Well they finally did it. Back in 3rd Edition they started getting codex's for the Daemon Hunters and Witch Hunters but never got around to doing the Xenos Hunters book. Now they finally got all the Inquisition forces in one release. I just hope I can use my Primaris Deathwatch that I started working on when 10th started.
Yes you can use them but they will need like two codexes plus maybe some screenshots to play as deathwatch properly. Unless you just play ultramarines and rp that they're dw
Does the Deathwatch upgrade sprue fit on primaris marines? Looking at the sprue it looks like they were made back during firstborne, and I don't know if the bits are compatible with primaris or not.
@Basically_Anybody the Shoulder pads fit fine. I have a unit of Assault Intercessors I'm working on right now and they work perfectly on all kits. The only thing that may look off a bit are the heads.

Navigators have been in the game since Rogue Trader. They navigate the Imperial ships between the stars using the signal of the Astronomican. They are pretty important to the Imperium itself, but on the battlefield they are basically just some guy with a laspistol.
Of course it will change everything. That is the reason GW has done it since Rogue Trader days. Spend money on squads, paint squads, then new codex appears, your race disappears, overnight, rebuild repaint. Repeat ad infinitum
I kinda want them to do this for Chaos, things like cultists, traitor guard, beastmen, dark mechanicum etc. would narratively fit into any chaos army; would also help knight players having some infantry options outside of daemons.
Honestly, I'm pretty excited for the imperial agents! It's been my dream to run an inquisitorial retinue since i started this hobby, and now that there's a full book of rules, i can make that army a reality.
Ordo Hereticus is the only one that really interests me. But that’s because I’m a sisters player, a killteam player, and want a condemnor bolter unit. So boom 2 killteams, a condemnor boltor hero, another battleline and a new attack transport. Not that I’m actually gonna have the money to pick it up but still.
Just imagine if GW put some effort into their releases. This could have been an reasonably big release, with new Grey Knights, new Deathwatch and more dedicated Inquisitorial based units. Even if that just came in upgrade sprues for Kasrkin/Shock Troops/tanks etc. Instead we get a terrible model and a slapdash feeling codex.
I'm gonna miss my Deathwatch being an army, but they've been barely worth taking as a whole army for most of their existence after 7th. Didn't stop me painting 4k points of em though. To be honest, I'm more likely to take them now that I can slot them into otherwise competitive armies than I was before. They'd been doing well this edition though, so it's sad to see them go. I hope they undo deleting the Blackspear taskforce. There was a brief period in 8th where I'd take a DW termie librarian + termie squad alongside my guard, looking forward to doing that again.
I’m sorry but as a narrative player this is the bomb. All we need now is new battlefleet gothic and the universe is complete. Don’t you think it’s funny that almost all 40K video games start in space for opening cinematic. We all want to play that.
For the Keyword issue more likely than not they might adjust the "Assigned Agents" rule so that units with this keyword can ride in any Imperium transports. That's what they used to have going for them, or at least that's what their Inquisitors have now anyway.
Thanks for the heads up. I've been having fun putting original marines arms, weapons and backpacks on the Primaris bodies so I picked up the last box of Deathwatch Veterans from my fav store.
I think the new inquisitor model has a reversed problem from the previous model. He used to have very short legs, and now it has legs so long that he looks like he has no torso. I think Kirioth nailed it. The loincloth of the old model should have been brought into this new sculpt
Actually if you attach the inquisitorial agents to eisenhorn. If you max out the unit then it’s like a 28 wounds with -1 to wound them with a 5+ invuln and they have plus 1 to wound during shooting, they all do a chain sword attack, and then the attacks of the deamon host are doubled by eisenhorn. So for the guard that’s like a huge wound blob that someone has to struggle through
It actually is not that "weird" to have Sisters or Grey Knights in an Imperial army. Back in 2nd/3rd edition you use to be able to ally them. Plus, you used to be able to upgrade Space Marine characters to be Deathwatch and they would come with specialized ammo.
Sticky objective is fun but sisters aren’t our only way to sticky. We have the banner we can slap on our big knights. The sisters are defintiely good tho, because it can allow two sticky points without sacrificing a big knight running around the map all the time
I just remembered that in the 5th edition (not sure), an inquisitor unit could take a servitor henchman. They could have weapons like heavy bolters, flamers, or multi-meltas. Games Workshop forgot to put a limit on how many of them you could actually take. The multi-melta one, the most expensive and most powerful of all, was an additional 10 points. I've seen a battle where one inquisitor had around 30 servitors with multi-meltas for 375 points, just burning E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-G to the ground.
The real question is how much DW is Ordo Xenos going to be? Because I have a hard time picturing any of the detachments as even a remotely working army beyond small points games. I think we are missing out on some rules that allow for more specific drafting from Grey Knights, Sisters or Astartes for each of the specific Ordo detachments, otherwise how do you get anything playable? The fourth "Imperial Navy" detachment maybe drafting a bit from Guard?
I mean I play knights so I was pretty excited to hear my favorite -meatshield- support units where getting extra content. Also the sticky objective unit is an absolute godsend

