I am a Japanese living in Fukuoka. Although Fukuoka is a smaller city compared to Tokyo and Osaka, in recent years it has developed rapidly as a compact city with an excellent living environment. In fact, Fukuoka is the number one population growth rate that is quite popular in Fukuoka. The development of many entertainment facilities is planned, and Fukuoka will become a more enjoyable city in the future.
Fukuoka seem already great on paper to me. Also if you live here , i definitively have to ask for an advice to you , if you can answer. I will be in Fukuoka in february for 6 days, and 3 more in Nagasaki (mostly for the lantern festival). I'm french and as the cliché say , i love cheese. I've learn that 焼きカレー exist and i need to try it. Is it worth to go to Mojiko to eat it or it's overrated and i could find a nice place to eat it in Fukuoka ? Thanks for the answer!

I live in Fukuoka these days. Wonderful city. Compact, and has just about everything without the big crowds. I used to make videos like this, but I got tired of being the guy with the camera and I just wanted to enjoy everything without recording every second (laziness). I'm glad you're making videos like this, someone's got to do it!
I just want to say as someone brand new to your channel, not really new, but fairly new we appreciate your content very much and we are so very like you! We are looking forward to traveling like you guys more
This channel is now my favorite and my husband and I have watched so many of your videos. Both of you have such good energy and always show that as long as you are willing to have a good time, you will, no matter what’s in your wallet. Thanks Lisa and Josh!
I used to live in Kyushu. I will be going back this November. I am looking forward to being home for a few weeks. I love it you went there. I hate it people are going to start going. It's a hidden gem. The entire island is a gem. What tourist don't know is that most of the food you enjoy now in Japan is from Kyushu due to the Dutch and Portuguese influences as well as the US Navy being in Sasebo (Where I used to live). It's home to me and I want to retire there. I wonder if I can open a Yatai as an American and just live out my final 30 years as a local? If you are on a budget then Ichiran is not cheap when you look at other places that are over 100 years old and the owners of the flavors in ramen. Your Ichiran is about $11 a bowl and a few of the local spots with much better ramen are $5 to $7 tops and way better. Ichiran is nice but the McDonalds of ramen now. I get that face every time I mention it to my Japanese friends.
I’m new to your channel, but I wanted to say that I love that you made a video about Fukuoka! And that you mentioned it being pretty underrated but (perhaps) up and coming. I’ve lived there so it has a special place in my heart, but whenever I give the advice to those planning a trip to Japan, there are many others saying it’s not worth visiting (especially in a Facebook group for travel trips to Japan). Which makes me sad as Fukuoka has so many cool aspects, relaxed vibes and even has beaches! Instead others recommend standard and crowded places like Miyajima, Kyoto, Osaka etc. I think Fukuoka has this great vibe and it deserves more attention 🥰 On the other hand, it wouldn’t be so bad if Fukuoka stayed a secret gem without the hordes of tourists for it to be enjoyed in peace with the locals haha 😊 Anyway, I love your insights and willingness to give cool places like Fukuoka a try!
You two are the favorite travel vloggers for both me and my future wife. Going to Japan for our honeymoon has been our biggest dream, and your videos in the different cities have been the most fun part of helping us build our itineraries. Seeing you two love Fukuoka has helped us decide to travel off the beaten path of the big 3 cities and explore a different part of Japan. Much love and always love your down to earth style of traveling.
I absolutely love the budget concept of this series. I am also thinking that a lot of travel vlogs are high end with very sensationalised content, but budget travel is fun and satisfying and a challenge in its own right - especially in Japan! I also think convenience stores in Japan are part of the fun, and even as a veggie I know I can get some cheap eats there and have a great time exploring the shelves. The McGriddle you made - you guys are literally winning! 😂
Thank you for making this video. It was a good reminder of what Fukuoka was like and that I should take my husband and son there when we go back to Japan. Your friend described it so well and really its more laid back.
