The first seasons with Simon were much better than the final ones with Mark (though not as good as the early ones with Mark, mainly due to the guests they were booking at that point)
RFC3514 I don't think that's entirely true. I recall a story Bill Bailey once told about how the producers were moving the filming of the shows around a lot. That is why he couldn't make some of the episodes of the last series he did; he was touring and he couldn't be in the studio to record a few episodes at 11am. That also troubled them to book guests. Lamarr was also kind of bullied by the producers into weird timeslots he didn't feel comfortable with and sometimes couldn't make without cancelling pre-agreed meetings. That tickled him off. But he was apparently violent once to someone backstage and I remember a podcast of a comedian (an Irish bloke named Mark iirc) where he said Lamarr kicked him on the chest and how that sort of lead to his demise. Also, his musical references were probably more comprehensible for the audience following those guests (in other words, they were hoping to attract new viewers). A reference to George Clinton kind of flies over the head of most Hanson fans. But I guess in the end he got tired of the formula, and he decided to go do stand-up and his sitcom instead. End quote.
roblinssen88 - Amstell didn't book the guests, the producers did. And I'm pretty sure he also got the feeling that they were deliberately booking stupid guests because that had become the format, and that's why he (and Bill) left.
Phill (and Noel) stayed, and the show didn't exactly get better. In fact, it kind of died, and would probably have died several years sooner if it wasn't for Amstell.
BTW, I wouldn't trust anything I read on the Sun. Noel personally denied (through his Twitter account) ever making the comments you linked to above:

Pete was ahead of his time, most women on Insta and OnlyFans look like a variation of him these days.
the banal bickering with the inane
Pete Burns was a legend.....a genuine person
Love Pete 💖
Brilliant. I miss Pete Burns. Icon
You could hear the tumbleweeds !!!
Reece Shearsmith should play Mark lamarr 😂
*HELLO DAAAAVE!*
I really wish i could have met pete
pete rocked.
It's not very often you see someone get the better of Pete Burns in an argument but Mark Lammar won hands down
As if. Pete wiped the floor with the vile homophobic twat.
Bollocks.
COwens So what? Homophobia takes many different forms
Booby Manfanny / absolutely spot on...Pete knew he couldn't go verbally with lamar because lamar insanely quick with dark satirical one liners
Really? I don't know what clip you were watching because I'd definitely say Pete won.
You'll Never win an arguement with a scouser.
Am I the only one thinking Pete burns looked like the angelina jolie waxwork if it was left next to an open fire for a good few hours?
It was a very early end for Pete Burns. It is a shame that he never conquered whatever demons he had. Those endless and hideously botched surgeries must have taken toll on his health.
I will publicly admit I was not a fan of his music, and his CBB appearances were true car crash TV!
But the man needed help, not ridicule. It's a shame he didn't get help 😢
Mark
Bless Pete
Your both fabulous
Makes me proud to be English
I miss never mind the buzz cock
The fabulous Mark lamarr
And our heavenly gawjus Pete

Burns is brilliant here. Fun programme.
Not many people could argue with Pete and come out of it well. Well done to mark Lamar
There’s a reason why Mark Lamarr hasn’t been on TV for years.
Sean and Pete, both gone. Brilliant show!
Love pete forever 🌹🌹🌌🌌🦋🦋🐦🐦
Go Pete!!
Maybe a rare occasion when someone actually owned Mark.
Went blow for blow with a professional comedian and won! Sharp as.