Back in the day I played the OG pure demon hunters and won a RT and GT with it. It was awesome seeing Strom troopers in rhinos backed up by land raiders full of grey knights.
It seems like this might let me bring back my old force that was more of a Space Marines army with the old Heroes of the Imperium to add something interesting to it...mainly because I was playing 500 point games then with the odd force organization charts that had me swapping some units around by what mission it was...so it was an HQ of an Inquisitor with a Vindicare assassin combined with a unit of tactical marines and either a second one or devastators to go with it. We dragged out 3rd edition for a LONG time due to everything being in one rulebook there...with some exceptions when people wanted armies not in it and could use a couple other things...I'd, originally, wanted to use my marines as Deathwatch (I did use the old conversion kits on them). Entire thing I used for my forces backstory is that there was a small combined force of marines backing up an Inquisitors retinue and a Death Watch contingent, they managed as win with heavy losses followed by the system getting cut off by a warp storm for who knows how long. Casualties plus other things meant that they'd kind of created a chapter of their own from the remnants of the forces there by the time the storm dissipated and a descendent of the Inquisitor carrying his rousette reported in.
Based on a line from the end of the article, it seems that Imperial Agents won’t be allying in other units like GSC and other armies do, but rather will have their own unique datasheet variants of other units, as they refer to the Battle Sisters as specifically being Ordo Hereticus Battle Sisters, and that Grey Knights and Battle Sisters have a new keyword unique to this codex allowing you to ally them into other armies. I think the IA chimera may have a different transport restrictions than guard IA cause of this.
I literally only have one 40k army, Deathwatch... So I'm curious to see what the rules actually say. But at the end of the day I'm only playing with friends so I can keep using the index.
Any idea if the imperial agents codex is gonna have data slates for their requisitioned units? Or is this you gotta buy imperial agents + requisitioned units codex? I'm a grey knights player who has an inquisitor but I'm only buying one codex each edition (enough to play with friends) and so if it doesn't have the data slates looks like I'll be shelving my inquisitor until 11th :/
Battle sisters cost 115. In the article we can also see that we can bring an immolator as well. Which means you could pay 230 to have 2 squads of 5 battle sisters and an immolator and put that in any imperium army. You can technically bring two immolators, but you can still just take 1 squad of sisters (in 2000 points or less), so it would be a lot weaker as you don't get the better battle sister weapons in both immolators, just one
I'm most excited for the Imperial Navy detachment. But the Ordo's are more than intriguing. Kinda feels like you might build a core of Inquisitor, a few Retinue units, an Assassin, and then plug and play the different battle units to swing it for the Ordo you want. Which is kinda exciting.
I kind of the like the box with the exaction squad and the sisters. I like the idea of adding those tank bits to a land raider and those battle sisters being a cheap back line unit sounds fun. Not sure if it’s worth the whole box though.
As a Sister's player I'm planning to pick up the Hereticus box, I can always use another squad and an Immolator. I'm also thinking about picking up the Xenos box, not sure how I will fit it in an army, but I like the models and having multiple Killteams.
I played 1-2k full imperial agents fairly regularly at the local. FAQ a few months back confirmed that a mono-agent army was fine and they could just skip the 'pick a detachment step', making it feasible. Ran all the infantry inquisitors and assassins with 3 units of voidsmen, 3 units of breachers, 3 units of inquisitorial agents... Vehicles were the bane of my existence, though. :D
The one thing that bugged me about the Imperial Agent release is that they made one new model for it. IMO it would have been nice if they made a command squad/ retinue for the Inquisitors to tie together all the different units in the Army.