Sshhhhmazing. Lol I love the description your friend described Fukuoka. It seems less intimidating for someone like me who wants to explore but have yet to go anywhere beyond US, Canada and Portugal. Lol
I'm leaving for Japan in a couple of days. Your videos have been so helpful. I was planning on traveling thru Fukuoka to S Korea by ferry. With this video I'll be spending a few days here. I really want to see a baseball game. Keep the videos coming.
Glad to have found your channel as I’m making plans to travel to Fukuoka next month. ❤ your content in regard to budget travel. Great job 👏🏼 ‼️ New follower from California‼️
God this makes me want to rush back to Japan - and Fukuoka, never been! I completely agree that this more "realistic" kind of travel content is really needed and matches so well with how many people travel. What's better than a convenience store breakfast in Japan?? Loved it!
Just got back from Japan and loved every minute, i used your videos for inspiration went to Asakusa/Nikko/Koyoto/Hiroshima/Miajima island (yes had the 1000 year tea thanks to you) thanks for the great content and emails you send me really appreciate it Lisa and Josh. ❤
I was there a couple weeks ago and the Softhawks game we bought tickets for was cancelled because of the monsoon even though its in a dome. Really cool town. If you go back, you have to check out the Nanzoin reclining Buddah and surrounding waterfalls and temples bout 40 minute train outside of town. Very impressive.
Welcome back to Fukuoka. Great to see a video on one of our two home towns. I saw you also did a 3 day video on our other home town, Sydney. Regarding Ramen in Fukuoka, of course it is the home of Tonkotsu styles of Ramen. Most notably Hakata style. But close to Tenjin, there is a lighter broth version called Nagahama, and further south there is Kurume style. Oh yes, going to Ichiran or Ippudo..... um, okay I'll let you off. Best Ramen is always from the dodgiest looking stalls. Or brave the yattai's. Softbank Hawks are always great to watch. In the last 10 years, the team has won more championships than any other. And for quite some time now, Japan has been ranked 1st in world baseball ahead of the US. Baseball has been popular in Japan since the late 1800's - so it's not a new sport to them. They even have pink days, where the stadiums are full of women and they all get free merch to encourage more women to come out. It makes the fan base wide and encourages families to all come out together. Watching baseball in Japan is always high energy!! When it comes to pricing in venues such as a sporting event, in the west we would suffer captive prices. A case of "well you cannot go anywhere else, so we'll charge much higher prices". In Japan this practice is illegal. A price, is a price. It's also why convenience store prices are not high compared to anywhere else. They cannot simply add a large surcharge for the case of convenience, like they would elsewhere. In Australia for example, a bottle of drink in Woolworths would cost significantly less than the same thing in 7 Eleven. Absolutely, not possible to rip off customers this way in Japan. By the way.... next time in Fukuoka, be sure to go down to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It's a must in Fukuoka. Dazaifu is the old capital of Kyushu and its history goes back well over 1000 years.
wow I had so much fun watching y'all have fun ! I'm going to Japan next year in April and decided to start out the trip with going to Fukuoka first ! the main reason is I didn't want to just jump into Tokyo because I'm not used to crowds and I don't want to stress out when im supposed to have fun. to me from what I've seen Fukuoka seams chill and peaceful , you can enjoy the city and also the beauty of nature and historical shrines and buildings . I love how realistic your budget is especially when it comes to food. the shots you took of the canal were beautiful ! the outdoor food vendor party was so cool I hope I can find it when go 😅 also you changed my mind on team lab after seeing you guys have so much fun ✨♥
I love Fukuoka! I'm glad you guys had a good time. As far as Fukuoka based affordable chains go, I recommend Ringer Hut for your next trip. Their sara udon (crispy crunchy fried noodles that almost remind me of Hawaiian/Chinese style cake noodles) is my absolute favorite and it's so cheap. But your friend is right there are much better Hakata style ramen shops in Fukuoka but there's no shame in loving Ichiran. Glad you guys got some motsunabe, too!
