Yeah but the difference is the crazy things that some Americans believe are things that are spread and facilitated by political-oriented groups of all sizes, including Governmental entities , both foreign and domestic, including Russia, China, and Iran to name a main few. Governmental entities like the 'Internet Research Agency' and '50 Cent Army' who hire people to pose as Americans or otherwise and troll online, sowing seeds of deceit; like the past two presidential elections for example. Russia used millions of fake facebook and twitter accounts and used misinformation to confuse American voters using something called 'outrage tactics', and I'm not referring to the collusion/Mueller report. Trump would not even need to ask Putin for help to win the election because naturally it's in Putin's best interests if the President of the US is Republican/Conservative because their core values are more aligned than that of the alternative party. Regardless of your political standings, this is well documented and easily accessed on government websites with official documents from congress, all public record. Anyway, modern wars are becoming more about technology than anything else. I realize I risk sounding like a nut to some people at this point and that's ok; But I don't believe that Russia's involvement in foreign politics and the Ukraine invasion as well as many other recent events are isolated events or coincidences. I'd say we're already at war on the cyber front with misinformation being a soldier's ammunition, and that Russia's recent invasion into Ukraine is really just an excuse and means to probe at the US' military tech arsenal (without actually having to declare war against the US itself), like the Javelin's (anti-tank weapons) we've recently given to Ukraine in order to protect themselves from Russia's well known Tank arsenal. By the way, the IDEA of the Javelins was conceived during the Cold War. If I've piqued any reader's interest, I would suggest looking up the youtube video ''How powerful are javelin missiles'', and then you would probably understand where I am going. This guy is jokingly saying that billions of birds were killed and replaced by an equal number of surveillance drones overnight by the same government that took ages to get it's act together after the pandemic hit, a pandemic mind you that was very much warned about yet no preparations were made. I don't really have to explain much further how ridiculous the conspiracy theory is, but I do want to stress how harmful it is to just preach something like that to the public. Because you never know who is gonna hear it, how gullible they are, how they could become obsessed by that one conspiracy theory and revolve their entire lives around it and in turn infect others the same way. To put it into perspective, think about the many different religions of the world and the millions to billions of people that adamantly believe in the biggest absurdities. You just have to be careful, especially in times when random twitter posts with strong political context is put in the spotlight of the media with a magnifying glass. Single individuals and small groups become very loud political parties through the use and exploitation of social media. Like I stated previously, misinformation is a soldier's ammunition these days. Aside from that, I find it irresponsible to applaud this approach towards political beliefs. Everything is already made into a meme these days, this whole comment section is Gen Z essentially saying ''Every aspect of life around us has been made a joke, why not just treat everything as a joke anyway'' and that attitude/mentality can grow like a weed. All in all, we can't control how people will react to things but we can control the things we choose to say, repeat or facilitate. Arm yourself with real knowledge and make sure you know what you're talking about before talking about it, otherwise you are doing more harm than good.

I don't live in the US and never heard about this. It's so interesting. People where I live don't understand satire. I used to teach a critical thinking and writing class where I used some famous satire like Swift and Twain. I thought it's just the time periods of the pieces. It was a Catholic junior college, so I used an essay called "All Seven Deadly Sins Committed at Church Bake Sale" by the Onion. I had to read it out loud to them. The US evangelical churches have moved in and taken advantage of people believing anything. Even though I live in Central America, the US conspiracy theories take hold here very quickly. I love seeing these young people doing this thinking performance satire. It's inspiring to know not all young people follow anything available. Kudos to the movement and to Vice for providing such interesting documentaries.
Thank you for sharing this! It's eye-opening to see the worst of American politics cascade into other countries. I am horrified at the spread of far-right conspiracy theories. The only way to stop demagogues who wilfully spread lies is to armor people with an education and the ability to use critical thinking to understand proper sourcing.

@@Dmed133 he started with 1 sign that was satire and went to a protest rally to make fun of them. it went viral and now he sells merch. its basically a t shirt brand
The cool thing about this kind of satire, is that people with sincerely held crazy beliefs will probably try to debate it, inadvertently teaching themselves how to use basic critical thinking that they can then potentially, eventually apply to their own ideas and beliefs. I did something similar with my mother once. She was going down a certain online conspiracy rabbit hole hole, eating it up, and mindlessly regurgitating it any chance she got. I remember asking her, "what kind of evidence would convince you that you're wrong?" to which she replied "I don't understand, it's true so no evidence could possibly prove me wrong". So I invented an entire conspiracy theory about something I knew she would try to debate, as it was related to something she cared deeply about. I eventually managed to catch her out, as she would try to apply logic to my "beliefs", that she had made herself exempt from. She soon stopped talking about her conspiracy theories.
If you stop someone from a belief that maybe true? That doesn't make you right! The problem is they do use all kinds of things. All your mom had to do was Google patents and download them. Then she could have shown you evidence in various highly respected science, tech, biology journals to support her stance. Idk what conspiracy she was into, but most of the time people are simply to lazy to do the research and see that the alleged conspiracy theorist was in fact correct. Many are not true, but many are.
@@1993magen Oh I agree. I reckon most of them are at least mostly true, one way or another. Birds aren't real should take the proceeds of merch sales & fundraisers and put them towards preventing birds from actually being not real. Bird populations around the world have been drastically declining in the last 50 years. 90% of common birds are gone, over 50% of grassland birds gone, forrests around the world have lost over a billion birds in total. It's likely many bird species will experience a mass extinction event in the next 50 years. This guy has enough clout and platform presence to help people change that.

He could give himself a 150k a great salary for all i care, the point of a not for profit company is not to have people work for free, it's to take all profit above costs and put that towards a cause. Love how half of Americans actually believe much crazier things than birds being a hoax. Brilliant and necessary satire.
Lol which half?
@@Kushien … agree with everything you state above… with one exception. Satire/comedy is the most effective weapon against the barrage of right wing/Russian misinformation and trolling.

My question is does everyone know it's just a joke or do some members really believe that "birds aren't real"? That would be hilarious
No one really believes it, it's just an internet joke. Got to admit it is one of my favorite
It was always clearly a great satire, I'm wondering how those interviewers didn't get it 😭. Maybe because they deal with crazy people on daily basis.

Likewise, I've been in Kumamoto for the last 4 years and I'm literally returning to the States this week. So I'm super excited that birds aren't real. :)
I agree, turn it into a postive movement
and then how would he pay for food? why should he have to donate all his time and income to make you feel better about not doing anything?
@@swankshire6939 lol it's okay to be full derp, i still love you. I've worked for non profits in the past, and even companies who fundraise for a specific action. If he was to convert to a non profit he would give himself a salary which is included in the cost of maintaining the non profit. He could give himself a 150k a great salary for all i care, the point of a not for profit company is not to have people work for free, it's to take all profit above costs and put that towards a cause. Now if he decided not to transition into that and instead wanted to formulate a specific fundraising event like teamseas he could create a specific line of merch which when sold would have a percentage go directly towards a cause.