I mean it will most likely be the same like when you used them before where they can ride in any imperial transports. they had a special key word that allowed them to, but I am not big on the inquisitors, my main goal is to make a rouge trader army from this book. hope they allow people to take some units of imperial guard and such other than a chimera. Like tempestus scions or Kasirkin since those guys would be seen guarding such important people.
Genuinely excited for this codex. I love playing with inquisitor models. Already have an SoB squad and gk termis. I'm so ready for this codex drop and kitbashed my own coteaz :>
Those Grey Knight Terminators strike me as *very* tempting for an Admech force. Just a distraction that I can toss out at my opponent, forcing them to deal with it while the rest of my force can coordinate as it likes. I was already planning on running the Rogue Trader kill team, and maybe even the Voidsmen At Arms.
The battle forces are a great way to get several kill teams at once and some cool one-off minis for your collection, there's also a bonus in the form of a lame vehicle that you can trade with someone for another kill team. Kill Team is a straight up better game than the Main one.
I just want to say as a counter point I already designed my sister's army as an Ordo Hereticus force with a full unit of Henchemen, Grayfax and a kitbashed Ephrael Stern as the daemonhost. The basically released a codex just for me, so I'm extremely excited and happy.
I got the feeling the Grey Knights / Sisters units are not available to all armies as allies, but are rather for filling pure Agents of the Imperium armies with roles they can’t fill by themselves.
All I care about with this codex is A) like you said, the Dawn of War of it all, and B) finally being able to have an actual army for my Inquisitor and her combined arms Task Force
Mein Bruder in Christus, you were living under Patrick Star's basement. Everyone under the sun knew Emperor's Children has been vocally set for later in 10th, and the codex leak was out before we even knew what the Sororitas and Cult battleforces were gonna be themed around
All imperium factions now have access to units from most imperium factions, but my gsc can only bring brood brothers in a single detachment. Yay. That said, as a xenos only collector, this codex does make collecting an imeprium army tempting. Mostly because you can soup nearly wathever unit you find cool
A dude on reddit photoshopped a tabard/loincloth onto Coteaz, looks SO MUCH BETTER. Covers the bare legs and nappy so well. I absolutely cannot understand the redesign when the cover art of the codex looks totally different!
honestly as someone who liked the 7th ed imperial agents codex abit at the time before it got nuked 6ish months later by the release of 8th edition i am excited for the book. maybe it's also because i am one box and some shoulder pads away from being able to field 30 arbites. but as a content creator i wish it dropped in september as i am already doing artillery in august

The army rule literally doesn’t do anything for them and actually only allows you to not play the army it’s for. OK, well that means the detachment rules are going to be a little deeper than usual and will allow you to make something cool. Oh? It’s just +1 to hit against one unit, or a 5+ invuln on one objective? Wow that’s so boring who wrote this?
it is kinda funny to think about a whole army being an imperium of man soup army like using allies from agents of the imperium to get deathwatch, grey knight, and battles sisters as well as wardogs and then also whatever your base army is. but changing topic it kinda sucks that tyranids don't get grenades or tank shock
Jay talking about Karamazov having a 10 strength melta and loving it. Meanwhile, my whole SoB army is equipped with 10S meltas thanks to the Bringers of Flame detachment.
Obviously I am biassed since I am a Deathwatch player, but this move seems very bland to me in regards to the diversity of Space Marine divergent chapters. All of the other divergent chapters are melee focused subfactions, yet we were the only one who was a more shooting focused army. And call me crazy, but I feel like having that as an option would have given GW more design space to get experimental with formulating rules to really push a specialist marine force further down that strategy outside of the generic marine faction.
I like the Xenos battle force just because I don't have any of those models. The malleus one seems like just a way for GW to get rid of old GK Termi stock.
Personally, I'm super jazzed about the new codex. I started in 9th, and I have always been sad about how few Inquisition units I can take, especially since they added so many new "Retinue" units in 10th. I'm currently 3 months into an 8-month Crusade, and I have taken a hard U-turn in my list building from Imperial Knight with a few Agents units, to all agents, and one Knight 😅

The Grey Knight teleportation is their army rule, and you don't get the army rule of units you soup

I run an Inquisitor, Inquisitorial henchmen, Vindicar assassin and Armiger Moriax to supplement my Space Marine Chapter and it loads of fun!

I am definitely stoked for this new Codex! It really opens up some great options for my Sororitas forces.

Black Templars serve in the Deathwatch. Would be a good addition to Jay's army.
I'm most excited for the Imperial Navy detachment. But the Ordo's are more than intriguing. Kinda feels like you might build a core of Inquisitor, a few Retinue units, an Assassin, and then plug and play the different battle units to swing it for the Ordo you want. Which is kinda exciting.
I kind of the like the box with the exaction squad and the sisters. I like the idea of adding those tank bits to a land raider and those battle sisters being a cheap back line unit sounds fun. Not sure if it’s worth the whole box though.
As a Sister's player I'm planning to pick up the Hereticus box, I can always use another squad and an Immolator. I'm also thinking about picking up the Xenos box, not sure how I will fit it in an army, but I like the models and having multiple Killteams.