Awesome 👏 I enjoyed your video!! I have been to Osaka and Kyoto and I think your friend is right about the speed of people walking there is slower than the Osaka and Kyoto which mean is more relaxing to me!! 😊

Oh, great...now I've got to figure out how to fit Fukuoka into my upcoming trip to Japan. ;-) I don't know what it is about watching Lisa eat, but the grace in which she takes that first bite makes my mouth water every time! This series is perfect for me, because i usually spend about 3 days in a city when traveling through a country.. I have all but given up watching the "private train across India" channel, because, well, why?
TeamLab! I went to the one in Osaka -- twice -- and loved it so much I left wondering why *every* major city in the world doesn't have its own TeamLab experience. It's just such a magical space. Can't stress this enough -- if you are in Japan and are in a city that has a TeamLabs, go and buy a ticket and enjoy. You won't regret it.
This video is actually quite reassuring as we are planning a trip to Japan next year, including Fukuoka, and we was worried our budget might be too slim but we'll have a bit more than you've budgeted yourselves here and you seemed to have a great time.
We really enjoy traveling with you guys how ever you want to do it on what ever budget. You guys find some great experience and not so great😁😁 but your honest about it and that's why we watch. You guys keep doing your thing it's beautiful 👍👍 ya know you put 100 UA-camrs on a luxury train and you'll get 5 different videos, you put 100 UA-camrs in Fukuoka with a limited budget and you'll get a 100 different videos. We definitely would like to catch a baseball game in Japan, don't know about the ramen place. How great to reunite with friends!
Your assessment of American baseball games is 100% right lol looking forward to a game in Japan this fall! What does their season typically look like???
ّI love your 3 day 100 dollars per day series!!! just love it! one my biggest concerns when travelling is the finance ... that its too expensive .... but Im learning sooo much from you guys .... I used to travel only business class and stay in luxury hotels but after covid and with inflation hitting everywhere it has become harder to spend extra money in luxury so I kind of held back on travelling ... but I kid you not after watching your way of travelling and some other travel budget friendly travellers ... I went out of my box and booked 5 trips for the next 6 months ... booking early , budget friendly airlines ... booked budget friendly hotels using my miles for my next trip to Vienna next month and just came back from Istanbul and spend only 200 dollars on food and entertainment for 5 days ( not including accommodation) with focusing on street food that is good and not the ambiance and luxury ... and had more fun than ever... I ate breakfast in bakeries and lunch packed picnic stuff from groceries and dinner eating tasty street food in budget friendly eateries ... best trip ever! Thank you for inspiring us !
LOVE your videos...but so confused over Japanese restaurants. I think we need a tutorial because it all looks delicious but I'd have zero idea how to order any of it!!
Hey man, how does the travelling work in Fukuoka I saw there are so many different trains does JR Kyushu pass cover metro ? or are they different? ill be travelling there real SOON, so just looking for advice Whats that suica card you got? and whats the phone app?
Hi there There are many railway companies in Japan, but unfortunately the JR Pass does not apply to the subway. One-day tickets are issued for 640 yen on the Fukuoka subway. You can also use a credit card as a ticket, and even in that case, the maximum amount for the day will be set at 640 yen. It is most rational and convenient for foreigners to use a credit card as a ticket when boarding the Fukuoka subway.
Can I give you an advice as a Foreign Resident of Fukuoka? It seems that you took the subway at least 3 times within a day…in that case, it’s cheaper to get the subway day pass for 640JpY sold at all the machines in the station. And next time you really want budget eats and drink in Fukuoka, let me know. For example: I know where you can drink unlimited alcohol drinks for 3 hours for about 12USD.
I appreciate this tutorial cause in acouple years if I can afford it I would love to visit Fukuoka, was wondering if anyone knows of the best saunas and beaches there to visit? ❤
Been following your travels for some time now and wanted to thank you for sharing all the unique, fun and budget friendly places for us to try. I'm amazed how you two always manage to find these cute and hidden gems without any guidance from Google etc. Looking forward to your next adventure!
Does the suica card on the Iphone wallet work just fine? And is it ok to communicate in english and google tradutor? I'll be going to fukuoka in a few weeks, and I want to enjoy it the best way possible!
