep inside, that they REALLY, REAAAALLY tried for 2+ decades, to make things work! I wish them nothing but the best...and can't wait to watch them again with Jeff Gutt! Scott & Chester, you both are DEARLY, DEARLY missed! Much love to all STP fans!
It's very difficult for me to understand drug addiction or suicide. I guess I always felt that if things got that bad I could always change my path. I can't help wondering if all that's a fantasy, and that drug addicts and those contemplating suicide are the "enlightened ones". But music is so above anything bad in the world. It SHOULD be what keeps an artist going when they feel like they can't go on. R.I.P. Scott and Chester.
When you watch all the great concerts with S.T.P. It sucks so bad that no one could help Scott with his demons. I would have liked to see a lot more music come from these guys.SO SAD.
Tough decisions made for sure. Scott could've woken up after being fired, but it probably had the opposite effect and these guys have to live with that. Tragic. I still look forward to their music, even with Jeff Gutt.
It was the process of Scott not recording in the studio with the guys that they we're frustrated with. Scott had Don Was as his vocal producer during that time in his own studio. The communication was mainly through phone and emailing vocal tracks.
I was confused with that too. Were they just talking about the demos or something? Personally, I think Scott's vocals are the best thing on that album and the reason why I love it.
sunsfan101981 most likely during the demoing and song writing process, based on some of the performances by Scott live during his last years, I bet vocal scratch takes were probably just god-awful from a production standpoint. And for them to have to communicate that via email, phone, carrier pigeon, etc. and through Scotts new “posse” of leeches and enablers probably made it way worse. They had to bend around Scott’s vices and make the recording process 100X harder than it had to be if they were just all in a room together. It was a good record at the end of the day, but it sounds like it was all work and no play.
Chester was STP's frontman by 2013, but was out of the band by 2015ish. How come we never heard what happened there? They were so excited to have him in the band, and then like that.... he split with them, and then within 2 years he ended his life. Does anyone have the story on that?
He felt he was away from family for too long and broke his leg on top of it. He wanted to continue doing STP because he loved it, but he decided it was too much to front two bands at the same time. And so he left amicably to focus solely on Linkin Park.
I remember reading that at the height on their success and Scott's addiction, instead of doing the right thing and giving him the time to get healthy they tried to force him to pay them for the time he needed to go to rehab. That's what broke the band up. I like the crackhead DeLeo rose colored version though.
I see it the same way, Daveyboy. We may never know what truly went on behind the scenes in STP while Scott was still there, since each of them will tell the story in a way to make themselves look good. But I did notice in a lot of interviews, even from back in 2013 when they had just fired Scott and when he was still alive, that they had nothing but crap to say about him. If he read or saw these interviews then it's no surprise that that made him more depressed and he most likely volunatarily died from an OD. (I'm not a fan of Scott's music, but I did read his book, and he just seemed like a normal guy who wanted to do things right, wanted to please the people around him, had tried to get clean & sober multiple times, but I think the acts (or should I say wrongdoings) of other people always made him fall back into it).
Chester Talk: 3:10 onwards
Toosie N Noosie thanks !
Fuck Chester. He's a loser piece of shit. Scott is STP.
Dave Barnett No FUCK YOU, your piece of shit!!!
Toosie N Noosie f u maybe some of us wana hear bout scott weiland too
Angel Sd NO most of us dont.
R.I.P. Scott
R.I.P. Chester
Uh you forgot about Chris too :'(
resistance1207 Layne died in 2001 not quite the same
Not the same, but all huge grunge vocalists. Layne was my fav.
And Kurt...
Man people died to suicide/drugs from heavy depression. The real issue here is depression. We just need to start reaching out to that one person who is crying for help.
nobody talks about shannon hoon as well.. blind melon became one of my favorite bands in the 90s

That’s a heavy list man....such an amazing era of music and still stands

"Chester breathed new life into that band, when they were all but dead." No pun intended?
this poor band has watched not one but two great frontmen tragically self destruct. i can't imagine
The look on Dean's face whenever he talks about Scott is heartbreaking!
Man! Those guys have been through the ringer.
Their faces are touching, especially the one in the middle :/
Dean has the most emotionally weathered look.
@@Head318Hunter I'm fairly sure he's the eldest of the group. Robert is like 5 years younger
@@muskratwiser4700 he is. Dean is 60 (as of writing this), Robert and Eric are both 56.
'he gave everything he had',thats how chester lived indeed, he gave more then he could most of the time, peace dear chester♥
Nothing but love for all the STP and LP members that lost a their friend, bandmate, a brother❤ Stay strong... and keep on rockin'🎵💙
RIP Scott and Chester
*Sorry, but I have to add;
RIP Chris Cornell

Yep indeed. Rip Scott , Chris and Chester, rest easy guys
It warms my heart as a Chester and LP fan that many artists have acknowledged Chester even after death. He will always be missed.

