I have a similar problem. I was born in the US and grew up here but when the Navy sent me to Sasebo I felt like I was home. I had found a place that just made me feel happy and alive. Sadly the Navy would not let me stay in Sasebo and now I am back in the US and in my 50s but would love nothing more than to move to Kyushu and be happy once again....love your video! Thank you! Going back in November and can't wait.
Dear Remi, I recently stumbled upon your travel vlog about Fukuoka, Japan, and was immediately drawn to it. As someone who is planning a trip to Fukuoka, I found your video incredibly helpful and informative. What struck me the most was the emotional connection you had with the city, given that you were born there and raised in Los Angeles. I could tell how much wonder and curiosity you felt while exploring your birthplace, and I can only imagine how different your life might have been if you had grown up there. As someone who has also been away from my home country (Sweden) for many years, I can relate to the strong emotional feelings you experienced while visiting Fukuoka. There's something about returning to a place that holds so many memories and connections that can be overwhelming, but also incredibly fulfilling. Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights about Fukuoka. Your vlog has given me even more reasons to look forward to my trip, and I can't wait to explore all the wonderful things that this city has to offer. Best regards, Robert
Wow that makes me very happy to hear. I'm glad you found my video helpful. Thank you for taking the time to leave a note and let me know! I hope you have a wonderful trip.
If you haven't been to Fukuoka yet, I can also recommend Ohorikoen (park in Fukuoka) and to visit one of the islands or peninsulas in the bay, like Uminonakamichi and Nokonoshima. Also, there are so many things to see in all of Kyushu so I can highly recommend a trip around the island. Hoppas du har en härlig resa! /från en svensk som bott i Fukuoka, men jag skrev tipsen på engelska ifall fler ville läsa :)
@@minister.20 I'm sorry I can't help you with budgeting since it depends a lot on what you want, for example if you want fine restaurant dining or a 7 Eleven dinner. Also, I haven't been to Japan in about 7 years now and a lot has happened to the economy since then. But for travel ideas, what are you interested in? History, art, nature, food? Any prefectures or cities you already have in mind?
At the moment, I'm speaking with a Japanese girl from Fukuoka, and this video is nice to see what the area looks like there, thanks for the upload of this video Remi!😊
Hi everyone! Locations are listed in the description but you can find even more information about them in my blog post here: lifestylebyremi.com/fukuoka-japan-four-day-travel-itinerary/ I hope you find this helpful!
Welcome back to Fukuoka where I just live. Winter is the best season to spend days here. Any memories from your past experience? I'm glad you spent memorable moments here and there.
oh wow. i'm excited for you to visit! thank you for sharing about your grandfather and for taking the time to leave such a nice note. i hope you enjoy your time in Fukuoka.

Mahalo for sharing love your videos and heading back to Fukuoka in two months super excited. 🤙🏽
Haha Canal City! It's such an underrated mall with the best water shows 😂 next time you go, there's a really great Hakata tempura restaurant that's worth checking out in the mall. I hope you have a great trip!
Hi Remi, thank you for your video, it is really fantastic. I am Taiwanese and have been Japan many times, how shamful I never visited Fukuoka. I decide my next trip to Japan will be Fukuoka, and taste the famous Hakata ramen. Thank you again. Rocky
your hotel looks a lot bigger than regular business hotels ! =D It looked like a really lovely trip. I hope you get to make more vlogs like this of your travels!
Right?? I was surprised at how much space the room had! It was definitely the biggest one I stayed in during my trip. Thank you for watching and leaving such a nice comment. I’ll be posting more from my trip to Japan soon!
i really reccomend visiting Karatsu its 90 mins to the south by train and it has amazing views out of the train on the way there and the city is very nice and has some nice temples, historic homes, and great history and food.
I’m so glad I found your video. I’ve never been to Japan but decided to go to Kyushu (instead of the other major cities) during my visit to Seoul with a stop over in Japan.
Hello! Would you be able to tell me the rough dates you were here? I'm hoping to go to Fukuoka in late December and I was wondering if you were there around then and how cold it felt. Thanks so much for this video, and sharing your personal experience!
Hi! I’m glad you enjoyed this video! I went to Fukuoka around the beginning of December. Definitely bring layers because it’s cold enough where you’ll want a jacket or coat outside but inside can get a bit warm. I hope this helps! Enjoy your trip :)
I visited early December! Christmas time was so fun in the area because of all the lights and special pop up markets. I always recommend visiting Japan during fall (my favorite time to visit!) or spring. summers get way too hot and humid. I hope this helps!
Your video was by far the most helpful I've seen. We're going next week (from Hawaii). It will be raining, and will have one free day. Did you prefer/recommend Nanzoin or Dazaifu if we could only choose one? Or another day trip perhaps that won't be too difficult if it's raining?
I love both options (& I've been to both in rainy weather!). Nanzoin was magical but Dazaifu has more to do in the surrounding area and is a bit more lively with lots of street food options. lol i'm not sure that helped but honestly you can't go wrong either way! I hope you have an amazing time on your trip :)
What a great introduction to Fukuoka!! May I ask you when did you travel? I realize it’s around Christmas, but trying to see if Oct-Nov is better or warmer? I don’t want to travel when its too cold and possibly snowing.. thanks again!!
hi!! This video was filmed the first week of December. It was getting colder but no where near close to snowing. October and November will be slightly warmer + you'll get to see the fall foliage colors! December you get all the winter illuminations and in my opinion, Hakata Station has the best out of other stations I've been to during the winter time. I hope this helps!
Great video! My wife and I are also planning to visit Kyushu next year, including Nagasaki. On the limited express train between Hakata and Takeo-Onsen stations, are there luggage racks at the end of each train car for larger luggages?
oh awesome! I hope you both have the best time in the Kyushu region :) regarding the train, if you have oversized luggage (or heavy luggage that you can't lift onto the overhead), definitely book the oversized luggage seats which have a reserved space behind your seats for luggage.
thank you!! & honestly it's really unfair that they get both fall foliage and winter lights at the same time. It's too pretty!! lol the fall foliage is at its peak usually in November. December is typically the tail end of the fall leaves so we were lucky :)
I've set my sight on Fukuoka for my next big trip. I wonder tho, I know that Tokyo is very international orientated. As someone whom only speaks western languages how difficult is Fukuoka to navigate when you don't speak any word Japanese?
My advice to you is to talk to the hotel front desk staff. You will find people who can speak English but of course you can’t figure this out without first interacting with people. People who want to speak English will approach you. That’s been my experience.
I'm learning Japanese now but definitely didn't know much my first trips to Fukuoka and we were okay! I recommend learning basic travel phrases like (yes, no, where's the bathroom?, do you have an english menu?, etc.) but you should be ok even if don't speak Japanese. Google Translate is my go-to whenever I need help reading Japanese signs or characters. Sometimes I even type in my question and show them the translation on my phone, and that usually helps! I hope this was helpful and that you're able to make it out to Fukuoka. I really love it out there!
Buses and trains announce their stations in English and at least when I was there in 2017 there was a tourist information in Tenjin where they spoke English and were very helpful.
Ooh! I only know a little about the Shimazu clan history. I know there are museums and places to visit in Japan where you can learn more about them too.
I'll try to keep better tabs of all that for future videos! Prices tend to fluctuate depending on the season so I'd just keep in mind that traveling in Japan during the spring will be more expensive (it's peak tourist season because of cherry blossom!). thanks for watching! I hope you found my video helpful!
they are all over the place but most of them are near the exits, ticket entrances, and information booths! the station information booth can help you find them as well.
