Good ideas. I'm an avid recycler and have used old pet gates, old fridge shelving, and old boat ladder, an old swimming pool ladder, old chain link fencing. I used old window frames that my neighbor discarded and put chicken wire over them. It's fun to think up ways to use discarded and unused items. And I like saving money.

I like the ladder idea though being in the UK the wet climate is a problem so I always burn off the end grain with an angle grinder as it will prevent the wood sucking up the moisture.

For staking and trellising I am going to grow bamboo so I can have a neverending supply of natural materials to use. Another durable material to use is waxed lacing cord, I have used it outdoors and it lasts for years,
Hi Gary, thanks for all the helpful ideas! I noticed on one of your wood framed fences you have black wire fencing that looks to be about 1x2" mesh. Can you tell me where I might find that? All I can find at the local big box stores are 2x4" mesh and I need to keep out the little ground squirrels that have been ransacking my garden. Thanks!
I designed the fence and had someone build it. They brought the wire. But it has been perfect for keeping everything out. You don't have to have a truck to bring home a cattle panel. My husband and I tied it to the top of our small SUV. Migardener has a great video on how he did it with his car.

I wish my grape vines would get out of control! One will be 3 years this spring, the other one will be 2 in the spring. They are only knee high so far. I do have some rolled chicken wire around them to keep the deer from eating them.

I like the ladder idea though being in the UK the wet climate is a problem so I always burn off the end grain with an angle grinder as it will prevent the wood sucking up the moisture.
Thats a great idea. People have been mentioning that. I will be doing it.

For staking and trellising I am going to grow bamboo so I can have a neverending supply of natural materials to use. Another durable material to use is waxed lacing cord, I have used it outdoors and it lasts for years,

Hi Gary, thanks for all the helpful ideas! I noticed on one of your wood framed fences you have black wire fencing that looks to be about 1x2" mesh. Can you tell me where I might find that? All I can find at the local big box stores are 2x4" mesh and I need to keep out the little ground squirrels that have been ransacking my garden. Thanks!
I designed the fence and had someone build it. They brought the wire. But it has been perfect for keeping everything out.

What can I use on my grape vine? last season I get leaf rust viruses so I never get any produce from it.
Same here
If it's a virus not much. If it's a fungus. Spraying early and regularly makes a difference. Read up what is best for rusts on grapes. Use it before it typically shows up.

You don't have to have a truck to bring home a cattle panel. My husband and I tied it to the top of our small SUV. Migardener has a great video on how he did it with his car.

The number of odd looks I got asking for ladder mesh at all the stores I went to. 😭😭 I'm thinking it might not be a thing in Colorado.
It is really hit or miss. It is masonry product maybe try stores like that.

I wish my grape vines would get out of control! One will be 3 years this spring, the other one will be 2 in the spring. They are only knee high so far. I do have some rolled chicken wire around them to keep the deer from eating them.
They will get there.
