Wonder if you could dual purpose this? Thinking about throwing insect netting over the frame or shade cloth late in the summer
@@TheTamrock2007that would definitely work. I hadn’t thought of that. Great idea.
For my vinyl fence we use over the door hooks from the dollar store and put two or three per panel. Use trellis netting and secure the bottom. I grew peas up it last year. This year im gonna try cucumber too. Easy cleanup too!
That’s a great idea. Love the over the door hanger idea.
This was perfectly timed for motivation! Just built my first wire trellis this morning have 3 more to go!
You got this! 💪
Have you ever used your corn plants to grow your dried beans? Plant some of your winter squash amongst them and you've got yourself a three sisters garden.
Yes! I love that method. I didn’t grow corn this year but I have plans to do it next year
I have 3 folding wire "A" frame wire trellises that are easy to fold and move I brought them years ago and they are holding up very well. They would also be easy to make using wire fencing just cut 2 panels to the size you want and hinge them together at the top using some wire. They will open as an A frame. I also have several concrete wire ladders that I purchased at Home Depot that I use for arch trellises for $5 each. Its always fun to come up with different trellis ideas to see what works best for your plants. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Happy spring gardening. 😊
I love the idea of attaching the wire fencing to the A frame. I’m stealing that idea. Thank you!
I had a free delivery from Tractor Supply so I used it for cattle panels! I mean they’re 16’ long! I’m going to cut one into 4’ sections and use zip ties to make 2 A-frames out of them.
I have also used various limbs and skinny trunks as support stakes.
Great idea! I’m in love with A frames
I use three different types of trellising. The first is an 8L x 4w x 7H trellis tunnel made with two sections of cattle panel joined together in the middle. The second is two panels made of hog-wire fencing supported with Crape Myrtle branches that is used for snow peas, The last is a six foot long, three foot wide, and three foot tall arched trellis that is made of nine foot long hog-wire sections joined together. It is supported with three Crape Myrtle branches, one on each end, and one in the middle. It spans a 3ft wide, 6ft long raised bed which I use for Hearts of Gold cantaloupe, and Sugar Baby Watermelon.
It sounds beautiful! Great job 👏
Great ideas, thank you.
My favorite is the dried sunflower stalk and I have also used the small obelisk. Thanks for the great ideas.
The sunflower stalks are so sturdy once they’re dried. It’s crazy!
I use all thouse except the the a frame. I would like to try that. Im wondering if the fencing instead of netting would be sturdier
I also use the fence with T post to border my garden from chickens like in my videos. I love using the t post for temporary fencing and move it around with my garden needs. So many uses for t post, fencing and zip ties.
TIP:
when you go to home depot or wherever you buy the fencing there are more often than not damaged rolls from shipping. Ask for discount for damged roll. It is not important if bent etc. i have gotten up to 20 percent off then i add my military discount at home depot for additional 10 percent off. 😉
I do want to make a cattle panel t post arch. Just not sure where i want it yet.
Those winter squash, 🤒 😂. I can make jokes with those.
Haha! I know. They are too funny. We love the HD military discount. It’s so helpful. I’ll check out for bend fencing. That’s a great idea
I like the sunflower stakes, good idea for a free item
And you get to enjoy the pretty blooms of the flowers before you dry them.
Beautiful ideas. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
hi just found your channel this morning love it! No distracting awful music in the back you give great tips and even though I live in southern New Hampshire and cannot grow the way you do I can still apply all your information in terms of knowledge for my short season and I appreciate your Contant so much just subscribed thanks for what you share!
Thanks so much for subbing and your kind words 💚
@@HomegrownFloridaZ9a I am LOVING(!!!!!) each of your videos, so happy to have found you. Home from having surgery for carpel tunnel so unable to do much at the moment so binge watching your videos this am.. will leave an emoji for a comment if nothing else just so I tuck a comment in, but not for lack of comment just due to wrist situation, microphone Doesn’t always pick words up properly lol I hope you have a great day hope your weather is nicer than ours in the 40s overcast raw
@@elizabethhendriks9030I hope you heal up quickly so you can get back out in the garden 🤗
@@HomegrownFloridaZ9a Thank you, I actually made a decision that it will be minimal this year because I have to have the other hand done this Fall so will not have the ability during that time to harvest and preserve. However, I just purchased a greenhouse so I will be jumping. right in early March next year! I just watched many of your videos and they are very inspiring! Happy Monday😊
Heath comes first. Meanwhile you can do the ultimate planning and get a bunch of fun inspiration from videos and pictures. The garden will always be there once you are better 💚
Thank you so much for that information. 👍😉
My pleasure!