Kara and Nate will not be happy to hear your comments 🤣 But on the plus side, I totally agree with you, your experience is the real experience that how most people travel and they generally have a specific budget to get on with their expenses 👍
I love your how you self-deprecating when you talk about going to Ichiran. Also everything you are doing , in each video i looked , seem doable unlike these fancy thing you can see on youtube/instagram, especialy for people like me who don't have a lot of money and have to make everything count . Thanks for that , it give me some idea of what to do when i will be here in february (i will be 6 days in fukuoka with some travel around for the day and 3 in nagasaki for the lantern festival )
I must say since I’ve started watching y’all channel I have felt soooo much peace and joy by watching y’all travel journey too many different countries I always think about visiting and I am someday for sure, also think this is the proper way of traveling no matter what any one says honestly y’all are giving the complete right impression keep up the great work I love this channel 🔥🔥
Soooo overr those flying 1st class around the world youtube vlogs.. You guys are far more A) Interesting and B) realistic .. Love your Japan vlogs. Am a little bias as i live here but hey ;-)
Going to Japan in November. Disappointed that the baseball season ends in October. I wish American airports and events didn’t take advantage of a captive audience and overcharge
I feel like the budget of $100 per day for TWO people is too low. I'd say bump it up to $150 per day for two people. That's fairly reasonable when you account for accommodations as well in the daily budget.
Someone stole my past! In 1960 Itazuke AFB (now Fukuoka International Airport) was my first assignment out of tech school. My pay was less than $100 per month, but the exchange was 360Y for a dollar. One of the best beers ever brewed, Asahi was $1 for nearly a gallon. Whisky, Torys was $1 a bottle. I rode a Cabton motorcycle. Gas was 10 cents a gallon. Before the "merchants" of the world ruined everything a dollar was worth a dollar??
Everyone makes ramen in their own way, I don't believe there is a "true" style.. yes, there are regional similarities, but you make ramen your own, I'd say. You like what you like, and you don't eat what you don't.

LOVE your videos...but so confused over Japanese restaurants. I think we need a tutorial because it all looks delicious but I'd have zero idea how to order any of it!!
That's the Ichiran head office you visited!
Hey man,
how does the travelling work in Fukuoka
I saw there are so many different trains
does JR Kyushu pass cover metro ? or are they different?
ill be travelling there real SOON, so just looking for advice
Whats that suica card you got? and whats the phone app?
Hi! Where is that place with beers in the basement that you went to? 13:53 mins in :) would like to find it thanks!
As usual, thank you for the great video! Josh, how do you do so much walking in those flip flops? Get some nicer shoes!
No address for the ramen place in the beginning of the video?
I wish you showed us the meal from the yatai stall, maybe next time ?

Know that a survey was done before but how about a trip to Okinawa?
I love your how you self-deprecating when you talk about going to Ichiran.
Also everything you are doing , in each video i looked , seem doable unlike these fancy thing you can see on youtube/instagram, especialy for people like me who don't have a lot of money and have to make everything count .
Thanks for that , it give me some idea of what to do when i will be here in february (i will be 6 days in fukuoka with some travel around for the day and 3 in nagasaki for the lantern festival )

Background music makes it hard to understand what you're saying
Someone stole my past! In 1960 Itazuke AFB (now Fukuoka International Airport) was my first assignment out of tech school. My pay was less than $100 per month, but the exchange was 360Y for a dollar. One of the best beers ever brewed, Asahi was $1 for nearly a gallon. Whisky, Torys was $1 a bottle. I rode a Cabton motorcycle. Gas was 10 cents a gallon. Before the "merchants" of the world ruined everything a dollar was worth a dollar??
Hey how old are you Josh?
Excellent~😻ニャ~
Everyone makes ramen in their own way, I don't believe there is a "true" style.. yes, there are regional similarities, but you make ramen your own, I'd say. You like what you like, and you don't eat what you don't.
Ma come diavolo vi viene in mente di andare in giro in infradito, mica state in spiaggia! boh io veramente sono esterrefatto
26:42 - Eminem reference?
hahaha yep!