Yes. As a singer, Chester was VASTLY inferior to Scott Weiland. Chester was not even fit to lick Scott's asshole.
I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Scott and STP perform live in OKC on October 25, 2009 at Lucky Star Casino around the time they were putting out their new self titled album and then again February 19, 2011 at Winstsr Casino in Thackerville near TX OKlahoma border!
Thanks for the soundtrack of my life guys. Sorry for your rough ride.
...one of , if not THE best rhythm sections going ....and whatever Scott's demons ....shit he was talented.....both lyrically and as a front man ....jst so hard to replace that ....
So true..
They're in a great place now! A fantastic new singer that has his shit together and can write some killer lyrics! He preforms the old songs very well also and the band finally looks like they're having fun on stage! All the best for STP and Jeff on their new journey!
I just got chills...
Love STP. SCOTT. CHESTER.
Agreed was a great album
God bless STP!
Robert, Dean, and Eric have been through absolute hell from what they've described. They are STP.
RIP Scott Weiland (October 27, 1967 - December 3, 2015), aged 48
And
RIP Chester Bennington (March 20, 1976 - July 20, 2017), aged 41
You both will always be remembered as legends.
Respect.
STP, with Scott, will always be a tragic story and "what could've been...". Yes, their records were great and memorable, but how much better and brighter could it all have been had Scott not fallen prey so hard to addiction.
NOTHING BUT RESPECT FOR YOU.
Never was a Linkin Park or Chester fan but know have a whole new appreciation.
Had no idea he did STP great set
I wish all of them the very best with their new singer. Its their right to continue. Why take away STP because of the demise of others. The three of them are still amazing to see play. Keep going STP.
both clearly had mental illnesses which caused their death. Sucks because they provided me with so many great times and i loved the way they saw the world.
Mo Both were sexually abused and had shit parents. Abuse ruins your life
I want to hear more from these guys!
Much love to all STP fans!
great interview. Really love these guys
R.I.P. Scott and Chester.
these guys have been to hell and back. I can only wish them well and hope they can continue to make new music and enjoy their new singer.
The drummer talks to much! He should let the others get a word in sometime.
the drummer only talks a few words xd
😆
I just wrote something to that same effect. I guess I'll delete it now I've read your comment.
That’s not the drummer, it’s Tommy Shaw from Styx and He doesn’t know any of the answers, he’s just in the wrong interview.
Hahahahahaha
Man, Erick just sitting there like "I could be watching Netflix instead"
When you watch all the great concerts with S.T.P. It sucks so bad that no one could help Scott with his demons. I would have liked to see a lot more music come from these guys.SO SAD.
Tough decisions made for sure. Scott could've woken up after being fired, but it probably had the opposite effect and these guys have to live with that. Tragic. I still look forward to their music, even with Jeff Gutt.
nice opinion from the drummer (y)
love you and will always support you..been through hell. I am so sorry for all you went through xoxo
"Everyone you meet has a battle inside you know nothing about" --that's a good one.
In a way Chester saved them too, what a awsome guy he was.
Hey guys, I'm hoping you find singer soon and bring us some more great tunes.
The bass player said the realest shit in this
a bit confused. Did they not like the final vocals of their last album? Cause I think the vocals are amazing.
It was the process of Scott not recording in the studio with the guys that they we're frustrated with. Scott had Don Was as his vocal producer during that time in his own studio. The communication was mainly through phone and emailing vocal tracks.
me too. Not my favorite album, but the vocals are spot on.
It was a good record at the end of the day, but it sounds like it was all work and no play.
awesome guys
So um, does Eric ever talk?
Love them DeLeo brothers.
Chester was STP's frontman by 2013, but was out of the band by 2015ish. How come we never heard what happened there? They were so excited to have him in the band, and then like that.... he split with them, and then within 2 years he ended his life. Does anyone have the story on that?
No Gas Productions He decided it was too much
He felt he was away from family for too long and broke his leg on top of it. He wanted to continue doing STP because he loved it, but he decided it was too much to front two bands at the same time. And so he left amicably to focus solely on Linkin Park.
I fucking love STP.
John Calipari
David Spade
Steven Tyler
Damn!! Nailed it
It's almost like STP has been stolen from them. That energy and that atmosphere died with Scott.
trashing Scott now ..What fucking dicks and chester wouldn't get 10 seconds of time outta my day...
Dennis Leavitt I hope they do..He was a great guy that was just feeling all the pressures of his ex wife and her gold digging addiction....
Daveyboy your time is worth jack shit , stop talking like you're somebody.
Wonder what the STP members felt when Velvet Revolver was playing their songs with Scott?
They did not care.
0:56 jesus christ lmao. that tone smh. these dudes are intense.
The reason it didn’t work out is you can never replace Scott
army of anyone
Great fucking interview
I would be honored to take on Linkin Park's legacy, but I'm female and my voice isn't as strong.
Do you do any songs / covers?
@@nicolobalestrino I want to