I played 1-2k full imperial agents fairly regularly at the local. FAQ a few months back confirmed that a mono-agent army was fine and they could just skip the 'pick a detachment step', making it feasible.
Ran all the infantry inquisitors and assassins with 3 units of voidsmen, 3 units of breachers, 3 units of inquisitorial agents... Vehicles were the bane of my existence, though. :D
Theres 3 battleforces because they are to help clear inventory. Long term most things in them could easaly be on borrowed time

The one thing that bugged me about the Imperial Agent release is that they made one new model for it. IMO it would have been nice if they made a command squad/ retinue for the Inquisitors to tie together all the different units in the Army.
They have, inquisitorial agents. They’re included in all three of the battle boxes.

I mean it will most likely be the same like when you used them before where they can ride in any imperial transports. they had a special key word that allowed them to, but I am not big on the inquisitors, my main goal is to make a rouge trader army from this book. hope they allow people to take some units of imperial guard and such other than a chimera. Like tempestus scions or Kasirkin since those guys would be seen guarding such important people.
Genuinely excited for this codex. I love playing with inquisitor models. Already have an SoB squad and gk termis. I'm so ready for this codex drop and kitbashed my own coteaz :>

Those Grey Knight Terminators strike me as *very* tempting for an Admech force. Just a distraction that I can toss out at my opponent, forcing them to deal with it while the rest of my force can coordinate as it likes.
I was already planning on running the Rogue Trader kill team, and maybe even the Voidsmen At Arms.
The battle forces are a great way to get several kill teams at once and some cool one-off minis for your collection, there's also a bonus in the form of a lame vehicle that you can trade with someone for another kill team.
Kill Team is a straight up better game than the Main one.
That how got me man XD. As for the codex, now I want a imperial army with assassins, dont have an imperial army yet but still.
I love arbites, I have 1900pts of sisters and now I can build a 1000pts of all the random hummie stuff!
I just want to say as a counter point I already designed my sister's army as an Ordo Hereticus force with a full unit of Henchemen, Grayfax and a kitbashed Ephrael Stern as the daemonhost. The basically released a codex just for me, so I'm extremely excited and happy.
The new Cotaez model looks like if someone tried to kitbash one out of Stormcast bits.
Lord-Commander Bastian Carthalos would be a great base for a counts as Cotez
Two henchmen teams would be kind of nice to build all variants, but I think man people interested would already have a box of them.
I got the feeling the Grey Knights / Sisters units are not available to all armies as allies, but are rather for filling pure Agents of the Imperium armies with roles they can’t fill by themselves.
All I care about with this codex is A) like you said, the Dawn of War of it all, and B) finally being able to have an actual army for my Inquisitor and her combined arms Task Force

Appearently GW already removed the Inquisitor models from their webstore, so now they are "exclusive" in the Battleforces.
All imperium factions now have access to units from most imperium factions, but my gsc can only bring brood brothers in a single detachment. Yay.
That said, as a xenos only collector, this codex does make collecting an imeprium army tempting. Mostly because you can soup nearly wathever unit you find cool

Kyria Draxus is great with Custodes Guard because they can once per game shoot twice…she slaps in that unit…
honestly as someone who liked the 7th ed imperial agents codex abit at the time before it got nuked 6ish months later by the release of 8th edition i am excited for the book. maybe it's also because i am one box and some shoulder pads away from being able to field 30 arbites. but as a content creator i wish it dropped in september as i am already doing artillery in august

I’m glad GW took the time to come up with such a unique and interesting army rule for such a diverse selection of models with so much flavor. Oh wait…. The army rule literally doesn’t do anything for them and actually only allows you to not play the army it’s for. OK, well that means the detachment rules are going to be a little deeper than usual and will allow you to make something cool. Oh? It’s just +1 to hit against one unit, or a 5+ invuln on one objective? Wow that’s so boring who wrote this?

it is kinda funny to think about a whole army being an imperium of man soup army like using allies from agents of the imperium to get deathwatch, grey knight, and battles sisters as well as wardogs and then also whatever your base army is. but changing topic it kinda sucks that tyranids don't get grenades or tank shock

Obviously I am biassed since I am a Deathwatch player, but this move seems very bland to me in regards to the diversity of Space Marine divergent chapters. All of the other divergent chapters are melee focused subfactions, yet we were the only one who was a more shooting focused army. And call me crazy, but I feel like having that as an option would have given GW more design space to get experimental with formulating rules to really push a specialist marine force further down that strategy outside of the generic marine faction.
Got Inquisitors iny Admech army. I like it. And Assassins too hehe
I like the Xenos battle force just because I don't have any of those models. The malleus one seems like just a way for GW to get rid of old GK Termi stock.
Personally, I'm super jazzed about the new codex. I started in 9th, and I have always been sad about how few Inquisition units I can take, especially since they added so many new "Retinue" units in 10th.
I'm currently 3 months into an 8-month Crusade, and I have taken a hard U-turn in my list building from Imperial Knight with a few Agents units, to all agents, and one Knight 😅
