He seemed pretty embarrassed at the time. He knew he got it purely because of his popularity in Norway. "Peace" is such an absurd, subjective term, anyway. The Allied soldiers in WWII killed huge numbers, yet they contributed more to international peace than anyone ever. Truman, by dropping 2 nuclear bombs, set an example that greatly reduced the overall number of deaths had an invasion been forced, prevented WWIII and greatly reduced the number of war dead over time.
@@Christobanistan Yeah, I might not have used the US nuclear bombing of Japan, itself arguably a war crime due to mass targeting civilians, to send a message to the USSR as an example of peace making and not a fairly explosive signal of the Cold War beginning in full swing. Especially since it's contribution to Japans unconditional surrender continues to be intensely debated, and potentially only being an additional concern on top of the Russian's, with their revolutionary record of chopping off imperial heads, invading Manchuria and with eyes on Hokkaido. In general, probably a very poor example, a war crime that signalled the beginning of US-USSR competition in earnest that would reap millions and millions of deaths in Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, and indirectly funded the devastating Cold War conflicts in Africa that the continent still arguably has yet to recover from. No, the nuclear bombings don't stand for peace but mass murder, death, and military chauvinism.

+mehdi. I live in Norway and have read enough local articles on the subject both in modern times and when it happened. The main reason Obama got the Nobel peace prize was because of what he ran on and that people really thought he was the type of change the US needed. A "FDR 2.0" type guy and in turn the comity, under the leadership of Thorbjørn Jagland which is a bit eccentric even if he is a decent politician, gave him the prize as an attempt to have him lean more and harder towards the policies he ran on and start to play a bit more hardball etc with the senate and such to get things going. - Obviously, Obama turned out to be a red herring that in turn didnt do enough and ironically got Trump indirectly elected.
@@Lobos222 They obviously didn't know a thing about Obama, including the illegal tactics he used to win his Senate seat, then barely showed up for his Senate office before he started running for President. Isn't the peace prize suppose to be for real accomplishments? Seems like the committee was doing nothing but projecting there "hope and change " onto Obama.

hhhahahahhah Nordic countries really tough, they are just reaping of the benefits of turmoil more like sailing onto it steering in their best interest because they are nothing without turmoil nothing to stay neutral in or be the observer of. They may have science, technology, and money but where does it really come from conflict, war criminals, criminals and corrupt business, corporations while you and I are just gears in this chain of clockwork we call reality.
The biggest issue I see with the Peace Prize is that you can only give it to a person or organization based upon what they've done in their past, and their "plans" for the future which don't always pan out. Unfortunately, we human beings can't actually view the future. And honestly, all people are fallible, we all sin, we all make small and major mistakes. The higher up on the food chain you go, the bigger those mistakes can be. I'm sure, in 1991, Aung San Suu Kyi never imagined her nation taking the turn it has taken today. Even recently, with Abiy Ahmed, I'm sure he didn't plan on what is happening now in Ethiopia. But there are some names missing that I don't even know if they were considered or not. What about Paul Kagame, the president of Rwanda? Hutu or Tutsi, his population adore him, and he has changed Kigali in record time, from a mass genocide and war to "The Singapore of Africa". Some people on the outside looking in think he's a dictator, but what kind of dictator does what Kagame has done in just 2 decades? Last interview I saw with him, he was genuinely concerned about his country and what would happen after he is gone. "Benevolent dictator", maybe. Authoritarian? Absolutely not. But can the void be replaced when he's gone by someone who will spark tensions again? Absolutely. Maybe Kagame should be considered for bringing not only peace, but also prosperity, to a nation that suffered a brutal genocide. In contrast to Ahmed in Ethiopia, there is one thing to consider. He inherited a nation in turmoil. He isn't going to be able to fix it overnight. There are hundreds if not thousands of ethnic tribes throughout Africa and even those who have lived side by side since the dawn of human civilization hate one another. If you really want to place blame somewhere concerning the various conflicts throughout Africa, blame the Colonizers (yes, I know that Ethiopia and Liberia were never officially "colonized", but that doesn't mean that the countries that bordered them kept everything in their own areas, if you understand what I mean). Every single leader that comes to task in any African country has far more hurdles to jump over than just about anywhere else in the world, thanks to the slave trade and the "scramble for Africa".

What was honest about Snowden exposing the truth? Was it wanting Snowden sentenced as a traitor? Or was it Obama continuing to get rich off the more people he bombed?
He seemed pretty embarrassed at the time. He knew he got it purely because of his popularity in Norway. "Peace" is such an absurd, subjective term, anyway. The Allied soldiers in WWII killed huge numbers, yet they contributed more to international peace than anyone ever. Truman, by dropping 2 nuclear bombs, set an example that greatly reduced the overall number of deaths had an invasion been forced, prevented WWIII and greatly reduced the number of war dead over time.
@Mjolnir C. What do you mean by it's not democracy?

Because he was black while being President I guess, or for his whole "Hope" campaign, at least they didn't give Trump one

The title makes it seem like a video from The Onion
Just don't give peace prizes to people of power, because we all know what power does to people.
We judge things for their endings.
It’s all political, they don’t care about the true actions of these “winners”
