    Anthea's reaction: the right way.
    Preston's reaction: the wrong way.
    The moment you show Simon you're actually pissed off, you've lost it. The only way to handle him is to laugh along with him. I love Simon, and this is why I never had a problem with what some people saw as his cruelty: so long as you could laugh at yourself, he was utterly harmless. Only if you took yourself too seriously would you have a problem.

      +Buffoon1980 i only used to watch because i was hoping one day a guest might punch him never happened though, what is the point of booking the guests if you are going to destroy them its a good way to never be able to book anyone again, he always destroyed the show turning it back to himself, rather then the guests. he made the show garbage, noel and phil couldn't have much input so there was no entertainment just roasting guests

      Anstell's humour had a time limit on it just like Ali G did, once people learnt he is a one trick pony, and his "victim" knows he's just been an a-hole he's liable to get a punch in the face.

    • @Tamashi88
      @Tamashi88 4 роки тому +24

      @@michaely6665 you know he's still creating right? He doesn't do TV very much but since leaving buzzcocks he did a sitcom and at least two dvds (one might be streaming though) as well as directing at least one movie. His stand up has never been the same as his hosting and is actually quite sweet from what I remember. I watched Numb I think when it came out.

    • @krashd
      @krashd 8 років тому +59

      Jupitus, Fielding, Bailey, etc are formulaic, they are absolutely hilarious but they run along predictable lines, the reason Simon is not a big celebrity is because he is unpredictable, he doesn't go in for the happy-funny punchlines, he tries to touch a nerve and then sieze upon it for more laughs. This puts other comedians on edge, comics don't like being the butt of other folks jokes.
      He made a point of never attacking comics and only attacking guests but it still didn't put the hosts at ease because they know what he is like. When they jab at him, he jabs back worse. His speciality is tearing someone down. Simon started out as the teenage host of a saturday morning kids show where he would eviscerate adult guests as a faux news reporter, he learned a lot about pushing buttons at an early age.

    Reported for misleading title. 1;06 he didn't ridicule the book, he only read or saw it.

    Given they were married just over a year, I don't know why Preston got so huffy.

    That's definitely true. I'm sure that book is completely ridiculous. But when you make the foolish decision to marry its author you have to stand by her, you know? ;)

    At the time I always took Amstell for an a**hole. Like he really just thrived on making other people feel small. Now I look back on it... I still think that. 🤣

    I do wish he'd take over NMTB again, his stand up is okay but everything else he's done has been abysmal. But he was pretty good on this show and the guest host shtick stolen from HIGNFY just doesn't work as well for NMTB (Possibly because there are only two regulars out of seven people or maybe they just book shite hosts).