I have been using fencing for cucumbers, butternut squash, zucchino rampicante, pole beans, and melons, but not with tomatoes. I wil have to try that method this summer.
I’m doing it this year and have totally fallen in love with it
Thanks for sharing your Idea love it❤❤
You are so welcome!
Another negative of the tomato cage is the rabbits can get in, they wiped out my triple crown BlackBerry bush.
😡 Rabbits are the worst
Great ideas! 👍
Glad you like them!
I'm 5 feet tall and weigh 100 pounds. I have attempted to use the post driver with the 6 feet tall T Posts by myself. I don't recommend! The driver is extremely heavy! You will hurt yourself....or lose your religion much to the shock of any neighbors within earshot. Get assistance.
🤣🤣🤣 I know how you felt! I enlisted my husband
How you use it on 6 ft poles. Put driver on t-post then raise post. Or get a stool or ladder. Or get a man! Really no need for 6ft post unless for cattle or horses though
They come in different weights. I've had the same issues
I did the same last year. Had to promise the hubby a cold ice cream treat to help me. 😂
That’s about all pex pipe is good for. Am i right plumbers!? 😂😂
Great video! That's my next task. Then irrigation.. any ideas for that? I'll be searching. I got a 🌧️ rain barrel ready on one side for slow drip hose and planning on using a rain chain ⛓️ into a garden drain pipe buried leading right to my banana 🍌 🌴 and compost cresent moon 🌙(bc not full circle lol) 😂😂
Those sound like awesome ideas. I’d definitely go with drip for irrigation
Thank You for a wonderful and comprehensive video on all types of styles of trellis’s❤
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for sharing. It's been expensive to buy trellis materials after buying soil, raised bed, etc.
That’s so true. I used a lot of the free options my first few years then started adding a new one each year.
Your garden looks great, I kinda missed the boat this year😢
Each season is a new chance. It’s one of the best parts of gardening!
It's not too late!
Nice dear ❤
Thanks 🤗
Thank you very much for these tips and I am going to try grow up my wooden fence.
Awesome! Good luck
Awesome! Good luck
Great video. Also check out mason ladders.
Thanks! Will do!
I love ur videos ❤I love gardening too ❤
Thanks so much 😊
We are buying house in Pensacola FL. I’m so excited do gardening there currently we are here in Alaska so hard to do gardening 😞
@@laniemccann4142oh my, that’s a very difficult climate lol. Here in FL you can grow all year round and there is a ton of fruit tree options
@@HomegrownFloridaZ9a yes I’m watching ur videos learn a lot🙏I want to know more❤️
Feel free to reach out with any questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you for this! Just picked up a roll of the fencing you linked. We used posts and twine last year. It worked fine, but it’s so dry rotted now it’s not holding our tomatoes. Looking forward to trying something more long term!
I did the same thing last year too, lol. The fencing has been so much better. I hope you enjoy 😊
My trellises are from items that I have scavenged from curbs. Next year I will buy more tposts for better support.
T-posts are the best!
Thank you so much for this video. Great timing as I was just about to buy a trellis. I like the A frame for my 8 x 4 raised bed in fact the one you recommended 😊 maybe a silly question but on each side of my bed I have a variety of beans, cucumbers & Seminole pumpkin. Then eggplant, tomatoes, peppers and leafy veggies (I’m rushing to harvest) inside of raised bed. I’m in 10a FL. Would I be able to access them having the A seem to take up some space?
Yes. I have the same situation going on too. I just reach my hand through the netting. If you have big hands, it might be a little harder.
Question about the A frame- do you plant on the inside of the frame or outside? And do you plant at the base of both sides? I did cattle panel arches between my Vego garden beds. I might try an a frame in my small side yard bed. Also, I assume nothing grows on the inside in the shade of the trellising plants? Sorry so many questions 😂
I plant on both the outside and inside. Both work. I plant all along the base of both sides. If you have very heavy vining plants on both sides, the middle will be shaded but normally I grow something heavy vines on one side and something lighter on the other (like tomatoes) then I can grow beans in the center. For my peas, I planted them from one side to the other, including the middle and they climbed each other until they were tall enough to reach the netting and they did great.
@@HomegrownFloridaZ9a Thanks Petrina! You're always so helpful ;)
@@jolenef.9548 you can always grow something like lettuce that would love the shade in the center too! radishes onions etc..use up the space in the middle while everything else is vining up
